I'm intrigued. Though I'd think they would've used "Rockman 9" instead. o.o Maybe that was posted in Japan at the same time...
Digital distribution? I think this is the way to go, but I can see how some would feel apprehensive about it. I don't quite understand it, but I can see it... it's like they equate DOWNLOADAN GAEMS as second rate ports or shovel ware. People seem to think a game can't reach its full potential if it doesn't come on a disc, knowing full well that any Mega Man title would be hard pressed to even fill a DVD to capacity.
The only reason a Mega Man 9 is even being considered (if this indeed is the case), is because of lowered costs involving marketing and distribution by going digital. Pressed discs aren't free, people! *rants to no one in particular*
... And I thought Mega Man 9 was considered due to his 20th Anniversary? ;__;
Mega Man 9 confirm to WiiWare.
Excellent. I am surprised and dissapointed that they are going backwards on the graphics department. After all MM8 graphics were pretty sweet looking and I believe Wii can handle them. I also surprised they are adding a Splash Woman to the always male Robot Masters.
Now if only they would make Mega Man Legend 3.
Mega Man 9 confirm NOT ONLY to WiiWare.
Ah, it's good to be able to say this. See, we knew about this from the E3 intinerary ourselves, but Capcom asked us not to say anything, and so we opted to respect their wishes.
But thanks to Ars Technica, the truth is out there: Mega Man 9 is not exclusive to WiiWare, but is also going to be available on the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. So now, no matter what system you own, you can get your fill of retro Blue Bomber goodness.
What's that? You didn't know Mega Man 9 was confirmed? Well, check out our report of Nintendo Power's exclusive interview with creator Keiji Inafune for the full scoop thus far.
Of course, this should come as little surprise, as the OLFC did mark the game as "multiplatform" when they rated it.
No, that confirms it for everything. What you just said is that it's confirmed for everything BUT WiiWare... which contradicts the Nintendo Power article.
lol at everyone thinking it was Wii-clusive when we already knew that it was going multi-platform
Still, I'll probably be playing it on Wii Ware than anywhere else... unless, of course... Jump and Shoot are reversed again. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE, CAPCOM.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand it's only WiiWare again >>
I'll probably give it a try. I like the entire retro approach.
Why do I have a nagging feeling that two weeks later, it's once again for all systems...
Multiplatform MM9!
No, wait... it's for Wii Ware!
But what's this? **1950's soap opera organ** Now it's coming to PSN and Xbox Live!
And then suddenly... the multi-platform is off! **BUM BUM BUUUM** MM fans are devastated!
Meanwhile, Power Stone 3 awakes from its self-induced coma... WITH AMNESIA!!! **heavy-handed novela music**
Here's some new info/screenshot which is a summary of this coverage and this nifty interview which also contain more new screenshots (the laser lava looks quite deadly).
I'm curious about the black/gray Megaman following regular blue/lighter blue Megaman. Co-op? A freaky clone enemy? ...Maybe made out of cement?
I don't think I've ever been more excited for a game on a system I don't even own.
Humm, interesting they chose the classic route but I was expecting them to make it more like that cartoon style like they had with the origional PS. That was neat.
Also they really should consider multi platform since not every one has wireless or high speed. I would prefer if it was on CD or something.
Wireless can be circumvented by using the Wii's LAN adapter or equivalent. As for high-speed, I'm still surprised that people are on dial-up, although obviously there are factors like geography and so on to consider when trying to look at it with a more open mind.
But no, I think WiiWare is the best course of action for this title. This just isn't the kind of game that would do well on store shelves, so don't expect to see a disc-based version of this in, well, ever.
Sell it on floppy discs =D
Needs more visuals

Besides having the actual game, I like to collect favorite games for the cover art and there fore it would be a real shame if there wasn't an option for a physical product that you can actually hold and keep. Sorry for being old fashion, actually I'm not but like I said I'd like to have the physical game in my hand and not have to worry about any internet ailments/hackers est.
Just my preference, that's all.
Also for those who put down people that have less then what you have can come back to you, especially these days with high oil prices. Better to be kind, don't you think?
North American cover art is about as bland as the European box art. Your better bet is to purchase the Official Art Books (epically CAPCOM) where they have various cover art, concept sketches and unused promotional posters.
Also. Judging from how low sales were for MegaMan Powered Up & Maverick Hunter X in Japan, I'm not surprised that CAPCOM would go the Virtual Console route. In fact, I EXPECTED them to do so.
EDIT:

