Yes! I just watched this last night and man.. was I glad to watch it. So many elements of games put into it.
I don't want to spoil anything but its seriously worth a look. And a good laugh to in someparts.
I've been eagerly awaiting this thing ever since Will Wright's keynote speech at DICE 2k5. The video about made me go nuts with anticipation. XD
I'm pretty much going to spend all of E3 playing Spore.
and to think... the concept behind Spore is "games cost to much and we're lazy. Let's make the gamer do the work for us"
It's ingenius in concept and design. Sadly, I don't derive any fun from games which have no goal, story or puprose as they just stop being fun after a while; that said, I do think Spore has the potential to become something truly special in terms of gaming. I'm excited for the possibilities it'll open up, if anything else.
I saw this last night, and by god does it look amazing, especially for me as I love creation tools in games, and this game looks like one big creation tool. But I share Craig's opinion in that without goals open ended games get tiresome, often when it feels like you've done everything you can. However, this looks incredible and the sheer scale and variety in creationg is amazing. I truly want this game, even though I know it has a high chance of joining the likes of the Sims for me.
At first I was apprehensive about this thread in general...but now that I've seen the vid, I agree. This game looks like it'll kick ass. I definitely at least want to give it a try when it comes out, but likelyhood is I'll end up buying. 😮
This game has been in development for over a year, if I remeber right.
I am looking forward to it.
That is possibly the Greatest game in existance. Better Than all the great games there have ever been combined. I am truely moved by the SHEER AWSOMENESS that is Spore. It starts like the "Infect, Evolve, Repeat." Game, goes to an interactive version of those Discovery-channel uber-tight Dinosaur film things, then moves to something that combines the Survival of the Smartest race of Civ and the RTS prowress of Arge of Empires, to Full world war, to Galacic superpower.
...Frankly, I just want to conquer my enimies by throwing volcanoes around the sides of their citis and watch them MELT. =D
I agree with Craig on this one, but to less of an extreme. Games without a story, and that just seem to go on forever seem to have less meaning to me.
I'm not saying I won't have tons of fun with this game, 'cuz it looks freaking awesome. I predict it will end like Fable did for me. I will believe it to be the best game ever in existance, but when it comes out, I'll feel as if it was lacking something.
I will be blown away if this game does not change how video games work from that day out. It's just too... I don't know what. Something.
One question: The guy talking mentioned that the planet that attacked your spaceship was created by another player... This isn't gonna be an MMORPG, is it? If that's the case, I don't believe I'll have much luck with it. o.o

No. At your behest, and if you have an Internet connection, the game uploads your creations to a master server somewhere in Redmond. As you play, the game pulls in elements that have been uploaded from other people's games that could prove useful, challenging, or interesting. You're pretty much guaranteed to never get the same experience more than once.
Besides, we all know that if it WERE an MMO game, people'd spam the UFO's death ray like mad, and just leave you with "lol n00b ur gay" before leaving. Not good for a sandbox game, not in the least.

Populous did that 15-16 years ago, frankly.
The zoo planet idea sounds cool, but there doesn't seem to be a use for one, since many players would make one. In my opinion, open ended games are my bread and butter. It kinda lets you make your own little goals. In Black and White 2 I usually try to finish all the goal on one of the lands, then play around in it, blowing stuff up and throwing rock everywhere. If i bought Spore (which, God willing, i must certainly will) I would end up doing that.
I really love that creature creation element. Imagine all the screenshot flying around message boards of people creations. Sadly I think some people will make somethings that will be slightly... distasteful XD. I'd hate to bump into a planet populated by fuzzy.. er... things.. with legs running around and shooting at me.
The actual survival part intrigues me. Running around, eating things. I love the muscular engine. It looks absolutely amazing. The creature in the preview looked so real and live like.
...Just a thought, What happens if your Creature dies? o.o

YOU PHAIL IN EVOLUTION.

oo;
I remember my brother told me that Will Wright had the idea for this like three years ago, I never thought it would actually pan out.
This game seems truly amazing. The thing that really draws me in is the animal stage with how you can edit your species early on to change what it will be in the future. I agree with what Craig said about games with no goal, since I get pretty bored with games like that, but sometimes I still play the game out of curiosity to see if I haven't missed anything to do.
All I have to say about this game is that Q4 cannot come fast enough.
Actually, I was thinking more of UT2K7 for Q4, but Spore'd be nice, too.
Don't even talk about UT07. I'm not looking forward to getting kicked in the e-peen by that game.

In an attempt to satisfy my SPORE-iousity ( :.everyone groans.: ), I've dug up the unedited, one-hour presentation by Will Wright. It has all the gameplay clips of the previous link, along with more technical comments by Will and an expounded description of the philosophy behind the game.
