You can probably count on one hand how many MoForumers here have played or anticipate anything Shin Megami Tensei related... and yet I still felt posting this was absolutely vital. Yay fanaticism!
Playing the subtle card, eh? They're totally not.
Though I'm not completely ruling out Etrian Odyssey 2-roll.
I know them for publishing the "Touch Detective" series...
... but I'm afraid I do'nt know anything about "Shin Megami Tensei".

It's a game about japanese words that people on the internet are expected to know about
INSOLENCE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED
Anyhoo... I don't want to get into the extensive history of SMT (that's what Wikipedia's for) so I'll just cut to the chase. The countdown (very likely) concerns the possible announcement of Persona 3 FES, an updated version of Persona 3 that was released domestically several weeks ago. It includes, among other goodies, a new post-game 30+ hour quest called Episode Aegis. This expansion was released in Japan just before we got our English version, and there was no time for Atlus to localize and include it with Persona 3.
Why is this supposed announcement a big deal? Because Atlus may be going against established tradition: every previous Persona released in the states has had something major ripped away during localization for one reason or another: Megami Ibunroku Persona or Revelations: Persona over here had a hidden "second quest" scenario removed by Atlus USA in order to get the game out in time. Sure, for the most part the Snow Queen scenario had little to do with the main plot of the game, but gameplay-wise it was like playing a new game with different goals and a higher difficulty level. And don't get me started on the actual localization... it was the One Piece of RPGs.
When it was time to localize the Persona 2 duology, Atlus chose to ignore the first game Innocent Sin and brought over Eternal Punishment instead. Imagine... SEGA releasing Sonic & Knuckles but no Sonic 3 to lock on to. What travesty! And Innocent Sin had some of the most bat @#%$ ideas, including aliens and the resurrection of Adolf Hitler and his Last Battalion.
And so once again, it looked like history was to repeat itself and we were to lose out on something else (though this time it's something that was tacked on after the fact). But perhaps we won't. Guess we'll find out in 5 days or so.
And by we I mean me. Ingrates.

Also, an email sent out to those who signed up to the official Atlus newsletter:
Dear Atlus Faithful,
Ok, we give up. The rumors were true.
Persona 3 FES is coming to North America!
Months of trying to keep FES a secret are now behind us (which means all of us here can reflect on just how futile an effort that was).
So what's the big deal about Persona 3 FES? "FES" is short for "Festival," and in Japan, FES was released as a reward for gamers who picked up the original. Not only does the new FES content enhance the original game, but the new FES component is actually a game in and of itself, accessible right from the get-go. We think of it as two games on one disc. It is the definitive Persona 3 experience.
We will be releasing the stand-alone version of FES. There was of course the option of just releasing the "Append" disc (which would have required ownership of the original game), but in the end, we didn't want you to have to own anything else to enjoy the experience.
We'll have a ton more updates going out for FES soon, telling you about the extra features, content, and modes for you to enjoy. Thanks for being patient. We're glad you stuck around.
Oh, and we decided to set the suggested retail for FES at $29.99, just for the heck of it. Thanks for continuing to support us, Atlus Faithful!
Needs a PAL release.
Preferably tomorrow instead of the vanilla one we're getting.
Persona 4 revealed.
- July 10th release
- 85% Complete
- Looks like Persona 3 but better
- 180+ Personas
- Hashino is directing, Soejima is art director and character designer, Meguro is composing
- Takes place in the countryside, a more nostalgic environment
- The theme is murder mystery/suspense, it's a mystery thriller with twists and turns
- Multiple endings
- 1.5x the size of P3
- 60-70 hours
- There is a weather forecast system, and whenever there is a fog, a murder occurs
A trailer for the game will be included in the first DVD volume of Persona ~Trinity Soul~ (the anime). Oh, and yeah... it's for PS2.
I haven't finished P3 yet and already my appetite is whet for a sequel ^o^
So far my team around level 40ish and I think that I've got about 3 more shadows to defeat. Mid Sept to beginning of October abouts. I'm loving the game but there needed to be a bit more story involved. I think the balance between Tartarus and social link questing isn't perfect either but it's still damn good.
P4 sounds awesome. A mystery/suspense theme could work exceptionally well... but Europe probably won't get it until early 2010, if it even ever GETS a release over here. Shame. =(
As awesome as Persona 4 sounds, when can we expect the next main SMT game, oh mighty Atlus?
It's clear from the trailer and scans that Persona 4 will be reusing assets from P3. Of course this explains the short development time and the fact that it will be on PS2.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
wtf @ that Kuma "thing" being the new Fuuka
I would buy Persona but as far as I know it's not even released in Europe, so idk. =(
Yes,it will be realeased on April 22,2008.I have ordered it from amazon.
Actually it came out Feb 29th iirc. I've been playing on it since and have already gotten to January ingame.
Better tell him you're in Europe.
Quick, before his head explodes!
Persona 4 also needs a PAL release.
Persona 4 to hit U.S. shores just in time for Christmas.
December 9th, to be exact. $39.99 gets you a 2 disc set, one game disc and one soundtrack CD with select tracks from the game. Win?
The roar of enthusiasm about the release of Persona 4 was deafining.
I guess so! Expect more news to surface. I believe the emails being circulated right now make mention of a new trailer, I've yet to see it though.
EDIT: replaced box cover pic with better version
That cover art is quite sexy
