I haven't seen a topic like this so I guess I'll post it. Who are your 5 favorite video characters doesn't which game or game series.
My favorite are:

Hmm, lets see...it'd have to be:

Big the Cat(hands down, he's just so cool)
Vyse the Blue Rogue
Gannondorf
Max (Shining Force 1)
Slade (Shining Force 2)

...Man, that's not cool. 5 is hard to think of. but oh well, those 5 are good. No perticular order, they are all just cool.

In no specific order let me randomize a list.

1) Roy of Fire Embelm fame.
2) Geno of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - a doll that kicks ass. What else do you need?
3) The Black Mage from the Final Fantasy series.
4) Kilik of Soul Caliber fame.
5) Dr. Killjoy from The Suffering - hes a hologram, hes creepy, and a guide at the begining. But a enemy at the end. So cool.

1)Cloud Strife(FF7)
2)Link(Zelda series) <--No brainer ^^
3)Sora(Kingdom Hearts series)
4)Nathan Zachery (Crimson Skies)
5)Captain Davenport A.K.A."Chopper" (Ace Combat 5)

Eeek... Ummm.... Let me think...

1 - Dante (Devil May Cry series): Dante is just so bad-ass. ^^

2 - Reala (NiGHTS): He doesn't speak. He just looks scary.

3 - Shadow (Sonic series): Yes, I love our little mister ansgty. Any problems with that?

4 - Yoshi (Mario series): I just love my little Yoshi!

This last one was the hardest, as there were so many characters vying for this spot, but in the end, it could only go to one... The only...

5 - GITAROO MAN! (Gitaroo Man): If you've played Gitaroo Man then there is no need to explain this... I must admit though, that Zowie (GM's nemesis) is LITERALLY only 0.0000000000000000000000000001% behind Gitaroo Man for 5th spot.

2) Kasumi (Dead Or Alive)

3) Naked Snake (MGS 3)

4) Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy 7)

5) Ryu (Street Fighter series)

That took some thought. I have so many favourites.

No Order, I may put more than 5 because i just cant choose, too many.
Scorpion (MK Series) GET OVER HERE!!! come one back in the days where sound bytes werent common that was legendary.

Tina Armstrong (DOA Series) Dont look at me. I'll destroy you. As Tina. Take that.

Nightmare (Soul Calibur Series) such a cool character.

Eggman (Sonic Series) Villians are good. That sentence should confuse us all but inside we are all Eggman.

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) Yes, it all seems so 90's now but she is still a good character. sarky character, impressive use of guns and shes chosen Toby Gard over Money. always a good sign. (image in my mind i'm afraid)

right better post before i sprawl a lot of characters.

In no order,

Sora(KH)- An overall cool character, sometimes he acts kind of stupid, but you gotta love the keyblade. <3

Link(LOZ)- What's not to like about him?

Sonic- Obvious.

Kazooie(Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie)- A Red-Crested Breegull that lives in a backpack attatched to a bear, with an attitude to boot? Randomness!

The Line Brick(Tetris)- Never there when you needed it, always there when you didn't, a REAL character.

In no particular order, along with Neo Yi's traditional yammering:

1.) Vivi Ornitier, FF9: It's pretty obvious I put him in the list. The kid is not only super-freakin'-adorable-to-the-max-times-ten, his story makes you feel exceedingly sorry for him. Sure, he has the tendency to angst and whine which is a personality trait I cannot stand, but he makes it all up by being innocent, kind, and pure of heart. He doesn't go all anti-social and wish to be alone to write goth poetry everytime there's a problem. He tries to be upbeat and confidence, positive as can be. He tries and ultimately succeeds. He's the true hero to me in FFIX.

2.) Luigi, Goopleplex of Mario Series:
I've been playing as Luigi since I was 5, that's about a good 14 years or so of playing as the second brother. Topped that with the Mario cartoon I grew up with and I instantly became a fan of Luigi. Aside from being the WAY hotter brother then Mario, he's personality of being mostly the underrated man is what probably relates to me the most (that and I'm usually into underrated people). He was my first fave Video Game character and my first game crush, and after 14 years of liking him, it's obvious why he's on the list.

3.) Ganondorf (Wind Waker version): Up until I did play WW, I didn't care much for Ganon other then the fact that he was the final boss I had to beat to save Hyrule. When I reached Ganon in WW for the final showdown the first time, I was rather intrigued on his depressing speech, and even more so after that sword stuck to his head and he uttered his last words. I just had this small feeling of guilt and pity. Afterwards, after beating Ganon again for the umpteeth time, I realize I felt so much for this man, so much pity. He had so much character and personality that his Ocarina of Time persona lacked. I now have profound respect for Ganon.........plus, he's the perfect combo of cute and hot, the Wind Waker one, that is.

