For the uninformed, Working Designs are the ones who brought Lunar and Lunar 2 to America. It's a shame to see it die.

Dang... I know nothing about Lunar, but they were the ones responsible for bringing over RayStorm and RayCrisis, which are still two of my favorite PlayStation games.

DAMN.

It's not surprising, there's been hardly any activity coming out of their camp for a good long while. But these are the people who paved the way for the likes of Nippon Ichi, Atlus and other companies that felt video gamers outside Japan could do with a little more variety. They will be missed.

WHAT?!?!?!

This is, like, the end of the world... o_o Next they'll be saying Nippon Ichi is going bye bye.

Naah, Nippon Ichi's doing things right now and is enjoying some semblence of popularity, IIRC. Working Designs, though, I haven't heard much about in a while - though admittedly, I've not been actively looking.

Still, this sucks. I've only played one of their translations (Magic Knight Rayearth for the Saturn), but it was a cool one; I'd really like to see some of their other translations at some point or another...

Damn... They're some pretty cool pepple, and Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete is the best damned rpg ever.
But all they did was port Lunar, right? I mean it's not like its dead right? RIGHT!?

Is it wrong that I've never even heard of these guys?

Or indeed any of their work?

I suppose it would be. I've never heard of them either. So we are both going to be ranted at. 😀

Then you guys must be either non-citizens of the US, missed the Sega CD RPG-era, never heard of the Lunar games--or never have been a fan of RPG or shooters.

Truthfully I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner seeing how other 'small' publishers like Atlus and NIS are suprassing them. Though they really had a gooden age in the 16 bit era with their localization being top notch(although some people may argue against this statement).

Also Shadow Hog, their last game released was Growlanser Generations which came out last year.

O_o; I was under the impression they had already gone down.... so yeah this is sort of news to me.

Ah well, they did do great things though. 😀 The Lunar RPGs were flat-out amazing, and the obscure Vay just as good, all for the Sega CD. Sadly, those are the only ones I've had the privilege to play, but considering what others have said though all the others they came out with were just as great.

Great job, Working Designs. **salute!** You will be missed ^^;;

^It's not like Working Designs was the only small publisher picking up Japanese games. Agetec and XSEED also exist and they could pick up future Growlanser games if they choose to.

Meh, I never really bought into SEGA's whole '8 million systems in one decade!' thing, so maybe that's why I've never heard of them.

And I've heard of Lunar, and have never played it, but have had all kinds of nasty hype about it thrown at me by friends, so that sort of ruined the chances of me playing it.

EDIT: This post actually brought to you by Wonderbat.
How I ended up in UltimateShadow1337's account, I'll never know. Actually, he's at my house and stayed logged in, but whatever.

Just noticed, Gamespot has an interview with Victor Ireland on the end of Working Designs, for those interested:
