Sheesh Snake look even more older than in the previous one.
Those new Metal Gear looks awesome.
Let's not forget, though.
no.gif is the best use of a captionned screencap using MGS footage that I've ever beheld. Also, Meryl is ugly and Oceliquid is damn hot. With my opinion out of the way, it's time for some information.
- Apparently, When Roy says "You're the world's only hope", it's plural. In other words, he's not referring to Snake, but a group of people - probably Philanthropy itself. I think the Philanthropy orientation goes for what Meryl says, too.
- Otacon uses the word onus. Oddly enough, I didn't know what it meant{my s***ty vocab has grown in recent years}, so I think it best to throw the definition out.
- Apparently{again}, there will be a 15 minute long trailer tomorrow. Holy shindai.
Umm... why would Snake need to kill himself to erase the meme/genes? He's too old to reproduce even if MGS1 didn't state that he and Liquid were unable to.
If it involved his DNA, being a dead body would make him easier to obtain.
My take on it is that the last scene of that trailer with the gun in his mouth has nothing to do with how he'll die - just symbolism. I think that some of the game will consist of a few missions with one goal: Eliminate all traces of Big Boss.
This means destroying BB's body, erasing all traces of it, digital or otherwise, and finally killing Liquid and himself after ensuring that his homies incinerate their bodies.
Edit: 2 mirrors of the 15min trailer. rapidshare.de/files/20113...6.wmv.html rapidshare.de/files/20119...4.AVI.html
Let it by known that Riaden is the first being - fictional or otherwise - that I'm okay with having high heels. You'll see why.
HSW beat me to the link, since I've spent the last hour doing a writeup that wasn't even required. x__X Ah well, for anyone who can't get at the trailer for whatever reason, this is for you. Spoilers - especially since this gives away the high-heels thing ;3 - and anyone who wants to skip it can click here.
Spoilers (Select To Read): "War has changed. Our time has ended. Our war is over."
Snake is sat in the same position, same pose as we saw in the shorter trailer. The Konami logo appears, and a voice starts, "Since the Manhattan incident, restrictions on military intervention in foreign countries have eased, fuelling the demand for mercenaries." As this speech goes on, a number of armed men and vehicles appear to be moving in for battle in a middle-Eastern environment. "Today, the world's wars depend largely on PMCs, private military companies whose business includes supplying these mercenaries." By this point, we get the first glimpse in this trailer of the new-style Metal Gear - more on that soon.
"PMCs have become a serious threat to the world." Another voice - I think Snake, but I'm not sure - begins, as we are giving a view of the Metal Gear scanning the area, "The US has exported too much military power. Now she's paying the price."
"In total, they've got enough manpower to rival the US military. Based on our investigation, the five largest PMCs are run by a dummy corporation which acts as a single mother company." We now see a view through something similar to a vastly upgraded HUD that would be seen normally in a Metal Gear game, watching the troops go by.
"And the mother company?"
"Outer Heaven."
"The one world in which soldiers will always have a place..."
Kojima Productions logo appears.
We see the ruin of a building on a deserted road, a yellow skyline looming overhead, and the words "A Hideo Kojima Game" fades in.
"War has changed." A transport rolls down the road, towards a battlefield. "It's not about nations, or ideologies. It's not even about profit, resources, or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines." The troops in the transport ready themselves.
"War, and its vast consumption of human life, has become a rational, well-oiled business transaction." A cloaked figure in the back of the transport places a cigarette into his mouth. "War has changed. ID-tagged soldiers carry ID-tagged weapons, use ID-tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their actions." A helicopter flies over as the transport penetrates further into the city, and the soldiers continue their preparations. "Genetic control...Information control...Emotion control...Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control." The transport comes to a halt and the troops pile out, many getting shot on their way.
"War has changed. The age of deterrence is now the age of control, averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction." The cloaked figure leaves the truck calmly, watching as his allies are shot down. "And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war becomes routine." The cloaked figure scans the area in a notably familiar stance, then moves out. A helicopter passes over the area. More troops pile in and take fire immediately. The cloaked figure continues his move through the city purposefully.
Guns of the Patriots logo appears.
"He plans to fan the flames of war even higher...To create the perfect world once envisioned by Big Boss."
A Metal Gear stalks a street of soldiers, and a voice from within shouts, "We are released from the bonds of fate. Brother, we are free!" The Metal Gear charges down the street, hurling soldiers everywhere.
"You mean the US wasn't aware that these PMCs have been assembling an army?"
"The PMCs and soldiers are installed with a state-of-the-art control system." A man walks up to a grave - whos grave this is is unknown, but possibly Grey Fox's? - similar to the closing scene of Metal Gear Solid 3. "As long as the nanomachines remain inside of a soldier, he won't be able to point his gun anywhere near a client." The camera pans up to show snake, in a suit and aged terribly, who salutes to the grave. The wind picks up, and a helicopter drops into the area. Out comes Otacon, now with black hair, who runs up to Snake.
"Otacon. Even the dead have ears."
"Snake, we've got to go. There's an old friend waiting for you."
Snake walks up to the chopper to find...
"Snake..."
