Via digg and PCG.

11/17/06 - One less Playstation 3 on the market, one more PC gamer joins the team

by Norm the Intern, proud PC gamer

The staff of PC Gamer magazine gave away a $7500 Falcon Northwest rig to one of the first people in line at the Sony Metreon camping for a PS3. The winner stepped out of line, cut his wristband, and signed a contract saying he could never buy or own a PS3.

I just got back from the Metreon, site of the San Francisco Playstation store and home of the official US launch for the Playstation 3. The gang and I were there to represent the PC gaming community and to carry out a mission to convert one diehard PS3 fan to PC gaming.

Photos after the jump; plus, check out video podcast footage of the event and podcast discussion of what went down from the PCG staff.

I'll laugh if he wanted to Ebay the PS3 for profit.

he could just give the money to someone so they could go buy a ps3 and they give it to him

But then he'd own it and thus be in breach of contract O=

If somebody gave me the choice between not paying for a $7500 PC or paying $600 for a PS3, I'd take the computer.

well then he could pay someone(i'll call him friend #1) to go get it and then tell friend #1 they could have it but friend #1 would let them borrow it forever.
Now are you happy I just explained how he could have one without owning one

I'd love to see them enforce this contract. Seriously, it probably doesn't have the word 'binding' anywhere within miles of it.

Actually they signed it in the presence of a public notary and it includes a clause stating that PC Gamer editors will visit his house twice a year to make sure the computer is still happy and that he hasn't bought a PS3.

*sigh*

Why exactly do PC gamers need to go around and convert people?

PC Gamers: RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. YOU WILL ALL BE ASSIMILATED.

I'd own a PS3 anyway. I'd jsut hide it twice a year.

I'd do that too.

if I had money, time and patience to wait in line to, hopefully buy a PS3

It sounds like fun if you go with your family, bring a laptop in one of the cities with free public WiFi and a few laptops. Then buy seven of them and make huge eBay profits, several thousand dollars, just for sitting in a line for two days. PS3 + get several thousand - 2 days time = a good deal to me. o.o

Let's see. A free $7500 Falcon Northwest rig, a $600 PS3, a $500 X360, or a $250 Wii. Yeah, pretty much anyone would take the PC, no matter what system they prefer.