... wait, what?
something about bad karma
so be excellent to each other
The rotating pipe everyone was touting as 'can't be done on NES' turned out to be about 4 frames. I think the NES could handle that just fine.
When they said they were going retro, they weren't kidding. Music sounds fine, but I need more for an informed opinion.
so what system is this for exactly? DS?
Wii - more specifically WiiWare.
Looks like we've got some classic legless Mets here. I absolutely love the music already and I can't wait to hear the rest. There's not much else to say since the clip is so short. The rotation animation was a little choppier than I expected, but it's not a big deal at all. Those homing cannons are pretty cool too. What can I say, that's Megaman all right.
edit: Famitsu also says it'll cost 1000 Wii Points - aka 10 buxxx. Not too shabby at all.
double edit: XBLA and PSN confirmed - also, a trailer (that includes silhouettes of the new Robot Masters). Looks like the dark Megaman is just some sort of... weird... thing.
Still waiting on Floppy disc sales for those of us who can't afford next gen consoles and don't/won't have intarblag connections...

ARRRG, F-ing WAAANT!
I believe that is simply a showcase of main characters in the original series. The picture comes from the third (bottom) link of the site, which is a timeline of every Megaman game released in Japan. The only part of the site that really deals with Megaman 9 is the first link. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Bass did show up in the new game - I'd actually be more surprised if he didn't.
MORE Megaman 9 goodies. Also INTRO VIDEO!!!

Mega Man 9 Plug Man's Stage (Second Playthrough)
Mega Man 9 Concrete Man's Stage
SH Ed: Formatting was an eyesore, and three of the videos were linked to about:blank anyway, so fixing those up as well. You're welcome! 😀

That can only be described as epic win on Capcom's part.
I have to agree this game is shaping up to be awesome, and that shirt art is STILL epic win! I can't wait for this!
(On an unrelated note Psxphile, I just gotta ask: Where is that creepy kid from?)
Tomorrow Japan VC councils everywhere will decided wheather or not Rockman get's massive love, or Sonic hate?
Wow. How long has it been since the last Mega Man game of any delineation, BTW? I'm curious.

Well... uh... franchise-wise, Gamefaqs tells me another Star Force game was released ... with two versions ... in the US at the end of last June. As far as the classic series goes, I'd have to say either the Anniversary Collection or the Megaman & Bass port on the GBA. Megaman 8 was released in the US back in early 1997.
.....This is going to be the best thing to happen to VC since..well since EVER!!!!
Yeah, Star Force has been getting a fair bit of love lately, and ZX Advent was only released last year; thus, it hasn't been THAT long since ANY Mega Man game came out. It's just been a damn long time since the original series got love.
"Gee Willikers, I guess that means I'm next!"

He does great work!
This is half-irrelevant, but I was bored and went spelunking through the official Rockman site... Japan apparently got PSP ports of MML 1 and 2. Lucky bastards. What are the odds of them being translated and brought to the States? XD

How's Never sound, good? XD
I heard the ports were pretty lackluster, anyway.
Half-assed, really.
Considering that you really need ALL four back buttons to play Megaman Legends on PSP & DS (Lock On is essential)!
... Well, if they used the Touch screen fo- Oh nevermind my previous statements stands.
And here we have the Achievements for the Xbox Live version.
And look at that, sprites of the rest of the Robot Masters included.
Hornet Man is... most definitely not at all what I expected. At all. (Could this apply to every person on Earth? That is hardly a hornet.)
Nor is Galaxy Man's design expected. But it's kind of unexpected in a should-have-expected way... like Splash Woman being a mermaid. But I would have expected Hornet Man to be, like, a hornet. Not a walking honeycomb/nest with a stinger on it's head.
The surprises of this game continue.
Oh, and those are some pretty extreme achievements too. A bunch of that stuff would require mastering and memorizing the entire game. Beating the whole game without dying? Holy damn.
