games.kikizo.com/news/200508/141_p1.asp

Read into it what you will. Apparently the source is VERY reliable, so who knows? If this is true, this'll be the best gaming news i've heard for a LONG time.

JOYGASM
Next Generation Multi Format possibly.
JOYGASM
Yu Suzuki not really involved.
BOO!
Only on the process of porting to a console
Not sure what to do now! could take a while that one.
Most likely Xbox 360
erm...not sure
Then PS3 etc

Oh yes. I've only recently completed Shenmue 2, so I'm anxious to see if this finally gets released. And multi-system relase sounds good too.

Give it to me. 😀

Man, I've been waiting for Shenmue III since I finished the second way back on the Dreamcast. I'll definitely be getting it, should it actually get completed one day.

I'm certainly happier about this than Shenmue Online. I've had a bad feeling about that thing since it was announced, and I'm quite glad it's (probably) been cancelled. The series just doesn't seem to suit an online game, y'know?

I'm probably gonna be ripped to pieces for saying this but I have never played Shenmue so I'm not sure why it's so great!

Can anyone fill me in?

Emerald, Shenmue is....something I don't know about either. =P I've seen and heard so much about it. Maybe I can get Shenmue I and II for my Dreamcast and find out about it, then i'd be overly excited for this news as everyone else is. Although for some reason I, too, find this news of Shenmue III very awesome.

Shenmue has two halfs. (my memories of Shenmue are quite vague now)
Story, drags you in to find out what happends to Ryo Hazuki. Who has had his father murdered by Lan Di. The first game was all in Ryo's hometown. The second game was in Hong Kong and Wanchi and Bailu Village.

The Game, playing the game was like any normal rpg really. you talked to people to find out where Lan Di is. but then there was time and other things to do. the second game also had you in having to take on part time jobs to earn money.

me talking about it doesnt do it justice really. it sucks you in. Some people said that its a better expierence to watch than play though. i wouldnt say they are wrong. but you know...

Well, don't forget the combat system (somewhat like Virtua Fighter), as well as all the details like the arcade games (Afterburner, Space Harrier etc.), QTEs (quick timer events, pressing a corresponding button to make a cutscene carry on correctly; more fun than it sounds), the sheer amount of (fully voice acted) people to talk to, the (for its time) excellent graphics, how much the whole thing can draw you in...

Also, you could collect capsule toys. It becomes some kind of Dali-esque addiction within an addiction.

I'm also in the crowd who hasn't played either Shenmue or the sequel. However, I have plans to play both titles eventually.

HS2K3, in case you didn't know, you'll have to import Shenmue II if you want the Dreamcast version, it was never released in the US, although the UK and Japan both got the title. Microsoft gained the rights to exclusively release the game on the Xbox, so it ended up being cancelled instead over here and released on their console.

:( It sounds great!

Curse my ignorance, I shall ever regret this! Hopefully, I can go about getting Shenmue I and II and most definitely III, so long as it isn't one of those games that starts brilliant, sequel is better then third lets the side down. But by the sounds of things, it doesn't sound like Shenmue is one of those titles.

Be warned, Shenmue's an aquired taste. Sure, I think it's great and I expect most of the other people who've played it and posted in this thread think so too; it doesn't mean that the series doesn't have shortcomings.

For one thing, there are sections of the game that can be extrememly tedious. For example, you have to actually get up and go to work. In the game. I would say, however, that the final product is more than the sum of its parts. It's worth it in the long run, methinks.

Heh, I liked the little race you did each morning at least. Plus, you got more money to waste at the arcades.

Yeah that was really neat. I purposely came in a different position each day so i got Forklifts 1-5 LOL. I don't know why people found that bit boring, because it would stop every few minutes to beat some thug ass or something. That was always interesting LOL!

I always found it funny how you kept on getting raises for exceeding the quota. The sheer amount they ended up paying you makes you wonder how they stayed in business!

I've got to say my favourite event of the (first) game was the 70-man battle... I hope that the sequel will be able to have a good number of impressive set pieces like that. I didn't really mind the job; it was just a little slow.

Shenmue II's option to fast forward when you had to be somewhere at a certain time was a really good idea. I guess since Shenmue III will be starting back at the beginning, there'll be the option to do that in the first chapter, too. Pacing probably was the series' most inconsistent aspect.

Agreed. Waiting for a bus was a pain in the butt, and perhaps that's the only thing that annoyed me about the original. It's quite amusing because when I first played Shenmue II, I was virtually homesick, missing Yokosuka, Nozomi etc LOL. No game has ever made me feel that way. Perhaps when I play Shenmue III the same will happen? I dunno LOL!
