Because were unofficial means that we are cooler. Am I right?

Anyways basically, you (The forum viewer) can post up information on fighting games you like the look of without the worry of making a brand new topic to clog
up the board, Ain't it great?

The only games on topic here will be:

2D Fighting Games

3D Fighting Games

Wrestling Games

Boxing Games

Roaming Beat 'em ups

Tomonobu Itagaki Perve-a-thons

I will start with two games coming out soonish firstly:

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Coming out October/November.

Coming out for: PAL Regions: PS2 (Possibly Wii)

US/Canada etc: PS2, Xbox, Wii. PS2 also gets the kollectors edition which has Character profiles and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. (US Only)

Basically, A while ago Ed Boon stated that every single character that threw a punch in a fighting (Special Forces = Fail) game is going to be in this game.
Now unfortuently this has lead to some limitations. Everyone who was in Deadly Alliance and Deception will not have new costumes. With the exception of Reptile
because everyone started swearing at Midway because he wasn't in his ninja form, so his MK: Shaolin Monks gear has been given a brush up, Another exception
is Blaze because he is now the main boss of the game. Noob Saibot and Smoke have been split up (They were kind of a tag team in Deception). So the "brand
new" characters are: (Goro and Shao Kahn were in the GC and PSP ports of Deception)

Fujin (Earthrealm Wind God)

Sheeva (Shokan)

Jarek (Black Dragon Lackey)

Reiko (Shao Kahn's Head General and Stalker)

Sareena (One of Quan Chi's Assassins, the original Sub Zero saved)

Sektor (The leader of the Tekunin. You will like his teleport punch)

Rain (Purple Ninja. Turns out Ed Boon likes Wham!)

Stryker (Policeman)

Motaro (Centaur)

Meat (A zombie like thing)

Chameleon (Male Palette swapping ninja)

Kintaro (Tiger Shokan)

Taven (Hero of Konquest)

Deagon (Brother of Hero of Konquest)

Contraversies:

Motaro: Motaro has gone from having four legs to two legs for technical reasons. There will be a storyline explanation.

Khameleon: Khameleon isn't in. She was the N64 MK: Trilogy exclusive character. To make up for her general crapiness she was given a snippet of a story
basically stating that Reptile was the last male of the saurian race, Khameleon was the last female of the saurian race so a Adam and Eve scenerio could
possibly take place.

Gameplay:

If you remember from Deadly Alliance and Deception, everyone had three fighting styles. Well because there is 62 characters that has had to be trimmed to 2
Fighting Styles. One Armed and One Unarmed mostly. There might be some characters with two unarmed or two armed fighting styles. The Exceptions are: Moloch,
Blaze, Motaro and Onaga because of their size they only have the one fighting style.

First new feature is Aerial Kombat. This was ispired by the stupidly fun Shaolin Monks. Basically you can kick your opponent into the air and then you can do
an air combo.

Combo Breakers have been expanded upon by Parries. I dont think I have seen them in action though. But they are in there.

Kreate a Fatality:

Its a combo based system now. You might start of with a kick to the gut then, eyeball poke, rib rip, impalement and then to finish them knocking their head of
with their own arm. Beautiful. It can go up to 10/11 movements. None of the default characters are going to have their own fatalitys but they might get unique
fatality enders.

One reason why Deadly Alliance and Deception are so hated by Teh Hardcor3 Fighting game fans is because of the amount of infinites that can be pulled off by
some characters. It was believed that "Wake up moves" could limit these a lot. (Basically Wake Up Moves are the moves up can do to stop people from
attacking you while on the ground. Eg Rollong back or forward, up of down, Low kick etc.) Well it seems that they are in. Low kicks and rolling were seen in
gamplay videos from the Leizpeig Games Convention build of the game. If they hadn't been implented the character would just automatically get up like in
DA/D.

The Vault:

The Vault replaces the Krypt. There is only one kind of koin now and everything can be unlocked by playing the game for a long time. You don't have to play
Konquest mode or Motor Kombat (Later) to unlock anything. It all can be done in the basic aracde game.

Motor Kombat:

Well, Its Mario Kart with Mortal Kombat Characters. It replaces Kombat Chess and Puzzle Kombat from Deception. Whether you think its a good this depends on if
you like Mario Kart with Mortal Kombat Characters. Its a nice bonus game.

Konquest Mode:

Well, This is the story of Taven and his brother Daegon who are on a quest for their father who is God to prove their Demi Godness. Okay the story is crap, but
it plays a bit like Shaolin Monks. You fight multiple enemies on the screen. You will meet other characters in Konquest. It seems to be a mix of the old
Konquest Mode in Deception and Shaolin Monks. You will talk and do missions for some people, you will be able to throw other people on to spikes and use them
as a platform. There also seems to be some minor characters making cameos in the game (Kia and Jaatakka from MK Mythologies: Sub Zero appear).

