That looks sooo cool.
I didn't see anything about when its coming out or the price.
So what are your thoughts on the 360 elite?
...yep, I'm buying a 360...^_^ @ 120GB HDD
...Then again, I bet it's gonna cost a hell of a lot more than a regular X360 premium. Black isn't worth THAT much more.
I like it. I personally have no use for the HDMI cable since my TV only has one HDMI input which is currently being used by my PS3, but I could use the hard drive space. And black on a system rocks. =D
Cindy, my TV only has one HDMI port (I think.) You know how simple it is to just use one cable and switch between two consoles?
What I want to understand is why 20 GB costs $100, whilst the next 100 GB only costs $80. At that price, the 20 GB HDD should only cost a paltry $30.
Yeah, but my HDMI cable's just long enough to reach the TV from where my PS3 is, and the way my cabinet is built, there's no other place I could put my 360 where the cable would be long enough to connect the two. I'll stick with component cables, thanks.
What I want to understand is why 20 GB costs $100, whilst the next 100 GB only costs $80.
In their defence, it is a laptop hard drive so it's going to cost a bit more than a desktop hard drive. Still obscenely overpriced though.
I like the fact that even though it is touted as the Elite of the Xbox 360 line, it still doesn't have Wi-Fi support. $600 PS3, the Wii, the PSP, the DS all have Wi-fi support but none of 360 illeteration does. What?
I think this is a bad move of MS part. Way to confuse potential mainstream buyers with 3 skus now, and possibly bring in the mindshare that the Premium 360 is a gimped product.
NONE of the 360s have Wi-Fi?
Seriously? A Wifi chip costs like ten bucks. o_o
Actually the 360 adaptor costs like $100. Yet another overpriced part!
No, I meant the cost for Microsoft to just build it in.
Fair enough, but I can't imagine their method of choice would cost all that much more, despite currently costing the consumer that much more.
For reference, the Elite model will cost you $479US. Sounds like they're adding several nice features though, such as the 120GB hard drive and HDMI output. Wireless doesn't concern me at all, my console sits right next to my router already, so I'd rather stay wired.
And it's so purty... I'm at least buying a black controller when they become available.
Ah, the 360 Elite, aka the "Hey there, Holiday Premium 360 buyers! Have a free kick to the balls!" Being in that group myself, I have only this to say: F*** you, Microsoft.
Now if they'd only release a black Wii, I can have all my next gen systems in black...
And it's STILL cheaper than a PS3...I hate you Sony...
Yeah, I'll probably grab a couple of those black controllers and headsets.

Oh my god, just stop. Seriously, cut it the hell out. This is not a Sony thread. Keep the brainless Sony bashing in the 'brainless Sony-bashing' threads.
Actually, I've been thinking about the price comparisons to the PS3 and this new 360 SKU, and all things considered... the PS3 might actually be marginally cheaper given what's inside it compared to what's inside the Elite. Of course, if you don't give a crap about next-gen disc formats (and I don't until the clear winner is determined - it looks like Blu Ray is catching on, but it's not to the point that I'd call it a "clear winner" yet), then yeah, the 360's cheaper, and has a more proven selection of games, excluding backwards compatibility (eg: Gears, Dead Rising, pretty much everything on XBLA, et al.) - but otherwise, although you get half the HDD space and need to buy an HDMI cable separately, the 60GB PS3 is, what, $80 cheaper?
I know, the PS3 actually being CHEAPER than the 360? No way, that's impossible, Mario and Sonic'd be showing up in games together before that'd happen.
Oh, wait...

