I doubt it, this event is just to show off Japanese software. And we already got an announcement about the Japanese launch price weeks back. I believe the North American launch details will have its own, separate press event.

Damn it. What is the point of living so close to Nintendo World (alright, three hour drive, but still) if I can't go daily and see all the awesomeness from it?

Live Stream! It's already starting. o.o

EDIT: Wow. Pretty lame so far. After the initial 3DS introduction and a live demoing of the Mii and Augmented Reality intergration, they've been rerunning the same videos of japanese celebrities looking gawk-eyed at the unit and making weird noises. It'll be a while yet before we see more games being demoed. Maybe I should just wait until someone Youtubes the good parts. 😮

During the show, they made mention that with all features enabled (max brightness, wifi, 3D slider on full, etc.), the 3DS battery will last between 3 to 5 hours, and takes about 3 and a half hours to fully charge. Box set pic

From Kotaku, here are the Japanese Launch Titles...

Nintendogs & Cats ¥4,800

Winning Eleven Soccer 3D ¥5,800

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition ¥4,800

Samurai Warriors: Chronicle ¥6,090

Puzzle Bobble 3D ¥4,980

Ridge Racer 3D ¥6,090

Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D ¥5,040

Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle ¥5,980

Eh, not anything great imo. If the US were getting Layton at the same time I'd be excited, but that will be a year + later =. Hopefully Ocarina of Time will be on ours (I seriously doubt it though)

Ahhh I forgot about that other conference, sorry.

Saw screenshots of Kid Icarus and I'm impressed at how well it looks, along with a bunch of other games that will release for it. I've just been burned by buying consoles at the release date enough times that I feel I'll just wait for a bit. I really hope the version of Virtual Console for this will have a bunch of decent games released for it.

It's a pipe dream but if I'm able to purchase SNES games to play on this...

Well, it's over for today. Live stream dragged on (terrible talking heads segment during the MGS panel) but was redeemed by two factors: awesome jazz renditions of Donkey Kong, Mario, Animal Crossing and Zelda tunes (dat Gerudo Valley... dat Zelda's Lullaby... ;_; ) during Nintendo Music, and Sakurai showing some ACTUAL GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE of Kid Icarus. Grim Reaper Boss and the Hydra with the multiple argumentive personalities were the highlights.

I hope someone recorded those tunes, I doubt they'll be repeating the same ones on tomorrow's segment!

They said the same about the DSi when it was first unveiled. No one's ever complained about the life of the DSi battery, at least I've never heard anything about it.

EDIT: Nintendo uploaded the 4 segments on their website for public viewing.

And someone recorded the Nintendo Music Live event and uploaded the audio, so ripping the 4 medleys should be possible if you want to listen to it on your iPod or what have you.

Pics:

During the MGS conference it was said that they ported Snake Eater first because it's the first in the MGS timeline, possibly hinting at the other MGS games coming out on the system in the future.

The battery life+recharge rate issues are only if you've got all the features on their highest settings - all of them.  But you can have the Wifi off at least if you're not playing online, and that's one of the bigger battery-suckers.  I don't use the full brightness on my DS, either.  And of course, more likely than not you should be able to play the 3DS hooked up to the power if you need to play more than that with all the features maxed.

I heard somewhere that Nintendo is cautioning people not to let kids younger than seven years old play the 3DS because of eye development issues.

The good part about the WiFi, according to Wiki, there's an external WiFi switch on the 3DS which is definitely an improvement over the DSi. I also heard about the warning for children, but according to the American Optometric Association, it should be fine in moderation.

Lifted this comparison image from Neogaf...OoT 3DS looks a little better but am I the only one who doesn't think Oot looks THAT dated in the first place? I mean I played it for the first time last year and it didn't seem that bad to me. Or maybe I'm just crazy. I'm not the biggest fan of OoT (Didn't care much for the change to the larger dungeons aka the Temples) but my hope is they pack it with a decent amount of extra content, setting the standard for other ports. Or am I being too hopeful?

I just wanted it to last longer on the brightest settings only because I like to play my DS while on the bed or in a love seat at night and need all the light I can get. Glad to know you can at least turn the WiFi off.

From what I can see there, the resolution seems a bit higher than on the original N64.  Link's face is clearer, and while the graphics are still a bit blocky, at least it looks sharper.

