Yagami Hiroto chuckled as his eyeless gaze turned to Genonosuke. Without eyes, his face seemed absolutely eerie. "I suppose you're wondering how I've managed to cope...well, after losing my eyes, I had to adapt. Retrain myself to rely on all of my other senses to make up for my vision. And it's gotten me here." He pointed to his ears. "My ears have become so fine-tuned that I can hear an opponent's heartbeat...his muscle contractions...and in doing so, I can tell whether someone's frowning or smiling from as far as fifty yards. I can hear footsteps from much further...I can hear the wind...and the water. I hear all that is near me."

Izumo gulped. Man...no wonder he was able to find me so easily.

Hiroto poined at his nose. "My sense of smell grew in its acuity as well. I can smell an opponent's sweat...his body odor...his bad breath...I can still smell the remaining remnants of Genonosuke's vomit further down the mountain. It's still a bit faint, however..."

Genonosuke blinked. Dang...maybe I should blind myself. He seems to do good for himself without them!

"My sense of touch was also increased, although not as much as hearing or smell...for instance, I can feel through the ground the footsteps of someone from about twenty yards away..." He then stuck out his tongue. "No increase in my sense of taste...but I'm not perfect."

Might as well be, thought Ryu. After going through what you have, and still being so strong...how mighty were you WITH your sight?

"And of course...my ability to sense chakra." The Jonin flexed his neck as a gust of wind ran through the forest. "Chakra flow, manipulation, how it's being utilized, and concentration of it...my ability to sense these things has multiplied...out of necessity. I had to adapt...or die. There was no alternative for someone without sight."

Suddenly, Akura raised her hand. "Um...how...were your eyes lost?"

Hiroto's face suddenly became neutral. He calmly tied the hitai-ate back around his face before muttering, "A friend of mine. Someone who betrayed Konoha."

Everyone froze...but Akura's breath stopped short. This reminded her so much of her dream...

"He was in a situation where the only choice awaiting him was death...or torturing me, yet living. He chose the latter...and I couldn't blame him. I still can't." The Jonin's lips contorted into a frown. "HOWEVER...that is a situation that I can hope to spare you from...and heaven forbid you do end up in that situation...make sure you make the right decision. Because they can haunt you for the rest of your life..."

Kai momentarily grumbled. "Man...how come you don't hold a grudge against that traitor? He tore out your EYES!"

Suddenly, Hiroto's face turned into the ever-familiar grin. "Heh. For reasons beyond your understanding...but it made me the man I am today. All of my experiences in life have made me who I am...and you will all become what your experiences make of you...everyone understand?"

The graduates numbly nodded.

Hiroto chuckled. "Good...now tell me this...now that you're more aware of what awaits a ninja in this world...are you still willing to move forward without looking back?"

OOC: Ultra, It's William. Ryu mentions it in passing when he goes home. He doesn't have a last name, at least not one that he makes known, as he renounced it after the unknown events that brought him to the village.

IC: Ryu shook his head slowly. After seeing what had happened to Hiroto, he didn't know if he would be able to keep his resolve strong.
I know... I have to do this, for my family... But I just don't know if I've got what it takes like sensei does. He just stared into the grim eye sockets of Hiroto, rendered sppechless by his fear of the future, and what might happen to him if he were ever in a situation like Hiroto's.

OOC: Ah. Now he's just Kanshisha William then. Got it.

Come to think of it, have you ever given a physical description of Ryu? I have no idea what his hair color is. o.o;

xxxx

Yagami Hiroto turned towards Ryu. "Your throat's constricted...your heartbeat's sped up...and I can smell some fresh sweat. Signs of sudden fear...a kind of fear that clutches you and doesn't let go."

Ryu said nothing as the Jonin walked towards him.

A hand clutched his head, slowly rubbing it. The elite ninja's voice became warm and comforting. "I can understand...you're only children. You all still have your innocence. You haven't skirted the edge of life and death like I have so many times...in a way, that makes you all stronger than me; because you still have your childhood."

Riko blinked; was their sensei complimenting them?

"I can only say that if you enter the world of the ninja...be prepared to lose what I have...not just sight...but friends and innocence." Hiroto's voice become slightly off; almost sorrowful. "I've lost a lot of good friends since becoming a Jonin at the age of 15...and with my eyes gone, I can't even cry anymore. I guess you can say I've lost all of my tears."

