I've been keeping a half eye on this game since it showed up in a magazine I subscribe to a few months ago, but I didn't really know too much about it. However there was recently some gameplay footage released, which looks really interesting. The graphics are beautiful and the fact that it's sort of free running based (think Assassin's Creed but in first person view and futuristic) could make it something unique in today's market. I'll be keeping a close eye on this game.
*blinks* Whoa...i've never hear dof this game. It's an EA game...surprising. Since Army of Two they've felt the need to do none EA Sports titles...congrats to them. 😛 And a female lead...fantastic. We need more females in games. Big time plus. This is a nice find THS...keep us posted.
This is probably the most revolutionary first-person game I've ever seen. I hope that all first-person games take a few tips from this game. I mean, it's astounding that no other first-person game even thought of doing this sort of thing! It's amazing, but it looks like it'll change the genre forever, if it gets pulled off correctly.
I speak, of course, about the fact that you can actually see your character's feet.
Yea man...this should've been thought of long ago. Developers I tell ya...no more creativity[except for EA in this instance].
The game looks really cool and definataly something new, nice music also. Any idea of a release date?
Nothing more definite than 'Late 2008'

Interestingly enough I was reading an old Cracked.com article the other day listing common complaints with videogames; that was one of them. It's actually a more serious problem that it seems at first glance as without proprioception to guide you, being completely unable to see your body (except maybe your hand holding a gun or as a reflection in a mirror) - as in most FPSes - makes it difficult to judge jumps, which in turn makes first-person difficult jumping puzzles that much more frustrating. Consider this game's focus seems to be difficult jumping puzzles, it's a good thing they implemented that.
Another complaint about most first person games that I hope is addressed in this game is the almost complete lack of realistic handling of uneven terrain. Quite often I see relatively simple obstacles such as piles of rocks that you or I could easily clamber over used as insurmountable barriers to keep the player from straying outside the map or force him along a different route. Half-Life 2 is the worst culprit for this, as other characters (e.g. Alyx) happily leap and climb all over all sorts of irregular obstacles but poor Dr. Freeman is so undextrous that he has to clumsily stack crates and barrels to get to the same areas if he's able to reach them at all. It's only a minor annoyance when I see things like that in FPSes and I can accept it as a trope of the genre or justifiable programmer laziness, but in a parkour game to pull same trick would be inexcusable. Hopefully they've given some thought to that issue, although from the trailer it seems they've sidestepped it entirely by setting the game in an urban environment where you can leave out irregular surfaces without breaking verisimilitude. Which, to be fair, is a valid solution.
Still, from this trailer it looks pretty clean and polished, which hopefully is the result of careful design rather than prettying things up for the marketing department. It could end up being a very fun game, although one caveat is that this type of game cries out for branching paths, freedom to explore the environment and non-linearity in general. Hopefully they'll avoid falling into the trap of making the game too linear and giving it an on-rails feel. I'll reserve judgement for if/when I actually play it.
Edit: grr yuku why are you so incompetent with line breaks >=(

Branching paths and freedom to explore should seriously be a commodity now. Shouldn't it? I mean...I could see in the older games of the 4th[definitely], 5th and even 6th generations not having enough room to add absolute freedom and whatnot, but with these HD DVDs and Blu-Rays...the amount of space is vastly largely than of past generations. Right? Then again...think of how much programming that would be, assuming the city is large and has lots of different things going on[GTA-esque], it would take years to create this game. Just level design...so maybe it's not so much laziness on the programmers, as is us expecting too much? I don't really know to tell you the truth, I don't really know the logisitics and whatnot of sofware storage space, but it's the era of high def...let's see it at work, ok?
To be fair, the PS3 is the only console supporting High Def storage media for its games. And even if they weren't, while there would be space for storage, it would take a lot of work to design and build, a larger game world means a larger probability of bugs, and longer dev time. On top of that, allowing the player to stray off the linear path planned out by the developer could easily mean they would just ignore the story - this is a problem that Grand Theft Auto in particular 'suffers' (although to be fair Rockstar seem to accept this as there's always a lot to do anyway).
Either way, linear games aren't and likely never will be dead, and it's entirely likely that Mirror's Edge could fall into such a category by using preplanned routes through the city to each destination as opposed to letting you choose your own. The basic principle would be the same in both outcomes, except in the former you would be merely following someone else's design, essentially just pressing what you're told when you're told, while in the latter you are given free reign to do as you please.
Ahh so this is where the PS3 is actually worth it's hype, I guess. 😛 In that case...next generation maybe? Haha. But really 'd love for some company to present a game at E32010 or something that they've been working on since like 2003 or even further back and it's been kept a total secret. A literal...free roaming game. Go inside any building,[any opening actually], vehicle, body of water, etc. The only possible barrier I guess...could be a never ending highway of some sort. Sounds kinda cheap I know, but it has to have some kind of barrier, right?
And yea I agree, THS, linear games will be around for quite a while[AKA forever], but i'm hoping they'll open them up more and more as time comes by. I don't have a problem with linear games by any means...but I know what you mean, Nuchtos, when you you were talking about Half-Life 2 and whatnot. You should totally be able to climb over said stuff, but no...you can't. Lame. We'll see where Mirror's Edge goes though...does look promising. Let's hope it gets the creative juices flowing throughout the industry.

Well, would not the ultimate in free roam gameplay be a game world on the scale of a small planet, having an overall spherical shape, but appearing flat at the player's scale? Boundaries would be set only by the player's inability to reach escape velocity, or a limit to how far underground they could reach.
In that case...I do believe we have a winner. That I like...I like alot. Good thinking JM.
I'm just happy that it isn't another brown/grey/black fest like previous "next gen" FPSs. I might actually care to try this one.
Yeah, I've been keeping my eye on this game for a while, the footage does look stupidly nice. Dice may be able to pull something out the bag here, looks original and, dare I say, good.
parkour + guns sounds great to me. this is the first game i've cared about in a while.
I've been following this game since it was announced, it looks incredible, and I wasn't expecting it to be ingame. It's surprising that EA's responsible for this, but I'll still be keeping an eye on it.
A First Person platformer, I don't think it's been done before, and with good reason. It's like a modern day Sonic. 😛
I also love how guns are basically a power up.
