Call of Duty: Black Ops.

I haven't cracked the single player yet, but my friends and I have been blasting away at the split screen. While I like the fact that everything is unlocked in split screen mode, I find it annoying that it doesn't save any of the custom character set ups.

Playing through the fantastic SMT: Lucifers Call (Nocturne for you NTSC gits) again. Dear lord I love this game. About to head to Ausakusa to meet up with the Manikins. Just cleared the second Kalpa, and rocking a team of;

Hito-Shura - 40
Matador - 36
Daisoujou - 37
Valkyrie - 37

Got a Deathstone waiting to fuse Hell Biker once I hit 42 to replace Valkyrie. =D

EDIT: Since no one's replied since my laste update; Still playing SMT: LC. About to follow Ale- Sorry, Hijiri into the Amala Network. Third Kalpa done (Least favourite part of the game), and team is now;

Hito-Shura - 61
Black Frost - 66
White Rider - 52
Daisoujou - 50

It may just be that I know more about the game, maybe I'm a little wiser since I last played it a few years ago, but it seems to be easier this time around. Mara posed no problems, and even going into the Mother Harlot fight with a physical heavy team didn't prove a challenge.

Also, awaiting eagerly for Fable III and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

These ended up being the most disappointing things of the year next to Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. The latter seems to be a very stripped down and just flashy NFS game, the AI is stupid, the lack of local multiplayer and the overgloss of it all doesn't seem to be made up for in the online capabilities. The quality of the Hot Pursuit games were not based around glitz and gloss. Not to mention the AI has gotten stupider. Insulting. As for Fable 3-- very short and dumbed down as someone mentioned above. The plot isn't engaging and the extreme amount of glitches and untested variables (mostly in co-op) are not excusable. Oddly enough the co-op saves it from being a 2-3 and holds it as a 4-5. Still massively unengaging and mediocre.

Not counting some arcade games (re: Uno, Spades, & Zuma) on XBLA:

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 (spending most of my free-time on this one actually)
NBA2K9 (I'm waiting 'til December to get NBA2K11 and I never did get 2K10)
Final Fantasy XIII
Sonic UGC (mainly for the Sonic games, but I finally started branching out and trying some of the others--Flicky is driving me nuts right now ;p)

Since NaNoWriMo has been conquered, I haven't played really anything but twice in the span of a few days, I was at my local Target and got a chance to try out Donkey Kong Country Returns. Being a big DKC fan, I figured I owed it to try out this new addition to the DKC series. Annnnnndddd...

...I don't like it. Maybe it's just me but I miss quite a few things in this game. The levels sometimes seem a bit busy and I almost have to play levels five or six times over to remember things that would make the levels easier. Guess that's okay for replay value but meh. I prefer my replay value in other ways. Not being able to play as Diddy after losing Donkey is lame. I kind of liked the different controls between the stronger but slower Donkey and the quick and weaker Diddy. The music isn't all that memorable compared to the original trilogy or even some of the remakes on the GBA! The levels are a bit on the bland side, it reminds me of the original DKC, which was my least favorite because the levels were just kinda BORING. DKC2 had it best with the pirate theme while DKC3 had the most variety in levels, even if it lacked in other areas and just wasn't as good as 2. DKCR just...ahhh, I miss the Kremmlings. I don't care much for these Tiki foes, they just don't seem as fun as the Kremmlings, who have retired to Kremmling, Colorado I see. Saying ALL that, it's a good platformer and a solid addition to the Wii library. I was just hoping for a game that would really really cause me to buy a Wii again, and I'm just not seeing it.

Bought Sonic Colors DS and Dragon Quest 9 so I hope these will be good!

Just finished Final Fantasy 9 after taking absolutely ages to play it. My god what a satisfying end (other than the final boss having a stupid attack that managed to cast Death on my entire party and knocking me out in one move. Seriously, wtf?). Definitely my favourite Final Fantasy with FF4 in at a close second. Marvelous game, I'd love to a CGI pixar/dreamworks movie adaptation of it as I think the style of the game would lend itself well to it. The style and atmosphere of 9 is what all of the Final Fantasy's should be like, instead of this boring bishounen hero look we've got in so many of the installments.

My favourite game of all time...nice choice!

I bought it a few days ago and agree with you 100% on all of your points. If the music isn't reused from the original it is really boring, and Diddy not being playable is absolutely stupid. I havn't finished it, but so far I know it isn't close to the first three. Quite a shame too, because I would take the Donkey Kong Country series over Sonic anyday. I knew from the beginning that it wouldn't the same, but too much was taken away and the new wasn't nearly good enough. I guesse it has been fun and it got me to play my Wii again. When it takes you 20 minutes to find the controller you know its been too long.

