I haven't seen anyone else here report this, so as you may have all
heard, the Smithsonian American Art Museum is opening a video game
exhibition in 2012. And as you may have all heard, the 80 games that
will be presented at the exhibition will be decided by a public poll
divided into five eras, each with four categories per console, three
games per category:

"But SonicV2, why should we give a *****", you ask?
Simple, the answer is: Despite the lack of S3&K, Sega got a good lineup.
All you need
to vote is an email address. The voting deadline is April 7, 2011. You
know what must be done, fellow MoFoers. Oh, and spread the word.
I voted for the following:
Banjo Kazooie
Paper Mario
Sonic Adventure
Skies of Arcadia
Phantasy
Star 4
Donkey Kong Country
Jet Set Radio Future
Paper Mario 2
Fire
Emblem 9
Super Mario Galaxy
Pac Man
E.T.
Phantasy Star 1
Donkey
Kong Arcade
I voted for so damn much...but I WON'T vote for FF7. Ever! 😛
GOD DAMN IT. I voted for Earthworm Jim before I realized I couldn't also vote for Sonic CD. Aw well, I'm sure that game doesn't need any help anyway. Also agonized over Sonic Adventure or Crazy Taxi. The former won. Was happy to vote Earthbound over Link To The Past (though ironically, this was my favorite one. Oh well.) though.
For all your lightgun shooting needs and some other insanity too.
The lack of Mega Man Legends upsets me greatly!
But I voted for Mega Man 2
Had a nice big post for each era and votes and stuff, but still computer decided it hates me. >>
Quickly then; Most of that were no brainers. There were however some hard choices to make (Deus Ex, Doom II or Unreal? You guys suck!), plus a lot of great games missing. In the end, it doesn't worry me too much though. I'll never see the exhibition anyway. =P
And here I was hoping people would actually post some of their favourite art from video games. =/ Speaking of which, why not? I'm a massive fan of concept art for games. Why not have people post some of their favourite art?
I love this image of Uncharted 2 so much that I'm going to have to get it printed. It's gorgeous:
Bioshock's art and aesthetic was gorgeous as well:
Doesn't need to be just concept art either, but actual promotional art, box art or in-game art would be good too. What are your favourite pieces of video game art?
Hardest decisions were between Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger, and Wind Waker and Tales of Symphonia, though ultimately Chrono is just better than LttP and Wind Waker is one of my favourite games ever.
