I wanted to get that game when I first heard about it. Never got around to it though. Looks great though.
Better snatch up a copy as soon as you can as it is getting increasingly hard to find.
Zelda DX was my first Zelda. Probably my favorite, too; that or Ocarina. There's just something so appealing to be on that island in the middle of nowhere... or maybe it's all just nostalgia. Well, whatever it is, I greatly enjoyed it, even though I got stuck at several points... (How was I supposed to know that you had to light up the start of the second dungeon that way? Oh, and the sixth one was a real pain in the rear for a while, too, though thankfully everything became much more straightforward after that. And the eighth dungeon, while I won't say I got stuck on, is a freakin' MAZE...)
Plus I have the British version, so my cartridge cover has black-on-black instead of gold-on-black like the US version. I think it's a bit faded, though, if only in one spot.
@ Shadow Hog, I started at the original LOZ, but DX is easily my favorite of the series after Majora's Mask. It had things, experiences that will never be duplicated again.
Nostalgia indeed.
Recently, I bought Guild Wars. WHY DIDN'T I BUY THIS SOONER!? Excellent PvP, the best I've seen in any MMORPG. PvE is okay, since I still have much of the map to explore. Uh, their site is http://www.guildwars.com , I think. I like this more than WoW right now.
And the first expansion, Factions, is due to come out on the 26th of this month. Did I mention there were no subscription fees? Just buy a campaign and play it for as long as you want.
200 lines= MINE
Just thought you all should know =D
Good.
Now go up to, like, 350 or 400 or so. I have.
310 is my best score =/
Wow. Either I really suck, or Tetris DS is a bit different from the old GameBoy version... Or both.
Anyway, my brother was over today, and for some strange reason we got the urge to dig out the old stuff and ended up playing Duck Hunt and Mario 1, with a little Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2) later. (he was the only one to play Duck Hunt actually, I just watched and laughed when he missed ) Although I usually prefer the original NES version (or the GameBoy Color version), due in part to the whole nostalgic thing, we played the Mario All-Stars version of SMB1, as it forces us to take turns after each level. Otherwise he might not get a chance to play. Funny, because many years ago it used to be the other way around.
Now if only he would have more interest in Armored Core...
As for myself currently, I'm going to mess with the NES SMB1 for a bit as long as it's already out, then it's probably back to Zelda DX.
Yeah, Tetris DS has this lame thing called "Infinite Rotation". Essentially, mash the rotate button indefinitely, and your piece won't lock into place. Bad idea in multiplayer, since that lets the attacks pile up, but in single-player it becomes pretty much mandatory after Level 10. Worst of all, it can't be turned off.
It's a great game and all, but it really needed more customization of those features it added.
I'm taking a healthy break from videogame right now...
I'm playing Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!
It's pretty good actually. I'm a fan of sudoku and these quizes... The program is pretty good at guessing what you wrote. It has screwed up numbers a couple of times, but it is fairly accurate.
Recently completed Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Thanks to never owning either PlayStation until last year, I didn't really get into the MGS games until then. The first was excellent, but I was disappointed by the backtracking for the sniper rifle, the disproportionately short second disc and the fact that my PS2 prevents me from hearing the post-credit epilogue or obtaining the bonus items. 🙁
I prefer the second one, even though I wasn't convinced by some of its more abstract ideas:
Spoilers (Select To Read): Like the parallels between the Big Shell and Shadow Moses, and the idea that the Patriots have been gestating in the primordial soup of the White House, and the annoying fact that even though Raiden "wins" at the end of the game, he was only ever doing the will of the Patriots...
However, MGS3 is now my favourite of the series. It has a much more straightforward thriller plot, and unlike the previous game, where the momentum of the climax was destroyed by the longest codec conversation in the history of the universe before the final battle, this game's ending is utterly amazing: with some of the most wonderfully audacious action cut-scenes ever (and that includes many movies), it just throws climax after climax after climax at you. And just when you think it's all over, it gives you a final, tense moment of interaction that only a videogame could do.
However the script in the non-action scenes isn't great: the exposition in the conversation between Kruschev and President Johnson and was particularly overlong, and interrupted the drama of Snake's drop-in; and the meditations on soldiers and war still aren't particularly insightful. But without them, it wouldn't be MGS, would it? :p
The game also throws you in at the deep-end with the close-quarters-combat system. Initially it isn't explained very well (either in the manual or the codec), and you'll find that you keep slitting their throat when you just want to choke them, and releasing them after you fire a shot while using them as a shield. The game also makes it a lot harder to sneak up on people (stalking makes so slow that it's harder to estimate when you'll reach them), although it is actually easier in some ways, like the fact that HQ doesn't check up on guards' status.