On a much brighter note; I bought a few games for my PS3.
I remember when Killzone 2 was first coming out that it was toted as a Halo killer, like pretty much any FPS with some hype, but I never put much thought into it. That is untill I bought and played it. First note would most definitely be the graphics. Close to two years after its release and I havn't played anything as beautiful, not even Reach. The second note includes the really cool environments that you fight in. One level has you playing in a refinery located in a desert. With the high winds and sand slapping across the screen you can't help but notice how fun it is to shoot up the Helghast. Oh, the Helghast are really cool characters themselves. I really like their glowing red goggles. The story isn't anything to call home about, but it does get the job done and happens to be much easier to follow then Halo or Call of Duty. I havn't played online yet, but I did play a bot match and found it fun.
I also bought Infamous and Uncharted. Infamous is really fun and cool, and I havn't bothered to open Uncharted.

I picked up Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare and was thoroughly disappointed. The majority of the missions are glorified fetch quests, and when the story finally gets interesting, it's over in a matter of minutes. The world feels incredibly empty, which I understand; every survivor is holed up somewhere. But what about the other thousand or so that are turned into zombies? You essentially have to look (fairly hard, I might add) for enemies. And once the game is over, there's not much else to do.

With that being said, I also finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Perfection. Great gameplay, and the story had me so hooked, I played for hours at a time just to see what happens next.

Awesome, based on that I'll skip Undead until my work gets it in and I can grab it for cheap. Not like I have time to play it anyways... I still have Brotherhood, New Vegas, Plants vs Zombies, Borderlands, and NBA Jam to play/finish... as well as Black Ops.

And I completely agree about Brotherhood. I spent most of Black Friday just training up my seven recruits to be Assassins... And now it is just fun walking around, hitting the LB and having an entire group of guards wiped out in seconds I'm playing the Facebook game right now, hopefully there will be some decent stuff to unlock in Brotherhood.

I got Epic Mickey for really cheap, so I'll probably start that soon as well. Don't know what to expect from it really. Also going to be starting Golden Sun DS. I think I'm done with my gaming purchases for the year though. I can't think of anything I really need/ want.

Got Dragon Quest 9 on Black Friday since it was on sale and haven't put it down since. Well okay I put it down to try out Sonic Colors DS but I didn't like it, took it out and went back to Dragon Quest! It's a shame your companions are just...there but I guess you can't always have a colorful crew of characters.

I'll probably get GT5 eventually. I'm a moderate fan of racers. I love Burnout (I have them all) and Need For Speed. NFS: Hot Pursuit was on my list to pick up quickly, but when I found out that they took out split-screen, it dropped to nearly the bottom. As much as I loved the first 2 Hot Pursuits, and have a great deal of respect for what Criterion has done with racers, the main reason I play most racers is split-screen play with my friends. Racers aren't really my thing these days, anyway.

I understand GT5 has split-screen, but I've never been a huge fan of the series. My friends and I played the hell out of GT1, skipped 2, and only a bit of 3. I don't think I even ever saw 4. I won't be getting it soon, but the split-screen bumps it up ahead of NFS:HP.

So I see, so I see. I loved NFS:HP 2 back on GC/PS2/Xbox. Kinda hate I traded it in now. And this new NFS: HP looks amazing. From what i've heard it's fantastic. And the Burnout series is definitely a big name in racers this past decade. I never got into it though. Midnight Club has always been my calling. And GT...the third one is the only one i've really really gotten into. But my gosh...I REALLY got into it. GT5 is really something special though. And I say special meaning...you've gotta have a special taste to appreciate it. I'd guess the majority of gamers would say it's a pretty bad game, probably. It's a game for people that understand the mechanical ins and outs of what makes a motorized vehicle what it is. Not arcadey at all...and sometimes boring. But it's a game I see myself playing for the next couple of years, hands down.

Also with regard to 'getting some online going' I'm organising a small tournament on another forum scheduled for the 27th of this month, you'd be welcome to join that if you like, provided of course we can trust you not to ram, crash or take shortcuts lol

I didn't mind GT1 being a flat-out sim. My friends and I spent a lot of time tweeking our cars. I loved the hell out of that game. Over the last few years, though, I've found my interest in racing games dwindling. And with them taking split-screen out, it reduces my interest that much more.

90% of the fun in racers for me is the multi-player with friends, and not all of my friends have internet at their place. Even NFS: MW (I still have my Black Edition) still had split-screen. NFS: Carbon had it, as well, and that was the last NFS I bought.

The big thing stopping me from getting GT5 or NFS:HP right now is the fact that they'll just end up on my pile-o-shame for the time being. GT5 might get some split-screen action, but most of my friends are into Cod:BO right now (and frankly, so am I).