He also has the chest belt, which he had in the artwork but not in game until Majora's Mask.

Extra feature for OOT would be great, but I'm not expecting to see much. I may be a bit disappointed at this especiall when compared to all the extras for Mario 64 on the original DS, but its Zelda and I can't stay disappointed for long. Gives me an excuse to replay OOT anyway!

Live stream is live again. Looks like they're starting again with the Mii/AR demonstration. They even have the same clowns back again. At least Nintendo Music Live will make up for it. Today's conferences will focus on Capcom, with one segment devoted to Super Street Fighter IV 3D and one on Resident Evil: Revelations.

EDIT: Got tired and went to sleep before catching anything past the Live Band last night. Woke up this morning and decided to view the conferences on Nintendo's site.

- SSFIV3D: pretty good, looked and played like a Street Fighter. Seems they're going all out with the online components, I hope Nintendo's online infrastructure is more user-friendly than 'friendcodes'. You'll also be able to collect "figures" using the StreetPass function. Hm, no sign of the updated roster from SSFIV Arcade. Too bad.

- Biohazard/RE: This is more like it. Lots of gameplay footage, first of Revelations and then Mercenaries 3D (even had its own trailer this time). Revelations was suitably dark and foreboding, Mercenaries was all about action. I noticed that they purposefully held back on headshots and some of the more gruesome deaths, probably because of all the recent hubbub in Tokyo, and also because there were children present. So the guy always seemed to be aiming squarely at the enemies legs and/or crotch. Yeah, that's what I want to see! Anyways, I can see they streamlined Mercs even more: no lag animations when picking up ammo/items, reloading/aiming while on the move, no hassle inventory screen, etc. I see they also included taunts (Claire bends forward a bit, motions with her forefinger to come here, Majini wandering around a ways ahead suddenly turns and heads straight for her!). Also Claire's close-quarters melee: a couple of quick punches to the gut, followed by a swift kick. HAWT.

😮

Resident Evil all the way!! If nothing else on the system is any good (which is highly unlikely) at least there's Resident Evil! Probably the greatest news about this game is the return of the horror. Also it's about time Stret Fighter 4 came out on a system that I can actually play games on! The online definitely seems promsing as long as no friend codes are required. Hopefully Nintendo has learned their lesson, but then again it is Nintendo! Oh, and Ceiling Miyamoto is garantueed to haunt my dreams. Thanks in advance Psx!

It's not a bad price at all. If KH 3DS...along with another few titles were release date, I'd find it hard, very hard to resist but since they aren't...I'll wait. Especially if they come out with a 'Lite' edition which is even better. Thank goodness Pokemon is still a DS release...

Preordered one from Amazon to be safe... (Already did the same at Toys R Us yesterday incase there was a mad rush on Amazon).

That said, I'll be preordering my real one tonight from Best Buy. I've got over $300 in gift cards for them. Might have to pick up PilotWings Resort so I have something to play. A little disappointed Zelda didn't make US/Euro launch, but not too surprised.

Glad to see they finally fixed the godawful friend codes system.

Really, really irritated with the UK pricings of £220-230. I'm finding it terribly hard to justify paying that price. Makes me look forward to seeing what the PSP2 can do.

I thought the price was up to the retailer, or is that the suggest price range for y'all? Anywho, here's the official North American and European sites for the 3DS.

Edit: Just found out from the NA site that the 3DS music player includes MP3 playback in addition to AAC files!

What, no Awesome Purple? FFFFFFFFFFFFFF--!!

Everybody was predicting 300 bones for NA. Everybody WANTED 200. Nintendo meets us in the middle. All is well.

EDIT: MEANWHILE, IN JAPAN...

EDIT2: New Dead of Alive Dimensions trailer. Now with more SPACE DRAGON.

EDIT: MEANWHILE, IN JAPAN...

Oh. My. Gosh! Those lines are for preorders only? Man, the Japaneses either love their video games or love their Nintendo games! Speaking of preorders, I preordered my Aqua Blue 3DS today at Gamestop; I also preordered Paper Mario 3D too but I think I got too hyped and will probably cancel that since I could get 10% off at the Walmart I work at.

Portable gaming systems (Especially Nintendo) in Japan are like cell phones to us...

...but still...preorders.

