Soooo...Gamestop will soon be discontinuing the sales of Gameboy Advance games. I figure now is a good time as any to stock up on all the good titles. Now I've already found some I want but it'd be helpful to know what are some others I should look out for.
Ones I have:
Pokemon Leaf Green and Emerald
Final Fantasy 5 and 6
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Ones I'm looking at:
Metroid Fusion
Any remaining Castlevanias
Mario
Maybe Zelda?
You'll thank me later. This is what happens when GameFreak is taken off the Pokeleash.
Distilled 2D awesome.
bison_yes.gif, a definitive SRPG if there ever was one.
"Any remaining Castlevanias" you say. You mean "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" which is one of the top 5 Castlevania games and my personal number 3. It's got the highest replay value in the series, a SUPERB storyline and the only non-Belmont protagonist to rival Alucard in awesome and fun.
As for other games to get on the GBA. Well there's always Fire Emblem and Golden Sun.
Since Astroboy was mentioned, I'll throw in Gunstar Super Heroes. Also:
- LoZ: A Link to the Past
- LoZ: The Minish Cap[*]River City Ransom EX[*]Super Mario Advance series[*]Mario Kart Super Circuit[*]Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

lol, looks like I got my answers. Thanks!
Now here's hoping they have a sale on all this stuff...
I agree with many of the things in the thread linked. I also have to agree with their inclusion of Legacy of Goku 2 for being such a great licensed game. For some reason 3 sucks and 1 is unplayably bad, but Legacy of Goku 2 is just fantastic. The only downfall is enforced level grinding. The game wont let you progress until you get all characters up to very specific levels.
The Mega Man Zeros are good, although if you have a DS, the collection should be cheaper than buying them individually, even at a discount. I also enjoyed the MegaMan Battle Network series (1-4 was all I played though).
Aside from that, the Mario Advance series were nice remakes/ports... And the Kirby games
Definitely try to find Rhythm Tengoku if you can. It's an import Japanese title and it'll probably won't be as cheap as when I found it years ago, but it's a really fantastic game if you're into music/rhythm games.
M&L: Superstar Saga is up there as one of my favorite GBA titles, too. Don't deprive yourself of portable Yoshi's Island either!
Psx's link contained almost everything I would have reccomended. I'll push the reccomendation of Shining Force Legacy Of The Dark Dragon though, especially if you've never play a Shining game in your life. As for what it missed though;
- Sonic Advance. Seriously. 1 and 2 were good, and I loved the hell out of 3. They're not as good as the ye olde Mega Drive games, but still worth a look, especially if they are cheap. Speaking of Sonic...
- Sonic Battle. It's fantastic. I was a little hesistant of another Sonic fighting game, but it plays well and actually has a good story. Crazy, I know. =P
- Puyo Pop Fever. Yes, if you've played one Puyo Pop, you've pretty muched played them all, but if you don't have a portable version, you can't go past this one.
- Shining Soul. Just a good, solid little dungeon crawler. Get 2 if you can. 1 was good, 2 was better.
I figured I'd be a little different...
Now I know what you might be thinking...and you're wrong, it's awesome fun! It's a side scrolling platforming beat 'em up with good humour and follows the manga pretty well. Now it's very easy, but it's still good fun and you can punch bullets out of the air!
On the subject of remaining Castlevanias, there actually exists a Harmony of Dissonance + Aria of Sorrow double cart. In fact, when I bought mine (used), it was cheaper than the standalone used AoS cart. Granted, the double cart won't give you the bonus (can't remember what you got) that you would get if you hooked up AoS and DoS in the same DS, but it's something to consider.
I second Psx's Fire Emblem recommendation. Do pick it up if you can.
And for a recommendation of my own (even though it's already in that ginormous NeoGAF list)
It's like a weird combination of RPG and Visual Novel that just somehow...works. Doubly so for something meant for a portable system. In addition, it has quite the soundtrack to it, which is always a plus in my book.
lol, looks like I got my answers. Thanks!
Now here's hoping they have a sale on all this stuff...
Oh yeah, let us know what you find out there. Too bad Gamestop isn't currently having one of their Buy 2 Get 1 Free used game sales, you can really clean up.
I'm totally with Robo on that one. Seriously I was surprised by how decent that game was. Very, very fun.
Man I really hope Nintendo add GBA games to their 3DS Virtual Shop somewhere down the line.
BUY 2 GET 2 FREE on all pre-owned PS2, GBA, and GameCube games VALID APRIL 18 - APRIL 24 ONLY
OH LOOK
Yea, was about to post that. Don't know which games to go after first...too many choices!
Just remembered the greatest gba game that every selfrespecting gamer needs to own:
it's_a_trap.jpg
Lady Sia!!
I found a copy randomly on the floor once around a few months after it's release. I think it was in a parking lot or something, I honestly don't remember.
Not paying much heed about the game's bad press at the time, I decided to take it just to see how it stacks up. Well, let me just say that I should have left where I found it and every negative point about the game cannot be addressed enough, and in hindsight, the game actually feels even worse when you actually play it. Never have I owned a game as unplayable as that mess before; partly because it's a game that you have already played and expecting certain things to work as they should but they end up failing or not working properly, and partly because it's just badly put together. It's like some unique, bewildered experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else in life. And the Special stages actually feel even worse, not just because of the worse physics but because the changed the mechanics of the 'Reverse' button. I don't think I even got past Marble zone.
Man, that boxart just hit me with some mad flashbacks of that game just now.
Not that this is any way relevant, but I strongly prefer Ted Woolsey's original translation of ff6 over any other version.
This is why I own the SNES version as well.
At least we can all agree that FF5 Advance is the superior version, right?
Gilgamesh Morphing Time!
Gilgamesh, the number one reason why I love Final Fantasy V!
Now we fight like men!
And ladies!
And ladies who dress like men!
If I'm not mistaken, the GBA version (FFV) is the only one that has that line or am I wrong? It's been awhile since I played the PSX version, but I don't remeber Gilagamesh ever saying that in that one.
hence: superior version