Oh well in that case you should definitely enjoy GT5, NotU. There's quite a bit of tweaking to be done. But I know what you mean about the split screen thing. Midnight Club LA had no split screen. Only online play. LAME! And GT5's split screen is only for two players. But I suppose that's best, unless you happen to have a 65" TV 4 player split screen doesn't sound so fun. lol But yea...CoD:BO it's the game lots of people are on right now. 😛

I actually nearly picked up GT5 today, but I decided to hold off on it. I don't have much spending money right now, and it'll likely be next month at the soonest before I have a chance to play it, so I plan to wait until then.

Who else is doing CoD:BO right now? I just unlocked the option to buy the FN FAL, and I love it's stats. The semi-auto, though, doesn't much work for me. Not for assault rifle class, anyway. Normally I run as a sniper, but this game doesn't really have a good sniper feel to it. I've been having most of my luck with the Galil (ACOG and dual mags).

I've pro'd Scavenger, Warlord, Ninja, and Second Chance. Right now, I'm working on Marathon (just started it). I nearly have a few others pro'd, like Ghost (why won't anybody set a sentry gun? Destroying a sentry gun is the last requirement for me to get pro!).

If you count 'accidental' as friendly, yeah - so long as it isn't intentional that's fine. Intentionally barging past someone though, even in a friendly manner, would be looked down upon. You'll always get the occasional rub or bump in close racing, but we try to keep that to an absolute minimum.

And I got your message, I'll add you tomorrow. Also check your inbox, I'll send you a link to that tournament thread (I won't post it here to avoid accusations of advertising another board, but if anyone else is interested let me know).

Prologue, or an actual downloadable demo in the PSN? I thought about buying Prologue, but they kept saying the full game was coming out soon, so I kept putting off buying it.

I was hoping a few others here were playing CoD:BO, since I saw a couple others list it on their play list. But I guess they're either playing the game, or not receiving post notices / checking the forums that often.

Yea I meant the downloadable one. It was a time trial. Pretty BA. As for Prologue...yea I debated getting it a year or so ago...and eventually caved and got it at the end of last year. Seems it was the right move...considering GT5 came out a whole. year. later. lol But yea...i'm not playing BO, sorry. =/ But im sure there are alot of people here playing it...just too busy playing to post about it. xP

Been playing Cataclysm pretty much non stop. Haven't hit 85 yet but that's because I've been levelling professions, trying out archaeology and trying out the Goblin and Worgen starting areas. Worgen certainly have a ricer, more lore filled starting area, while the Goblin one is just fantastic fun.

Where did you hear that it was fantastic? I haven't been paying mind to many reviews, but those who loved the Hot Pursuit series out of my friends have disliked it quite a bit. As I said in my last post,

I really don't like the Burnout games and I feel that the Burnout guys wanted to take everything that was NFS out of the Hot Pursuit reboot. Just my opinion and all.

I respect your opinion Mike, but I'd have to disagree. The latest NFS HP in my book is one of the best games I've ever played.

The visuals are lavish and beautiful, but not so much as to distract and detract from the gameplay, which in itself is awesome and very exciting. Charging up a twisty mountain road in a Maclaren F1, powersliding the sweeping corners and burning down the long straights, is quite a spectacular experience unlike anything I've really felt in an arcade computer game before - this game with it's intuitive handling and breathtaking speed delivers a level of intensity and spectacle totally unmatched by competators of it's genre, or previous installments in the series. The police chases are fun from both the cop and racer point of view, and the online games are utterly superb. In fact it's only real flaw in my view is it's 'autolog' menu system, which is badly designed and hard to use, but fortunately you don't have to spend much time using it, you can jump into games very quickly.

It's swiftly become one of my favorite games of all time, and if it wasn't for GT5 coming out a week later I'd be playing virtually every night. Each to their own though...

The Hot Pursuit games have always been 'high gloss' graphics for their times, the new one is no different in that regard. Most reviewers I've heard have loved it (I listen to Weekend Confirmed, 1up, and Mobcast. I'm sure there are others, but that's all I remember off the top of my head.) They all say it has it's flaws and doesn't seem to have a long life to it (one noted that none of his friends were playing it after a couple weeks), but that it was over-all a great game.

I don't know what reviews you've been hearing, Mike, but the worst I've heard was that it was a great game with a few flaws. Unfortunately, the biggest flaw to me is the lack of local multi-player, which nearly kills the chances of me picking it up.

Yeah, the lack of local multiplayer is definitely a gamebreaker-- I traded it in as a NFS fan after two weeks and yeah, Wraith-- the visuals and mechancis are fine and the experience was pretty interesting for me at first. Note that I play as a cop and the fact the NPC AI is so stupid, it hurts it majorly. I don't remember the AI in NFS:HP2 being completely grounded and when a cop was blaring down the road-- not moving. This adds to the game breakage for me and it's fine if you dig it (somehow) but as a lifelong Need for Speed fan I was hyped for this and when I actually got a copy I felt it was one of the most disappointing games for me. It's just... blah.