Merely making an initial observation and being angst that the PS3 is out of my current monetary amount...we can do that, can we not?
There's no reason why not beyond the fact that most of the internet has gone anti-Sony, so those that remain loyal no longer accept anything anti-Sony said anywhere out of bounds.
No, it's just spam. If I posted a bunch of posts about Mario in South Island, it'd be spam. Why? Because the discussion is on Sonic, and I'm posting something else.
Same applies to posting about Sony in a thread about Microsoft. It isn't like he's making a comparison, like SH does, he's just posting "I HATE SONY" anywhere, like what I'd expect on IGN or GameFaqs.
Your point?
It's becoming impossible to moderate these topics without looking like you're taking a side :<
Let's just get back on track with the new 360, shall we, and keep PS3-related comments to a bare minimum?
I like the black scheme more than the original white, but I dunno if I'm too interested in the console - as I've said before, it's gonna be a long time before I consider HD, and I dunno how I feel about a 120GB harddrive - how well does the space in a 20GB harddrive hold out? I barely use anything near to 120GB even on my computer.
My current plan is to get a Core and grab a hard drive seperately, since I don't need all the wireless controllers etc (I don't sit far enough from the console to warrant wireless, and I have a wireless receiver already that I had to pick up for my Xbox. I'll just use that.), and as I've said I've no need for HD. It works out cheaper all together than Premium, so yeah.
Apparently the 20GB does fill quickly, THS. Then again I heard this from an X360 Elite sales site, so I don't know how accurate that is. I'll probably end up with a Premium unless they still have the black ones after a few price drops. I don't like the white consoles - I've never owned a console that wasnt black, from my N64 to my PS2 to my GC to the PS3. It goes well with the furniture of my room (black TV cabinet, desk, and computer desk, with silver computer and TV and DVD player).
So what does chew through all that memory so quickly? I know sports games are notorious memory eaters...
My brother has a bunch of sport games on our 360 and with everything else that we have on the 360 we've only used 1gb.We don't have any downloaded stuff though, just game savings. But I don't know how fast it would go through for those who do download a lot of stuff.
Apparently the 20GB does fill quickly, THS.
Microsoft puts a bunch of stuff on there, so it comes with about 8 gigs already used up. After that, while it does not exactly fill up on its own apart from the occasional small game update, the various voluntary downloads (arcade games, videos, demos, etc) can fill it up pretty quick. Especially the HD movies, basically you can only fit one of those on there at a time. Merely playing games that you buy at the store won't fill it up, as most of them simply store a bit of temporary cache data on there to shorten load times as you play.

Don't know if it's different where you live, but over here the cost of the Core system+hard drive works out to be the same as the Premium system.
And although 20GB has been fine for me so far, I do have a decent chunk of space used up with demos. If I were downloading TV shows and movies, I'd definitely run out of space fast. Plus I though something was said a while back about a service coming out at some point that would allow you to use your 360 like a DVR to record TV. And I expect 20GB wouldn't last long doing that.
The 20GB is filled in like, a month, for anyone who uses Xbox Live Marketplace.
On average in the UK, it's cheaper to get a Core and a hard drive. I've seen the Core being sold for as little as 150 before (although that was a Play.com offer and seems to have gone now :<), and the hard drive ranges around 60-70. The Premium sells for around 250, IIRC. That said, in my local Gamestation, they have an offer on for a Core, a hard drive and 2 games for 245. Not shabby, but too bad I want to hold out a bit longer before getting one. At least it could always go down further.
For some reason, i get the feeling I won't use the marketplace much - I might not even get a Live Gold account straight away. The TV show on your console concept doesn't truly appeal to me, and I don't think I'll be taken in much by arcade-style games on offer. Really I won't know until I get a look at it, but you know, such as it seems now.
Nice, wouldn't have minded just getting the Core+HDD myself if I could've gotten a decent deal on it. I've found that the wireless controller is pretty nice though, even though I don't really need wireless. (and already have a wired pad originally bought for my PC) And now that I have an Xbox Live account, it's nice to already have the headset.
Speaking of Xbox Live, just for reference, the majority of the stuff on the Xbox Live Marketplace (arcade games, TV shows, etc.) can be purchased and downloaded using a free Xbox Live Silver account as well. Aside from a few exclusives that usually end up available to all later, the only major difference between Gold and Silver is the ability to play games online.
i didn't think I was going to use the Marketplace at first either, but the Live Arcade has some great original stuff on there (as opposed to old arcade hits) that is SO worth the download. Assault Heroes, Alien Hominid, Geometry Wars, Worms... not to mention old stuff like Symphany of the Night and the TMNT arcade game. And all for about $10 US or less.
... too much win for words...
Planning on doing something similar to THS. Managed to get an Xbox 360 core for 199 + 6 p&p (140) from amazon germany (was 199 on amazon.co.uk o_o). Only difference was the plug, which was easily swapped with a standard pc "kettle" lead. Since I don't have a HD tele, don't sit far enough away from the tele nor will be using xbox live anytime soon the core pack seemed the best and cheapest option for me.
Eh. I don't spend money in the Playstation Store and I won't in the Xbox Live Marketplace.
For anyone who does use it, how much stuff do they have for free (like, demos - I love demos that are essentially a game with one level)? PSN has a lot, in fact, a huge majority of their stuff atm is free. And the classic PS1 games are $5, not $10.

TONS of demos and stuff. If it's an XBLA game, it's guaranteed to have a demo (it's kinda mandatory); otherwise, even some bigger-name games that actually come on discs have demos up on the marketplace. Some even come on the hard drive (I believe ours came with Tomb Raider Legend, among other things). Now, not EVERY game has a demo (Oblivion, for instance, but then, can ANY demo do that game justice?), but a fairly good percentage does.
Ah, the 360 Elite, aka the "Hey there, Holiday Premium 360 buyers! Have a free kick to the balls!" Being in that group myself, I have only this to say: F*** you, Microsoft.
Hence why most people abbreviate it M$.
As for having 3 trim levels, I thought they were going to kill off the core system because no one was buying it and drop the price of the Premium?

