is this awesome?

If so, better import it quick. North America won't be getting the add-on when Arkanoid comes out here. Instant rare, like the PC Sega Saturn controllers (still looking!). Hell, I remember when the NES Arkanoid came with a paddle controller. It's like 1987 all over again! *sniff*

As an avid Arkanoid fan (Doe's Revenge on the C64 being one of my first games), I will possess this.

The japanland release (play-asia) comes with the paddle, but costs £25 and game alone is for sale at £20.

Apparently you can order the paddle separately from PlayAsia, but the only color they still have in stock is pink. Looking around, I see that YesAsia has the silver in stock... but that most likely will change by next week. Ebay is also a good source.

The US, paddle-less version hits in June. Everyone's assuming the import paddle will still work with it, though.

Coincidenly, I hear Space Invaders Extreme is also compatible with the paddle.

Isn't it easier to use the control pad?

Arkanoid should never be played in digital. Just... no.

You do have the option of the stylus if you're sans paddle.

I'd just like to say that Space Invaders Extreme looks fantastic. It's like a fusion of Space Invaders and Rez - shooting and destroying ships creates sound effects that add to the music. A moving, abstract assault of color and shapes for a background also adds to the extreme-ism-ness.

Multiple weapon upgrades and invader formations, level-based gameplay with end bosses, Rumble Pak support, local and online battle mode, online leaderboards - all of this can be yours a few months in the future for the low, low bargain price of (insert your money symbol here)20!!!!

It's a shame the paddle isn't leaving Japan. Though, honestly, I can't imagine either Space Invaders Extreme or Arkanoid DS selling all too well, let alone the paddle. It's probably a good business move??

Though, if they sell well enough, we may see Exit DS and Legend of Kage 2 follow. Would that not be grand?

How shocking. I always thought it was called Bricks, or something like that, based on the computer version I had for years. =(

I'm definetly getting this, but the controller bundle is a little too espensive for me right now.

Arkanoid is a clone (one of many) of the original title Breakout by Atari. But despite that, after all these years it still manages to stand out on its own.
