When I said "Could they just have SOME of the original series stuff in this new action game genre Resident Evil" I so did not mean leach zombies from Zero.

O YES! That might be Sherry . FINALLY! And the evil Villanness chick, prolly down with the Weskerz. Hell, she was being followed by a dude that looked like the Las Plagas monks, maybe the two are connected.

Hate all you want Craig, Leech Zombies are AWESOME! So are creepy Bat flying things that take more than a knife swipe to kill.

And this takes place 10 years after 2-so that's what 4 years after RE4? Holy hell! Sherry would be what, danged near 20? Awesoooome
:O.

Still no street date. So Still no X360 :O.

WHAT.

WHAT!?

Oh screw you, Capcom. "We last met at the Spencer Estate" and "-2000" invalidate Umbrella Chronicles, but more importantly Code Veronica, which is like my favorite RE game.

I don't take kindly to my game canon being tinkered with.

Still, the music sounds really really good, if they maintain it for the whole game we might have another RE soundtrack for my collection... and it seems decently epic enough.

Jury's still out on my thoughts.

We last met at the Spencer Estate

Well, technically there was a 'spencer estate' of sorts at the Arctic base in CVX, so perhaps Weskie was being sarcastic in his overall tone - either that, or the editing failed to show that he wasn't talking to Chris at all - after all, Wesker WAS at the Estate long before the Mansion incident.

Umbrella Chronicles isn't really meant to be 'Entirely' Canon - it directly contradicts far too much of Resident Evil 3, and some of the others, to be held as a part of the main series. It's a brief 'restructured' summary, but not really what the games have followed to this point.

Give it time - the details are sketchy here, at best...but I'm happy to see wesker, at all, in any case.

I took that into consideration. But I'm so much of a geek that I know that the Antartic facility was comissioned by Alexander Ashford, using the designs as an homage to the late George Trevor.

But you are right, I'm hoping he's talking to someone else. If they're keeping the glowing eye thing canon, they may aswell keep with the stories which originated them, aswell as the awesome confrontations they've had since. ^^

Ah, but even if it wasn't the actual mansion, he could still be referring to it as the 'Spencer estate' just to backbite chris with a little nostalgia - after all, they didn't meet again on very good terms during those events (IE: Wesker 'Grabbing' Claire)
I wouldn't put it past Wesker to be playing teh Mind games with Chris since he's VERY good at it, apparently.

Bring it on, Capcom - we're hooked...you just gotta reel us in now. 😛

ALTERNATE TRAILER - BIGGER, LONGER, UNCUT

"-2000"

It's hard to make out in the video but it most definitely says "2006".

RE is on the verge of totally changing its genre all together. But I bet there won't be too many more mainstream RE games made after this point.

I mean theres a CGI movie coming out called Degeneration.

Poor Jill . I guess she finally got sandwiched.

Look like Wesker is stronger and faster now. Makes wonder how Chris is going to kill him.

My big question is what big MUTHA will Wesker mutate into when the chips are down and he's in that do/die 'Near-end' moment...?
{Cause you just know he will eventually, folks! XD}

A Wesker Tyrant would just...well, it'd Own. No Shades, No snide remarks - just pure hate, violence, and death incarnate.

So, um... demo's out (on JP Xbox Live Gold).

so naturally, i'm downloadan off demonoid as I type

EDIT: hm, okay... played a bit of it. Man, I just could not get used to the new default controls. Having to use two shoulder buttons to fire a weapon or wield a knife just doesn't feel right to me. In fact, it really does control more like a typical FPS than a Resident Evil title... and my exposure to FPSes are few and far between. Though I'm sure the Halo crowd can acclimate themselves to it without too much of a problem.

I was glad to see that there was a RE4 type control configuration, but it still wasn't perfect due to the fact that they seemed to having the Run and Action buttons swapped with each other (to attack/interact with objects you push X, while A is used to run).

Graphics were incredible, and it's so satisfying watching Chris FALCOON PAUNCH an enemy or Sheva flip kick 'em into the air. Speaking of which... Sheva? Pretty good in a firefight from what I've seen, and even better when you're being pummeled and she comes around and gives you a quick Green Herb Injection to keep you in the fight.