But it also punishes mistakes a lot more, with the "Caution" phase taking aaaaaaages to count down. I suppose going on for that long does provide an incentive to try and take out everyone in the area rather than simply wait out their searches, but when I was spotted I often preferred to take the fake death pill and restart the area rather than get into a firefight. That's the reason for my embarrasingly high death count at the end of the game. 🙂
Yeah, it's much easier to just lie down and headshot-snipe everyone from a distance - but that's for wusses! Once you get the hang of CQC, it's immensely satisfying to sneak through an entire area withot being spotted, interrogating and tranquilising every single guard. (I think it would be good if the number of times you do that was included in the end-of-game statisics, since its such a challenge and there aren't any dog tags to collect.)
I was playing on the standard version of the game, but bird's-eye camera was very awkward: for the PS1 MGS, it was a good balance between familiar 16-bit viewpoints and then-next-gen graphics, but in this game's jungle, with its constant switching to first-person view, it doesn't work so well. I'll probably rent Subsistence when it comes out here, if the camera change makes as big a difference as I hear.
It's filled with lots of great moments, though:
Funniest bit? The Sigint conversation when you first get in a box.
Most atmospheric bit? The Sorrow, definitely. God, that was brilliant. Scary and funny...
Hardest bit? Escaping from Grosnij Grad armed with only a fork...
So, yeah, my favourite MGS.
Other games I'm playing:
Broken Sword 2: I bought the third one recently, but I want to complete this first.
Fantavision: Haven't even completed it on Normal yet. 🙁
R-Type Final: Pretty much the first shmup I've played since Silkworm on the Amiga (great game, that was), it seems to get a lot of criticism from the hardcore purists, but I like it so far.
Headhunter Redemption: It's quite decent, but nothing particularly special. I am enjoying it though.
And, in other news, my Dreamcast has finally succumbed to the infamous resetting problem. With any luck, that should be easy enough to fix.
Soul Calibur 3. Had to restart after my save file went all wonky.
Shadow Of The Collossus. Currently time-attacking all of the Collosi in Normal mode before moving on to Hard mode.
1989 Tetris on my SP.
I might move on to We ♥ Katamari, Kingdom Hearts 2, or LoZ: Oracle of Ages or Seasons.
VOOT. I. shall. unlock. Alpha Temjin. Over.
I'm done of Tetris for a while after reaching level 220 last night, so right now I am starting Tales of Symphonia over again.
I still need to kill DDK and HSW for making me want to play this game again.
I was planning to go back to Zelda DX, but I haven't made it there yet... Played through the two-player campaign in Medal of Honor Rising Sun with my brother recently, and that put me in a MoH mood again. So I'm playing the single-player campaign of MoH Rising Sun (PS2) now, and will most likely go on to MoH European Assault (GC) after that, since I still haven't gotten around to doing much with that game even though I've had it for quite a while. I like what little I've seen of it, but I've been too much in the mood for other things lately.
EDIT: Changed my mind on Rising Sun, not really in the mood the play that one again. Just going straight to European Assault.
Current games:
Dead or Alive 4
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Perfect Dark: Zero
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
Sense a pattern? That's right! They're all available for the Xbox 360! =D You get a cookie! *Gives cookie*
I'm playing Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga(GBA game) on my DS. It's a pretty cool game!!!!!
Been playing nothing but Medal of Honor European Assault lately. Me loves this game. Best console MoH yet in my opinion. And I'm definitely glad I went with the GameCube version. My only real complaint is that it looks to be a bit short, I'd probably be finished with it by now if I wasn't trying to get gold medals in each mission before moving on to the next. As it is, I'll probably be playing through it again after I finish it completely. If it's as good as this, I'll definitely be looking forward to MoH Airborne when it comes out (and hopefully it'll be a bit longer).
I bought a PlayStation 2 with Shadow of the Colossus yesterday, and feeling a might bit overwhelmed. See, I'm basically on the edge of a vast ocean of must-play titles with my toes in the water. So mostly what I'm playing (between marvelling at how awesome SotC is) is the game where I compile an ever-growing shopping list of PS2 titles I have to buy. It's already about two pages long.
