About a month ago, I discovered another online RPG. No, this one isn't a flash game like MechQuest. And it isn't the Ragnarok Online-esque Trickster that I referenced a few years ago now. This is RF Online (the RF stands for Rising Force). A MMORPG that features mechs, guns, swords, even bigger guns, and hot elf chicks (I happen to know this last one is a major selling point for most MMORPGs). It's free, despite being a 3-D game with fairly good graphics and generally reliable service. It features a three-time daily war between the three races you can choose from, countless upgrades and skills, and some pretty darn cool weapons. You can have up to three characters, which is great so you can have one in each tribe to see what they are like.

Here's the link to the main site where you can download the (rather hefty) installer: www.rf-onlinegame.com/

I've played with two characters so far, who I'll show to you in these screenshots (which were taken when I had the graphics settings at their lowest):

Darn it, Terg! I've got enough on my plate as it is without having to add this to it!

Just... not enough hours in the day, man. Just not enough. ;_;

No.

Damn Tincans are WAY overpowered. I went back for awhile after it went free but I found my beloved Bellato community had desolved into a cesspool of stupidity the likes of which had only been seen on Halo and CounterStrike.

Yeah, the Bells on the Solus server aren't doing too hot - they get creamed nearly all the time by the Accs, which is a pain in a way because I'm clearly divided between the two races >>; It's obvious that the Accs are really popular and get high numbers to join them. Though oddly enough the Coras seem to be able to defend their chip really well in the Chip Wars.

I've started playing a Cora too. I'd post pics but I'm going to need to clear them with the staff because they're pretty darn hot. 😛

Do they still look like BDSM trannies?

I'm sure it's just a grind, like every other MMORPG out there.

It is a grind - but one that I've strangely found more interesting than most. Part of it is that you have to use all kinds of weapons to level them up so you can use better weapons of that type - so it isn't just about leveling up with experience, you have to use skills to raise their level. Which also influences your stats (melee raises hit points, ranged raises stamina, skills and forces raise FP, etc.)

Another part is that there is the motivation to level up so you can be powerful enough to help in the Chip Wars. A difference of even two or three levels makes a huge difference, and you have to be at least level 30 to make a dent in the wars - and if you want to not die fifty times while doing that, then you need to get stronger. I participated in one war with my Gunner Accretian character, and it was all I could do to keep throwing my body into the fray to distract the enemy from hitting more useful people. Not the most glorious first time, but it taught me how critical it is to be a higher level to contribute to the entire race.

And, while it is difficult to grind between 20-30, once you hit 30 and get your upgraded class, it really kicks butt to use the new skills and equipment you get as a result of it.

And yes, the Coras still look like that, Rico. XP I guess anyway, the most modest stuff they had for the guy was a black leather outfit.