That very last part sounds great. I can't wait to get my hands on this. Probably my next big title that I'll be getting. This or SF4, whichever comes out first. Early 2009 is gonna kick ass!

I had the same problem with controls, i found them overly complicated, but the demo practically throws you into the thick without much explanation. I also didn't like how slow the enemies were. In the trailer i was expecting an endless assault coming at me from all directions. Instead people will come up to you and just stand there waiting to be shot at. Great AI Capcom!

While i mourn the passing of the real RE, i will try and be optimistic for this new era of Gears of Evil. If anything, the game will be great co-op (to bad i'm so wonery)

So, I ended up seeing RE: Degeneration online a couple days ago.

It was an okay movie, the airport section of the movie is far shorter than the trailers made it seem, and the middle forty minutes of movie is mostly exposition and character development for a female "S.R.T" tact force team member, who Leon thoroughly igonres Claire for the entire movie to talk with.

I wont spoil anything, but it gives some hints on the company involved in RE5 and we finally get one of the lingering things of RE2 dealt with, but in no detail and thusly entirely unsatisfying.

Oh... the British guy is voiced by Crispin Freeman. I love him.

...really there's not much to say about the film. It's just Resident Evil game movie, starring Leon and pretending Claire was a wuss who didn't pwn Umbrella in Code V.

Yeah i saw the movie too, i didnt like it much, as i expected. I wish they could've just had fun with it, put some zombie air hostesses or drug sniffer dogs in there, zombies popping out of suitcases, etc. The airport stuff was surprisingly forgetable and the most boring part of the film really. It should've been Die Hard 2 meets Turbulence with zombies thrown in... at least that's what i pictured when i first heard about this film. The mental imagery of Bruce Willis and Ray Liota using disembowled zombie body parts to kill each other is quite pleasing too.

And it was so silly, you dont get trapped in an airport, there's like a million exits, run out on the tarmac, catch a helicopter an fly out!

I played the demo when it was launched on Monday. To be honest, my initial impressions were not good- the controls felt horribly clunky, not being able to walk and shoot felt bizarre (even not being able to slowly walk) and overall it felt a bit... wierd.

However RE has never been known to be great for its controls but if you perservere for a little longer you end up finding a gem underneath. I think the hardest part for me was coping with analogue control after the perfection that was the wiimote in RE4. After a couple more gos I excelled at RE5, finding that ammo was plentiful and the enemies were relatively simple to defeat. Afterwards, I only have two major criticisms of the demo.

1) Although not vindicative of the final game, what the demo showed made it look like it was just RE4 again with a facelift. The same opening area where you have to survive the time limit, and the familiar faceoff against a chainsaw-wielding lunatic. They weren't bad, but I expected something different and perhaps more from RE5.

2) The game isn't survival horror enough. For certain, fighting the chainsaw enemy was intense and definitely had my adrenaline running but for all the wrong reasons- it was because I didn't want to be one hit killed and have to restart the demo from the beginning again. I preferred more atmospheric and general creepiness, with hardly any ammo at all. Basically, the series has become far too action oriented and I miss the original gamestyle of the classics. Yes, they're dated but they had a brilliant charm of their own and REmake is certainly my favourite of the series. I want a remake of 2 and 3 in the same style as REmake, damnit!

I play-tested RE5 for the XB360. The multi-player mode is what really sets this game apart from the rest of the series. The playing style is very like RE4. The graphics are excellent and control is good.

It comes to stores in mid-March...

Resident Evil 5 the last in-continuity RE? A 'reboot' to follow? Scroll down a bit to see the blurb.

Actually, there's all kinds of news on that page I wish to discuss, but I've gotta go to work. Ciao!

We're discussing this now.

- Capcom's producer Jun Takeuchi mentioned that Biohazard 5 [Resident Evil 5] will be the last game of its kind in the series. Biohazard 6 [Resident Evil 6] will be a reboot of the series, although this does not suggest anything wrong with the current direction. Here is a new trailer of the game.

What I HOPE he means is that it's the last of the style that came along with RE4. The over the shoulder cam style stuff. It would be nice to be "rebooted" back to the standard third person mystery search style with a bit more puzzles than 4 or apparently 5. Really getting tired of chainsaws -.-....

Don't get me wrong I love it, but once 4 came out, RE0, 1 AND now 5 have taken this approach. I kinda wanna get back to the extreme puzzleage.

