Umm... if they're newbies, the big ol' capital letters might just grab 'em...

Okay, to business.

I've noticed that people here have an awful habit of terrifying the poor newbies right out of their socks. I've watched so many newbies come in, make their valiant attempt at a post, only to be frightened off by the first person who tries to help them.

If YOU are a newbie and are feeling a bit nervous, just remember, it's not as scary as it looks.

If you've just tried to make a post in the RP forum, then I congratulate you.

The first thing you'll notice is that people start going on about detail. This is because potential players want to get more oriented with your world instead of flolloping into it like a beached fish. What kind of info do they want, anyway?

1: Info on the world!
Although where your RP is set may seem obvious to you, other people can find it a little confusing - after all, there are more Sonic universes alone than you can shake a stick at! It's a good idea to specify what kind of world you are in, as even SegaSonic and SatAM are vastly different.

2: A plot.
Like any good book or movie, a good RP needs a plot. It's important to specify the story behind what's going on right now. It doesn't have to be super-complex, but you should at least make an effort creating a storyline.

3: Info on your characters.
When starting an RP, you've got to introduce your characters, too. Prospective players need to know who you're playing and what they're like. So don't hesitate to tell us all about your characters!

Don't forget - you might be the Game Master of your RP, but you should never try to be the Awsomest Leader Hero Dude/Girl. Think of other players as your co-stars, not supporting actors. Remember, everyone who comes in wants to have fun, too, so share the glory!

If you need more information, it's readily available in Role-Playing 101 and the RP Forum Guidelines.

Wow. Syera does have a use. *laugh* Good job, I think we needed a post like this since the RP 101 is quite a mess. I've been meaning to clean it up, I think I may spend some time doing that tomorrow so its not a huge long ramble. It has some VERY helpful post in it and I would like them to be avalible. as well as a few key Q&A's in it.

Reguardless if you are new here and can't find, or don't wanna try to find what you need in the mess that is RP 101. Untill I get it cleaned up any new member that have questions not answered in the RP guidelines please feel free to PM me or IM me.

Detailing is the key.

We're not here to sound the intimidating your going about it all wrong kinda thing.

We're just here to keep the peace and help out people starting off their RPs. The points Syera made being the main points I tend to bring up.

Its also helpful to include such info as the type of RP it is:

Action/Adventure/Moderated - theres a whole load of them in the sticky topics if I remember correctly, That or the RPing guidelines (that should be updated a little more I think)

As for the worlds, well, the RPs allowed dont have to be about Sonic Hedgehog. If your making an RP on a different world, explain what type of world it is. Not everyones familiar with other games and I doubt many would be familiar with a RP set in a world of your own total creation.

For your story-line, I would also reccomend keeping an offline tab on whats happening, where your planning on going and what your going to do if such and such happens. Afterall, if theres a big red button saying dont push....ALWAYS have a scenario for the person who does push it...

I think the best way to start an RP would be to give say, a prologue to the story, like something you would find in a novel book. Nothing super huge, but enough to get the feel of things. Then introduce the RP itself.

A good way of introducing players in joining an RP is to give situations that they can jump into. Evalcs RP now in the MF Classics was a prime example of this.

Characters are the fun aspect. Just remember though that your playing with other people, so be sure to let others get the chance to do things. Its no fun if one person can do everything.

On a final note, remember to be courteous and polite to your fellow RPers OOC. If somethings gone wrong or they misread something, dont go yelling at them or insulting them. Thats not going to get you anywhere.

Just be yourselves, have some fun and Role Play. Step outside of reality and enjoy it. = )

Thanks! I've been RPing at the Neopets.com boards for about a year, this is my first time at this place. I must say that it was WAY WAY easier to RP at neopets than here, you didn't need all this code bull. Although Neopets RP boards also fell under the claws of the despies(You have absolutley know idea what that is, do you?) and the boards have gone downhil. I escaped and decided to start afresh, and since I have the most fun in Sonic RPS, I decided to come here.

Anyway, I hope that I can get off to a good start.

No offence, but calling a board's guidelines "bull" doesn't exactly constitute "getting off to a good start".

And I'm assuming that "despies" is some sort of abbreviation of despot?

I never bothered with RPing at Neopets, myself.

...since nobody appears to have answered this:

And you have to be in ezCodes.

Just for the record, this question should really have gone in the Emerald Visitors Center:
p072.ezboard.com/fsonichqcommunityfrm11

This thread more for RP questions, but since you were new, you probably didn't know.

So if we wan't to start an RPG we just post it? Most boards have to have RPG ideas authorized?

No authorization here. Just make sure you have enough detail in the opening post about the setup and situation and stuff and people are bound to follow along. That's pretty much it. Only catch is we don't particularly seem to like fighting RPs a whole lot.

I have a question,
everybody's character can be in, if they can add to the plot, right?

and can ppeople add new places and new objects, right?

You should ask the GM, the RP starter, about it. Generally minor things and subplots are fine, but its usually a good idea to talk to the GM.

Well, consider this

Does SHQ and its RP guild use the same rules and regulations for RPing as Neopets?

If the answer to this is no, then you dont know what you're doing with regards to rules, regulations and mod and admin help in this place.

SHQ isnt Neopets, things are different here.