Genonosuke paled. He became a Jonin at FIFTEEN?!?!

Hiroto suddenly smiled. "But I don't regret my losses. I can still walk high with a smile on my face. And you know why?"

"Why sensei?" asked Izumo.

A few seconds later, he grinned widely, revealing his perfectly white teeth. "Because I love my home."

Everyone blinked.

"I've lost more than anyone can be expected to lose...and been through more than most people will in their entire lives...but I don't regret anything. What usefulness does regret have? It only weighs you down by keeping you anchored to your past." The Jonin flexed his right arm as the sun shined off of the metal. "I've fought with the knowledge that everything I've done was for Konoha...for my home...for the land I love. People are measured at the end of their lives by what they have done...I think I'll die being remembered as someone who gave their all for the Leaf and all of its people."

The eight cadets stared in awe at the Jonin. He had kept going on - despite all of what he had been through - out of love for the village and all those in it. Riko felt his throat quiver. Man...15 more respect points... They had gotten the jackpot with their new teacher.

Yagami Hiroto smiled as his hitai-ate shined from the sunlight. "You all have shown me a wide range of skills...and the only thing left is to mold a team together. That will be done with experience and time...so with that out of the way, let me say that...you all pass."

Everyone's jaws dropped.

Hiroto chuckled as he gave them a thumbs-up. "Congratulations to all of you! You are now all Genin...and official members of Special Squad One!"

Izumo fell to his knees out of excitement. "I...I mean...we did it. We DID it!"

Riko collapsed in a heap. The combination of this news' shock and the strain put on him from the jutsu he performed was too much for the young Chakuya to take. Ow ow ow... Remind me NOT to use that jutsu again until I actually know what I'm doing... Riko sighed. Heh. But I passed! I'm a Genin! ...Now I can look foward to rescuing cats and stuff. Yay... Riko smiled inwardly at the thought. There had been Genin about a year ago who had to fish someone's cat out of a tree... literally. The cat wouldn't come down until Genonosuke had walked by eating his favorite sushi-kababob with bacon. Riko had thought the Genin seemed incompetant at the time, but now he understood what it felt like. Gotta shoot for Chuunin now. I better start training hard when I get home. To celebrate, Riko pulled out one of the riceballs he had brought from home... only it was rice mush now. "Huh?!" Riko stared at the mush in his hand. Oh, dammit! All that water from earlier... Riko tossed the ruined food aside and stood again, with a bit of difficulty. Dang... Why am I so tired? Did I really use that much chakra? I think I overextended myself...

Akura wasn't quite as enthusiastic as everyone else. I passed for panicing? ...That jutsu... where did it come from? Akura was staring at her hands in the same manner Riko had been before. If I have that kind of power within me... what else is there? As Riko stood, she walked to his side. "Are you ok, Riko-kun?" she asked. "Yeah..." he replied, "I didn't feel it at first, but that clone jutsu I did... I used too much chakra and performed it improperly on top of that. Riko suddenly coughed, spewing flecks of blood on the ground. "Riko-kun!" Akura yelped. "No, I'm fine. I guess I must have ruptured something. It'll heal." He wiped his mouth with his wrist and sighed.

Meanwhile, Genonosuke was dancing. He had grabbed Diao and Suki's wrists and was spinning around yelling. Cries of "Let me go, you idiot!" and "Katon..erk!" were barely audible over Geno's "YEAH! WE'RE GENIN NOW! WE'RE GONNA GO ON MISSIONS AND BE AWESOME AND KICK ENEMY NINJA ASS!!!" Riko sweatdropped, muttering, "That idiot honestly thinks we're going to start with B missions or something?" Akura frowned. "What do you mean, Riko-kun?" "I don't think all of the graduates know it, but I asked around a while back. Genin are sent on D and C missions, which-" Riko thought for a moment, then shrugged. "Nah. We'll probably have a much more in-depth explanation tomorrow. I'll let him have his fun until then." Genonosuke's happy yelling was cut short by one successful jutsu and Genonosuke following suit with the ritualistic 'Dance of Flaming Hair' in which the performer repeatedly shouts "MY HAIR'S ON FIRE! MY HAIR'S ON FIRE!!!! OH FOR THE LOVE OF-" A surging blast of water suddenly slammed Genonosuke into a tree, effectively putting the flames out. When Geno got up, Hiroto was standing with his back to him, whistling innocently.