The fact that they have plans for RE6 makes me excited beyond belief, but It won't be around til' what, 2013? Ugh so far.

I was half-expecting some kind of new direction after Resident Evil 6, to be honest, since it then splits up the series' style into two trilogies; 1-3 being the static camera angles and old style of gameplay, with 4-6 being the over-the-shoulder gunplay action, with 7 onwards being... well whatever new thing it would have been. (I realise that canon-wise 0 and CVX screw this idea but original numerology-wise...)

Anyway, as far as I'm aware 0 and 1 haven't taken the over the shoulder cam approach at all. Unless the japanese wii-remake of 0 featured it? And I can't recall if REmake was ever REmade for wii either. But if it has, then o.o I'd imagine they'd still have had 'extreme puzzleage' and that it'd be the perfect balance for me. The puzzling of old in a confined area such as the mansion/police station with backtracking throughout rooms matched with the ease and range of combat brought forth with the RE4 system.

I thought it was, I don't remember 0 and 1 all that well myself...I should REplay them...bt 0 kinda pissed me off for a bit.

REmake was not made for the Wii, only for GCN. I truly can't recall if they were third person or over the shoulder? I say this because I thought RE0 was like RE4, with the switching of partners and what not, so I lumped them together as having the same type of viewing angle.

I do agree if they they kept the ease of combat, and the mental games at a nice balance, it would be perfect. Which is why they should remake CVX in that style, because that game had MORE than enough puzzles to complete-and WAY more than enough battles. Man - Bow gun action over that style of firing. Sweeeet!

Unless the wiimake of RE0 implemented over the shoulder shooting, which to my recollection didn't, then only RE4 and 5 have the over the shoulder style gunplay. REmake and 0 were completely traditional in having the static cameras and piss poor combat mechanisms which left you to ONLY wanting to avoid zombies ( wasting a ton of bullets and then having them ressurect as Crimson Heads in REmake = ohdear).

Honestly, I'd like the movements of the characters to be exactly the same as it was in the older games with the game having the static camera angles as usual with the traditional focus on puzzles exactly as it was in REmake, but as soon as you wanted to brandish your gun it'd change into the over the shoulder perspective.

...which seems like the ultimate compromise between old and new and something that I can't believe Capcom hasn't bothered doing already o.o

This is totally unrelated to RE5, but i'm watching Extinction right now. Boy...I would pay great loads of money to watch Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter go at it. Oh my gosh...I would deplete my savings to see that. 0_o But i'm not too big on the REs. I love watching friends play them, yea. But I don't. 😛 Must admit though...5 looks incredible.

Go bleach your mind and rid yourself of the memory that was the atrocity of Extinction. I am NOT joking.

A Resi 5 special on the television programme Playr showed some new footage that I at the least hadn't seen. Wesker speed dodging Chris' shots and then getting ambushed by Jill looked AWESOME.

It was supposed to have shown how she died before the current events of RE5, not during the main game's story itself. You silly presuming sods.

And if I was to even begin detailing what I hated about Extinction or the entire movie trilogy in general I would be ranting and raving until the zombie apocalypse actually happens. And I do not feel like wasting precious time preparing for such an event by wasting words on the trite that was Paul W. Anderson's adaptation.

Plus: RE5 bird woman. =)

It actually looks rather nice (graphics wise). It would be much better if when the zombies bit you, you could actually see the saliva on your limbs. But somehow, I feel like that's not happening anytime soon. Dang sooper graphics that aren't as sooper as they seem.

I was watching the live stream of the two guys playing the game when it got leaked last week. Needless to say, they were atrocious. Anyways, from what I saw (which was the whole game), I can say that I already like it a WHOLE lot more than RE4, which I loved.

Got the game at midnight and beat it earlier today. Its pretty fun and bad ass. Only downsides for me where there were practically no puzzles at all anymore (something I really miss in a RE and would have made things more longer and less straightforward) and switching ammo on the run for the grenade launcher sucked ass since it wouldn't swap automatically if you ran out of one type, which would screw me over at times when I would try to change it and got ambushed. And a few other things, that are spoilers, but overall it was a really fun ride. Gonna play it over again and do the mercenary mode.