4.) Sora, Kingdom Hearts: This kid touched my heart the first time I played him. Overally curious and naive to the world due to his young age, but not enough to annoy me with his constant "huh's?", and mature beyond his years, this child never quits. Even during the scenes in Hollow Bastion where he confronts Riku, he never gets himself down. He manages to pick himself up and go about saving the world. He never quits and has a lot of faith. Being an overally nice person helps, too. Inspiring kid.

5.) Crash Bandicoot, CB Series: If some of you know me, my biggest pet peeve in video games are characters who are mute (unless they have a reason, too), yet I adore Crash. There has been VERY rare moments where he has spoken (no, those Pizza Hut commercials don't count), but he mostly keeps his yap shut. So, what makes me so entranced by this character? Simple, himself. His wide face expresses emotions to indicate how he feels. The way he (clumsily) moves and acts show what kind of guy he is; a dippy, bit dumb, clever, agile, yet lovable bandicoot. In a world of mute characters I cannot stand, Crash stands above all with his use of expressions and body motions, giving him more personality then most game characters who CAN speak yet produce little to no charming personality. Although, that still doesn't deteriorate the fact that I still wanna hear him speak...

Hmm okay this is probably in order...

5.Yuna (FF 10): She and Tidus are two of my absolute favorite FF characters but Tidus goes first for various reasons. I loved her look and outfit and her personality was okay too, except when she married Seymour (Ack!) and yes the kiss scene between her and Tidus was the BEST FMV in a FF game yet. I hate her FF X-2 version though...

4. Tidus (FF 10) I know most of you HATE the guy but I love his personality. It was a change from the angst filled losers of the past two FF games and you had to dig his sports background. That and he has one of the coolest finishing attacks ever. Blitz Ace rules...

3. Kirby: His games may be kiddish but he still rules. I first fell in love with his games when reading walkthroughs of them in NP. I have played almost all of the Kirby games and enjoy them all...plus the guy is just so fun to play in SSBM...

2. Sonic/Knuckles: They don't have any Knuckles shirts (DARN YOU PEOPLE) but I have plenty of Sonic shirts but I just love both characters. I have been a fan of Sonic since I first played Sonic 1 over a relative's house....waaaaay back in 91 when I was like 5 or 6...oh and the introduction of Knux in Sonic 3 topped the cake...for various other reasons...

1. Rena Lanford (Star Ocean 2): Okay everyone who knows me knows this is my absolute favorite character. Yes her personality is cliche but darn it, I don't care! I love her look and her personality is a okay by me. Okay there...I've yammered enough...

I'll probably hammer you people with thumbnails of them all...and an EXTRA BIG thumbnail of Tidus...

This is a tricky one...*Thinks*

1. Wario
Best anti-hero ever, he loots treasure, picks his nose, eats anything, and is so darn lazy, just the type of character you don't expect from Nintendo. Brilliant.

2. Sparkster (Rocket Knight Adventures)
Awesome character, they really should bring him back...

3. Sonic The Hedgehog
He's just cool.

4. Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid series)
The gun spinning is awesome, and his life is one big soap opera...

5.Eagle (Advance Wars series)
He says cool things, he looks cool, just all round coolness

Other characters include: Metal Sonic, loads of pokemon, Link, Emerl, Kratos or any ToS character, Snake, Vamp, loads of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars characters...Yeh, lots. o.o

And there you have it.

*Pats* Agreed, the more I think about Zidane the more I think he was the best lead character, he wasn't angsty, he wasnt badass, and he wasn't some fully train soldier, he's a laid back, womanizing, cheerful rogue, and one of the best FF characters to date. :) Just cause he didn't have and Omnislash or special sword people think he's useless T-T ......

...Anyway...I have to put my list as two, Heroes and Villains, mainly because I have favourite on both sides who I don't want to top one and other.

Heroes

1. Sonic: Since I was five, Sonic has been my favourite character, though he hasn't really been greatly portrayed in the comics and cartoons, when I was five, six, seven, or however old I was then, I cared more for what he did in them. Nowadays I love his personality, living simply for adventure, and saving the day as he does.

2. Chun Li: The first character in a fighter (other than Mortal Kombat) that I could win with, I love her look, her fighting style, her grace and agility, Street Fighter 3 features my favourite interpretation of her, all the above, but with indescribable animation, and very strong also.

3. Solid Snake/Naked Snake: In MGS1, he was superbly acted, probably the first game to feature such excellent voice work, at least on home consoles anyway. David Hayter made polygons live, not forgetting the rest of the cast, but since he has continued to play the role three more times (If Twin Snakes was completely acted all over again that is), and has made the character of Solid snake, and now Big Boss, stand out like no other of its peers in the genre.

