Is there a game that fits the description in the title? Because I am very interested in playing a Pokemon game. Liek, seriousleh. Where's a cheap place to start when the only handheld you have is a DS?
GBA(if DS Classic or Lite):
Emerald
FireRed or LeafGreen
DS:
Platinum
HeartGold or SoulSilver.
These are arguably the closest any official versions come to being "definitive".
Heart Gold/Soul Silver
Heart Gold/ Soul Silver
Heart Gold or Soul Silver are remakes of Gold and Silver for GBC, which are widely regarded as being the peak of the series.
So yeah, start there. (Also, you only need one of the two versions to enjoy the game, they don´t differ that much from each other.)
Well, I just picked up SoulSilver. Most of what happened since that point has been a blur, because I have litterally buried myself in the pure, definitive, infinite awesomeness of this game. Yes. YES. YEESSS!!!!
*bricked*
Definitive Pokemon spin-off, perhaps?
the game was great, i tells you! it deserved to be recognized along with the mainstream titles!
It's the Academy Awards after Beauty and the Beast all over again!!
I smell one epic fail pile of pokepoop.
I don't get it; is that irony? Did people not like Snap? 'Cause I liked Snap.
i remember watching of my friends play pokemon snap nearly all the way through.
i think the alcohol made it better, but it seemed pretty good
on a seperate note, i think you'd be best starting with firered and leafgreen

If nothing else, the in-game Help system can be a great asset for Pokenewbies.
Psx, please don't bring up Pokemon Snap again...I wanted to forget it...=(
Never played Snap, but I did quite enjoy Hey You, Pikachu, which I first played during my high school years.
Story-wise, each game is more or less self-contained, but HGSS makes countless references to the exploits of FRLG's protagonist, and Platinum briefly references a major story event from HGSS.
~don don don don don-da
tanna tanna tanna tanna-taaa...
I absolutely LOVED Pokemon Snap! I used to spend my time throwing smog balls at Charmanders and watching them get up and yell at me. <3
Sega should take an example from Nintendo. They can take an idea for a gamme that just OOZES lame, and turn it into a god time.
tiggerkiddo: WE WILL NEVER FORGET! :;Waves flag high::
Snap was fuggin fantastic,. best spinoff game ever-closely followed by Ranger. Smacking Bulbasaurs until they reverted back into Ditto's My god fun. Finding the hidden stuff in each level. Hell getting Chansey! My god I remember all of that. I'm pretty sure I could get a good 65-70 if I played it right now just from memory..
Psx-where'd you get that? Of Gold meeting Red, its fanfrickingtastics.
back on topic...HG/SS is a fantastic starting point for Kanto/Johto.
Story wise, I say yeah Fire Red/Leaf Green to be the true beginning-then get you some HG/SS to complete things.
Emerald and Platinum for the rest.

Internets. It's from a fanart that was cropped and ani-gifed for added HOOOOOOLLLEEEEEEEEE SHHHHHEEEEEEEEEET factor.
Hmph... I still say that a new player should start with FR/LG over HG/SS. Since these new remakes are so highly regarded as the best, why would you expose someone to that level of awesome from the get-go? Allow them to work their way up... they'd appreciated the new features all that much more.
what i like about pokemon snap is when you take it back to the store you can get the picks made into stickers that was fun. so it was one of my favorites also pokemon stadium, it had fun mini games and the most exciting battle system ever.
as for new age pokemon games i'm gonna buy this one if i could, i really love the pengiun there, i bought a candy toy of him too

Are they ever gonna make a full-3D MAIN Pokemon RPG? 'Cuz that would be hella tight.
You mean a home console version, as opposed to handheld?
Didn't they try that already with Colesseum and Pokemon XD?
I'd have said Fire Red/Leaf Green were the best since its easier to follow and get to grips with, and it's the last one I bother buying. I haven't had the urge to buy Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Although I'm not as much a fan (if at all) anymore, I still remember my excitement of buying the original Silver Version in Canada, so I was one of the first kids at school to have it.
Silver was definately the higlight of the franchise for me. It's a shame it wasn't remade earlier, when I was still mildly interested in the franchise for me to buy it.
Hmmmm........ I will think about it.
You did NOT just... Oh noez.
"Heart Gold Nutritional Supplement" doesn't sound too bad actually
We are PokeKids!
10 Million strooooooooooong.... and growing!
SO KID, WHAT DO YOU LIKE?
i like pokemon!
DO YOU LIKE POKEMON?
yes, i like pokemon!
I LIKE POKEMON.
do you like pokemon?
LET'S PLAY POKEMON.
lets go play pokemon!
Those are the lyrics to a song my friend downloaded for free off of iTunes once. The caps lock parts were sung by Bill Cosby, and the other parts sung by some little boy. Odd. But true.
