Sony Computer Entertainment today announced plans to set up a PlayStation Spot at its Tokyo Game Show booth, allowing PlayStation Portable users to download demo versions of upcoming games to their handhelds. So far only five downloadable demos have been announced, but among them are two previously unannounced PlayStation Portable games: A sequel to Hudson's action title Rengoku: Tower of Purgatory as well as a new Rockman (Megaman) game from Capcom, simply titled Rockman Rockman.

Sony Computer Entertainment promises more downloadable demos for the upcoming game industry event, which will run from September 16th through 18th. After Tokyo Game Show, the company plans to set up PlayStation Spots at event locations and sales outlets.

This place needs more activity, or we'll never get rid of that damn pop-up. >.>

And now, a word from Mega Man Network and this link here:
eg.nttpub.co.jp/news/20050907_02.html
Mega Man Network's report

It's apparently a PSP remake of the original Rockman game, but it's in a different form. The game has a "Construction Mode", letting you make your own levels. You can also play the original Famicon version too, if you're a purist.

I may as well add to this topic rather than start a new one; Another Megaman PSP game has been announced going by the name of Irregular Hunter X.

"...Turns out Irregular Hunter X is going to be another 3D remake. This time, it's Capcom remaking the SNES's Mega Man X in 3D. Capcom plans to add new modes and modified levels as well."

I agree; I find it quite refreshing to start at the beginning rather than be bogged down by the endless sequels. Perhaps if they start going through the X series again, they could make the plot somewhat more... coherent.

I'm irritated, though, because I didn't intend on buying a PSP. Mostly because these, Lumines and WipEout are the extent of my interest in the console.

Well I hope Europe even gets these games, really. I'm still annoyed about not being able to play Anniversary Collection, and it doesn't look too promising for a European X Collection release either.

Oh, I don't know. I never really got to play the early Megaman series at all due to my lack of NES. I think I'd just enjoy it just for finally getting my hands on 'em (legitimately), regardless of how hard they are. Besides, I eat Ninja Gaiden for breakfast.

...Which explains my horrible health problems.

Edit: More screens of both games has turned up.

Can anyone recommend where to get me a GC freeloader disc and a copy of the aniversary collection at all?
or for that matter, where to get those screen shots, since the page linked seems to be down now

Videos of Rockman Rockman and Irregular Hunter X have turned up from the Tokyo Game show.

It looks like there are two new Robot Masters in Rockman Rockman, as well as the option to play a letter-boxed port of the original Rockman (with the enhanced graphics) or a slightly re-jigged version using all of the PSP's screen, etc.

(Source)

Unless my eyes deceive me, it looks like you can play as Vile in Irregular Hunter X. Not forgetting those spiffy-looking cutscenes.

Some of those anime scenes look interesting... they seem to take place not only when Sigma was still in charge of the Maverick Hunters, but even before Zero ever entered the picture. That would mean that those scenes would have to take place a fair while before the events of the first game, instead of immediately before.

Rockman Rockman: Megaman: Powered Up
Irregular Hunter X: Megaman: Maverick Hunter X

With these English names comes the confirmation that they'll be winging their way to the US (I've got my fingers crossed for Europe too!).

Inafune and Kitabayashi Interview

So, possibilities of future remakes, Rockman 9 and X9. I like the fact that the two new Robot Masters have been designed by Inafune.

Gamespot has put up a new video for Mega Man X Maverick Hunter: Day Of Sigma that showcases the anime scenes that were made especially for the game, plus more Vile gameplay.

And one really bad bit of voice acting. Check it out here.

Ohhh, NEAT.

That one navigator chick at the start almost looks like a variation of Layer...

And I am curious about what seems to be an odd injury on X towards the end.

Blast. I don't wanna buy a PSP...

:| AAUUUGH!! Me wants!

*flails uncontrollably and lauches into a wild coughing fit due to this friggin' cold I've been dealing with all week*

bah. I've been wanting remakes of this sort for years, and now it finally happens, but on a system I never intended to get... I can think of several other games that I wouldn't mind getting for a PSP if I had one, but I currently don't have a need for a portable system (which is why my newest is a GameBoy Color) and can't spend that kind of money on one.

Yes, this would probably be the reason I'd get a PSP.

Wish they'd put it on something else.

Or at least make the anime sequences available somehow else or something.

i think i'll really like this one, just do to the fact that we get a look at the kind of Man (reploid) that sigma originally was. Who knows? maybe he was a nice guy. the video does show him talking casually to X.

I wonder what Vile's story is going to be... Or if playing him is just an unlockable. Either way, I'm not getting a PSP just to play as that evil Boba Fett ripoff. =/

For those who didn't already know, the names of the two new Robot Masters in MM:Powered Up are: Oilman and Timeman.
I wonder, what will they be numbered as?

You can find gameplay footage of the intro stage of Mega Man X Maverick Hunter here. I'm a bit disheartened about their replacement of the "defeatist" attitude X had after the Vile battle, it made his eventual comeuppence and pure ownage of both Vile and Sigma all the more relishing.

Also, you can no longer joyride on the half-demolished red roadsters. ;-; However, you can actually win the Vile fight, even if the outcome doesn't change.

So, Vile already has a burning desire to break X in two. Huh.

so vile actually wants to fight AGAINST sigma? what the hell is up with that, it kinda spoils things for X8 and X3 then doesnt it?

lol @ OCEAN group dubbing Maverick Hunter X

X: "This Buster of mine glows and shines with an awesome power. It's pulsing energy tells me to defeat you! Here I go! SHINING BUSTER SHOT!!!"