Kreate a Kombatant:

You will be able to create your own character with your own movelists. Yes, you will be able to create a Female Butchered 2 Legged Centaur, with Tarkatan
teeth. You sick freak. You wont be able to create Shokans for some reason. The four arm thing probably.

Story: Well, Ed Boon said that this will tie up a lot of loose ends for MK so they can start fresh for MK8 with a new roster of characters. Basically The Final
Time is coming and you must guide your chosen character to Blaze's Pyramid to face him and defeat him in Mortal Kombat. When you win you will know the
character's destiny. A rumour going around is that when you see all 62 character's endings there will be a final movie ending and it will be epic.

Thats it I think. It will be online like Deception was. The Wii version might make use of the controller. For more information check here:

The Official MK Armageddon Homepage And click on the dragon's eye when you put your real age in
(18+ of course)

Also: The Official MK: Armageddon Forums Look out for new threads by a
chap called Cinder. He works for Midway and normally releases new pictures, movies, art and even but of music.

Also: Mortal Kombat Online This link will allow you to catch up on old bits of art, music and
character vs pictures.

Virtua Fighter 5.

Coming out for PS3 Launch. (I think)

Basically the new game in the series. The deepest fighting game in the world gets a spit and polish and two new characters.

Eileen who uses Monkey Kung Fu and El Blaze who uses Lucha Libre and looks nothing like Rey Mysterio.

I'm quite tired. But basically it looks gorgeous and has every single VF character except Taka Arashi and Siba.

Preview Here: Warning: Language, Rudeness and General
Naughtyness here.

Being an MK fan since the first game, I'm really looking forward to playing Amargedon, if only for the Kreate a Fighter mode. That said, SSBB is undeniably my most wanted fighter, and MF tourneys would be awesome!

Mortal Kombat Opening Video Online @ IGN

This video is awesome. There are bits that will make you laugh. Bits that will make you fangirl scream. Its definatly worth a download if you have Broadband.

I've never really like the Super Smash series. Its fun for a while with friends but on your own its a bit meh.

OH MY GOD!!

That intro movie has got me pumped for MK:A! I've ignored the series since UMK3, but I think I'm gonna be getting me some MK loving baby. Now I just gotta learn who the heck all these new people are... Ah. It doesn't matter. My dear, sweet Cyrax and I have some butt kicking to attend to.

The concept is nothing new in the fighting genre: In the Marvel vs Capcom series, the former is known as the Air Combo (Aerial Rave in Japan) and the latter is somewhat famous in the Street Fighter III series.

I'm not saying it's not fun (gotta love air combos) but it's something I have not seen before.

I'll keep an eye on this one.

Aerial combat was also in Mortal Kombat 2, a good few years before MVC.

And more fighters should use parrying IMO.

Does anyone know anything about unlocking characters in Guardian Heroes? Just wondering. I'm guessing all I have to do is ease myself off Easy, although not having the benefit of 99 continues is prolly gonna be harsh - those last levels are damned hard to NOT die in.

I consider it eligible in this topic since the OP specified "Roaming Beat 'em ups", which this more or less is, and it has a somewhat more standard fighting mode which just happens to support up to six players, be they human or CPU. So there, now talk please.

GameFAQs doesn't say crap; I checked there first, several times. Why else would I ask something that would otherwise obviously be covered?

Let's put it this way: there are, like, 45 characters to play as and several stages to choose from, and you only start out with five of the first, one of the latter. GameFAQs only tells me how to unlock some of the ultra powerful characters, and doesn't mention anything in the way of stages. Nowhere does. Hence, I ask.

I'm much more keen on waiting on news about the next Street Fighter installment, but right now Capcom seems tied up in rehashes as per usual as well as RE5.

Think about it... Street Fighter 4. Featuring every Street Fighter character... ever.

I haven't played a Mortal Kombat game since MKTrilogy. It was a bit of a trip down memory lane to see a lot of familar faces in that video. God, if I knew they turned Lui Kang into a zombie I would've played the newer games sooner. I always hated Lui Kang. XD

As for other fighting agmes, I'm only looking forward to Virtual Fighter 5. Although the screenshots I've seen don't look that much better than VF4:EO, but still... it's Virtual Fighter! They get better with every new installment. Although I still can't remember a single move for any character, yet I can still remember a lot of old Street Fighter and MK moves even though I haven't played them since I was a kid. :annoyed

Lui Kang was killed in MK: Deadly Alliance in the opening cinematic by Shang Tsung with a little help from Quan Chi. He was brought back as a zombie in MK: Deception.

