A company spokesperson also said that Virtual Console game releases would not be universal - in other words, European gamers will get European versions of the games.
They have actually gone out of their way to make things worse for us. Surely this will apply to games that weren't released in Europe as well.
I'm concerned about that myself, one of most wanted features of the Wii was old games that I couldn't get here, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Sin & Punishment, so news like this is quite off putting. Still, here's hoping they do release them...and translate them....into the other languages of Europe...maybe....
Still, I'm getting the Wii anyway, the new games come first for me, rather than the old, but this is quite disheartenning.
How do you think we Americans feel. No Fire Emblem 1-6 for us.
Or no Terranigma for that matter and that was released in PALand.

You want a list of the games we missed? 😛
It's pretty rare Europe gets anything America doesn't, and sadly, a lot of great titles never made it over here even though they were released in America.
Though we did get Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast!
Europe is like Japan's bargain bin for games. Whenever they got a game they don't think they will do well stateside but want it outside of Japan anyways, they throw it at you guys and go about their business <3
question: when is the release date schedueled for? last i heard it was supposed to be october.
North America: Nov. 19
Japan: Dec 2
Europe/Aussieland: Dec. 12
December 8th for Europe.
OMG... That was funny. Ex - boyfriend FTW!
I will be happy for the rest of the night.. Thank you for posting that, Sonic V2.
Hara-kiri the video game? I'd totally buy that. XD
I can't no one here knew about this. And I thought you were Sega fans! 😛
September 11, 2006 - A recent update by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has revealed a number of SEGA titles coming to Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. The classic games include all of the following:
Ecco the Dolphin
Altered Beast
Toe Jam & Earl
Golden Axe
Columns
Sonic the Hedgehog
Ristar
Readers can verify this information for themselves by going to ESRB's official website and doing a search by platform for Wii games.
The fact that these classic games show up for Wii on ESRB's website is a good sign because publishers have to submit their games for the organization's approval prior to their release -- hence, the ESRB would not just create a list like this out of thin air.
Will these titles and more be debuted at Nintendo's Wii event this Thursday? We'll keep you posted.
...but they're not going to provide much to look at, at least not initially. More along the lines of "Wii is coming!" and a timer that counts down to midnight, Nov. 18 (now officially less than a month away). Though the picture shows a playable Wii stand, I still have no idea when those are being set up - and I WANT to know, because a chance to PLAY the thing would be infinitely better than mere hear-say.

Indeed, however, I want kiosk at my Wal-Mart because my Best Buy, EB, Gamestop, etc. are on opposite ends of town. Also, I heard on the Nsider Forums (which to say to take its creditability should be taken with a grain of salt is an understatement) that Wally World will not have Wii kiosks. Has anybody heard this or is this just a bunch of bull hockey.
Edit: IGN now has a launch guide up giving the specs, etc., and giving a detail description of the buttons, etc. of the Wii itself, Wiimote, Classic Controller, and nunchuck. One of the things I enjoyed seeing is that the power button on the Wiimote does turn off the Wii itself wiimotely.

First wave of Virtual Console games revealed
Nintendo says gamers will have 30 downloadable Wii games to choose from by year's end.
While Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are asking gamers to shell out for the next-generation of gaming experiences, all three companies recognize that there are a number of people willing to spend money on previous generations' gaming experiences as well. Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade has been offering retro titles since the system launched last year, and Sony recently detailed its plans to offer original PlayStation games for download on the PlayStation 3.
Nintendo had already announced the Virtual Console and some of its publishing partners, but today the company laid out the first wave of titles, 30 in all, to be available by the end of the year. The games (listed in full below) will come from Nintendo, Sega, and Hudson.
The company also reiterated the starting price points for the games, noting that NES games start at 500 Wii Points ($5), TurboGrafx-16 games at 600 Wii Points ($6), Super NES and Sega Genesis games at 800 Wii Points ($8), and Nintendo 64 games at 1,000 Wii Points ($10). Wii Points will be available online or at retail in packs of 2,000 with a suggested price of $20.