All in all, a great day for the Chakuyas and Akura. One could only imagine what could lay in their path later...

OOC: Heh, heh. Oops. Got the fire element name wrong. o.o

Ryu stood silent for a second, his conflicting emotions washing over him, but eventually pure joy won out.

"I DID IT! YEAH!" He screamed ecstatically, leaping up and down and causing the earth to quake viciously as every plant surrounding the area moved in unison. He suddenly stopped and looked around, blushing.

"Ehh heh... I guess my Chakra control hasn't quite worn off yet, he he..." He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head. He quickly scooped up his pack and sat down, helping himself to his much-awaited lunch, laughing as Geno somehow managed to get his head lit on fire.

I think this is the first time I've felt actually... happy. He thought blissfully to himself, enjoying the bright sunlight in the clearing and the roast deer he had brought with him.

Hiroto calmly walked towards Chakuya Riko, placing his right hand against the boy's chest. Small, glass tubes suddenly jutted out of the gauntlet's sides, revealing green chakra within. The Jonin's entire right arm suddenly glowed green.

Daio blinked. What? Green chakra? That means it's of the healing variety...

The green aura inside the tubes went down by about a quarter until it stopped. The glass tubes receded into the gauntlet, the metal panels once again covering them. "There. That dose of healing chakra should do; rest will do the rest."

As the Jonin stood, Suki innocently asked, "Um...sensei? Where'd you get that spiffy gauntlet of yours?"

The elite ninja smiled as he flexed his right arm. "This gauntlet is constructed of the same material as the infamous chakra armor of the Snow Country's ninja village; although that village is small, they compensate by giving their warriors chakra armor to enhance their own abilities. This gauntlet is a custom job; a favor from the Snow Country's ruler in return for helping to protect his life in a mission a few years ago. Although the chakra enhancement isn't substantial - I'd need it to cover my whole body for that to happen - I compensated by including the arm blade, the instrumentation needed for my 'Voice of the Echoes'...and a built-in conversion tool that can convert my own natural chakra into healing chakra that I can use at well." Of course, it's not a lot; I just used about a whole month's worth of stored chakra on Riko alone. "It won't replace a true medical ninja...but it'll suffice on the field when nothing else can help."

Genonosuke stared at the gauntlet out of slight envy. Man, that's one nifty tool...maybe I can get one from the Snow Country someday.

"ANYHOW," suddenly said Yagami Hiroto as he walked away, speaking loudly as he did. "Tomorrow will be your first mission...I'll divulge the details for you then, but make sure to wear light clothing." He paused. "Except you Suki; any lighter clothing and you'd be violating public decency laws."

Suki frowned. Kai snickered. Burned. Izzy sweatdropped. I wouldn't mind if she wore lighter clothing.

"All right..." The Jonin reached into a pocket on his vest and pulled out a small gold sphere. "Tomorrow, report outside the Ninja Academy at 9:30 AM. I'll be waiting for you. Special Squad One...you are dismissed." He threw the sphere onto the ground.

Everyone yelped as a blinding flash slammed into their eyes. Ryu grimaced. A flasher...!

When their vision finally returned to normal, Hiroto was gone. Izzy chuckled. Heh...an old move...but a goodie.

as everyone filed away Kai slowed down
"I'll catch up to you later"
Diao looked at him quizzically, but then turned with Suki and left.
Kai began running through the hand seals and focusing
"got to conserve the excess chakra" he muttered
as he finished the technique and the hands burst from the ground, he was already begining to sweat and was breathing heavily
"bah! it's no good, I'll have to rebuild the technique, it's to much effort for something showy which is easily defeated"
angrily, he turned and punched a large tree. shaking his hand, he turned and left following everyone else.

