The Nintendo Hawaii! :]

Remember that rumour that the Revolution would be called "Go"? They could make that the name of their online service: hence "Wii Go", which sort-of has the same vague connotations as "Live". All about being active, and stuff.

Or maybe it's related to their use of double-entendres for the adverts to advertise the DS (in the UK, anyway): "Do you want to touch it?" Maybe they intended all these daft jokes that people are making to be an extension of that, as a bizarre form of viral marketing and raising brand awareness...

...Nahh.

(Reads all the homosexual jokes and infantile potty jokes and negetive reaction all across the net.)

Nintendo has got to be out of thier LIVING MINDS!

Do they really think that they will be able to sell a console that's only less more powerful than Xbox 1, has a weird controller that may fail, and games built only for the controller and that have a complete lack of ingenuity?

With a name like "Wii" which sounds lame, infantile, childish, and sounds like a gay pun, this console is sure to fail, it's going to be even harder for Nintendo to sell "Wii" then it is for them to sell Gamecube which I think is a much better name. I'm betting Wii is gonna fail miserably and Nintendo will throw in the towel and go 3rd party and stick with handhelds and maybe SEGA will return to the home console market.

Who thinks that the name "Wii" is going to cacth on? I know I don't. Why? Because people are going to spend majority of the time mispronoucing it. Way to go Nintendo! Great idea, changing the code name to something cool and something interesting like "Revolution" "On" and "Go" to something completely stupid and inane like "Wii" pronouced "We" instead of "Why" you just screwed up big time, now I'm definetly not buying your new console and that alot of people won't because they won't be able to pronouce it right.

Good going! Now you totally screwed up your chances of

coming up with a good marketing campaign.

Sure names like Playstation,Dreamcast and Xbox caught on, Why? Because they had great games and the games had ingenuity and wern't made for only one purpose.

The new name is like those old Quizno's Subs commercials; weird and filled with the 'WHAT THE?' factor. So much so you can't forget it.

Shakes head at Pat.

Once people have got past the Urine and Penis (havent seen any gay ones >_>) jokes (which must be Nintendo released the new name before E3) Its actually a unique little name.

You'll be able to pronounce it. Its "w-ee" the worst that can happen is that you say "w-eye".

I cant understand you sometimes really. You say you want innovation in gaming. Nintendo produce a new way of playing games and you've slagged it off. The controller might not be perfect heck it might be really bad. But at least give it a freaking go.

I am not a Nintendo fanboy. I was once like you drinking the Sega coolee. But then Dreamcast passed on to the other side. Yes, those Pace set top boxes.

Look lets put it like this:
Sega are half owned by Sammy (Who I believe own SNK). A company making its millions in Pachinko and arcade machines.
According to here:System 16 Sega have made an arcade board based on Playstation 2 (Naomi 2) Xbox (Chihiro) and Gamecube (Triforce).
Sega have confirmed One game for Wii.
Sega have also confirmed Lindberg Developed game Virtua Tennis 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

I mean if Sega are going to turn Lindberg into a Next Gen system. They aren't doing it in a "LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS PENIS" way. They aren't even doing it in a Phantom PC superconsole (Plz liek sponsor us)thing way. Gee they are doing it in a "Hey lets develop some of our best known titles for the rival consoles and then lets release a games console". THEY ARE NINJAS if thats going to happen. I am going to be poisoned on the toilet now thanks Pat. By SEGA NINJAS. At least that will be cool way to go. Shinobi or Nightshade.

THANK YOU

*yawn* Please, it not like you had any support for Nintendo's next gen system in the first place.:cuckoo

P.S. Most gaming consoles don't really have great nems in the first place. "Playstation" sounds like it should be on a Fisher Price toy and I remember people complaining about about the "Dreamcast" name.

Say WHA? You were planning on buying one before this? Oh... My apologies Pat, I totally had you labeled as a anti-Nintendo Nazi... Forgive me...

Oh, I have to agree with Rico... As Tim from CAD said

"Like the name or not, every single tech related webpage, blog, or forum was talking about the Wii yesterday. You can't buy that kind of media exposure. And Nintendo got it for free yesterday. The little poem they wrote explaining the meaning of Wii might have been a bit cheesy, but A++ in Business 101 for Nintendo."

