It seems vincent gets his own game again, its a 3rd person shooter starring vincent valentine. Apparently this game tells more of his background, its the most hyped about PS2 game this summer and over FF fans will be sure to pick up a copy of this.
It stars most of the original cast from FF7 the popular psone game back in 97', of course they're minor characters but still you can enjoy this game with vincent and Cat Sith (i know its not spelled right).
Is anyone interested in this game or does anyone plan on buying it?
Note these are actual photo's from the game.**
Kill the monster that is the FF7 spinoffs before it becomes too powerful.
From what I heard, SquareEnix's attempt at an action game here was a total disaster and the game is just awful to play.
Australia apparently doesn't get a release for it. =(
Well then, I guess Australia isn't missing out.

I'm not surprised. Square's not been very good with every other genre other then RPG...which makes me worry for that Mario basketball they're doing all the more.
Actually, Mario Basketball is supposed to be really, really good...
Thats for the DS right, if do It's a must get because the screen shots are very good.

Yes, the game was in sad shape when it was released in Japan a few months ago. However, the company has gone to great lengths to improve the gameplay. Now, supposedly, the game has been tweaked greatly to remove many of the control quirks and annoyances that plagued the original release. Whether that results in a passable entry in the Compilation remains to be seen, but there it is.
Sadly, it would appear that the online feature from the JPN version won't be included in this release (good riddance). To compensate, they're tossing in a slew of optional missions to go on in-game.
I'd give it a rental.
A rental sounds just about right for it release because it only makes sense to rent before buying the actual game, but if I liked it I would buy it .... would you?
From what I've read, the only bad problem with the game to most fans is the gameplay. It's shaky, shoddy, slow, and just barely even sufferable. (S's)
But, there's a silver lining to this cloud. We, the non-Japanese people, are getting the updated, better version of this game. That's right. After years of Japanese hierarchy when it comes to better versions of video games, we finally get a break.
Just some of the changes I read of included:
The ability to shoot while jumping. (What kind of shooter doesn't have that? Silly Japan.)
The entire game system is played about 1.2 times faster. (Not huge, but because some people thought the game was rather slow as was)
Huge fixes to lag time, including torturous loading screens.
But. Yeah. Other than that, I don't care for shooters... I've suffered through gameplay for story before, though.

Edit: I took too long... Bah.
^ Least you backed me up with some detail. 😮

We already go that break when FF7 was released stateside. And lo, soon after an "International" release was prepared for Japan, and the balance of power was restored.
In Japan's favor. 😮
Come to think of it, wasn't it FF7 that started the whole "adding on to the final release with extra stages/characters/enemies/challenges during localization" trend that we here in the West would like to see much more often? Something to be thankful for?
Wot's this? Praise for Numero Siete? Inconceivable!
The trouble is, it's a distinctly average game...
I was lucky enough to go to Germany and meet someone who speeks Japanese playing through the japanese version. He didnt let me have a go, but I did watch him play for a while and we talked about it. He's not an FF fan and he was jusging it just as a shooter.
The problem was, it was an AVERAGE game. distinctly, mediocre. It was okay, a decent game but not outstanding.
The trouble comes when you factor in this is Square Enix, and Final Fantasy. Decent and good enough just aren't. People want outstandng and the original game was anything but.
Hopefully it'll be improved, it has addressed 2 of his 3 main problems with it (or tried tried to at least) so it'll be interesting to see whether it moved from "Okay" to "near miss"

Except the Americans will get the slightly better deal.

Oh you mean the angst right? yeah I agree.
I couldn't help but notice yuffie is holding some sort of PsP gps system like thing... that's weird.

So it has been upgraded from crap to garbage?

Well, that to I guess.