Actually, the dubbing's not bad. Sigma's obviously Master Asia, but I can't place the others. Anyway, game's a little bit of all right. Everything just feels good. Just some minor differences in stage layout, item placement and boss attack strategy to keep the fans on their toes. And it looks fantastic, especially the new "old" backgrounds which are littered with detailed animations that bring them to life. And the Sigma stages have been completely overhauled, though I can't say if its for the better. Certainly seemed refreshing.

Controls might take some getting used to (the PSP is no SNES pad).

Beating the game with X opens up Vile mode. Fun, fun, fun. Unlike X he can have 3 different weapons available to him at any time without switching (shoulder, arm, and leg cannons) and new variations of the main three become available after every beaten Maverick boss. By the time you beat all 8 you'll have over 20 different weapons to customize your Fett-clone with. Shame there's no active switching within a stage, it's all done beforehand so pick carefully.

Beating the game with X also unlocks the Day of Sigma anime movie. It's a short, 20+ minute "episode" that tells the story of what happened prior to Sigma's rebellion. Good stuff, though it would appear to retcon certain aspects of the original X storyline.

Spoilers (Select To Read): Dr. Cain dies during the initial uprising.

With MHX2 already announced to be in production, this little plothole and other inconsistencies (Zero, for one) will no doubt be patched eventually. Surely, this is how a remake of a 16-bit classic should be done, and with the new PSP engine in place, we should be seeing the X remakes flying out of Capcom in due course.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the game comes with a Mega Man Powered Up! demo on the UMD. You get to try out two different versions of Cutman's stage. I approve the voice acting (no super squeaky MM8 voices here!). I'll certainly be getting this when released.

Initially the same, though it now takes place near the end of Sigma stage 3 instead of in the middle of stage 1. The scene seems much more striking due to the voice acting and actually seeing the on-screen X cradling Zero's broken body in his arms before slowly setting him down and continuing onward.

As I understand it, getting to this point without obtaining the arm part will net you Zero's Buster which, unlike in the original X1, fires a different and stronger Charge Shot at maximum.

:lol !! I assume these are the same voices as X8 and Command Mission? If so that's definitely nice, they are far better than anything else the series has had.

Reading about this and knowing I will never be able to play it and see/hear these things for myself is absolute TORTURE. :| I've wanted this for years and they have to put it on the blasted PSP. If only it could've been on PS2 or GameCube... Seems like it would do better there anyway, I don't know how this is doing in the US, but last I heard it was selling fairly poorly in Japan. Makes me wonder how far this series will really go (despite their supposed plans to go through X6).

*makes a rude gesture at Capcom*

*cries in a corner*

I watched the download of "Day of Sigma" Rockman Perfect Memories had.

Spoilers (Select To Read): Admittedly, I'm not very satisfied with Dr. Cain's murder, particularly since he shows up in both X2 and X3 and nets a mention in X4 but it at least puts an end to the question "where the Hell is Dr. Cain all this time?"

Now all they need to do is answer "where the Hell are all the humans, X7 onward?"... seriously, having read the plot summaries for the games after, like, X6, they all involve saving REPLOIDS. Not humans. REPLOIDS. Kinda defeats the point, somewhat...

I watched a download of it as well (considering that I'd never see it otherwise), seemed pretty nice. Just makes me want to play the game more, though. Concerning the voices, X's is definitely the same as in X8 (and Command Mission), Sigma's definitely isn't. I think I liked Sigma's X8 voice a little better, but they both seem decent. (I actually still like his X4 voice best, which was about the only decent voice in the game and seemed to fit him perfectly, especially the psychotic laugh) Vile didn't talk enough for me to be able to tell, and I'm not sure if Zero's the same. Sounded pretty close at some points, but at others (generally when he gets worked up) it sounded different. Most of the voices sounded decent overall though, certainly better (for the most part) than games prior to X8 and CM. (just the thought of this whole video with the X7 voices makes me cringe)

One thing I don't like is how short X and Zero are. They seem far too short, especially when compared to Sigma. (so maybe it's Sigma that's taller, but either way things seem off)

Shadow Hog, the humans went underground after the fall of the space colony EURASIA in X5. This is mentioned in X6's intro, I think. Reploids are the only ones allowed above ground as they work to stabilize the enviornment.

But in reference to MHX, you might be better off forgetting some of those details. I got this gut feeling Inafune's going to do away with certain plot points in order to steer the series down a different path.

Oh... I didn't realize X's VA was the same one from X8 and Command Mission. Seems so long ago since I've played them last. I think Kyoji's VA does Vile and Allenby's so Pink Haired Navigator W/ No Name. 😮

Also, in CM, I believe one of the data files says that there had been humans on the island, but Epsilon kicked them off at the start of his rebellion.

Almost two weeks later, and no one has an opinion on MM:PW? I know some of you don't own PSPs, but... well, no matter. That's what I'm here for, right?

Right-o. Let's begin.

zomg this game's too much. Between the main game with its multiple character roster and 3 levels of difficulty EACH, the Challenge mode that's actually throw-your-PSP-on-the-ground-and-jump-on-it CHALLENGING, the downloadable swag, custom stages and the built-in level editor; there's literally weeks of gameplay in here (and I'm talking to the seasoned pros who eat up Megaman platformers for breakfast).

Thoughts? Questions? Critiques? I was thinking of doing a general review of the overall game but I think I'd prefer to just slack off, take the easy way out and let you guys pepper me with responses.

Last I checked all of the officially-issued downloads are still available. User-created stage downloads are probably wiped from the server after a set interval of time, though I can't verify that at the mo.
