The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has been delayed well into next year.

Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo's VP of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, sent out an email to the press stating: "After much discussion, the Zelda development team has requested extra time to add new levels, more depth and even higher quality to Zelda: Twilight Princess. Consequently, we're announcing a new global launch in 2006, after the conclusion of this fiscal year (March 31). We'll provide a specific date at a later point in time. While this may come as a disappointment to many eager fans, it will absolutely enrich the game and make it a multi-million seller."

This means that the game will be released anytime after April 1st.

This pleases me. The Wind Waker suffered from a strict deadline, this time around it looks like the team is being allowed to give everything they've got to the game.

I feel just about the same, man. Wind Waker was horribly short (even with the crack whore quest for the Tri-Force shards, which was more of a distraction from, rather than, gameplay), hopefully we'll be seeing a game on the scale of OoT.

*Crosses fingers*

Ah well, that's my Christmas out for winter, though it is good to here that Zelda will be getting the treatment it deserves. Here's hoping it brings the Gamecube back to life for it's last hours.

To be honest, I'm glad. Even Eiji Aonuma (the producer) was disappointed with how Wind Waker turned out. To quote what he said in Edge magazine a few months ago:

[With regards to Wind Waker's shortness/unfinishedness]: "I think that that's my fault. To tell the truth, originally we were thinking about something bigger, and in order to make it on time we had to make it more compact-sized. But even though I say compact, we were trying our best so that we could entertain people enough. That was our intention and I thought that we could do that. But if people feel that way, that was my fault for lack of effort, and of course when it comes the new Legend of Zelda, I really don't want to have that kind of impression from the players."

Ocarina of Time essentially had a three year development cycle; I hope they give Twilight Princess as long as it needs.

I'm really relieved, actually. I mean, they can better perfect the game then hastily put it out as they said they did with Wind Waker (I still love that game though), and I won't have to worry about so much money spending between either this or Kingdom Hearts II, so I'm really relieved.

I loved Wind Waker, but it was way too short.

I hope this isn't. :[

I hope TP also has a marginal amount of challenges. As in "not-frustrating-Water-Temple-of-evilness" challenge, but challenging enough. I love Wind Waker, too, but I found it to be too easy, no amount how easy the final boss fight was.

Well, we can't always guarantee that a delayed game will always be good, but I trust Nintendo 100% in just about every game they do.

Nintendo have only really disappointed me once (Starfox Adventures -- but they more than made up for it with Assault ^^ ).

Now, I liked Wind Waker, but I agree with you guys... it was much too short. Hopefully they'll use this time to continue to make Twilight Princess better and better ^^ I'm sure the same thing that happened with Starfox will happen with Zelda. 😀

The best part is, it has 50 Cent as Epona, Richard Simmons as Tingle, and Reggie Fils-Aime as THE MAN!

...no, I don't know what kind of practical joke they're holding over at IMDb... but I wouldn't mind Reggie being in the game as THE MAN, myself...

I didn't think SFA was all that bad...sure it was basically a furry Zelda but have the Zelda games been boring...but yea still Fox deserves more games like Star Fox Assualt...

too short? it took me forever. but i'll agree that it was a good game.

Star fox adventures wasn't that bad. it wasn't, well, your typical star fox game, but it was still good. you should try it.

The last boss fight was a rip-off.

what? of star fox adventures? yeah, i know. but enough about that. it isn't a "starfox adventures" topic. it is a zelda topic, so let's talk about that.

if they are working with the graphics, there was probably a big problem with that. it may have been small, but they are perfectionists. it'll be awesome no matter when it is released, though.

Personally, I didn't find Wind Waker compelling enough to finish. The idea of going on a vast "sail around the world tracking down Tri-force pieces" really didn't appeal to me, and so I decided not to bother with the whole venture.

Still, hopefully giving Twilight Princess time for development will result in something whic maintains interest more, like the other 3D Zeldas did (can't comment on 2D Zeldas, since I haven't really played them...)

if you get the emulater for NES, you should really try the first one(the second one wasn't as good). plus the GB & GBA ones are cool too.

Why do you have to emulate it? I have the real cartridge in my bedroom. It's okay, but the later ones are much better, IMO.

Come to think of it, the last boss fight in the Wind Waker was a rip-off, too. Waaaaaay too easy.

I admit after the first time I manage to beat the last boss in Wind Waker, it grew easy, but I LOVED it to bits. It felt so much like I was sparring one on one with my sword. It felt very intense to me and easily chalks up there as one of my fave last boss battles...

....Plus, the last boss is a hot/cute guy, so there.

It did seem like a clash between equals, the final Boss of the Wind Waker...
Which made it even harder than fighting a giant monster, you werent looing for a weakpoint you just had to beet him in a one on one sparring match.

You had to be GENIUNELY better than him, not just wait for him to expose his weakness and THEN attack.

Loved it to bits :spin

I think my most favorite reaction was this one moment when I was doing a parry. Usually Ganon falls under my parry attacks, but at one point, he blocked it, so I was all like, "Oh, crap! He blocked it! He friggin' blocked it". I wasn't angry, but excited. He blocked it again afterwards. Just shows there's more to him then meets the eye even after I've fought him countless time (I cannot stress how much I LOVE the scenes with Ganon).

The final battle of The Wind Waker was wonderfully dramatic, which made it a most satisfying boss experience, in my opinion. The man-to-man (er... boy) combat surrounded on either side with emotionally charged cut scenes, set atop a tower while the sea falls down around you. It was truly amazing.

I'm not quite clear on his interpretations. When Miyamoto said it'll be the last Zelda at it's present state or something like that, does he mean the next Zelda will be completely different?

In truth, this is a message I don't quite understand yet, so I'll just see this through as time goes by.

It might not be a bad idea to give the series a rest, though. Sure, it's a money-making cashcow, but if they DO kill the series off with this final hurrah, then at least they can't be accused of milking IT any longer - one step toward recovering from their excessive use of franchises established prior to or during the freakin' SNES era.

I'm up for letting the series take a breather also. I know it's still hugely popular but after awhile that may not be the case. May be time to update the series a little. Or you know give some other franchises time to shine...you know like...EARTHBOUND!

Earthbound was never a terribly popular game anyway.
It was much more of a cult hit.
And they did attempt a sequel, but it phailed miserably.

I got to play Twilight Princess at PAX. It wasn't that great. I mean, it's Zelda and everything, the graphics and gameplay are solid, but seriously. Basically it's OoT with better graphics. It's fun to play, it looks good, and it's definitely not bad, but it's nothing to have a wet dream over.

OoT with better graphics works for me. All I want is something good, and this looks like it might fit the bill.

Zelda games tend to be so large in scope that it's impossible to give a fair judgement from just a short demo, unless there are some huge inherent flaws therein.

I'm not saying it's bad or not worth buying, because it definitely is worth it. I just hope it's not going to have IGN going "OMG 10/10!!!1!!!!!11!1111" again, because from what I can tell, by virtue of the fact that it's nothing new gameplay-wise, it doesn't quite merit the amount of acclaim OoT got.

Even if it is OoT with better graphics, which I doubt that's all it will be, it's enough to sell me. ^^ I've been playing Zelda since the NES days when I was only a lad of 2 years of age. It's like another mother/father to me.

Hey, me too. I'm just giving my perspective on the thirty-or-so minutes of time I got with it. It's good, but I'm not too anxious about it.
