THQ, the creator of WWE's beloved videogame franchise "SmackDown vs. RAW" has revealed the first details for the 2009 edition.
-- The game will be available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP, PlayStation 2 and mobile devices
-- The biggest change in the action will come with a strong focus on tag teams. Tag teams -- both in and out of Road to WrestleMania -- will utilize the same momentum meter, break opponents with double team finishers and make "hot tags" for the win. For the first time ever, players will be able to team up for co-op storylines in the Road to WrestleMania mode and take advantage of an overhauled tag structure to earn attributes on their way to the top. You can read a 9-page interview with the game developers here where they talk in-depth about the Road to Wrestlemania feature.
-- Also making its debut will be Create-A-Finisher, which allows fans to choose from more than 500 animations in their quest to build the ultimate move.
-- On the 360 and PS3 versions of the game, fans can look for the debut of SVR downloadable content - including downloadable superstars, legends, arenas, outfits, music, movesets and more.
-- On the Nintendo Wii, there will be more match types, more weapons and the debut of online gameplay, which will feature matches and rankings. The Wii version be the only place to find interactive entrances and victory celebrations that range from posing on the ramp to slapping the taste out of a beaten opponent. Get the crowd hyped on your way to the ring for an in-match bonus.
-- On the Nintendo DS version, Gone are the stylus-heavy controls of last year and in their place is a more traditional d-pad/grapple system gamers that have grown up with, although the stylus will still play some part in the action. There will be a season mode with an RPG approach. Players will interact with Superstars, upgrade their abilities and complete missions to become the champion. Create-A-Superstar will make its Nintendo handheld debut, there will be a larger roster of Superstars, and the title will pack a wealth of new match types.
-- So far Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton, Mr. Kennedy, Undertaker and John Cena are confirmed for the game.
After the huge letdown on Smack Down vs Raw, through Smack Down vs Raw 2007 (08 was"eh") all I can say is.
...It better be good!
I still have to play SvR2008. I played '07. It ended too quickly (the story mode, that is).
As for the superstars that are listed in the game, as long WWE doesn't release them (or they decide to take a break -- that would be the case of one Chris Jericho), I'm interested.

08 felt unfinished, while there was some good parts of the game (bit more increase in attributes, few new moves, doesn't take 10 seconds to recover from a punch), but the negatives out way the good (Crappy stroymode, lack of current talent, LACK OF LONDON & KENDRICK!!!) >=(
I am intrigued by the Create A Finisher mode as well as the long overdue attention to the Tag Teams (Cause Lord knows WWE isn't paying attention to them IRL).
The last great WWF/WWE game I remember enjoying was the excellent WWF Wrestlemania The Arcade Game by Midway. Has the newer titles ever reached that level of awesome?... because without Doink and Yokozuna (GOD TIER) I just don't see how they could.
Not a criticism, btw... just a shout out to the old school.

Two (or three?) Words
BOSS-MAN-SLAM! XD
I haven't properly enjoyed a wrestling game since No Mercy on the N64, which is by far the most enjoyable experience in the ring yet.
I'm not particularly looking forward to this, none of the Smackdown games really did anything for me outside there (now out of date) deep Create A Wrestler option, though there are a lot of better ones these days (City of Heroes for one). Unless this really improves the gameplay engine, and incorporates more next gen qualities, then I'm passing this up for TNA Impact, or Firepro if it reaches the UK shores.
Why can't Capcom make another Saturday Night Super Slam?
I hope they really step up the Wii version, because 2008 on Wii was seriously awful. Simplified gameplay, no online, no ladder match, table match, or even a real hardcore match, since the only weapon in the entire thing was a steel chair? Come on. I would've been happier with a port of the more-complete PS2 version.
Better yet, bring back the WWE Day of Reckoning series. Those games were excellent.
THQ to release Legends based Video Game
GWAD MORE 'Legends of Wrestling?'
Normally I would say "Anything is better than that garbage Acclaim put out years ago", but THQ hasn't been 'shinning' for years.
Yeah, double post to inform all that the Inferno Match has been put into SmackDown vs RAW 2009. This is the first time this match has appeared on a SmackDown game (or any WWE game at all)
