Microsegammy? Or would it be Segasoft? Either way...this can't be true.

http://www.xbox360wire.co.uk/2008/06/13/microsoft-poised-to-buy-sega/

I saw this on an IGN board, so while reading it...remember that. Funny...the first line says most devoted Sega fans probably went to the Xbox. Ummm...no. Well in my case I didn't, but i'm pretty sure that's not how it went. Although those classic Sega titles as launch titles does make sense. Either way...has anyone else heard anything else about/like this? And if Sega were to be bought out...who do you think would[be that crazy to, heh] do it?

Non-Sonic Sega fans might have been reeled in by Microsoft, but I think Nintendo claimed most of the Sonic Fanbase.

Personally, I think Microsoft buying out SegaSammy would the worst thing to happen since Microsoft buying out Rare. First, it would likely mean an end to Nintendo handheld Sonics, and secondly, Microsoft would probably only take Sonic even further from his original glory.

If Sega got bought by anyone, I would want Nintendo or one of the guys behind the PS2's various platforming hits(Jak, Rachet, Sly) to go the honors. Specifically referring to the possiblity of Nintendo buying Sega: Imagine Miyamoto taking over the Sonic series.

Yea I felt most of them went to Nintendo as well. Worst thing since acquiring Rare...I agree with you on that point too. I'd totally love Nintendo to get Sega. Oh gosh. It's like..totally...breaking the rules they laid down in the early 90s, but then again those rules have been bent/broken/reshaped since the fall of Sega in the hardware business. As for the people behind the Sly, Ratchet, and Jak series...I do believe that is Naughty Dog for Jak and Daxter atleast. Yea I remember one of the Sonic 3[?] level designers went to design the stages for Jak 2, I think it was. Miyamoto + his imagining of Sonic = undefined/DNE/vertical asymptote. >_>

Excepting the releases of Banjo Kazooie for the GBA, Diddy Kong Racing for the DS, and the up coming Viva Pinata game for the DS... wait, a second party Microsoft dev releasing games on a Ninty handheld???

Also this is the first place I've heard of this rumor. Haven't seen anything on Kotaku about it >>

Hahaha, hmmm that is true. Forgot about all those. But yea my guess is the rumor hasn't gotten big enough attention, but when it does some of the bigger sources will either prove or disprove its validity.

I thought Banjo Kazooie for the GBA pre-dated the Rare buy out, and I am pretty sure the Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong Country remakes are largely due to Nintendo owning Donkey Kong and all related characters. Also, I did not know Rare had any involvement with the remakes.

I think it's because Microsoft doesn't see portables as competition since they don't have a portable of their own

Rare also released "Its Mr Pants!" on the GBA. Lets never speak of it again.

I really would not mind this. Ever since Sammy (a cash rich pachinko maker) bought Sega (A company that wasn't constantly pumping out %%@$ games, and still isn't IMO, Its just poor old Sonic ) they have turned into a company that is made of fail.

I mean, they would be developing for one console. (Lets be honest here, the Wii stuff that Sega has made has been a bit poo) Sega could focus on developing games while Sammy can *%+% right off. And maybe they could hire beta testers again. Wouldn't that be nice?

I can't see this happening, though, because aren't Tecmo in some troubles? and the rumour mill is starting to pick up on that company being bought out by Microsoft.

Plus if they end up buying both, I don't want Itagaki anywhere near my Virtua Fighter.

Its Mr. Pants? Really? Wow. Apparently a Japanese game. *shot* Yea Nintendo does own DK and whatnot. I don't really see what the big deal was about MS acquiring Rare in that case. I mean, the characters still belong ro the Big N...they just need a new developer for the titles. I remember hearing we won't be seeing DK64 on the VC because of Rare belonging to MS now...but if that's the case that makes the current DKC titles on the VC up for debate, right?

As for this being a good thing...yea financially it probably would be, but not for us non-Xbox owners. Come on JT. Xbox...yuck! 😛 Wii stuff from Sega...like oh let's say Sega Superstars Tennis! Oh wait..that's for like all consoles. Nevermind. But yes you are right...Sega's lost it. They've like turned into s modern dayTHQ...they've made both the Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk movie video games. Movie video games = sickening[usually]. Rumor on Tecmo being bought by Microsoft, really? Hmm...that would be interesting. Itagaki...isn't that the guy that said the Tekken series has been schick since Tekken 3? lol

No, he is the guy who said that the Tekken series has always been terrible. And yet he made Dead or Alive. The most broken fighting game series made by Japanese people.

And he has started on Devil May Cry.

And its all because his games are excreted from God himself. And everyone elses is crap.

Back onto the topic though, yeah it would be a shame for non-360 owners not to get the Sega love anymore. I don't know how to end this now, really.

I think hopes of Shenmue 3 and Sega actually allowed to have time make a decent Sonic game have gone off in my mind though. And maybe even, Fighting Vipers 3. Seriously Japan (and the world) loved Honey.

I recall MS' Age of Empires being released on many different systems. However if MS did go and acquire Service Games ips, I doubt they'd go and make it 360 exclusive as they'd go and loose too much monies. Also Viva Pinta DS?