Guardian Heroes help

Yeah I asked people on GameFAQs.

Considering there most recent attmpt at a 2D Fighting game that wasn't a port was Capcom Fighting Jam, I'd say Street Fighter should be left untouched until Sammy or SNK buy the rights one day.

What Benji said I want a new installment of SF. Actually I want Marvel Super Heroes vs. SF for Saturn and MvC2 for Dreamcast. I wouldn't mind having Rival Schools either, but i'd have to import that. =/ My passion is in 2D fighters. I loved the old MKs and MK4 wasn't too bad either. I just may get this new MK after I do some research.

Actually SNK isn't too bad. They did Fatal Fury correct? They game owns. And KoF(which I've yet to play believe it or not) looks great. If Capcom and SNK could only come up with something together. Oh yea...I almost forgot, i'm getting MK:A. It looks insane. I must get it. It's supposed to be out by March so i'm happy. =)

They're called "Capcom Vs. SNK", "Capcom Vs. SNK 2", and "SNK Vs. Capcom" (yes, it's a different game). Heck, the last of those three even has Zero in it (in his Mega Man Zero outfit, though).

Trust me, the last great Fighter Capcom made was in the Dreamcast days, the last great Street Fighter was Street Fighter 3 in 97 or 98...since then, they've been reusing sprites and making compilations for fanservice and cheap sales. SNK have made a decent (if pretty flawed and nonthreatenning to its SEGA and Namco rivals) attempt at bringing KoF into 3D, and are still keeping 2D fighters alive, which are pretty fun once you get used to them. Plus they've been Capcom's rivals since 1992 in the Fighting biz, they know it better than Capcom do currently, since the team behind their fighters moved on.

Wow SH you're correct. XD How did I not remember that. CvSNK2 is one of my faves ever. Anywho, if they came out with a CvSNK3 with some new way of fighting or something i'd be pretty happy. But yes I really wanted to play SNK vs. Capcom, it has Violent Ken. =)

Even with careful writing (yeah right), it's impossible: M. Bison (Vega, the dictator) "killed" Rose at the end of the Alpha series (it's more of a body possession/union of souls); Akuma (Gouki) killed M.Bison at the end of Street Fighter 2. However, I'd like to see what became of the dolls (other than Cammy, my precious, of course) and how they would conflict with the mutants of the G-Project.

Marvel Super Heroes vs SF was released for the Saturn in 1997. You might have to look on Ebay to get it. Ditto for Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Rival Schools on the Dreamcast.

MUGEN's been around for years. It's a fighting game engine you can completely customize yourself. Mortal Kombat Vs. Street Fighter Vs. Maver Super Heroes Vs. The Simpsons playing to the beats of just one drum*... it's all possible. And probably already exists.

It's come a long way from the early days when it was mainly used for online matches with preset Alpha characters.

Its quite a nice little preveiw actually. It tells you all about all the additions they have made to this game over MK: Deception. (wake up moves, parries) There are no storyline spoilers except for one that was in Deception: Classic Sub Zero is Noob Saibot. :O

Also its out in Americaland now. So yeah.

Well well, any of you guys pick up MK:A. I want to get it when it comes out for Wii. I've recently purchased UMK3 for my Saturn and I love it. Scorpion is my man. These darn fatalities are making me mad though. Are you supposed to hold block when inputting the forward forward, down, up, etc stuff? But MK:! is going to rock. I'll probably end up getting Deception sometime soon as well. =)

I got Armageddon. Twice... Xbox Version wasn't region free. Like a few people said it was. Bastards.

Its quite fun. I found it strangely addicting. Especially the combo based Kreate a Fatality. The wake up game helps with the balancing. Blaze, Moloch and Onaga are overpowered though.

Konquest isn't as good as Shaolin Monks but for an extra its okay. Reasonable.

Kreate a Fighter is crap though. If only for the fact 3/4s of it is locked. 🙁 And online people know how to get all the best, unfair moves for their characters.

I didn't like Motor Kombat really. But opinion is varied on it. Some people say its crap, some think its the best thing since Mario in a Kart.

Bios for everyone are slowly coming out. Fujin's bio reveals who resurrected Liu Kang.
------

As for the fatalities in UMK3 are you keeping to the distance the fatality specifies. Some only work when they are far away. The UMK3 section in the MK:A guide doesn't mention anything about holding block while inputting. I've never been able to do a real fatality in the 2D games.
------

So Tekken 6 might be on the 360. Typical Namco following Sega... 😛

I had MK:A on release, and I think it's fun, nice to play as Frost again, but I still love Sub Zero. Haven't been playing it much as it feels very watered down due to the removal of the second unarmed styles, though understandable, but most combos are now three hit, which is the maximum for some characters. Konquest is cool, but like Deception, I don't like playing as the main character, it would have been a nice way to create a character or flesh out another character's backstory. It does make me wonder about how the next game will turn out, I'm sure Sub Zero and Scorpion will return, but guess we'll have to wait and see.

