Square Enix announced Valkyrie Profile: The Accursed One (or Valkyrie Profile: Toga wo Seou Mono) for Nintendo DS, a new sequel to the Valkyrie Profile series developed by Tri-Ace (Star Ocean, Radiata Stories). The protagonists are Wilfred, Lenneth, Eris and Ansel. Wilfred is a soldier, Lenneth is the reincarnation of the goddess, Eris is a mysterious woman who helps Wilfred and Ansel is a friend of Wilfred. The theme is about the revenge to the gods.

From GAF:

- The main character is a young soldier with silver hair who hates the Valkyries from past experience.
- He is determined to fight against the gods using the "feather that leads to victory" given to him by Hel from the underworld.
- Everytime he uses the power of the wing, it turns darker.
- Ansel is close friend of Wilfred.
- Elise is a mysterious girl from the underworld that seeks to help Wilfred.

Current rumor is that this new VP will be a Strategy-based, ala Final Fantasy Tactics... but nothing concrete has been announced.

Now... perhaps I'm the only one here who cares, but damn was the first Valkyrie Profile godly, and I eargerly welcome another chapter to the series. Although I was looking quite forward to Valkyrie Profile: Hrist to finally complete the trilogy. Which reminds me, I really should spend some more time with VP: Silmeria... to think I would wait years for a sequel to the PSOne's swan song RPG masterpiece only to virtually ignore it.

Ooo, I only recently got Valkyrie Profile for my PSP, though I haven't played it too much yet, so it's nice to see the port and PS2 sequel have reignited the series.

More scans from Famitsu. The game is 50% complete. They're calling it an Action RPG, but will also sport an "isometric battle system". Soul Crush confirmed.

EDIT: little late on this, but debut teaser trailer released.
