march 31st 2001 the dreamcast was discontinued :( , itll have been six years since the dream died, well in north america anyway, this topic is to talk about the little white machine that could, to honour it, and to get everybody on the site to take out their dreamcasts and play them like it was september 9th 1999.... again! :^^

Hahhaha *praises you* I still play my DC quite a bit[haven't since November 19th but once I go to college i'll be pluggin gin tons of hours]. That Dreamcast. Had so much potential. Many people never got to experience it. Boy that crazy looking controller with its cord connection at the bottom. That VMU unit that acted as a Tomadachi* type feature. Ahhh...sheer greatest. I'm still looking to buy games for it in the future. If only it had had a flippin Dvd player and came out at a different time with more 3rd party support it could have lasted...longer atleast. It was pretty much destined to fail though. =/ R.I.P.

thanx for the praise dude, yah it was destined to fail but in its 2 year life-span there sure were milestone games, not to mention the online capabilities that rival even the wii!

Sadly the only games I have for my dreamcast is Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. SA 2 is so scratched up that I can only play the first level of sonic and the chao world, and it's one of my favorite games ever.I was thinking of buying phantasy star online, but I wasn't sure if I could actually still go online with it. I actually played sonic adventure yesterday. It's still an amazing game.

Best. System. EVAR.
Had mine on 9-9-99. I was flabbergasted by Sonic Adventure. I had been out of the console game scene since my Saturn bit the dust so anything that happened during the PSX era I missed.
And just look at how much of the DC's library got ported over to PS2/Xbox/Cube in some way or another.

:'( All this talk of dying Dreamcasts and defective offspring is unbearable. In my eyes the DC has an everlasting lifespan. I plan on keeping it forever. I suppose quite a few of its offspring were adopted though. That's good, and it opened the portal to online console gaming. Muchos Kudos! Luckily, I had a PS and a DC as well as a PS2 so I got the best of all the worlds.(DC's being the absolute best) =)

Since it'd most likely be on a CD-R, you should check to make sure your DreamCast can play them. Sega got wise and removed the ability for the DC to play back CD-Rs in later models.

And I quotes (out of order) from another forum:

Well, the way they were made - all dreamcast can read cd-rs. But the later model ones cannot read the standard image that most rips are made in.

Most of the Dreamcasts out there are earlier ones anyways. If my memory serves me correctly, they stopped producing the DC hardware in march or may of 2001. So they only produced the later model for about half a year.

You just have to get one manufactured before October of 2000.

Check the Manufacturers Date (it's on the bottom of the DC). If its October 2000 or before (the further back, the better), you're good to go.
