Okay folks, we all know that a lot of us listen and enjoy VGM from time to time {Go on, don't be ashamed - raise your hand! Don't be shy. }

So, hey, Considering that I've checked back the last ten pages of this forum and not really found one like it, this is pretty much a little music thread discussion that I feel has been sorely lacking in the VG section - where you can come talk about your favourite OST's, what music you're listening to from which game, what OST's you might own, your favourite Composers/Company with regards to solid soundtracks and 'Chooonz' - heck, you can even talk about Chip tunes in here if you so wish! :3
So to start things off, and because I know it's always best to start as you mean to go on...:
Currently, some of my favourite VG Tracks are from games such as Ace Attorney and Final fantasy 9 - not really sure what it is about them, but the tracks themselves are always pretty reliable in terms of emotive impact when relevent, and yet can be easily listened to and enjoyed outside of their original games. FF9 especially has a smorgusboard of awesome, such as 'You are not alone' 'The keeper of time', 'Black Mage Village' 'The place I'll return to someday' and many others...plus the piano collection album is really something else, too. Ace Attorney is pretty legendary with it's musical scores which, although simple simply for being a DS track, stand out and really deliver some amazing little pieces - we all know the Cross Examination/Pursuit/Reminisces and other musical entries usually deliver their point like a well placed smack across the witness's jaw during relevent points of the game. Also...the Final Boss theme for Bowsers inside story - but you all know how epic it is, I don't need to spell that out for ya!
And just to make sure that this thread has it's intended flexibility, I'm currently listening to 'Daughter of Madain Sari' from FF9 - which is only one of the many OST's that I've taken it upon myself to obtain lately...and I enjoy the heck out of all of them! :3
Anyhow, yes - talk about Game music: what you like, what you listen to, what music has stood out, etc.
This thread is intended to be pretty much a catch-all for this ever-increasingly popular topic! :3
Video Game music is awesome - Discuss!

I'm too lazy to discuss the who, what, where, why, when and how of game music I like.

So I'll just post what I've been listening to for the last 3 hours.

Video game music comprises the majority of my "Music Montage" playlists (a lot of anime/movie/fanmade stuff mixed in though). I have at LEAST 4,000 songs.

My Youtube Playlists

Current track I love to listen to: "The Seal Is Broken," from Blue Dragon.

Donkey Kong Country 2 - Mining Melancholy

Sonova-- I thought I was the only one who liked this track. Everyone else is always rambling about Stickerbrush Symphony and Captain K. Rool, but no one ever mentions that little gem. I still get goosebumps when I hear this part.

Honestly, Mining Melancholy and Klubba's Revielle are the only two tracks that actually stuck with me, even when I was playing the game non-stop for weeks on end. Stickerbrush and K.Rool are good tracks, but they just never started humming themselves like the other two did.

What! Oh man I loved all of Daytona USA's music!
I have a big list that I'll post later, as I saw Tigerkiddo posted Grandia and it reminded me I have not attained that Soundtrack (Or most of GII or any of GIII...), even though that is my favorite game of all time. All time. Hands down.

But I will post one song that I have not seen listed. Cause it gives me chills but its so moving.

Sona Mi Areru Mi Sancitu

Wow, guys, great choices so far! Definitely anything Donkey Kong Country related is amazing. And the music from Panzer Dragoon Saga is almost an equal (on a side note, i really need to beat that game). I've also never heard the Daytona song, which happens to be awesome.
Here is a little something that I have recently fallen in love with

Freya's theme - FFIX

Just absolutely beautiful!

Well, just got the new Halo: Reach soundtrack. I particularly fancy the first few minutes of Tip of the Spear.

Also, Tor's theme.

And GIDEON WRATH I.

The Cologne, Germany Video Game Orchestral Concert Collection:

Symphonic Fantasies - Secret of Mana medley part 1

Symphonic Fantasies - Secret of Mana medley part 2

Symphonic Fantasies - Chrono medley part 1

Symphonic Fantasies - Chrono medley part 2

Symphonic Fantasies - Kingdom Hearts medley 1 & 2 (playlist)

Symphonic Fantasies - Final Fantasy medley 1 & 2 (playlist)

Symphonic Fantasies - Final Boss medley

Sweet concert. Linked the stream in the ShoutBox last year just as it was starting.