Well while my PSU went pop. it allowed me to play some games.
Shadow of the Colossus is amazing. Her-uge play area.
Ico: I am afraid of playing this game. I don't want yorda to be stolen from me. why did it have to have those things in it.
Prince of Persia: Sands of time. Wow. it ruled.
Sonic Riders. I found this really, really fun. It isnt perfect but i found it vey enjoyable.
Tekken 5. Oh Heihatchi you're so evil 😀
A little bit 'o:
Bust-a-Move DS
Mario Kart DS
Sonic Pinball Party
Kingdom Hearts 2
Random e-Reader Games
and MANY more!!
Taking a break from Medal of Honor European Assault for a little while as I'm getting into a Need for Speed Most Wanted mood. Suprised to find that the PC version is actually fairly playable on my laptop if I keep the settings near the bottom. Certainly doesn't look as good as it does on my main system (or even the GameCube), but it's nice to have the portability option.
I'll probably be messing around with the PC version mostly for a while, partly because I like using the Xbox 360 controller with it and also because I kind of need to refresh my brain a bit on the game since I haven't played it in a while. I last left off at #2 on the blacklist with the GameCube version, so I think I'd do well to refamiliarize myself with the PC version (where I haven't gone as far) before attempting to finish off my GC game save.

Bust-a-Move DS
When did this start existing? >: O
Sonic Riders - Good for a bit of fun
Blazing Angels - High-flying action over the skies of WW2! =D
Final Fantasy XI - Join up with an awesome party for 1 battle before everyone has to leave
.Hack Parts 1 - 4 - I'm gonna be busy for a while
Good times. =)
Did Jiminy's Journal in standard mode on KH2, so started again on Proud mode to do it again. Currently breezing through the final stage and about to take on the high score challanges, after synthisis and cups, I'll be done soon.
Alternating with Guitar Hero and Resident Evil DS.
Tales of Phantasia Advance, to commemorate a version of this game actually getting a UK release at long last.
Oblivion. Which frankly feels like a prettier morrowind with less wandering. Still good though.
- Sonic Riders (AAAAH missions)
- Tales of Phantasia (Fun game.)
- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (I'll play through this until the UK gets KH2 and I have the money for it.)
- Halo 2 (Never again will I beaten 25-4!)
- Tales of Symphonia (is it ever possible to stop playing this one?)
I'm going to be playing Halo 2 on LIVE for the next couple of days. My subscription (and my roommates') expires on Friday D:
Then that's it until fall...maybe... I might buy my roommate's Xbox for next year... If my new roommates don't have one that is...
Halo PC demo. Been considering looking into this for quite a while, just recently decided to grab it (partly because the spiffy Halo 3 trailer got me in the mood). I'm liking it so far. Seems pretty fun, plays nicely with my Xbox 360 controller (which I was pleased to see, since most PC shooters aren't very gamepad-friendly), and it runs great on my system. (even with my mediocre video card, I can run it at the max settings with a nice smooth framerate) Seeing as how it's only $20 new, so I'll probably be picking this one up soon.
Well, as of Tuesday, I'll be playing New Super Mario Bros., and maybe some Meteos, but for what I have now? Well...
Megaman X Collection-PS2- Megaman X. I have quite a way to go, I have like 2 more bosses left.
Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2-PS2- I'll keep playing it until the watered down Supernova comes out in September. Figures, they make me geek out at the thought of having 300 songs on one DDR, on a console, before shooting me down. The same, "65+ Songs with over 100 Minutes of dance music" quote hurts.
And that's it...my Gamecube sits in the dust, and my DS untouched for months, since I finished Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories to prep for Kingdom Hearts 2. Thinking of maybe going through it again, on Proud Mode. Cuz, ya know, that journal is ridiculous.
Been playing Need for Speed Most Wanted (GC) quite a bit lately. Managed to finish the career mode and finally unlock that spiffy car (BMW M3 GTR). A little annoying that they make you do all that work to get the car, only to then not have much to do with it since you've completed the career. There are still a few assorted races left that I didn't complete the first time through though, and I could always try to beat some of those rap sheet rankings, so there's still a bit to use that car with. Also still have a bit to do in the Challenge series, which I'm about 1/3 through.
