I recently got Wolfenstein 3d for the GBA (that I play on my DS) and I've been playing it insanely wherever I am. Yet, reviews everywhere never realy cared much for it. But I think, that it's grand to play some games that I loved so much durring their reign on the PC world, and now it's on the freaking go. o.0 May not be too amazing by todays standards, but the nostalgia is just too powerful for me. Anyone else have similar feelings to a game or two? (I had TONS on the PC)

Wolfenstein 3-D was pretty good, I suppose... I might get it for the Super Nintendo tomorrow or something. A store nearby has it! Of course, it looks like utter crap for the Super Nintendo but I believe it adds some weapons and other features. When Wolfenstein 3-D was made for the Gameboy Advance, they should have based it off a better version of Wolfenstein 3-D instead of the old DOS one. Some remakes of Wolfenstein 3-D for non-DOS systems would sometimes add new levels, new weapons and... New stuff.
Yep, id Software made one heck of a game, pretty much starting the entire first-person-shooter business. Speaking of id Software, they made the game I want to post in here; DOOM.
I've already gotten enough crap from TheCycle on how DOOM is so "outdated" and how we should all "play something better." I've been playing DOOM online for just a few days, but it's so addictive, I don't know when I'll stop. It's fun going back to those DOOM levels with other marines at my side instead of me against Hell itself. If you haven't seen it, I already made a topic about MoFoers getting together and playing DOOM online.
Ever since it went open source years ago, hundreds and hundreds of modifications have been made for DOOM, including one called WolfenDOOM that recreates the entire Wolfenstein 3-D game onto the DOOM engine, making it run better, look better and play better. Getting it to work is a real challenge that I haven't overcome, though. :nn;
So, yeah. Two great id Software games that really are unloved and overlooked.

Toshinden Subaru! XD Sonic R! And that's about it that I can think of so far. o_O Sonic R may be loved by a number of people here but the reviews I've seen for it aren't very good..

Was Wolfenstein 3d really unloved? I thought it was fairly revolutionary. I mean, Sandra Bullock is playing it in the background during the movie "The Net".

My favorite un-loved game is Silver. It's just....fun. Can't explain it more than that.

Hrmm... most of the games I own HAVE gone down very well with the critics, so this'll be a hard one to say...

Uh... maybe Atomic Bomberman? Glover (well, on the off-chance that it actually RUNS... WITHOUT crashing...)? Earthworm Jim 3D (well, kinda)? Certainly Sonic R. Yeah, stuff like that.

*waits for somebody to say Sonic Heroes, it's inevitable*

Hmmm...Mortal Kombat Mythologies is the only one I can think of, you probably won't find a kind word for it from a reviewer, but I kinda' like it.

Hard to pick just one...

Sonic Shuffle - It truely is great fun. The mini games beat Mario Party's selecion ten fold. And you have to love using the Eggman card and him saying "Hee hee hee, what evil invention should I use this time?" Classic.

Another overlooked game is Lost Kingdoms (GC), it got OK reviews, but hasn't really stood out as having a large fanbase, it's an awesome mix of real-time card battling and a bit of platforming. Summon skeletons as your foot soldiers, use sword cards, or just summon the white tiger and destroy everything on screen. And the story wasn't all in your face, it was 100% pure gaming gold, the story was just there if you wanted it, and it was a pretty good storyline too.

...Makes me woner why I sold that game. o.O *Makes note to buy it again, and the sequel at the next oppurtunity*

The Revenge of Shinobi, for the GBA. While it's no where near as good as it's Genesis brother I still enjoyed plenty of parts of this game. Even if you simply just hack and slash your way through the levels moving from left to right. The music was also a plus and another redeeming factor for it's repetitive gameplay, which I must admit can get kind of stale at times. Other than that I still had a good time playing this game.

I also liked Sonic R, which most others at this board like too. From the reviews I read most critics didn't like the game as much, so it goes on the list too.

I guess I was unclear. ^^; The game was loved to the max on the PC, but the GBA port didn't seem to create much of a splash. ^^;

Bust-A-Move is a puzzler that never got the recognition it deserved from critics. I thought the characters were cute, the play control solid, and the concept was simple yet fun and addictive. I also liked Wario's Woods- a bizarre crossover concept that worked.

There's no question. Kabuki Quantum Fighter! It exists, I tell you! It was an awesome game, but whenever I go to look for it, people look at me like I'm insane.

It is very, very unloved. ;__;

Tails2K, it's been over ten years since the original Wolf3D. Can't imagine it making much of a splash nowadays.

I'd say Bubsy and Bubsy 2 for the Genesis...I don't know why all the critics hate the games but they are real fun...

Critics also didn't care for the King of Fighters games for the PS2 but I liked them...

Tail Concerto: Damn, I love this game. It's filled with irrestible charm.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (N64) is also my choice even though I got stuck in the Prison of Souls level because I couldn't figure out how to work the elevators - LOL!

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

It's actually pretty well reviewed, but it was never very widespread. I LOVE this game. What'sb etter, is pretty much anyone with a computer can play it - it's a real old game, like Rollercoaster Tycoon but a little older.

One game that didn't seem to get a lot of attention, or wasn't as liked as other games, even within its own genre, was StarTropics.

StarTropics borrowed from the Zelda franchise a bit, using a gameplay engine that bears some striking similarities to the first Zelda game. That's not exactly a bad thing, though; the game provided some entertaining, and even mildly challenging boss fights to go along with the many puzzles that you need to solve, and mazes you'll need to navigate (the whale). In addition to providing some tight gameplay, it was just so fun to play the game and watch the story unfold before your very eyes, one that will captivate you until the very end, culminating in one last grueling battle against the alien leader, Zoda.

Zoda's Revenge, the sequel, delivered more of the same, but polished up the gameplay a bit, and of course helped bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion. In addition, you get to take a trip down memory lane in the game's final, conclusive chapter, and it was a trip I thoroughly enjoyed.

Any one played Advent Rising? That game is awesome. Yeah, it was a little short but I think it was worth it. There was a planned trilogy but Advent Rising did so terrible in sells that I guesse they didn't want to finish. It's a real shame.

Did I ever post in this thread? Hard to tell, now. Oh well, I guess I'll add my favorite-but-otherwise-quite-unloved-by-the-general-masses games.

-Clash at Demonhead (NES): Bit of a run-of-the-mill sidescrolling shooter-type, but with very colorful (i.e. Japanese) graphics and animations. Story was incredibly bizarre, involving a terrorist group populated by mutants and undead. Bit unique for its time because rather than split the game up by stages, it incorporated a map system and multiple (sometimes hidden) routes that you can traverse in any direction. wiki

-The Guardian Legend (NES): Forgotten? Yes. Unloved? Well, ask anyone who's played it and you'll get the requisite HELL NO as a response. TGL (lulz) was in essence a combo overhead Zelda-like adventure and a vertical "schmup", in one. Solid graphics and a great score. You play a female android sent from Earth with a mission to stop a giant satellite from colliding with the planet. You do this by travelling the "overworld", collecting power-ups by defeating enemies or buying them in scattered, sometimes hidden shops. You also collect keys, that open up the rest of the space station piece by piece, eventually giving you access to "corridors" where the shoot-em-up portion of the game takes over. wiki

That's all for now.

NES's Nightmare on Elm Street. Downloaded a rom some time back, and found it enjoyable for some reason. Even though it's a terrible game.

FFVIII I actually enjoyed it even though most people say it's extremely cliche. I can't argue that, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I did like Sonic Heroes a little bit though...
