Though, I could have swore there was already a topic on this, but I couldn't find
it!
As for the trailer itself: 'Eye' see what they did there.
PSX. Once again you have made a mundane day awesome.
Thank you.
Regarding trailer: OMG! Orchestral version of "The Ultimate Bio-Weapon" as BGM <3
and Claire awesomeness! I hope she remains in the series, Chris and Leon are too... stock guyish action hero. There're too few female awesome characters and I'd take Claire over Jill any day.
Animation looked stiff and the dubbing was horrendous.
I was extremely hyped but now I'm only cautiously optimistic.
Looks good. I'll most likely love it. Claire is cool (I prefer Jill though ) and good to see the crew from RE2 (my favorite in the series) back together again.
Well, it's no Advent Children in terms of CG quality from what I see, but hype = increased for me. SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD.
Finally!!! a good resident evil movie Yay! now if only we could get some more classic games a CGI movies. like zelda or phantasy star.
Phantasy Star? I can see Zelda, but I don't think Phantasy Star would make a terribly decent movie, but that's just my opinion!
I can see Phantasy Star being more of a series instead. Or a mini-series, whichever.
Pach-WHAT? Dubbing was not horrendous! For once I actually liked the dubbing! I do agree with you on the animation being a bit stuff. Can you not make a seemingly more realistic hand waving motion? I just tried waving my hand like that-DOES NOT COMPUTE!!
But it looks good. I haven' even heard of this, but I'm psyched. And yes. Shoot them in the head!!
Was that a flashback I saw?
I need this movie. I must have it.
GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEEEE.
Review: Resident Evil: Degeneration's Boring Puppet Show
By Chris Kohler October 10, 2008 | 12:07:00 PM Categories: Tokyo Game Show 2008
TOKYO -- Don't go into the new zombie film Resident Evil: Degeneration expecting a movie. It's more like a 90-minute-long videogame cut scene.
Capcom and Sony Pictures chose Tokyo Game Show for the world premiere of the CG-animated flick based on the horror game franchise, screening the film Friday for an audience of media and game industry professionals at the show. Degeneration will play for two weeks in Japan before making its U.S. debut at next month's New York City Horror Film Festival.
Wired.com's Chris Kohler and Jean Snow went to the Tokyo premiere, and presented their thoughts on Resident Evil: Degeneration below.
Chris Kohler: I kept waiting for the videogame to start.
Jean Snow: The videogame that we wanted to play actually came when it was all done, when Capcom showed a game trailer that looked better than the entire 90-minute film we'd just watched.
Kohler: Yeah, what does it say about Resident Evil: Degeneration when the trailer for the videogame Resident Evil 5 actually had nicer CG graphics than the movie? Videogame players are used to watching cut scenes acted out by stiffly animated marionettes that resemble Real Dolls more than real people, but will this trip deep into the uncanny valley be acceptable to the audience that watched the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies?
Snow: I was let down by the movie's look. As you mentioned while we were watching it, it wasn't really much above what we've seen in the cut scenes of even really old videogames. Maybe it had a bit more polish on it than your average game scene, but only a little.
Kohler: Yeah, I don't know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't the same kind of plasticky, unrealistic digital actors that populate every next-gen videogame on the Tokyo Game Show floor. It's not simply that they're not detailed -- they don't move realistically, and the lip-syncing isn't that hot either.
Snow: Regardless of what it looks like, the main question that fans will have is how this film advances the story line of the Resident Evil universe. After all, that's one of the selling points of this movie -- that it ties directly into the plot of the games while the live-action films do not.
Kohler: I suppose it does do that -- the plot of the film leads directly to Resident Evil 5, so die-hard fans will likely scrutinize every last detail. The plot follows characters from the games, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as they attempt to put down yet another outbreak of a manufactured virus that turns people into zombies. As someone who's just casually interested in Resident Evil games, I found Degeneration's plot to be entirely insubstantial, a paper-thin excuse to shoot grotesque zombies. I'm not even quite sure what happened. The storytelling was not good enough to hold my interest.
Snow: I couldn't agree more. It didn't feel like there was much advancing of the overall plot. Yes, the T-virus is still alive and kicking, and by the film's end, the characters have faced hordes of zombies, and defeated them. Doesn't that just sound like what has happened in every Resident Evil game?