Sweet, so the points are available in stores. I can't wait for the Wii. 18 days and so many hours left for 'wii' Americans. =P

Gunstar Heroes
From the get-go? Win.
Yea I have to try that one out. That and LoZ. =P
What!?! NO PUNCH-OUT!!??!! >:o
It's all about Ice Hockey, you guys.
MOVE OVA!
I hate Nintendo.
We only get two SNES games and one of them is f*cking Sim City?
N*gga, please.
All you need is Gunstar anyway.
The Japanese list has a LOT more than two SNES games, so I'd imagine the West would follow suit REALLY quickly.
I heard the Europeans also got a good VC launch.
It's ours plus Donkey Kong Country. That's about it.
Where's Chrono Trigger? Where's Star Fox? (and for that matter, Star Fox 64?) Where's EarthBound? Where's Yoshi's Island? Where's Link to the Past? Super Mario RPG? Mario Kart? Final Fantasy VI? Mystical Ninja? Megaman and Bass? Kirby Superstar?
I could go on and on. Nintendo dropped the ball on VC launch titles, especially since they've got to cost next to nothing to port and release. We should have lists about six times as long for every Nintendo system on there.
What about licensing issues? Ever stop to think about that? Granted this doesn't explain the lack of Nintendo titles, but then, consider this - you don't want all your Aces to be played at the same time. Leave a little time span between them, make it one big hit after another after another. That would keep interest in the Virtual Console rather high for a longer period of time.
And Link to the Past IS in the line-up - in Japan.
I was at my local 7-11 just yesterday, when I noticed they're about to start a new promotion. If you buy a "strawberwii-bannana" Slurpee, (they didn't have that flavor when I was there) you get a code you can enter online for a chance to win a Wii. Unfortunatley this was the one time I didn't have my camera-phone with me, so no pictures of the poster. The official Slurpee website confirms what I'm saying though, but be warned. Clicking the link below will force you to see and hear a talking Slurpee straw that 7-11's marketing department thinks is cool. So if you don't want to hear a purple straw saying "Check out my cold crib dog!", do not click the link below.
On an unrelated note, why does the language filter change the intentional misspelling of "dog" to "I love you"? Is this anything like the Chuck N./Sean C. thing?
Something like that, yeah =)
There's nothing really to complain about. It's just a launch, all of the grade-A games will be released in due time. They're supposedly going to add 10 new additions to the roster every month. And SH is right, it'll keep interest in the VC. If every game was released at once, everyone would go into a game buying frenzy, and then that'll be about it. Customers would be overflowed with choices. That may sound good to you, but I like this system. It gives you something to look forward to. Just wondering "oh man, I wonder what the new games will beee" is the anticipation that the VC needs. It adds more zest to the Wii cake. Yes, Wii cake.
And Nintendo probably wants more emphasis on the Wii itself than the VC. People will focus more on the Wii games if they didn't have 100 games from older consoles to choose from.
But I agree that the NES selection at launch is... less than stellar. The only ones that are really worth the $5/500 points is Ice Hockey and Zelda, maybe Wario's Woods and Tennis (I dunno, I have some sort of fascination with Tennis >_>) and possibly Solomon's Key. Baseball and Urban Champion are stinkers. They may be good to waste about five minutes of your time before you get bored with them. Not very worth it.
I think some of the games would have more worth if they were packaged in twos. Like Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Jr. (there was a "Donkey Kong Classics" game for NES that had both games on one cart) or Baseball & Soccer.
There's nothing really else to say about the rest of the games that hasn't been said. Genesis line-up is solid. SNES line-up is just kinda like "Hi there." The two games I'll probably pick up are Gunstar Heroes and Super Mario 64, since I've never had a chance to play them.
AHHHH! I just looked up Altered Beast...and I beleive this is the game. My friend and I played it at his grandmother's like 12 years ago. I loved this game. *is getting it*
The ESRB has release a new list of ratings for some 'new' games. This is the list of games that Nintendo SHOULD have launched with Wii. Mario RPG, StarFox 64, AND Kirby SuperStar YES! And Duck Hunt... Hells yeah!

As it stood, the following potential 2007 VC games we hit on were as follows:
* Duck Hunt (E for Everyone)
* Hogan's Alley (E for Everyone)
* Kid Icarus (E for Everyone)
* Kirby's Adventure (E for Everyone)
* Pilot Wings (E for Everyone)
* Pro Wrestling (E for Everyone)
* Punch-Out (E for Everyone)
* Wild Gunman (E for Everyone)New to the list, however, is a slightly more diverse catalog of games:
* Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
* Kirby's Super Star (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
* Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo 64; rated E for Everyone)
* Starfox 64 (Nintendo 64; rated E for Everyone)
* Super Metroid (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
* Kirby's Dream Land 3 (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
* The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64; rated E for Everyone)

* Dr. Mario (NES; rated E for Everyone)
* Mario Brothers (NES; rated E for Everyone)

If the UK doesn't get SMRPG, people are going to get hurt.
LOL!

