I hear people comment on how hard Mega Man X4 is when you are playing as Zero, something I've disputed (to the point of just getting on people's nerves with my senseless rambling) in the past. I still say it's easy, but it's likely due to the fact that I've played the game countless times over the nine or so years that I've owned it, and I've used Zero the majority of the time, because I just find his combat style much more fun for me personally.
Anyway. To the point. Being bored and having nothing better to do, I decided to record videos of myself completing X4 with Zero. I don't claim that they are perfect, but they give a fairly good example of the techniques I use (which aren't really anything special) for completing the game with Zero.
So. Here they are. The comments for each video give more details about what I did and what mistakes I may have made.

So yeah. That's everything. This was mostly just a product of my boredom and semi-obession with this game, but hopefully it may be useful to anyone having trouble using Zero in X4.
I tend to not play as Zero because I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M FIGHTING FOOOOOR
In all seriousness, though, Very good. You make the game look so easy D:
You know...I have not played a MegaMan game...ever. But I gotta say that looks mighty badass. That MM Anniversary Collection is available for Gamecube, correct? I may pick that up sometime...MM has always caught my interest, I just never played any of the games. =/ Nice videos indeed Zero.
You're so good...
Now I feel even ore inferior than ever before.
Pick up the Xbox or PS2 versions instead... the GameCube version is gimped. No remixed music like the PS2 game has, and B IS JUMP GRARAAAAAAAAARRRAAAGH
Hmm...PS2 version...well in that case i'll need my PS2[that I pawned last year for the dumbest reason] or a PS3[$600]. AHHH! Why does this happpen to me!? u_u
Crazy. Totally, totally crazy.
You'll also want to look into the Megaman X Collection which contains X1 through X6. I'm pretty sure it came out on Gamecube and PS2 - not sure about Xbox. I also think it has button configuration, unlike MMAC. I've been meaning to get it since I only own X1, X2, and X4. I never bothered with MMAC because the only game on it I don't own is 7 (minus the arcade games).
Anyway, this is radsauce. Good work. I've always found the sound Split Mushroom makes when he gets hit by electricity absolutely adorable.
Oh, and CYBER PEACOCK
Its funny, because only recently I have become a Megaman X junkie. One trip to my sisters place and everything went off the hook. And the next time was with Resident Evil, but that's beside the point.
I have the Gamecube version of the X Collection, only because its a hand me down since my sister's boyfriend likes the PS2 version more. You can't go wrong with names like Duff Mcwhalen!
Mega Man X5 is the best one solely for the boss names.
Wow. That was, just awesome.
whoa. Kinda surprised by the response to this, as I'm not used people thinking I'm that good at a game, haha. >_> Thanks to all for the comments and stuff.
HyperSonic2003, as far as looking into Mega Man games, I'd definitely recommend checking out the X Collection. It's loads of fun (although it's obvious that I'd think that when it has X4 in it, heh), and the GameCube version is very nearly as good as the PS2 version, with no backwards control scheme issues like the GC Anniversary Collection. The only thing I'd note is that I personally find the GC controller works considerably better with these games if you set Y as your main attack button, rather than B. But that's just my preference.
Eh, I insist upon B for attack, but I'm an X player, so I like to have a charged shot on hold... seems easier to do with B than Y, see.
However, I insist that you use L for dash. I swear to God, I cannot play the game without a trigger being dash; otherwise it's too many buttons at once (lessee, dash-jump while holding a fully-charged shot... practically every waking second. No way I can do THAT with one finger).
Ahh ok awesome thanks, Zero. I'll definetly look into it dude.

I've never had a problem playing as Zero. Fact is, I prefer his play style. Nothing like getting in close and carving up bots like an enraged Wolverine (BERSERKER BARRAGE!). And coming out of it unscathed is bliss.
btw, I didn't know about Sigma's blind spot there. Holy crap. Learn something new.

Eep, I could never use a trigger for dashing. >_> I've gotten used to being able to hit X, square, and circle fairly quickly with only slight thumb adjustments needed to reach the different buttons. That's why I like the Y/A/X button setup on the GC controller much better than B/A/X, since I'd otherwise have to move my thumb completely off of the X button to reach B for an attack. With the way the GC's buttons are laid out, it's pretty easy to access Y, A, & X all at once.
That's less of a concern for you when you don't use the X button to dash, though. In that case I can see how one could prefer the B button.
As far as playing with X, I use the charge shot fairly frequently, but I don't usually find myself holding the charge for long periods of time, so using Y as my main attack button in the GC version still works pretty well for me. Even without taking dash jumping into account, I just find it easier to hit Y than B while using A on the GC controller. Just the way my hand works, I guess.
That's all mainly related to how I'm most comfortable with the GC controller in general though; when playing the PS1 and PS2 versions I just leave the control scheme at it's default. Except in the case of using X in X4, where I switch square and triangle so I can easily continue using the main weapon while a special weapon is selected, which is how they have things by default in later games.
Shoot, I'm rambling again. >_< Nutshell, Y/A/X = yayz for me, but I can see why others might prefer different.

VERY YES. Finally someone who shares this opinion.

Aww yeah. Good stuffs.

Ahh well thats my preferred method in mech games. Getting in close and slicing some scrap metal. That's my favorite thing about Cypher...his blade is the length of his body, allowing for some serious carnage. I already like Zero lol.
Obviously you should start Megaman X5 as Zero so you can keep the Z Cannon!
Yeah, but it was fairly weak and had little use in X5. I found it much more useful in X6. Overpowered, really.
EDIT: And after saying that, I find it odd that this wasn't posted over at the dedicated Mega Man forum.
**looks over, sees tumbleweed roll past Robot Academy**
Well, not that odd.

That's why the blades in Armored Core are so freaking fun.

Heh, now that you mention it, that would've made sense... Even though I check that section regularly, for some reason the thought of posting it over there never even occured to me. Most likely because most of the X4/Zero related discussions I was referring to have been in this section. Probably a good thing anyway, since about 2-3 people would've seen it over there.
Yeah, but it was fairly weak and had little use in X5.
...I was kidding. Pick X first and get the armor suit, you maniac.
I was hoping you were kidding, heh... Even if I don't use X much, I usually like to start with him so I can collect all the armors. I never use Zero's buster anyway.
Same here HyperSonic. I just recently got into Mega Man. I always knew they were good games, just didn't feel like getting any. Decided to get MMX Coll. for GC. to try it out.
...
Dude, I suck compared to you ZeroSky and any other Mega Man freak out there. I wonder how you get so good in those games. It just depresses me how freakin' well they pawned the Zero series on GBA.
Also, mm topics should go in, well, RM. If more MMX4 topics get moved over there, then maybe tumbleweeds won't be the only things over there.
Megaman X Collection for GC is terrible. B Button for jump = an abomination!