Probably going to continue playing NFSMW off and on for a while, but my focus is now shifting primarily toward the PC version of Halo, which just arrived yesterday. Haven't done a lot with it yet, but it's seeming pretty nice so far.
New
Super
Mario
Bros.
(Buy now.)
Ditto...played like 5minutes in the parking lot of the store...but I had to go watch my HS Track team win STATE!
Uno on the 360.
Because I don't have New Super Mario Bros. yet.
New Super Mario Bros... That's the one game so far that kinda makes me wish I had a DS. Oh well, hopefully Super Paper Mario will satisfy my 2D Mario fix...
As for the topic, I have finally acquired a WaveBird for my GameCube. And I wuvs it. I'm finding that wireless freedom is indeed a beautiful thing. And the reviews I've read weren't kidding when they said it feels almost exactly like the wired GC controller. (the analog triggers feel slightly different and the left stick feels just a little bit looser, but I don't really notice either after a few minutes) Just wish I could've gotten it in gray. This is making me seriously consider getting the wireless Xbox 360 controller to use with my PC once they release the receiver needed to make it work (depending on the price).
Anyway. Because of the WaveBird acquisition and the weird mood I'm in, I'm alternating between Halo for PC, Star Wars Battlefront II for PS2 (love that Rise of the Empire campaign), and Zelda: Ocarina of Time for GC, with a little Need for Speed Most Wanted (GC version) throw in as well.
Ape Escape 3--well, I just beat the whole game sans most of the Time Attack mode and Mesal Gear Solid. It was a fun game overall, but it was a bit on the easy side.
New Super Mario Bros.!!!
Seriously, this is the best game I've bought this year so far!
I really want to play NSMB...
...however, I want to get a DSLite first.
That game deserves the best brilliant screen to be showcased in.
I'll be getting a DS Lite this June...the day it launches...
I'd love to have a Black one, but I don't want to wait...So I'll end up getting a white one. The big question is, should I trade in my old DS now, before the launch?
The day DS lite launches in Europe is Sonic's birthday.
I will get one...eventually.
I actually own a DS game but don't have a DS. Come on Advance Wars: DS 13 in Tesco. Bargain!.
I'm playing NBA 2K6 and i'm having fun!!
As of the past month and a half..i've been killing Marvel vs. Capcom on DC. After selling my PS2 and GC, and losing my GC all I have is my DC and Saturn(only have Sonic R). So yea, until November(or June if I get a DS Lite) i'm stuck with my DC(which I do love). =)

After selling my PS2
O_O but... but!! How does one play Armored Core without a PS2??
*mourns for your loss*
As for myself, it's been mostly Zelda: OoT. Been reminded of just how much I hate that blasted Water Temple. >_< Funny how one of my all time favorite games can have one of my most hated levels in it. Past that now though, so it's on to the Spirit Temple next.
Need to try to finish up with that soon though, since I went and ordered Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door kind of at random recently. Itching for an increase in my somewhat small GameCube collection lately, and I'd been considering getting that game for a while since I've heard a lot of good reviews of it (and I like Mario RPG for SNES quite a bit). Never played it though, so hopefully it was worth getting. I have messed with the original Paper Mario a little recently (on an emulator... >_> *hangs head in shame*) and it seems nice so far, so I assume I'll like the GC game. And then there's still Halo to get back to...
Heh, I'm noticing that I tend to do a lot of rambling in this topic... Probably could've condensed that whole post to "currently playing Zelda: OoT, should be getting Paper Mario: TTYD soon". Heh.
Playing a bit of Sonic Adventure DX / 2: Battle, Advance 1 and 2. Trying to make some Chao really. I have never made a Power Chao. So I am trying that.

O_O but... but!! How does one play Armored Core without a PS2??
Precisely. I'm barely alive at this moment. May God give me strength 'til Christmas. XD
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, I never got all 300 missions, and seeing that I fully completed New Super Mario Bros. about five days ago, I thought it would be the perfect time to start a new file.
I'm currently playing Dragon Quest VIII. I was able to purchase a new copy for $10 courtesy of a Circuit City sale that is going on this week. And if you love RPGs you should be purchasing(or at least trying to find it) right now. It's the best $10 I've spent in awhile. Old school goodness in a Enix+Level 5 packing.
Cor Blimey!
Aw, man, Zero, PM:TTYD is awesome!!!! I loved it and I was truely engrossed in it playing every chance I got. To tell you the true, I will greatly be surprised if you don't enjoy it.