Symphonic Legends - Nintendo medley (playlist)

This one... I missed. And from what I'm seeing I don't think it was as well-liked as the previous concert. 😮

Favorite video game music? Well don't mind if I do.

Yoshi's Island - Athletic Theme
Yoshi's Island - Castle Theme
Yoshi's Island - Bowser Boss - This just sets the mood perfectly for the final battle. From the fitting intro when Bowser if rearing his ugly mug, to the really fast paced chiptune pace. Amazing just begins to describe it when I first heard it.
Ristar - Ice Scream
Stunt Race FX - Aqua Tunnel
Pokemon Blue Rescue Team - Sky Tower
Pokemon D/P/Pl - Eterna Forest
Megman X5 - Boss Theme  - No other boss battle theme has trumped it for me compared to this one. It oozes the complete ferocity of the enemy and it really pumps me up when I finally get to face the boss in an epic fight.
Megaman X5 - Credits
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Cornered - Anything from PW is pretty great. Especially the first game.
Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble - stage theme - I've probably gotten this theme stuck in my head more than any other song. It's more contagious than it should be. But that's probably why I like it so much.
Fighters Megamix - Ending A - Surprised I actually found this on youtube.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Swamp Stage - This soundtrack gets a lot of flack, simply because of how unfitting it is for a fighting game, but I can't help but love this track.

There's too many to list when it comes to Sonic stuff, so in no real order I'll just put my top five:

Sonic 3 - Hydocity Zone Act 2
Sonic Rush Adventure - Sky Babylon
Sonic Advance 3 - Chaos Angel Act 1
Sonic 3 Lava Reef Zone Act 1 , Act 2
Sonic CD - Stardust Speedway Bad Future (US version)

Others I couldn't pass up:
Sonic Advance - Egg Rocket Zone
Sonic 2 - Sky Chase Zone
Sonic 1 - Starlight Zone
Knuckles' Chaotix - Doors into Summer
Tails' Adventure - Caron Forest

Donkey Kong Country 2 - Mining Melancholy

Sonova-- I thought I was the only one who liked this track. Everyone else is always rambling about Stickerbrush Symphony and Captain K. Rool, but no one ever mentions that little gem. I still get goosebumps when I hear this part.

I kinda like the gba's take on the theme, and all the rants and ilk I hear about how much the Game Boy Advance "ruined" them always sounded silly to me. Disco Train sounds much better to me, and this version of Stikerbrush Syhmphony has it's charm too. Some of the more softer midi instruments gives me another take on already great songs to listen to again.

Forest Interlude and Snakey Chantey were always my favorites though.

I gotta admit, I like that version of Disco Train. Don't care for how some of the other tunes I like, sound in the GBA versions but yea, thanks for the link! Never really gave any thought to listening to the GBA soundtracks like...ever.

If you want to take a gander of them, Hot-Head Bop and Forest Interlude surprised me the most should be taken a listen.

DKC3 gba's version, also done by David Wise, also had a completely different soundtrack as well. 😮

Do not care at all for the DKC3 GBA soundtrack as I liked some of the tracks from the original but that rendition of Forest Interlude is a bit better than the original. Hot Head Bop...I have to give the edge to the original. I like the echo sound to it a bit more, which seemed to fit in well with the levels but this is still pretty nice. GBA can put out some nice tunes!

Just a few names.

David Wise
Eveline Fischer
Michiru Yamane
Yoko Shimomura
Masato Nakamura

All are masters of their craft and make some of the best video game compositions in the history of the form. Whether it is Wise & Fischer's mastery of non-convential ambient and jungle music in the Donkey Kong series, Nakamura's high energy and bass lead scores in the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games, Yamane's creative melding on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or Shimomura's co-op effort on The Legend of the Seven Stars-- they are all iconic and inspired takes on video game music that isn't just more of the same standard that Kondo, Uematsu and others did that is so dull and especially dry.

As for MODERN video game scores, I generally did love Olivier Deriviere's Alone in the Dark and Normand Corbeil's Heavy Rain.

You know what had a great soundtrack? Shadowrun (SNES version, natch).

They say the Genesis version was vastly superior... never played it, but this game was pretty good in its own right.