I personally don't see why a NFS development team wasn't on board... if I wanted to play a Burnout game, I'd play one of those. I just want Criterion out of my favorite racing franchise because of this.

I've been stomping my way through Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I'm in sequence 4, but I've been taking my time and getting everything. Every ****ing thing. I have 7 full assassins (level 10). The only reason I don't have more is because the other 3 Borga towers aren't available for me to take right now.

I also have every business, landmark, and such that I can get. As a result, I have more money than I need. There are a couple flags and feathers that I've found, but can't figure out how to get right now. At this point, I just need start finishing more missions.

I've been juggling playthroughs of several different games:

Earthbound - It's been years since I've last played this, and even then I would always lose interest just after Threed. As a matter of fact, I'm there now. I think I'll go all the way this time.

Parasite Eve 2 - Prepping for 3rd Birthday. I remember thinking it was a bad game compared to PE1, but every time I play it I get so into it. I'm only at Apokrolips Tower, though.

Phantasy Star IV - Best Phantasy, bar none. Just got to Rykros. The world needs more sprite-based games with manga-styled cutscenes.

Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition - Picked it up during Black Friday for 20-30 bucks (PS3 version). Had played through the 360 version once on normal and mastered Mercenaries mode before it was sold. This time intend to unlock all the goodies. I started by completing Story mode, Desperate Escape and Lost in Nightmares (on easy, I'm working my way up). Also (again) mastered Mercenaries and this time Mercenaries Reunion. Still have a lot of trophies to claim, the BSAA emblems are such a pain.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days - Just felt like it, ahead of Re:Coded getting released. Though my DS Lite's L button seems to be dying on me... I forget what day I'm on, the last big story bit was Xion being in a coma.

Xenosaga Episode 3 - I stopped playing this a while back (might have mentioned starting it before in this thread actually) but recently fired it back up. Abel's Ark is back and I'm about to go in.

Still playing Pokeymanz Heart Gold, though I downloaded Cave Story on Wii. Hot damn, it's really fun. Downloaded Sonic Fan Remix's demo as well, and it's just amazing.

Played through the Sly Collection since it was on sale for cheap a couple weeks back. Maybe it's just me but the first Sly seemed to do everything right. I don't mind the hub worlds of the sequels as they are generally designed well but most of them are over populated with foes and I don't like controlling Bentley and Murray as much. Really tries to put the emphasis on stealth but I see it more as tedium.

Whatever, Sly 1 is super fun. I loved most of the worlds but the Western USA themed one had to be the most fun, especially with the side scrolling action. Oh and the battle with the Voodoo Croc was the funnest boss fight I've had in some time, wow.

No More Heroes 2! I finally got a copy (took me long enough). This game is so much fan I completely forgot about my overwhelming backlog of unbeaten games. Those 10 or so JRPGs can wait I must see the end of NMH2!

^_^ This brings me joy. As for me...I'm thinking im gonna plug up my DC tomorrow...so that means...VO: OT! And i'll probably play some Power Stone as well.

After a week long hiatus of playing pretty much any thing I finally beat NMH2. I have an undying hate for the last boss as he pissed me off soooo bad. I think it was only by luck that I beat him, and when I did, suprise another fight heading your way. Oh well great game is great. Moving on my Xbox 360 hard drive broke down this time taking all my save data with it. There goes five years worth of gaming goodness. I'm mad at my 360 so I'll think I'll neglect him for awhile. Decided to finish Persona 3 Portable and all was well. Found a copy of Megaman 64 lying around. Since it has been a long time since I played Megaman Legends I'l think I'll start this.

I've played the PS2 version of all three. Does Sly 1 still rely on those stupid horseshoes for health or do you actually have a health meter like in Sly 2 and 3?

No health meter. You do have the horseshoe system. I thought it worked out fine for Sly 1...perhaps I was in the minority in thinking that? Health meter would have made it even easier.

I died several times when I played Sly 1 and only having two horeshoes possible made it worse. Heh, heh, maybe I just sucked!

Finally got my hands on a copy of Dissidia, so I've been playing that alongside '06.

Went to play Megaman 64 only to find out that the battery is screwed up inside the cart, and my N64 Memory card has been busted for years! I mean seriously this is getting ridiculous! I eventually decided to play Metroid Prime instead. I was going to shoot for a speed run (in MP), but opted instead to take it more casually and get 100% (I'm pretty sure I remeber where all the scans and power ups are, but we'll see).

Finally finished Assassins Creed Brotherhood last night, and wowsers. Unexpected ending was unexpected.

Having trouble deciding what to play next, so I've been giving Forza 3 a red-hot-go until I decide what I want to go through next.
