ATLUS TO INJECT NINTENDO DS WITH TRAUMA CENTER: UNDER THE KNIFE 2
The operating room is portable again this July.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 7th, 2008 - Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced Trauma Center®: Under the Knife 2 for Nintendo DS™, a direct sequel to the 2005 smash hit. The fast-paced medical action that made the handheld original a classic is back, along with all of your favorite Trauma Center characters. Rejoin Derek and Angie as they deal with the unpredictable aftereffects of GUILT. With numerous enhancements, including new difficulty modes and new operations, handheld surgeons have a lot to be excited about.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 is currently scheduled to release on July 1st

Visit the official Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 website:
http://www.atlus.com/tcutk2

While the announcment mentions the affereffects of GUILT, the main website mentions a familiar threat lurking on the horizon. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the old GUILT forms return, along with some newer ones, or mutations of the old ones. The announcment also mentions new difficulty modes. An email sent to everyone on the Atlus.com mailing list mentions an easy difficulty. I'm hoping for a hard mode as well. Another new feature is a Chain system, where it keeps track of how many steps you've performed in a row successfully. Obviously, keeping a high chain is in your best interest score wise.

Along with Derek and Angie, the official sites character section has several darkened out faces, but it is possible to see some of the older Trauma Center characters along with some new ones.

My ONLY complaint is that they've gone with the art style that was used for the Wii Trauma Center, and not the more anime style of the original DS version.

But Atlus, you really know how to tickle my hearstrings and empty my wallet. <3

I don't really follow the series, but I thought the Wii games were... sequels? Plotwise, I mean. This is a direct sequel to the first DS game, right? Then... the Wii games were... what? Non-canon? Re-imagings (Ultimate Trauma Center?)?

...

?

Allow me to educate you, Psx-san.

The original Trauma Center: Under The Knife on the DS was the start of the story of Derek Stiles and the GUILT virus. Trauma Center: Second Opinion on the Wii was a remake of Under The Knife, with a few extra missions, new art style and another playable character (Naomi Weaver). Trauma Center: New Blood on the Wii is a sequal that takes place 10 years after Under The Knife. It was generally completely seperate from Under The Knife, apart from a cameo appearance by Derek and Angie.

Under The Knife 2 is a direct sequal to Under The Knife/Second Opinion, and will focus on the story of Derek and Angie, and the after effects of the GUILT virus.

So;

Under The Knife/Second Opinion > Under The Knife 2 > New Blood

I never played any of the Wii Trauma Center games, but I did love the first DS one rather extremely. I really need to re-get it since a friend of mine who loved the game was allowed to keep my copy as a birthday gift last year, since I was broke. XD