I'm not a fan of the name, but Now it is known...Most everyone has heard of it...Congrats Nintendo, for once again not being afraid to defy the norm...

You argue that the Revolution/'Wii' will out and out suck, and that the name Wii will be universally laughed at.

The latter may be true, but I'd rather pay full price for a new system which has at LEAST given me a new dimension in control rather than play the same old Crap over and over again...Oo;

Sega's Console days are DEAD - ACCEPT it, move on, history teaches us whinging never changes reality. Oo

The DS had the whole new control idea of the touchscreen, and it works PERFECTLY.
WHY do you even assume the new console isn't being tested, researched, and tweaked to the same level of completion the same way?

The DS didn't fail because it works - Nintendo's Wii, as bizarre as the name is, will no doubt be brought out WHEN they know it to be 100% ready and FOOL proof.

Don't be so mind-numbingly thick - get ya head OUT of that big ol' ass and realise that the world doesn't stop because you ask it to.

Put up, Shut up, and Leave it alone - Find something else to moan about, because ALL of your so-called arguments in this and other discussions seema complete waste of Time to bother with most of the time.

....Ahem, I don't like to go to such lengths to put my point across, but I believe we all should at least put a level of faith into the Big N. Oo

They won't be going third party any time soon, either - so that's another belief out the window.
D'ya know that they're still making ASSloads of MONEY? Oo Yeah, it's true.

Anyhow, I'm done.

**applauds Mobius Springheart** And everyone else who's been arguing this over and over and over and over...... but MS just happened to be the last poster. :3

All I have to say is "wii" are very much enjoying the name over here. It's silly, but I think once everyone gets over the "HAHAHA What a dumb, wrong-sounding name!" phase, it'll seem all right.

Besides, you wouldn't buy the console for the name, right? Who cares what it's called, just enjoy the games, I say 😀

All I have to say if you are one of those people who won't buy the Wii, not because of the games/controller doesn't interest you, but because of the name, then you are not part of the audience Nintendo is aiming for this machine.

Wii is a very silly name, and I think I just need time to get used to the idea. I also think that I won't be buying it immediately because I'll be too busy paying for things like my education.

But as far as I'm concerned, the only console that's worth shelling out the money for is the Wii. If all three next-gens were priced the same (that's a laugh), then I would think the Wii would still be the obvious choice as the first one to get simply because there's more you can do with is and it's not just an upgraded version of a previous console.

Wow, so many bad Wii puns has made Nintendo sexy...

Eh, I don't think it's brilliant, but it has been entertaining on occasion. I'd rather read it than PA personally, but then I'm one of the seemingly rare few who don't find PA even a wii bit entertaining, so that isn't really saying much. I have definitely noticed the extreme Xbox fanaticism though.

hmm, the wii controller looks a bit similar to this dc prototype pad that can be seen this site here near the bottom of the page

I find that a bit less weird than the fact that one of the prototypes (very bottom picture, upper right corner) Is a flat brown disc with no surface detail or buttons at all.

So either it's a button-less controller or it has a flip-up lid, either of which make me shudder at what wii could have had for the Dreamcast.

I was noticing more the one that looks EXACTLY like a Japanese NiGHTS pad, but with a VMU slot. Seriously, right down to the button colors and everything...

Actually, I wouldn't have minded that pad, although I think the DC's stick is better than that pad's... er, pad/nub thing.

Nintendo.

I love you.

I will bear your children.

This is seriously one of the best bits of news I've heard for ages. One of the guys at the EB where I work came up to me yesterday and said, "So, I'm guessing you've heard the new Revolution name?"

Me, not having used the net all weekend because I was spending time with my girlfriend, honestly reply, "No."

"Oh! Well, it's called the wee."

"WEE?!"

"No no. Wii. W. I. I. Like we, together sort of thing."

After the initial shock, giggles and wii-wii jokes to myself, the name has grown on me, and I love it. Nintendo are doing something more to truly try and move away from the currently fast stagnating video game market. Sure, I look forward to your standard Halo 3s, Devil May Cry 4s and all the other sequals, but what Nintendo are doing has me excited enough to wii myself.

