I got Halo PC for Christmas this year and I would play it for awhile until it started bugging out. Weird textures seemed to pop up randomly and obstruct my view, making the game nearly unplayable. I tried trouble-shooting this with a couple of guys on a Halo forum, but nothing worked. I assumed the problem couldn't be solved and gave up on trying to play it.
Fast forward to today. I downloaded a free online game called Gunz and was trying to play it, when I run into the same problem! I've played this game before on my friends PC with no issues. This leads me to believe that it must be some problem with my video card settings. It's possible that I might have changed something, but I'm not sure what. Here's a screenshot of what I experienced in Halo:
Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
Step 1) Get a new video card
Step 2) Get some more RAM
Step 3) ???
Step 4) PROFIT
If only it were that easy.
I know my video card and computer aren't great, but they do meet the system requirements to run these games. I'm convinced that this is a software issue.
To be "convinced" it's software that means you tried another video card and it ran fine, right?
Anyway first things first, specs on this card? Have you updated the drivers? Have you trying turning down the setting in the game?

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB. I haven't updated the drivers recently but I did do that when I was trying to play Halo a few months ago. I'll do that as soon as possible. As far as the settings in the game, that didn't have any effect on Halo. Haven't tried it with Gunz yet.
I went through the installation process for my video card's latest driver and at the end it said it would run a test to make sure things were working properly after I restarted. I restarted and got this error:
EDIT: Now I can't even get into ATI's Catalyst Control Center to look at my video card settings. I get a similar error when I try to open it. There's definitely something wrong with my driver.
Are you sure you installed the right drivers? I'm not that up on ATI so Cyke could probably help you more than me here.

Download, install, and follow the instructions in the readme file. Make sure you've installed the Catalyst Software Suite for Windows XP.
I get an "Unauthorized download" page when I click the second link Cyc. I'll try it again later.