Kohler: The fact that I kept thinking that we were watching a videogame play itself wasn't just because of the game-quality animation or the thin plot. There's a bit too much self-referential foolishness. Leon goes into a soliloquy about how to conserve ammo by going for head shots on zombies. Sequences are occasionally shot in unrealistically steady first-person. Sometimes it's on the level of an Uwe Boll film.
And it doesn't help that all the voice acting is just as stilted and awkward as the rest of it. The press release we got as we walked in touts the fact that the same actors from the videogames play the main characters. I'd have traded up, myself. The dialogue sounds exactly like it was written in Japanese and translated way too literally.
Snow: To be honest, I would rather have experienced this as a game. And it worries me that Capcom made a big deal before the screening about its plans to create more media projects like this based on its franchises.
Kohler: I mean, you know they're making another Street Fighter movie.
Snow: Unfortunately, yes.
Kohler: The whole thing's just bizarre. Degeneration is the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children of the franchise -- a movie that die-hard fans will likely defend, but general audiences will not get at all.
Snow: This is going to satisfy hard-core fans, and that's about it.
Kohler: And even they're going to be like, who are these plastic people?

Resident Evil: Degeneration opens Oct. 18 in Japan, and has two theater showings currently scheduled for the United States -- Nov. 13 in New York City and Nov. 18 in Los Angeles.
WIRED Does not give you a horrible zombie virus when you watch it
TIRED Unrealistic animation, lame plot, forced dialogue
Rating 3/10
All their complaints seemed perfectly justified and were my impression and worry just from watching the released trailers so far. It seems a bit dissapointing that Capcom didn't bother to improve it in any way, shape or form, but since I've been expecting this from Degeneration since my first look at it, I can't say I'd be hopelessly dissapointed when I do go and see it.
Well, barring what could have been, that is.
Yes. Despite the negativity I still *have* to see it, seeing as it ties to RE5.
I'm such a sheep. Baa.
I know the feeling.
Buuuuuuuuut.
Just like Advent Children, it'll be downloaded by everyone who would see it before it reaches this country, so if it's good, I'll pay money, if not... well. It's not like history didn't tell Capcom this would happen before they started.
I've already beaten Resident Evil 2, already, and I hope to beat the whole entire game of every single Resident Evil Videogame someday, by finishing the whole entire gameplay and game stories Which is exactly what I did with Resident Evil2 already.
Beautiful. Though this movie is set almost a decade after RE2 and just features it's playable characters.
I suggest finishing 3, Code Veronica and 4 before watching, as it ties into the plot of 5.
No REmake or 0, Craig?! How dare you, blasphemous heathen. REmake is the best RE game
From a story perspective he can skip out on those two, unless the Trevor and Marcus families are involved in this movie, in which he would then need to play REmake and 0.
Thanks for your input on the Trevor and Marcus families Craig Bayfield, I'll try to search up some information on those families online soon enough, out of curiousity.
ouch, sucks to hear that. oh well, I'll still probably end up getting it on dvd since it goes with the games.
I wish you luck on what you're looking for Incognito123.
Laaaame. Ima dl it, and see it, and maybe (BIG maybe) I'll pay money, Man, talk about missing Halloween -.-.. Nov 13th before it hits here? Lammmme Im not paying 12 bux to see it.
PSX. You have given me a great gift this day. If I were not at college right now, I would watch and rant either love or venom, but for now I shall hug you and wait for the moment I can watch.
Will type more about it later.
Also. THANK YOU <3
It's not terrible, shock horror - I'll certainly consider either the download or DVD on release...being the Resi Loving Umbrella Fan I am!
Just in case it's missed (I know *I* did!), I've added a link to the 2nd part of that DVD preview in my previous post... bringing the running time up to 11 minutes and some change.
Oh wow. Wow. Wow. WOW!
I know the graphics aren't amazing, but DAAAYUMN. I am happy and want to watch the rest.
Also, I was :D:D:D when I heard British man, then it was grey haired man with regular glasses. Not to say it ISN'T Wesker, but lack of red eyes, grey hair and such = not Wesker.
Given that The movie's pretty much in the Game canonverse...CLEARLY that man wasn't wesker. 😛 No second bests here!
;___; I CAN DREAM!
Based on what I've seen so far, I'm planning on watching this movie soon, I just don't know how soon though, so I'll just have to wait for awhile.