Wait what, why? It has been upgraded from 'garbage' to 'good' in my opinion.
You have to play it to form that opinion. Otherwise it's meritless. Unless of course you're inclined to despise it out of principle. Then it doesn't matter what anyone says.
That's why I read up on it and even though that's not enough I will pick it for rent before actually be willing to buy it.
IGN review gave it a 7 out of 10...
uk.ps2.ign.com/articles/7...990p1.html
And before ANYONE says their ignorant, I can only PLEAD that you don't... that joke is... old
Anyway, as I said, upgraded from slightly crap to slightly good...
But the jury is still out there. Anything other than an instant hit doesn't appear to be good enough.
7 is a decent score. Dirge will be a nice diversion until big daddy XII hits next month. Between this and Xenosaga: Episode III at the end of the month, I'm going to have my hands full anyway.
Heh... Final Fantasy XII, reminds me of Crystal Chronicals, maybe it's becasue sounds and suck, It also reminds me of tales of symphonia and kindom hearts because of all the running around the battle screen and such and jumping around the enimie and such.
The question is should FFXII have been like the old FF's like
X and such?
EDIT: please ignore this as Its not topic related and such.

Oh, God. I hope NO FF games or ANY RPG end up being another FFX. That game was painfully boring.

Why is that even relevant here? Geez, the least you could do is try to stay on topic in your own thread. We have a general all-purpose FF thread over yonder for discussions that involve more than one FF.
I'd like to keep this one pure, since you just had to go and make an "official" one.
Yeah, your right... so getting back on topic. now.
Has anyone heard the soundtrack and is it any good?

I don't know man. I don't trust the same website that gave KHII a 7.6 when they previously gave the first KH around a 9.
Cerberus or FF12?
I've heard mixed opinions of both.
Dirge apparently suits the mood, but except for the 2 songs Gask (sp?) sang its a bit bleak.
FF12 is good, a different experience from the last games. You can TELL that Nubuo didn't compose the music.
The sad thing it, the best tunes are remixes of old songs, and the good new songs aren't the same.
It's a much calmer, more serene score, some people can't adjust to that. But it's still good, just a different style.
And be glad you get XII next month, here in the UK we havent even had Kingdom Hearts 2 yet
Yeah, we're pretty damned spoiled compared to you UKers. The situation probably won't ever improve, either. But... at least you've got your Fifa games.
Anyhoo:

Maybe I'd agree with you if I believed that IGN was some kind of amalgamation of consciousness that reviewed games based on its own singular view of what games should be, instead of composed of several staffers with differing views. I could believe one reviewer giving a game a high score and another giving the sequel a lower one because that's, you know, normal.
EDIT: What's an official thread without an official link to the Official North American website? Don't know how long this has been up. You can catch clips of the English VAs doing their 'thang' in the Characters page. Also, in the FFVII tribute page, if you complete the poll and hangman dealies you can unlock two new (nice) wallpapers in Media.
I hope the lip-synching shown here isn't indicative of the final product and merely a case of english lines being muxed with japanese fmv for the site.
Yup, I feel sorry for you UKers also, seeing on how the games that are released here are released there 3 or 4 mths later.
Okay guys stick to the topic no more going off topic.
As for you new people that havent seen the thread yet please leave your opinions on the game. Thank you.
It's quite hard to form an opinion when you havent played it...
I've seen the Japanese one first hand, but even then so much has changed that I dont want to comment too much on that. if i'd had the controller in my hands I might of but the git playing it wouldn't let me.
Also, update on the soundtrack, finally heard a bit more of it. The argument on whether it's any good or not is escalatng, some reviewers loving it, others hating it.
All I know is that I like the two vocal songs.
Isn't the soundtrack like most pop or rock?
FPSs are not my thing, so I don't think I'll be too interested, but just an observation from the vids I've seen of the game...
Does anybody else get the feeling when watching the videos that it's a Final Fantasy version of MGS? The animation, the way the action sequences were choriographed, everything just seemed to me to remind me of Sons of Liberty or something along those lines >.>
Just my thoughts anyway.

