For Brawl and to play GC/VC games on Wii.
I could use a GameCube controller but I want it to be wireless, as that is one of the advantages of the Wii and my current Wii setup kind of requires it.
First question, are such controllers unblockable and how do I tell which ones? My Wii is behind my monitor so any dongles on the controller ports will be blocked.
1. WaveBird
It's first party and has the many advantages that come with that, but has no rumble, and programmability would be a big deal with Mega Man Anniversary Collection as it uses a stupid button scheme.
2. Thrustmaster Controller
It is programmable and has rumble, but there are some mixed reviews on the responsiveness of the analog sticks and analog shoulder buttons.
Hmm...I wish I had an answer man, but I know my friend came over today and he used his Wavebird for Brawl. He was owning up on some people too. 😛 The classic controller would be your best bet for VC and Wii games, but the GC thing really makes it tough. No idea about the Thrustmaster[*chuckles*] though. Third party peripherals are always iffy w/me, due to my previous experience on the PS2. *shrugs*
No classic for these reasons: GC, I don't want to switch out the nunchuck, wires, and it is hella awkward with the wiimote dangling.
Go WaveBird. I've had one since the summer it came out. Nice, responsive... Are you really missing that much with rumble? Yeah, it is nice, don't get me wrong. IIRC the only reason WB lacks rumble was due to energy saving... which obviously isn't a problem in today's world of 360 and Wiimotes.
Does WaveBird work if the dongle is behind the monitor?
Yes Vec. It works just like the Wii mote (not the IR part). You can walk 2 rooms away and still use the WB.

I agree.Playing video games has never been more enjoyable than with the WaveBird wireless controller. You can sit anywhere in the room, and in any position and the controller works flawlessly. Also, as a long-time videogame player, I've had to struggle with the old cord-dangling-in-front-of-the-screen problem, but with the WaveBird you can even put your GameCube on top of the TV instead of having to pull it closer to you or off of the TV to accomodate the unusually short cord on the standard controller. Here is a good deal about this controller : http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=93803&ru=281