If we get other colors like Awesome Purple, what will they be called? Ripe Red? Charmed Pearl? Triforce Gold?

Oh and per game friend codes gone? Yay Nintendo!

Don't worry, they'll probably offset that by making the one Friend Code 32 characters long, with upper and lower case alphabet mixed in.

3D tvs are just too expensive.... so i'm betting all on the 3DS X__________X

i read on the net that the 3DS is going to have 3D movies, it signed up with disney, which is enough for me. all the best 3D movies are from disney anyway. having a few is enough.. and not wearing glasses over my glasses just sweetens the deal more XD

oddly enough i'm going to buy the 3DS mainly for the 3D movies rather than the games
nintendo was smart enough to make the Wii popular to none gamers with its family games and sports, the 3DS seems like it will gain film fans. i just hope the quality is good, you know samsung's 3D tvs are much better than sony's 3D tvs.... i cant wait to see the 3DS in stores.

Has anyone ever seen any actual footage of how this 3D-without-3D-glasses screen even works?  I find it sort of perturbing that the primary feature of the 3DS is the one feature they haven't actually shown off yet.  All I've seen are "reactions" of people holding the 3DS and supposedly seeing some amazing 3D stuff.

I'm not accusing Nintendo of lying, they wouldn't be stupid enough to put out a product that doesn't do the one thing they're banking on.  I'd just like to see what it can do before investing my next few years of gaming into it.

As far as Nintendo explaining how it works, I don't know. I think i read somewhere how this tech would work, but I'm not sure if that was speculation or actual fact. I guess you will have to take their word for it seeing as how you would have to be playing the system to see the 3D effects. I'm sure upon release stores will have playable demos abailable as they do for pretty much every handheld (and console for that matter). So I'm sure you'll have the oppurtunity to try it before you buy it.

They have shown footage of the actual 3D... But it looks jumbled up due to the fact it is filled from a single camera lens and not 2 eyes. The system operates by projecting 2 slightly different images to the eyes, allowing the brain to combine both eyes' views into a 3d image with depth.

Eh screw it, it is just easier to link you to this page.

Honestly, this is the reason Nintendo is setting up mall tours of the 3DS. It is something that can't be conveyed in a video, the magic needs to be seen in person.

I tried to get into Ninty World on the 19th. Hella crazy there -.- Kinda forget I work a block away x_x

Lack of color choices sucks. Nintendo is playing this just like their previous consoles: they're going to wait until demand starts to waiver and then come out with new colors within a year to entice new sales and gamers who already own one to double-dip. But if demand continues to stay high then they might just hold off and use the time to develop an upgraded version (GBA SP/DS Lite/DSi/DS XL) instead.

🙁

what no red?! nintendo how could you! its your theme color..... now that i think about it a white and red nintendo console coloring would be neat like the old system.... why dosent anyone use 2 or more color scheme's in one device its so boring having to choose a plain color. i'd like a black and red or blue and pink schemed device.

as for the colors already there for the 3DS i'd choose the purple one, its less gross looking. i dont know why but after playing silent hill for days the other 2 colors reminds me of inner organs or something gross like that. i hate that shiny effect.

Oh absolutely. I remember the NES themed GBA SP that was one slick looking system. A similar 3DS system would be a must have for me! Also nice to see someone showing some love to Silent Hill! Now THAT'S a game franchise I'd like to see on the 3DS

omg a 3D silent hill you want me to die of a heart attack!  silent hill has always made me scream like a ... girl, which is unnatural to me i hardly ever scream i have a very soft voice, its just silenthill is too darn scary! i love it though XD i'll totally play the 3D one but its gonna be your fault if i end up with grey hair for suggesting it 😛

LOL Silent Hill Scariest gaming franchise ever! We're getting a new, horror focused Resident Evil on the 3DS so hopefully Konai follows Capcom's lead. Besides going grey is a small price to pay if it's a great game which all Silent Hill games are. Yeah Ima SH fanatic!

i remember resident evil 3 was a game that kept me jumpy for awhile.. i hate being chased and that whole "stars" thing chasing me was scary. so maybe we'll have a scary residentevil. XD i'm a big silent hill fan i bought all of them and won them except for silent hill origins, i couldnt find it.
if your a silent hill fan i hope you're a dead space fan too XD cause it goes well with that game.