"Colonel!"
"Not anymore..." The colonel has aged from the last encounter, but could be described as better for wear than Snake himself. "We've found him...The Middle East."
The chopper takes off. "I'll explain on the way. We've got to stop him now, before it's too late."
"Liquid has made his move," says Otacon. Snake sighs. "Liquid has taken command of an immense army, and is now preparing to unleash an armed insurrection."
Cut back to the middle east. The cloaked man continues through the back alleys, and over this we hear Snake say, "The truth, Naomi. How long will my body hold out?"
"Your entire body is beginning to decay. The average man wouldn't be standing now." The cloaked figure lights up a cigarette. "Six months. You've got six months to live."
Blood drips onto the man's shoulder. He looks up to see a man's corpse suspended above him by the Metal Gear. He fires madly at it and backs away, and we see that it is using its legs to support itself between the walls of the alley. It begins to move forward, digging its legs into the walls and pulling itself along, and opens fire on the man. He turns and runs into a building, and the Metal Gear falls from the wall and upends itself. The man uses this time to reload his weapon.
"Moo."
Another Metal Gear tears through the wall, and the man barely avoids it - his cloak falls away and reveals, lo and behold, Solid Snake in his good old camo gear.
The Metal Gear turns on Snake and chases him through the building, tearing through a wall on its way. As Snake heads upstairs to get away, a tentacle extends from the Metal Gear and wraps itself to Snake's leg, pulling him to the ground. Snake fires on the Metal Gear, but no effect is made. The machined begins to reel Snake in, who braces himself against it and fires at the tentacle from close range, breaking it off. He throws his gun away and stares down the machine for a moment, before the stairs can no longer stand its weight and fall through. Snake heads upwards.
The Metal Gear isn't taking no for an answer - it stabs its leg into the wall and climbs upwards through the room. Snake reaches the roof and we see a box layed on the ground. He drops his cigarette in shock, and we see another Metal Gear waiting for him, who jumps down from the next building into the alley with a satisfying "Moo," and then climbs up to the roof. Meanwhile, the previous Metal Gear is getting close - Snake moves fast, and we see his suit begin to change.
The Metal Gears meet on the roof and begin to scan the area - one notices the dropped cigarette, looks at it, then throws it away. It then notices the box, and notices something inside it...it raises its leg and stomps through the box, and red liquid pours out.
The machine has put his foot through a pile of watermelons.
The Metal Gears roar - or moo, if you will - and then leap of into the city.
A watermelon rolls freely and touches a rock - a rock which quickly alters to follow its pattern. It's Snake's camo suit! Which seems to now have the ability to blend in with its surroundings. (As a side note, we see that the box had "No Place for Hideo" written on it at this point) Snake picks up his cigarette and looks out onto the city. 2 choppers pass overhead.
Metal Gear Solid 4 logo.
Snake is once more sat in the earlier position from the beginning of the trailer. "Enough is enough, Snake. You can't take any more of this."
"I'm not dead yet."
"That's not what I mean. You never stood a chance. He can't be beat."
Naomi Hunter.
"We must all atone for our sins. We must not pass them on to the next generation." A black-haired woman in a cloak walks towards the camera through a ruined building. "We must not leave them to the future."
Roy Campbell...Colonel Campbell.
"No one else can stop him. The Patriots are involved, too. You're the world's only hope."
Meryl Silverburgh.
An older Meryl turns in shock and readies her handgun. She then calms herself and moves her weapon away. "La-li-lu-le-lo? What are you talking about? We are the new FOXHOUND."
Hal Emmerich...Otacon.
"Let's finish it, Snake. Let this be our last battle. The onus is ours."
Liquid Snake...Liquid Ocelot.
"It was you who killed Abel and was cast out by Eve. You killed your own flesh and blood. What next? Will you pay for your sins and dig your own grave?"
Solid Snake...Old Snake.
"War has changed. Our time has ended. Our war is over.
"But there's one more thing I must do." Snake removes his cigarette and loads his handgun. "One last punishment I must endure. I have to erase my genes, wipe the MEME from the face of the Earth." He places the barrel of the weapon into his mouth.
"This is my final mission."
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Tactical Espionage Action.
"Some stories can't be told by words. Some legends are meant to die. Some bloodlines must come to an end."
...
Three Metal Gears look to a cloaked figure wielding a katana, his face obscured by a high-tech mask. One leaps at him, and he stays perfectly still until the last minute, when he sweeps by the metal gear, tearing through its leg with his sword. He leaps into the air and his cloak falls off and covers another Metal Gear's scope. We now see that this man is wearing a new version of the Ninja gear.
The Massacre of the Metal Gears really has to be seen, although there's one notable stunt - the man hurls the sword into the air and clutches it with his foot, spinning around furiously in a hand stand and tearing through anything that dare come near him.
The man sheaths his blade, the suit seems to release itself, and the mask opens to reveal an old but familiar face.
"My turn to protect you, Snake."
Raiden's Return!
And boy, does he look awesome.
Oh man. Oh man. Oh man.
Damn you Kojima. I don't wanna have to spend $600 on a PS3, but you're gonna make me do it anyway!