Well Gackt is singing the theme songs so is a mix of both. As for the levels I haven't play the game yet so I can't pass judgement yet.
[Super belated bump]
Just finished this game a couple hours ago. And, despite my rather acute dislike for most shooting games, found it quite enjoyable. I guess I'll write a little review for it, as I'm rather bored. Minor spoilers ahead, but I'll keep the real important stuff at the bottom in black.
I'd like to start off by saying that this game reminds me of Shadow the Hedgehog. Except it's good. (Bear with me) I'll add a list of reasons near the bottom.
Story: 8/10
One year after the events of Advent Children, a mysterious event happens as a mass dissappearance of people occurs in a secret area under the ruins of Midgar. Within days, all the world is thrown into turmoil as an elite special fighting army known as Deepground begins attacking Kalm, and many of the other towns across the globe.
You play as Vincent Valentine, assisting the WRO (World Regenesis Organization) in ridding Gaia from the mutant army. Along the way, you meet some familiar faces that help in your quest.
Overall, the story seems rather well-done, though it lacks in a few lesser departments. While I have no unbearing hate for Yuffie or Cait Sith, they are the most prominent helpers in the game, and a lot of fans of the series found that to be a slap in the face.
Gameplay: 7.5/10
A guy in Game Informer stated that it's something along the lines of one of those old carnival shooting gallery arcade games. He was using the term as an insult, but I rather like the premise. It's simple, but with enough variety to keep you guessing. The areas are the single-most non-linear gaming elements I have ever seen; so much in fact that I was constantly consulting my map in being lost under the continous change in scenery. Nothing looks the same.
Some things in the VII canon were easily translated into the new genre... some weren't. Limit Breaks are items? I'll never get that one.
Sound: 9/10
Steven Jay Blum powers... ACTIVATE! *shot*
In actuality, the voiceovers and whatnot have little wrong with them. More than once I paused the game to listen to the background music, and few of the voices actually had me reeling. One of the lines in the game even had one of those 'oh snap!' moments to it. 😛 There are a few rare instances where the characters say something completely unexpected (I'm gonna save the wuh-rold!), and I hate how, every time someone addresses the guy, they call him Vincent Valentine (slowly... both names...) or Vince.
Graphics: 9/10
The in-game system is decent, certainly nothing to scoff at, though it seems to be rather uninspired at times. The actual cutscenes, however, seem to be working on a slightly toned-down version of Advent Children's graphics system.
Spoilers (Select To Read): -Shadow the Hedgehog similiarities-
-Main characters. Color scheme, both had a sad past with a girl who liked to wear blue and ended up dead. Both were genetic experiments and had knew scientists that went insane. Both have innate powers because of the said experimentations. Slightly playable in past games, but not considered the main character of the series they represent.
-Guns n' Gameplay. Both involve weapons of many kinds, and mostly shooting things to win. Both have missions that involve protecting people, killing people, gathering items, and other similiar stuff.
- In the final level or so of both games, both characters have a similiar fashion of gaining a sudden incredible increase in power to destroy the oh-my-God-huge-monster-guy and SAVE THE WUH-ROLD. Both of these transformations are at least partially brought on by shiny gem-like things.
I could go on, but those things are probably too generic to add any real examples.
...This 'G' guy looks odd.

One of the many things Square attempted to "fix" before the US release, as originally Galian Beast was a major MP hog. Works for me.

They'll get over it, when the inevitable FFVII-2 surfaces.
"I'm so sorry!"
About the voices, only one I found to be incredibly mis-matched. It... just wasn't right. However, mentioning who I speak of would no doubt constitute a spoiler so I'll refrain.
"I'm so sorry?"
*sigh* I wasn't talking about you, Lucrecia.

Get used to him. The way this game and Crisis Core plays up the guy, he may be the next Sephiroth to challenge ZA WARUDO.

Glancing across the internet and magazines, most reviewers who are not IGN seem to dislike Dirge.
Most like FFXII.
Make of that what you will.
But FFXII is supposed to be good.
Well, it is from the same guy who headed Vagrant Story, FFT, and those Orge Battle games.
I did say most reviwers like it.
