When I first saw it, I couldn't get over the fact that it resembled Chrono Trigger so much. Apparently, I wasn't alone.
Studio Archcraft interview

They were inspired to put together a game that melded many of the best elements from "golden era" Squaresoft titles. Like a fangame, but on a professional level. Originally, the game was scheduled to be released on the GBA but was later ported to the DS, and was expected to see completion sometime in "1st Quarter '07" but we're way past that now. However, it appears the game is still being worked on... though the team is still looking for a publisher.
I'd hate to see this game vanish into the void like so many other promising "indie" video game creations, even if it IS derivative.
Hmph, all that trailer did was make me remember that I still haven't beaten that last boss on Golden Sun. >_< No really that is gorgeous. Wow...reminded me of Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger as you said. Man, that really should be finished.
According to topics made in the official forum, Project: Exile now has a publisher and a projected release date of 1st Quarter 2008.
Lovely detail. I hope it plays as well as it looks.
They definitely took a page out of Secret of Mana and Chono Trigger. Me likey.
Lord knows why I never saw this topic ages ago.

You or anyone else Spiner. 😛 Good to see a release date...even if tentative. *thumbs up*
The trailer was practically screaming Secret of Mana. Do want.
Time for some updates:
- Project: Exile is now officially Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled
- As mentioned before a publisher has been found, Graffiti Entertainment will be distributing the game.
- Release date is now TBA 2008 (oh boy)
- European release planned.
You can find Graffiti's Black Sigil page here, new gameplay videos and screenshots within. And here's a recent Interview with Studio Ashcraft so you can get a heads up on where they are right now in regards to the game.
Ahhh sweet, sweet. It's got a name now.
I'm looking forward to this, it looks pretty interesting.