I also got UMK3, though on my 360, I love it to bits, again, Sub Zero is my choice, unmasked version (one of my favourite VG characters in fact). Haven't performed any fatalities, but I do like playing online, even if I do get my ass handed to me. 😛

As for Tekken 6...the more games that come to 360 the better, though unless Lair (which is unlikely due to the controls), White Knight, Heavenly Sword and FFXIII jump too then there's still something I want a PS3 for. (MGS4 would also be included, but with it also being rumoured to jump I'll hold on for now...DMC4 has actually been quite disappointing for me tbh...).

Just need to hear from Soul Calibur now...

Heh, so MK:A is worth buying. I figured it was, the game looks great IMO. Not to mention ever since I heard of MK:A in this topic way back, i've been in a true MK mood. Alright now seriously...if Tekken comes to the 360 PS3 might as well forget it. Actually no...if MGS4 comes to 360, Sony will have to withdraw from this generation of gaming. =P But really what is up with all of the nonexclusive titles and whatnot. Maybe all of the developers and publishers got together and planned to sabotage Sony this time around. =) *mauled*

I'll allow you to finish your statement. :)

Edit: Well, well this looks pretty cool. It's a video showing just some of the fighting techniques using the Wii Controller. MK:A! I like that you can use the GC or Classic Controller[My preferred method] if you shoose. Although when I get this I will definetly try to get a hang of the Wii method. I hope it's online too, considering it was speculated to be. My guess is it won't be though. =/ Can't wait for this anyway. =)

Ed Boon said in an interview that it won't be as Nintendo hasn't really started any online gaming service in the West besides the VC and Channels stuff, but as soon as they do they intend to take full advantage of it, not sure if that means the next gen MK will have a Wii version or if the Wii will get it's own MK though.

MK: Armageddon Wii wont be online. But you do get Khameleon with the Wii version. (not such a bad thing because the Created fighters are too powerful/broken)

They did an interview saying they weren't going to do a DS MK game because they were concerned with the whole DS = Kids thing and then a week later, "We are doing a DS MK game." Good Old Midway.

Also MK8 will be using the Unreal 3 Engine. Also Ed Boon said that Gears of War is the perfect style for the new MK. :(

Hmm...I don't understand Ninty's online schick. Why haven't they actually started on it yet? The DS was like this too, go a year without online then it comes out. =P Anywho, considering SSB:B will be online enabled and it's tentative release in like early June, does this mean we may have online options by summer? I hope so.

But to try and keep the topic alive, does anyone else besides me believe certain companies[Capcom, Namco, etc] have specific and unique difficulties in their fighters. Like Capcom for instance, I honestly believe there's some kind of cheat enabled in their 2D fighters[Capcom vs. SNK series, Marvel vs, Capcom series, etc] whenever you[the player] are doing very good and then all of a sudden you come across a character that can parry and reverse everything you do.

Then Midway's example is very obvious in my SS copy of UMK3. It doesn't happen everytime but on most occasions...i'll shoot my kunai-tipped rope and the moment my fingers input the command Jade is already running at me invincible and stuff[if you've played the game you'll know what i'm talking about]. And everytime I input that attack under similar circumstances[facing her face to face at medium range] she automatically does the beforementioned attack.

Am I the only one to have experienced this...surely not? So what do you all think of that sort of stuff. Is it in our minds, or do the companies actually allow the CPU to "cheat"? Haha

(@robobotnik)

Yeah, there's a very good reason for those difficulties. Fighting games usually start life as arcade games, to get people to pay, they have to lose, in order to keep them interested, they let them win, win a few, then lose badly, repeatedly, then win a few again.

And Pokemon Battle Revolution is the first online Wii title and is out in Japan now, once it's out here and in the US we'll be online too.

Its always going to be hard to do any online fighting game what with frame advantages and lag right at the wrong time don't go well together.

Ahh thats a rather insightful thought there Robo. Thanks. And thanks for that Pokemon olnine news as well. Any ideas when it is coming stateside? =P But yea John W you are right, frame rate and lagging is gonna be an issue. I guess fighters are meant to be played in person. Only bad thing about that is after your friend loses to you like 10 times...you guys will no longer be fighting in polygonal world if you know what I mean. =P
