Okay, something that I always like drawing attention to is indie games.
Indie Brawl is a multiplayer, 2-dimensional fighting game that pits
some of the most famous characters from indie games against each other.
Think of it as an indie version of Super Smash Brothers.
Iji is described by Remar as System Shock 2 in 2D. Players control the titular character, Iji, an ordinary human female who has been enhanced with nanotechnology following the invasion of Earth by an alien species known as the Tasen.
Iji must navigate a research station while being guided by her brother
Dan, who communicates via the station's loudspeaker system, in order to
convince the aliens' leader to retreat from the planet. Though the game's plot is linear, interactions with non-player characters
change according to the player's actions, leading to one of multiple
endings. The player's primary choice is between pursuing Iji's goal
either as a pacifist or by engaging in violence against the alien
threat.
Spelunky is a cave exploration / treasure-hunting game inspired by
classic platform games and roguelikes, where the goal is to grab as
much treasure from the cave as possible. Every time you play the cave's
layout will be different. Use your wits, your reflexes, and the items
available to you to survive and go ever deeper! Perhaps at the end you
may find what you're looking for...
All three games are brilliant and are worth checking out!
P.S Images and text stolen from various places x x
That Iji game looks interesting. Reminds me of the GBC Bionic Commando re-imagining Nintendo published years back, but much more kinetic.
Speaking of kinetics, time to pimp Konjak's stuff again:
Legend of Princess (just a short demo)
He's got some other stuff on his website to try out, I recommend Chalk. Fun (if nerve-wracking) little time waster.
EDIT: dammit, why didn't anyone tell me that link was effed up? 🙁
Ahhhh, I saw Noitu Love a while a go and I'm thinking of grabbing it sometime.
also, im not sure what happened, but my original post was actually a lot bigger than that... i must fix it!
that looks awesome, any idea when it's out?! i can't see where it says anywhere
I just remembered about Aquaria, which made a lot of waves a while back (lulz). Here's a trailer. It's been described as Super Metroid, but underwater. I haven't played it yet, but I recall /v/ going gaga about it sometime last year.
Question: is an indie game still indie if it's available for purchase on a major online release platform like Steam?
I'd say so, I mean it's used as an outlet for indie devs to make some money, is Braid any less indie for being on XBLA?
Yeah, it's still indie! I mean, Spelunky is coming out on XBLA later this year...
Ah, good points. For some reason I'm equating Indie with "going it alone" which in my view apparently meant distribution as well.
"Going it alone" rarely works sadly, though it much easier for indie devs I suppose. Not everyone has the means of self publishing, and even if it's just one guy in his bedroom, he's gonna need money coming in from somewhere.
I just view indie teams as devs who aren't making a game because a publisher is paying them to make it, as such I'd even say this applies when it comes to major releases, seeing as Valve seems to be able to do as they please and rarely, if ever, cave into what the mainstream demands, otherwise HL: Episode 3 and Portal 2 would be available already.
And yeah, I guess L4D2 could be the exception...

Hah, good find.
I like freeware, so here are some favorites of mine.
Synaesthete
Like Guitar Hero except with electronic music. You also need to dodge enemies and every note you hit shoots a laser at them. (video)
Mr. Blocko: Super Tournament Edition
Dodge randomly falling Tetris blocks and push rows of fallen blocks around to form lines. I can't even find a video on YouTube it's that damn indie.
Syobon Action
A Mario clone/parody with a ton of funny cheap and unexpected deaths. Click the 2nd link to download it. The first one lets you play a Java version of the game in your browser. (video)
Sumotori Dreams
About 10% sumo wrestling, 90% watching blocky sumo wrestlers hilariously stumble around trying to stand back up. On the website, the "demo version" is the original version so download that if you want something free. The full version costs monies.
Squid Yes, Not So Octopus 2: Squid Harder
Like Robotron 2084 but a million times as insane.
Anything by ABA Games
They make a bunch of cool-looking shoot'em'ups.
Cho Ren Sha
A vertical shoot'em'up. Pretty typical, but very solid. (video) (kind of loud)
Warning Forever
Yet another shooter. Pretty much an endless boss rush. Each boss is an "evolution" of the last one and you keep facing them until the clock runs out. (video)
Hey, just wanted to show the latest stuff of Spelunky on XBLA, since it finally had some screens released of it last week or something like that

i am excited.

Standard adventure/platformer, gorgeous sprite art + backgrounds. Parallax all up in this mother. Nice music. Free, except for Iphone version.