Honestly, you guys are being a little too dramatic about the whole "ohgod not MS NOOooOOOo!" I doubt they could manage to do anything to make the Sonic franchise WORSE. They tend to make some fairly high-quality games.

Oh, and Mr. Taylor - Tekken IS terrible and always has been, and DOA lost it's throne of most broken fighter what with that whole "Smash Bros." thing, and that's made by Nintendo, innit?

Say what you want about Tekken, its always below Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur. And Smash Bros is a little game that people who get really into it think its a fighting game. But it isn't really. It just isn't. Are you arguing with me? Go to your room.

But DOA is broken, Tekken isn't. It is a juggle-combo fest, yes, but broken it is not.

I don't really see this happening, SEGA has a lot of involvement across all platforms right now, and some big licenses too, so I'd find it difficult to think they're considering being taken over by MS. However I do agree that if it were anyone to take them over, MS offers the greatest opportunities for the company, and probably the best chance of reviving older franchises, Shenmue, Streets of Rage, Skies of Arcadia...etc... That said, there are too many games I'm looking forward to elsewhere, like Valkyria Chronicles and Madworld.

Oh, and the only thing broken about DoA is the AI, in player V player matches it's simple, fast and fun. Tekken is no longer a fighter that anyone can play IMO, the combos are way too long and lack freedom, it's fun to watch though. As for Itagaki himself he has his opinions, and to be fair he has a very good track record, minus the DoA Xtreme crap, but I doubt SEGA would let him mess with VF, nor do I think he would, he's a fan of it afterall.

Yea I don't see it happening either. I would like to know who started this rumor...and give them a nice swift kick. Microsoft offers the greatest oppurtunities you think? Hmmm...maybe...I can't really say to be honest. I want to say Nintendo could do the most for them, but that's said with a large amount of bias[i'll admit it].

As for Tekken's combo system...I gotta say...yea, you've got to study that stuff like Calculus to get anywhere in it now. But then again...Soul Caliber[haven't played any but SC lol]could go down the same road Tekken has. Not to say it has or will, considering IV is said to be the end, yes? I would probably say gameplay wise I do enjoy Sc much more, but characters and story...Tekken is more me. Wait...what're we supposed to be talking about? *slammed*

Heh, us fighting fans should get our own subforum for this stuff :P, we should revive that thread for this little offtopic conversation.

I'm all for Sega being owned by Microsoft.

Microsoft's been pretty reliable for me when it comes to gaming, I even prefer the 360 over the PS3, but that's not my point here today. Microsoft has backed good games before, especially by some pretty damn good developing teams (Bungie, Epic Games, Rare, etc) and we've seen what's come out of it because of them, and from what I recall, Sega and Microsoft have kept a healthy relationship publishing games which have featured on the Xbox (ChromeHOUNDS springs to mind).

But, let's just say that Sega does to developing work for Microsoft too, how many of you can honestly say you wouldn't mind seeing a new Shenmue (lol I don't know the possibility of it, but just bare with me)? Or hell, Sonic done better? Yes please. Especially if Microsoft are willing to put in the money for projects like these.

"But I don't own an Xbawks!" So? You're on a PC, aren't you? How much better would that be for us as gamers, to have a high possibility of these games come to PC. Because let's face it, most of them will get there eventually.

And lol, I think that's about all I can think of right now. I've had too much to drink.

I own a PC, but I have a low probably of being able to play any PC games, especially ones from Microsoft and its second party developers. PC ports might be good for Windows users, but they usually leave us Linux users high and dry, especially considering that my most PC developers use DirectX over OpenGL for one reason or another.

Sorry Jeff, was kinda thinking of the majority there.

Considering that Microsoft would stoop low enough to make games developed by them Vista only, the majority of Windows users would probably be screw as well. Also, their is the high cost involved in purchasing and maintaining a gaming quality PC.

In general, the only gaming a PC is really good for is emulation, and some handhelds and consoles actually do that better.

Eww! PC games that only work with Vista. That may be the fall of technology as we know it. But yea...gaming PCs usually cost enough as it is...but to keep upgrading graphics cards, purchasing memory etc is extremely costly. Emulation...yea I can see that, but like you said alot of people use consoles for that too. So basically PCs are good for things besides gaming I guess. Heh

Off-topic: Mr. John Taylor! I bring you something far more broken than any entry of Dead or Alive.

On-Topic: Spiner basically said what I wanted to say but could not really find the right words for. Unless you're Jeffery Mewtamer, Microsoft is pretty good at this whole new-fangled video game thing those kids are playing lately.

In general, the only gaming a PC is really good for is emulation, and some handhelds and consoles actually do that better.

lulz

AoF3!! Hahaha! Classic. Like seriously...i'd invent some new words if someone did that to me...if you know what I mean. That's like...stupid crazy. SNK should be slapped...like the literal company office building HQ. Anywho...this reminds me...have you guys head about Microsoft possibly getting other companies to produce Xbox 360s. Yea..I can't find the exact article i'm looking for, but I suppose this will suffice.

I've got a Pentium 4 Extreme Ed 3.2GHz with only 1GB of RAM. I'm looking into getting some more ram, but it handles TF2 flawlessly.

Ahh ok...nice, nice. More gigs seem to be in need though, yes. 😛 As for less hardware failure, UC. *chuckles*
