my post was deleted. whatever. since i've just completed case 2, i might as well summarize what i said along with some more thoughts:

case 1:it was indeed glorious and the best starting case of the series. i felt frustrated a couple of times when i was ahead of the characters, but the game still challenged me to think. kristoph is cute, so i thought it was a shame to find out that he was a murderer. then again, i did find myself wondering why trucy seems to replace him as your aide in later cases.

as an aside, i found olga orly quite sexy once she removed her peculiar facade, even if she has a mentally hilarious name. i think the bandana sealed the deal for me.

case 2: completed it a few hours ago. trucy is adorable. mr. hat is badass. apollo reminds me too much of phoenix during the examination period, but i'm still alright with him. i find his perceive ability intriguing, but i'd like to see it outside of court as well. also, i really like klavier for being much more likable and laid-back than any of the other prosecutors in the series. not seeing the opponent break down just for losing the case is a nice refresher.

Have a couple of questions I can't work out. Anyone able to shed some light?

1. The events of case 2 begin with a hit and run accident. Is there a reason Pal is driving so fast, disregards the hit&run laws and smashes up his car?

2. Why did Vera Isaac Mendaz all of Apollo's cases into her artwork? During the case I was convinced she had some sort of future seeing power, and was curious to see why she did thy... it was just kind of ignored.

+1: No clue as to why Pal was driving so fast that he did a hit and run against Phoenix. Perhaps he just wasn't driving carefully and so accidently smacked Phoenix. The reason why he didn't stop was because he couldn't afford to possibly be in any trouble with the police... that or he was potentially scared concerning Wocky's health check up results and therefore what the Kitaki's would do to him later?

+2: They weren't Vera's paintings- the paintings following Apollo's cases were all drawn by her father, Drew. Remember; he was still an artist, just not as good as Vera. The reason why he drew those paintings was because he was constantly interested in the actions of Mr. Wright and therefore followed his actions throughout the talent agency with specific interest in their actions of court. With Apollo taking over but still essentially working from Mr.Wright, he became interested in Apollo's cases.

Finished the game a couple of nights back, and it is one of the best in the series. Possibly second only to PW3. I do have a couple of questions, tho;

Firstly, in case 1, why did Zak try to set up Phoenix for cheating? He didn't seem to harbour any hard feelings about their relationship. o.o The only reason i could think of is that he wanted revenge for being beaten by him before, but even then it's a bit of a fickle reason.

Also, why didn't Kristoph call Apollo out on the forged card? Phoenix admits it was fake, and Kirstoph recognises it is but shuts up when Phoenix points out only the real killer would know. But in the end he's found guilty anyway. If he had called the card out as a fake he would still be found guilty but at least he could have pulled Apollo down with him. All he would have to do is tell the police where the real card was (unless he destroyed it), or even request a comparison between the blood on the card and that of the victim. If it was truly faked they shouldn't match up - Trucy was the one to prepare the card, after all.

Overall, though, this game was great. Some excellent twists and storytelling, and I hope the next game is as good. I think Ema could have been a more prominent character, tho - after all the fleshing out of character in 1-5, i would have thought she would have had a working relationship similar to that between Gumshoe and Phoenix in PW2/3. Might have some more comments later.

Your surmassing of Zak's motive in planting the card on Phoenix is exactly right- he wanted Phoenix beaten purely for revenge purposes, I guess. On the other hand, one could also guess that he did so for the relative fame of beating the 7 year unbeaten Poker player and the prestige that could have come with it. A more likely guess is that he wanted to destroy Phoenix's reputation as this for Phoenix's... unethical use of Trucy's percieve power in a lot of his past games that enabled him to win. I guess he didn't like how Trucy's ability was being misused.

As for the issue regarding the forged card, I guess Kristoph's real beef wasn't with Apollo and more to do with Phoenix, even if it was Apollo who eventually was using Phoenix's evidence to take him down. It was more the rivalry fued between Phoenix and Kristoph that counted, and so perhaps Kristoph was prepared to lose that particular battle in contrast of the eventual war? (The Drew and Vera incident?) I can't really say I have a clue for this answer. *shrugs*

Anyway, Capcom could really shake the court system up in the next game with the Jurist system and they damn well should do. The court needs a good innovation, and this could be just the ticket. A system where you could perhaps monitor your influence of the Jurists, and this is determined through the pressing of witnesses, presenting incorrect evidence etc. It has a lot of potential.

That's actually one of the things I was confused about. We never get to see what goes on with Zak/Shadi and Phoenix. I suppose I can understand the pride of wanting to beat him and such, but then you have Nick ripping the necklace off of his neck, according to ORLY's testimony.

I could understand Nick taking the Trucy pendant from a dead Zak, but why pry it from a living and angry Smith?

Also, why was he so damned angry anyway? He beat Valant, he got the Gramarye hertiage to Trucy and not him, that's a good thing... why the angry ORLY whacking?

I got the game yesterday. I'm currently in the second trial area. This game is pretty awesome, and I just love Trucy. I'm a bit predisposed toward T&T, but this game has some awesome music. (Gavin airguitar = win on a thousand levels)

WHile the original court themes are the best, I believed that PW3 had the greatest overall soundtrack in the series, but I agree, PW4 has caused me to question this. For one thing the objection theme is bloody brilliant.

My two cents:

Game was too short (bought it one Tuesday, beat it the next Monday) and too easy (the contradictions were almost always blatantly obvious), but the writing was superb. However I know must question

what exactly became of Kristoph. I mean, he was already kind of found guilty for murder - bringing him down in 4-4 was rather... anti-climactic. I mean, what are they going to do with him? Give him less comfortable chairs? He's already in solitary...

If they'd gone ahead and said that he was later tried and found guilty of another count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of framing an innocent man of forging evidence, and for the first charge was sentenced to something damn harsh - like death - now that'd be fulfilling, damn bastard deserves it. Instead, all we know is that he's good at laughing. Meh.

If PW3's storyline still holds water in this new series, then all murder = death, hence the whole double jeapordy/avoiding execution thing and Dahlia. They just take a damned long time to get to it, given Dahlia met with Morgan, 4 years after being sentanced.

Thusly, yes. Gavin's conviction is more of a moral victory than anything, which suits me fine, given that the culprit of the final trial in Phoenix's saga was a damned nice man of whom I wanted to be found innocent and the game wouldn't let me.

If nothing else, the only positive repreccussion is Nick mentioning he was probably going to try and petition to the bar association that he get his lawyer badge back... which probably wont happen.

That was a slight problem I had with a few of the cases too, actually- knowing the solutions to the problems in advance but it taking the actual characters longer to figure it out themselves. XD

Yeah, I've had a that problem a few time throughout the entire series, but I think me guessing and Phoenix making a huge case out of it that I never would have dreamed up made up for it. XD

I just played PW1 so that doesn't bother me as much, but what really ticks me off are the pictures you get for beating cases in the New Case screen. The picture you get at the end of a case was sometimes a better reward than the ending of it, and they're gone! >=(
