I'm not so sure I like the control scheme, I mean I'm sure I'll get used to it, I just think if it's in 3D we should use the Nunchuck, but we'll see.
Oh heck yea! This game looks incredible. I haven't been following it much. But I remember it causing quite the stir at E3. I still need to get that MP Trilogy pack. Never did play 3. When does Other M take place again? Around Super Metroid or so?[if it says when in the article im sorry, I haven't read it yet =_=]
It's supposed to take place between Super Metroid and Fusion.

I see, I see. The Metroid series is definitely a series I want to get into to. MP is easily one of the best games ive ever played. One of my favorites actually...kinda forgot about it til recently.

Oh, yeah, it's an awesome series; I dare say it's probably my close 2nd favorite video game series next to Sonic. If I wasn't such a hardcore Sonic fan, Metroid probably would be my favorite. Truth be told the first time I played a Metroid game was when Metroid 1 was released on the VC and I fell in love with the series. I wasn't even really interested in the series until I downloaded the MP3 Channel though.
Man she looks so boyish. Kind of wish it was coming out on the DSi. Kind of wish it's 2.5D. Looks kind of promising though!

It is.
New gameplay video up on IGN! Looks pretty awesome, plus it has a more detailed 3D scene of the Mother Brain/Samus fight from Super Metroid!!
Madness! This game is going to be like...revolutionary. Totally going to take the market by storm. If it honestly plays how they're showing it to...i'm sold. Almost reminds me of that Nintendo Revolution video that was released like 4 or 5 years ago with the helmet and stuff.
Found this video while looking around on GameFAQs; it is awesome; I'm looking forward to it even more now so glad it comes out on my bday!! Oh, btw, spoilers!
So, this game is coming out tomorrow. Is anybody going to get it tomorrow or within the week? I've got it preordered so I'm gonna try to get it as soon as GS opens!
I am debating getting it. Best Buy has a $15 off coupon in their magazine... or I have more than enough GS credit to get it. But I still have No More Heroes 2, Mario Galaxy 2, and Okami to play and beat. So my guess is I'll just wait till I'm done with those before grabbing it.
I've heard good things and bad things about it. I don't have a Wii so I'll miss out but I hope its good regardless.
I'm looking forward to it and getting it as soon as it releases on uk shores. I bought Metroid Prime Trilogy to keep me going and I'm halfwayish through Prime 1 so far.
I'm getting it, it's only a matter of when rather than how or why.
Well, I beat the game yesterday before I went to work, and you should alay any fears about getting it! It's as awesome as any Metroid and feels like one, too; I really don't see why people are having problems with it. One of the things I like about it is some of the bosses from older games make an appearance
Also, I found the story to be very good and thought the ending was bitter sweet; I hope the next game has voice acting and includes some of the characters introduced.
I've got it now too, and I'm psyched. I'm glad they're taking the time to set up the story, since it really helps connect you better with Samus as well as with the squad as you progress.
And they are such teases - I've seen powerups I can't get to yet, and I know that I need at least four different upgrades to get access to everything that's in the first sector alone. Definitely a Metroid game.
My beef with Metroid fans who don't like this game is that many of them were complaining about the Prime games because there wasn't third-person platforming like they wanted - now a game comes out that does have that, and some of them whine about something else! Guess there isn't pleasing some people; I'm just glad I've always been fairly easy to please.
Is there an evil samus in there? a la Dark Samus or SA-X?
No, there is no evil Samus in the game, though there is a blond girl who
Honestly, I rented it, and didn't like it. The controls were unique, I must admit, but the lack of any other control options made it feel broken, especially when in first person (not able to move?!). The targeting system was really off and on in my experience, as well. Some of the cut scenes were insufferably bad, such as Samus giving a thumbs down to her orders. Ugh. Is this 1991? No.
All in all, I can see why people like it so much. It's Metroid. But let's be honest, if you take out Samus, and this were a normal science-fiction game, would you still like it? No.
I finished the game. Some pretty epic boss battles, some neat character development that none of the other games ever approached, although in some ways this game was narration-heavy and some of the plot threads introduced never really feel properly tied up (which is probably a large part of why so many people are dissatisfied with the story, even though there were also some rather neat twists). There were, as one of my theater teachers taught, too many setups and not enough payoffs. I think that it's excellent that they connected so much with the story of Super Metroid, though, as sometimes I feel like it's easy for gamers to forget the roots of the modern Metroid game series, and Mother Brain was really the big bad of big bads. Ridley can take a hike.
I do feel more than ever, though, that the game was a victim of being overhyped. It's not that uncommon - Sonic games, anyone? - for games to receive so much hype that when the gamers finally get to it, the game turns out to be less than they expected. How can any game that gets that kind of hype live up to it? So of course people will put the game down when they were expecting so much more. I'd say that overhyping a game is a form of deceit.
I do agree that locking on wasn't very solid in first-person mode. It felt like I could slip out of it fairly easily in a fast-paced battle, or miss locking on to something in the somewhat-frustrating sequences where you were locked in first person until you found whatever miniscule detail it was that the developers wanted you to pick out. On the other hand, it felt like when I wanted to look around to explore, I'd get stuck on pieces of landscape or objects that you can lock onto but that serve no real purpose. That said, the ability to transition in and out of first-person so smoothly was marvelous, and the fact that they gave you the ability to pull off so many moves without even using the Nunchuk made battles feel dynamic and rewarding to jump onto and enemy and blast them point-blank.
And all things considered, this is the first 3D Metroid game that was primarily 3rd-person perspective. Speed Booster alone was awesome to acquire.
All in all? Team Ninja/TECMO put out a game that really homed in on a lot of story details that otherwise would be left out for gamers who don't hunt down the Zero Mission manga. With the limited controls available, they made a fast-paced action shooter with a deepening story and lots of homages to previous games. I'd say for Metroid fans that playing this game is a must - but I'd also suggest renting it if you can first so you don't invest fifty bucks in a game you may choose not to buy.