That's an early mockup. Usually during the pre-prototype stages of a console controller they'll figure out the general shape of it with plasticine or clay.

mobius why don't you do the same?

As for me yeah,I've already gotten over the lame ass name they've giving it. But do you really think that going to be easy selling Wii to people who don't know what it is? Oh, I forgot your a bunch of fanboys you think Nintendo can sell anything and you think that your beloved company makes more money than Mircosoft and Sony which has got to be one of the dumbest most inacurrate fanboy rants in the world.

When will you ever get over that fact that Nintendo is only good for making handhelds for now, grow up everybody!

Take a reality check and stop and think how hard is it for Nintendo to sell this console. What strong points are going to sell this thing to non fanboys and hardcore gamers? All the games are only made for one purpose only: TO WORK WITH THE CONTROLLER AND NOTHING ELSE!

And oh yeah, Wii is not a Japanese word. It's not even a word. Calling me a liar? Take it from someone who knows and stuJapanese. The proper Japanese word for "good" is "ii"(E) which also serves as a vowel, Last I looked in my Japanese dic there's no such thing as a "We" sounding vowel in the Japanese language.

As for SEGA, one game. WOW ONE GAME! that isn't even a well known license for them, My believe is that SEGA will return despite everyone's hatred and constant bashing, yeah Virtua Tennis 3 sounds exicting but you may never know SEGA could still return.

I have doubts about Wii and continue to, Nintendo has to prove that the console is beyond its utter ridiculiousness and that there will be plenty to do besides the controller, don't give me a useless and irrelvant fanboy rant about how Nintendo will rule the world, Wait and see if it does well or bombs badly.

I'm done now.

And stop flaming me, I didn't flame you.

No.

Then again, Playstation, Xbox, Dreamcast, and Gamecube weren't words until - guess what? - they were made for the consoles. Since Nintendo's new system is now called 'Wii', guess what? Wii is now a word, used only to name Nintendo's next console.

Aside from that, the rest of your post is a retread of everything else you've said in the past few months. Therefore, I shall now start ignoring you.

Warning for flaming (because utter hypocrisy isn't a warnable offense).

Calling people moronic fanboys and making lies up about them qualifies as flaming, Pat, regardless of what you say it is. Besides, you sound more like a fanboy with your constant "everyone but Sega is doing awful" comments.

Everyone else is privy to the same consequence if they decide to respond to Pat, too, so just ignore him. This is probably too drastic, but seriously, I can't be the only one to be tired of this.

SH you are being a hypicrite! I haVE NOT ONCE CALLED ANYONE A MORON!

You just saw everyone else flame me, I've haven't called anybody anything.

A fanboy is a fanboy. Regaurdless, it's another way of calling somebody "bias" it's not an insult.

Why do I like SEGA? Because everytime I heard something about them it's always a bash, nothing but bad comes from people when they talk about SEGA, if people forgave them trusted in them then maybe I wouldn't sound like a fanboy!

Your saying I only like SEGA? Why do I own in Xbox then? Why do I think that Xbox 360 will still succeed then?

Despite it's price tag the 360 will still sell in the U.S. once it's price tag is dropped to $299, the Xbox one had the exact same thing happen to it, it had a low library and a hefty budget and for most of 2002 the Gamecube outsold it. But when it's price was cut and when it launched Xbox live it outsold the GC.

Another thing, I ask is that you don't take this personal but why don't you just admit that Nintendo's decision to change Revolution's name to instead of "On" or "Go" two Japanese characters into something totally inane and pointless and then lied and said that it's a Japanese word when it's not even a word was a very BAD marketing decision.

Sure it was a totally ill-mattered marketing decision, but I AM NOT SAYING IT WILL FAIL! Nobody knows how it will do,the controller will indeed make or break the console and that's final.

Nintendo will soon stop making home consoles mark my words, you think that they have alot of money to stay around? No they don't, they've loss bllions on Nintendo 64 and Gamecube, the only reason why the GC was able to survive despite poor sales in the U.S. and Japan is because of it's price tag.