4. Cammy White: Yes, a second Street Fighter character, I'd place her equal with Chun Li if I had liked her for as long. I really like her designs, fighting style, and personality; she can be both a cute character and a ferocious one. I love playing as her, using her speeded attacks and brilliant moves to crush my friends (who, before seeing me beat them with her, thought she was rubbish). Plus she loves cats. =^-^=

5. Sub Zero (the second): Since MK1 I've loved the Lin Kuei ice Warrior, but only because I learned how to fight as him before any other fighting character, but then I followed the MK story and mythos, I love the second Sub Zero's story, from his start in MK2, his betrayal to his clan and their soul enslaving ideals and his battles against former friends and comrades in MK3, his final battle with Scorpion in MK4, his recreation of his clan to ascend to the rank of Grand Master in Deadly Alliance, and the discovery his heritage and a familiar face in Deception. I've loved every moment of it.

Villains

1. Dr EGGMAN Robotnik: If you couldn't guess beforehand, I'd have to cry. As my username gives away, I am an Eggman fan, but only in the SEGASonic version (plus the OVA). The classic version had a supremely humourous and even cute design for a villain, made to look more comical, but I still love it, for those reasons too. But the real reason I love Eggman is Deem Bistrow and SA2. Much in the same way that I love Snake, Deem Bristow created an incredible character from his acting, he was menacing, ingenious, insane, and at times, very honourable, he displayed the character of a bad guy, who wasn't all that evil.

2. M. Bison: A truly awesome evil from Street Fighter, I love playing as him in Capcom VS SNK, he's powerful, fast, and has a big evil grin like no other. Plus, I have to ask, has anyone faced him in Street Fighter Alpha 3's world tour mode the second time, when he has infinite Special power? He becomes far too cheap T-T....

3. Gannondorf: Mainly the Wind Waker version due to his Bison like grin, twin swords, and his classy beard. He's a fantastic bad guy, he's like a god to the Zelda series, well, a devil really, but he's immortal pretty much throughout.

4: Revolver Ocelot: Ignoring the ghost arm stuff, Ocelot is a superb character, his gun juggling, fast shooting and brilliant design and voice acting make him one of my top characters.

5: Metal Sonic: The second best villain in the series, he was the perfect Sonic copy, cold, emotionless, and driven by his failures; I'd love to see him used properly.

Other mentions:

The entire cast of Tales of Symphonia (I love them all ^^).
Felicia, I love catgirls, and I love 2D fighters, win win situation for me.
And nearly everyone (but not Necrid or Charade) from Soul Calibur.
Well, that's my list, sorry it's so long.

That's your opinion. I loved it and perfer it to other FF games that I have played.

Yeah, he had a freaking tail. How interesting and useful. But alas, this isn't a Final Fantasy 9 debate topic, so I will now proceed to STFU.

So, because he has a tailm it automatically means FF9 sucks? I hope you have a much better reason then this.

No, that was Zidane as a character. The game sucked because it was boring, monotonous and horrendously poorly written.

But as I said this isn't an FF9 debate topic so I'm not furthering this.

Kratos from God of War- He automatically pwns all because he rips people in half by their arms.

Some other honorable mentions of honor in no particular order include:

Nightmare from Soul Calibur: Did someone say "GIANT DEMON SWORD"?
Cervantes from Soul Calibur: Evil Zombie Pirate with twin Gunswords. 'Nuff said.
Metal Sonic- Like Sonic, but a robot with a rocket booster in his torso. And that automatically makes him cooler.Plus he rules in SA2B 2-player.
Bowser- Ah yes, just have to give props to the evil fire-breathing dino-turtle.
Falco Lombardi- The requisite badass of any game, AND he wears a slick bomber jacket. Need I say more?
Gordon Freeman- Crowbar. Gravity Gun. GORDON WINS, M'KAY?
G-Man- Just creepy enough to be cool.
Solid Snake- Dunno why. He's just cool.
Ryu from Ninja Gaiden- He's a ninja, so he automatically qualifies.
Link- He's a girlish-looking elf with no personality, but people adore him. Go figure. Plus he pwns at SSBM and looks bitchin' in the new game.
Wario- Ask HIM why he's on this list. Go on.
Cortez from TimeSplitters- Something about the goggles.
Fawful from Mario & Luigi:Superstar Saga- Gotta love the little quasi-Yoda talking guy. plus having the guts to wear a flying laser-shooting vacuum cleaner on your head makes you cool in my book.
Cloud- He sort of has an air of cool around him with no real reason. Too bad he's a total @#%$ in KH.
Sephiroth- See "Cloud".
Vivi/Any black mage- Black mages rule.
The OTHER Kratos(ToS)- Another Badass-type guy, And he has an actual character, but his alternate outfit totally blows.
