...but no, we aren't talking white sands and palm trees here. We're talking bustling city streets, the pungent smell of burning rubber and the deafening crescendo of thunderous high-powered engines. The road to Paradise is littered with wrecked sports cars...
That's right, it's about time we had a Burnout Paradise topic on here. I looked through the last two pages and haven't seen one, if I missed it please forgive me and lock this topic, but it's high time this aesome game got the credit it deserved whatever the topic it's discussed in!
Anybody else play this at all? When I first heard about it (and considering the utter faliures Revenge and Dominator were) I was really uncertain, and had pretty much decided to avoid the game altogether. Then I tried it out at a friend's house, and it utterly blew my mind. This game is monumental...it beats even the spectacular Burnout 3: Takedown hands down! Blistering speed, impressive physics for an arcade game leading to intense and involving gameplay and stunning environments and damage, it impressed me so darn much that I actually bought a PS3 almost exclusivley for that title, something which I had previously vowed never to do until the next Gran Turismo!
If you don't have this, I'd recommend it fully, and if you do, what do you like about it? How far have you got in the game, what have you unlocked? What are you looking forward to in the upcoming DLC this month?
Discuss...and don't forget to shine the paintwork as you do...
myself and Susan managed to grab it for £25 from Play. It really is a blast, a really fun game, even for someone like me who's not really a racer fan. the only thing i had an issue with were some design issues - the inability to instantly restart a failed event for one, and i was a bit annoyed at the fact that i only found out how to cancel events when i was about halfway through getting the elite licence.
i've pretty much everything on the single player, tho i've still got a few mp achievements to get (360 version you see). the mandatory update with the new play modes is already out on Live but I haven't really bothered to try it yet. I'll check it some time in future.
I wanna know exactly when the new maps are going to be out, tbh
The DLC this month is opening up a new section of the map, another island off to the east across the bridges near the Downtown Plaza. It's due the twenty-something as far as I know, although you say Xbox might have it already...???
I agree that the lack of restart and finding out how to quit events are small downpoints, I know exactly what you mean on both counts. The rest of the gameplay totally makes up for it tho imo I managed to get the Criterion Elite challenge about a month ago, although getting some of the online challenges done was hard lol. Great fun tho.
What's your fav car so far? Overall I'd say the Carbon X12 is mine...I like other cars for specific jobs, like the 'Pocket Rocket' for Stunt Runs and the Hunter Citizen for Takedown battles, but the Carbon X12 is great for the Freeburn 'Today's Best' scores. Fast enough to take on most other cars up to the Uberschall 8, slightly crazy as to be exciting to drive, but not so mad as to be uncontrollable, and of course, stunt boost.
The update this month is actually the Bogart update, which features a few bug fixes and some new small features. Not the map update I'm afraid. That said, it's been taken off Live now.
Carbon X12 used to be my fav until I got all the billboards, then it became the Carbon...car you unlock for that. I forget what it was called. Either way, if the stats are trustworth it's the best in the game. 10 speed, 10 boost, 6 strength
EDIT: They've announced that a new patch coming in august will add motorbikes and night time play o.o
also i managed to dig up a specific list of what this month's update contains. Criterion's site can be hella slow when it wants to be tho.
and I only just noticed that Criterion does player stats o.o
You sure it ain't the map this update? I'm sure I've seen details somewhere on the oficial site that include the first island in that update, although I confess at the moment I can't find that detail. That list is a list of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks though, they might not have included the extra content due to it being in addition to those small changes.
Anyways whatever the case, the vids of the new island and new cars look pretty sweet.
All billboards? Is that the Carbon Hawker, or the Carbon Ikusa? If it's the Hawker then yeah, that ain't bad, but isn't it speed boost not stunt? I'm not keen on speed boost unless I'm racing. And the Carbon Ikusa - I'm not keen on that one...agression boost, and handles like a tugboat in treacle (really annoys me how many people choose it as 'Host's Choice' car in races!).
On the subject of cars, the Carbon Uberschall 8 is a nice car...fastest acceleration on the game, it leaps from start lines like a greyhound, and it's decent speed too. Just a little slow on the turns, so you have to manhandle it a little to get it where you want it.
Yeah the Carbon Hawker, that's the one.
And I'm pretty certain the new island is a seperate download, with an as-of-yet undetermined release date. If you look at the trailers for it some of the textures still appear to be placeholders so it still has a way to go before it's on for release.
Yeah I went exploring more deeply on the Criterion site after that post, and I think you're right, the new island is yet to be confirmed, and the new cars are due in a few month's time I think. Shame, I was expecting the island now (as I think a number of others were too o.O) but nevermind, it's still great fun
I also descovered Freeburn Marked Man, Road Rage and Stuntrun on my travels...darn, those are gonna be awesome!!!