So the old man still has his uses... Nintendo believes in recycling yup.
I win =)
OH HAMBURGERS! 16 hours and 10 minutes and counting
The people at GameFaqs are screaming about Gamespot's Twilight Princess score. 😛
F!!!!! I'm not getting one. I'm quitting this &^*( job of mine. F!!!!!! ^&^%$^$##@&(*)(*)*(&^^%$#@$!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I was crazy enough to camp out and get one. Worked out pretty well; cold as heck, though.
Anyway, it's pretty good, but I'm not convinced I placed the sensor bar in a good position. Since its current position is hardly permanent, I'm not too confident in using the sticky adhesives on the TV's upper rim (it's a flat screen, you can't really rest the thing on top of it)... I may have to, though.
Anyway, scored Zelda and Monkey Ball. Zelda's off to a fair start, but kinda loses brownie points for its hella-confusing mandatory fishing session, with practically no good explanation as to how it works. Had to go onto GameFAQs to get anything that remotely gave me a good idea as to the mechanics of it all. Also, it's gonna take a while to get used to actually SWINGING the sword instead of just tapping a button... Despite people saying things to the contrary, it is a tad tiring. Maybe that's just because I've been camping outside a Target all night in the cold, and therefore haven't gotten terribly good sleep, I dunno. It's Zelda, though; I'd find it hard for it to NOT be a good game overall. I just need to leave Ordon Village - I, as of yet, haven't.
If I can't score Wii + Zelda this weekend. Sparky will beat me. Have you gotten the crap kick out of you by a pissed off nine year old? It's not fun.
~Rico
Heh I ended up getting one. Camped out at Bestbuy. Madden is weird. Fun but different. I'm mad though, my wi-fi is't working properly. I can't access the VC. =/
*slits wrists cause he didn't get a Wii*
2k7=Wii for Will
Got my Wii (thanks to the allmighty preorder), and I've been playing it all day long (for the most part, I had to go with my friend (who had to camp out at Walmart for his) so he could pick up his copy of Twilight Princess and play the Excite Truck demo. =/ )
At first, it was a huge pain in the ass. I booted it up and it got to the language screen. Couldn't do anything. I pressed everything on the Wiimote, and nothing. I waved it around, nothing. So I rebooted it. Still nothing. Crap. Reboot, try again. I did manage to get a cursor that time! However, I didn't like the sensitivity and the fact that it can go offscreen. Finally, time to set it up and play.
After putting the sensor bar on a better location (from the bottom of the TV to the top), network setup (WEP keys, how I despise thee right now...), updates (...zzzzz...), and setting adjustment, I finally start to grow into the thing, and I haven't even played anything yet.
I finally put in Wii Sports and played some bowling and golf. Aside from my tendency to overpower my swings in golf, I had a blast with it.
Then, it was time for some Zelda. Holy freaking crap, this game is amazing and I'm only 3-4 hours into it. My only complaint, as SH mentioned, is that they don't tell you how to fish (aside from what they tell you in the instruction manual, but I'm the type to jump straight into the game) and the fact that you had to do it in order to get anywhere, so I was pretty frustrated until I went on to the Gamefaqs board and found a post on how to do it. I got used to swinging the Wiimote for the sword attack almost immediately, though I still tend to think the A button is for attacking while in wolf form. >.> Aiming projectile weapons by pointing at the screen is also a huge plus in my book.
While I do have Red Steel, I'm going to reserve my judgement on that, since I've only got as far as removing the shrinkwrap from the case.
Aside from the beginning moments, I'm having a great time with the Wii so far. It's starting to look like the first time in a long time that I'm going to pull a true all-nighter. God, I wish I bought something to help keep me awake. >.>
Sorry, my Wii-related all nighter was last night. If I'm doing an all-nighter tonight, it'll be to catch up on all the homework I need to work on desperately.
...why the hell am I not working on it, even though I'm in a completely different city from my Wii?
Even though I'm not getting a Wii until a blue one or Secret Ring comes out, or the appeal of it gets too strong, I went to Wal-Mart to pay on my 360 in layway, and I looked to see if they had the Wii. The place where the Wii should have been was full of Gamecubes; so, I say they haven't gotten them in yet. I also went to my Game Rhino, and they had a sign that said they were sold outta both Wiis and PS3s, which was not surprising, though they did have games and Wiimotes left.
So you're getting a 360, dude? For the new Sonic surely. lol Sucker. =P Anywho, I got my VC up and running and I got LoZ. I was hoping to see Gunstar Heroes, though. Still I love it. Looking to be a great system. =)
VC dissapoints me... I've already beaten Mario64 on my DS... I need some N64 multiplayers... Come on SSB and MK64...
Question to those who have the wii and know about the sensor bar: Seeing as I know nothing about how the sensor bar works or connects, is there any real reason that, with an adapter such as the adaptec gamebridge, I would be unable to play Wii on my laptop?