Hi there, DS Lite and GBA SP! (and possibly to a lesser extent since in these cases the changes were merely aesthetic, PSOne and Slimline PS2)
THS, you forgot the Micro >> shame
EDIT: and the NES II and the SNES II... and the GB Pocket (and the GB Light)...
Hell, only the N64 and Cube didn't have redesigns...
GBMicro was funny because the DS cost as much.
Not to mention it didn't play GBC-and-earlier games (as per the DS), whilst the cheaper SP did.
To this day, I'll never understand the reasoning behind the Micro.
Has anyone happened to hear anything about whether or not a wired black controller will be released with the other black accessories? I decided to email Microsoft about it, but the geniuses there can't seem to figure out what I'm asking. >_<
In my first email I said that I knew black wireless controllers would be available separately, and was wondering if there would be black wired controllers available as well. The person responded with a list of all the accessories that will be included in the Elite package, and mentioned "separate accessories are also available for the Xbox 360 Elite".
Which basically tells me nothing I didn't already know.
So in an attempt to clarify my question, I responded with the following:
"Thanks for the information, but that wasn't quite what I wanted to know. As you mentioned, the black wireless controller will also be sold separately, in addition to being included with the Xbox 360 Elite system. So I just wanted to know, will there be a black wired controller sold separately as well? I know that there will be no wired controller included with the Elite system, but I'd like to purchase a wired controller in black if they become available separately."
And today I got an email response from someone else saying, "It is advised that you call the Xbox Customer Support number".
ARRRGH. It's a simple yes or no question, people! >_< RAAR.
So yeah, anyone else happen to have any details on this?
Well whatever you do don't call xbox customer support. They don't know anything. And I personally know this.
I went searching for info on it but didn't see anything. so my guess is that there won't be one
Why do you need WIRED specifically, though? Wireless is pretty much better in every way, shape and form.
The answer you got was so vague because it's a form letter automatically generated by a cold, soulless robot. It's directing you to the fleshy warm meatbags at Customer Service because it doesn't understand your second inquiry. Just call the number. They will probably have a straight answer and it's not like it costs anything.
I like your wording. I just may call the number out of boredom and curiosity, and because I'd like to go buy a white controller now if I know for sure black isn't coming.

Wireless is definitely great, but still I like wired sometimes. The wire doesn't bother me, and it's nice to not have to worry about having batteries charged or anything. It just works all the time.
More importantly, I have a wired controller currently that I use a lot on my PCs. I've been considering buying a second one for a while now, so I don't have wear out this one by moving it from my main PC to my laptop all the time. It'd be much easier to have one to keep with the laptop all the time.
So if they are going to release one in black, I'd gladly wait and get that, but if not, I'd rather just buy a second white one now. I have yet to see any info about a wired black controller though, so I'm guessing it won't be happening. But I'd like to know for sure before buying a white one.
EDIT: I decided to go ahead and call their support number. After talking to the incredibly stupid automated system that fails miserably in it's attempts to sound 'cool and casual', I talked to an actual fleshy warm meatbag who checked and said that there isn't a wired version coming out that he knows of. Raar. At least I know there's no point in waiting to buy a second white one now. But I wants it in black...
Sure would be nice if it happens at some point. Especially since with their "Games for Windows" thing, all games released under that automatically support the 360 controller, and I'm sure there are plenty of PC gamers who would want a black controller to match their fancy black cases and stuff.
EDIT 2: Some more details about the Elite from those who have disected one:
That site's right on one thing. What they did to the CPU/GPU to try and fix the Three Red Lights Of Death is funny.
by july i should have one O:

If it's that big of a deal, why not just put up the extra ten bones for the black wireless controller? You can still make it work with your PC using this thing.
I do plan to buy a black wireless controller at some point actually, but I'd prefer wired for my PC since I don't want to bother with keeping things charged when I carry it with my laptop. And more importantly, the third-party drivers I use with the controller aren't working with the wireless one currently, last I heard. And I don't want to be stuck with the crappy Microsoft drivers for the thing.
Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun trying to turn a wired controller black myself, even though I haven't been successful yet. My first attempt has resulted in a freaky weird brown thing with an almost camouflage pattern to it. It sure isn't the black I was going for, but it's certainly unique if nothing else. I may be trying it again with another wired controller eventually, just to see if I can get it to turn black.
For anyone curious, I posted pictures of my weirdo experiment here (a couple posts down):
What did you do to that poor innocant xbox 360 controller?!!!
