Nintendo of America have revealed that a brand new version of Tetris is being developed even as we speak to take advantage of the DS WiFi Connection, which went live globally last year. The new multiplayer-ready Tetris will launch on March 20th, the same day as Metroid Prime Hunters in North America, and will be the fifth game released to take advantage of the new wireless online connectivity.

Now all Nintendo need to do is make a Panel de Pon DS--online. Make it happen, Nintendo!

My faith in a higher being has just been restored. ^^

I'm loving the top screen Mario going while you play Tetris. Hmm... I wonder if you play with the D-Pad, Touch Screen or can choose?

Ehh.

Tetris still remains as the father of all puzzle games, but it really hasn't innovated or changed at all since its inception.
Some people may prefer it that way, but when you play Tetris and then play something like Meteos or Lumines, it seems incredibly dated.

Meteos 2 online plz.

Eh. I haven't played Meteos but I would rank Tetris and Lumines on the same level. Panel de Pon slaughters them both mostly because of the strategy invovled combined with the frantic gameplay of lining up the blocks to make the perfect continuous combo.

Tetris is Tetris though. It's well-known, popular with people of all ages, and it would probably move some DS units. Well, more than Meteos ever did. =/

If they release this, what am I going to play on my calculator?!? Now I might have to do my math on it?!?

Tetris might be 'dated' but in my opinion that's not such a bad thing...I just bought a NES to relive the classics...this is one of the features the Revolution is banking on...

Online Tetris!?! I'm game!

All of the backgrounds are from classic Nintendo games. So there is something evil to distract you.

Even more reason to get a DS. I'll continue playing Tetris for GP32 in the meantime.

Except the Balloon Fight guy isn't part of the background. In the 10 player wireless screenshot, one of the player icons is the BF guy. Perhaps a CPU placeholder?

Slightly off-topic, but if you enjoy tetris, then one of the best clones I've come across is EITtris (www.ericjorgensen.com/eittris/). Only supports 4-player, and doesn't have network-play, but includes a variety of amusing things you can cause to other people, thus allowing for a certain level of vindictiveness :evil

That and it's free...