several hours later, the tree split and fell

Riko and Genonosuke said their goodbyes to Akura, who left for her own house to tell her mother the good news. "Aw, man. What a day..." Genonosuke mumbled as they walked up their house's stairs together. Unexpectedly, Tatsuya was waiting at the top for them. "Well, well!" The Chakuya clan's patriarch's booming voice took them by surprise. "So, my son... How badly did you kick the sensei's ass, huh?" Genonosuke sweatdropped, and said, "Well... uh, I decaptiated one of his Shadow Clones..." Riko smirked, remembering that Hiroto had let that happen on purpose. "Haha! Great, son! You know that Hiroto guy became a Jonin early, right? You're just a Genin now, but if you take the Chuunin exam next year, and test to become a Jonin the year after that, you'll beat his record!" Genonosuke took this opportunity to sweatdrop too. What the crap is father thinking? he thought bewildered, He expects me to be better than Hiroto-sensei when I turn fourteen? That's nuts! Genonosuke made an awkward grin, and said, "Well, father... That's a still a long ways off. Riko and I just became Genin..." Tatsuya glanced at Riko for a moment, then asked, "So he passed, too huh? Well, good job, I guess. Or whatever." Tatsuya leaped over the boys' heads and landed at the bottom of the stairs, then left.

Riko walked into his room, and sat down. He was still weak... Hiroto's chakra had healed whatever wound he had caused from the poorly done jutsu, but had not restored Riko's own chakra. That was the rest part Hiroto mentioned. Riko frowned. That jutsu... I know I didn't do it right, but why did it execute so perfectly? I even created way more clones than I thought I would... Riko's thoughts suddenly drifted to the conversation he and Akura had about the Fish-King... the Kaigyo-daiou, who had granted Chuusi Bachiwaka an increased power over water because Kaigyo-daiou and his subjects could not always come to Chuusi's aid. Nothing I've read ever said a summoning contract could last through generations via the bloodline... Though I suppose it makes sense. But that'd mean Chuusi was... a woman? That's the only way I could have her exact blood in my veins. Riko grimaced. Whatever the case, he needed training. I still don't know the proper handsigns for that jutsu... I'd probably have to see it in action. "Water clone jutsu or not, I'm not going to get anywhere resting." Riko stood up. Some of his chakra had been recovered, but he needed another boost if he was going to have the strength to train tonight. It was eating time. Riko smiled. "I could use some curry right about now. Spicy beef curry! And ramen with cheese as a side! Mmm..." Riko went down to the kitchen to stuff himself.

Meanwhile, Genonosuke was having reflections of his own. "I need to get better, huh? I haven't even developed our family's advanced bloodline limit: The Tetsuhifu, Iron Skin. We've always kept it a secret, even from members of our branch house. Riko wouldn't even know if I hadn't told him... Our main house clan members have the ability to change our flesh to metal and back at a moment's notice; creating an almost inpenetrable barrier to attack. That's what father always said... Bah, what good is that? Defense? I'd rather transform my fist and use it to attack..." Genonosuke unsheathed his katana. "He said to either learn ninutsu and genjutsu, or become a better swordsman... Riko's always got tricks up his sleeve. Maybe he could give me a tip..."

BURP. Genonosuke winced as he walked into the kitchen where Riko was. Judging from the bowl Riko had fixed his curry in, Riko had just eaten five normal servings of the stuff. "O_o ...What the hell, Riko? You're a damn pig." Riko laughed at Genonosuke as he finished up the last of his second container of ramen with cheese. "Burp. What can I say? I was hungry. So... what is it?" Genonosuke hesitated. Man, I don't wanna ask him this... "...I need to become a better swordsman. I know you can't fight as well as I can, but your strategies have always put me on edge when we spar. On top of that, you're way better at Ninjutsu than I am. I need some kind of edge... a Ninjutsu to compliment my abilities, to call my own." Riko smirked, and then thought for a moment. "...What about a Metal element jutsu?" "Huh?" "The Chakuya clan's always been good with metal... That's why there's a smithy here, right? The clan's always forged their own weapons, among other things. I figure it has something to do with the clan having a natural affinity for Metal. Maybe... transform your katana into different shapes? Learn how to use an opponent's metal equipment againt them?" Genonosuke thought for a moment, laid his katana on the table, then formed a hand seal. "Uh... Kinzoku: Kinkumikaeru no jutsu? Metal element: Metal rearrangement?" Genonosuke expressed shock as his katana immediately bent into a different shape. "See? Not hard at all. The trick is controlling it." Riko stood up, then commented, "I'm going out to the lake to brush up on my water jutsus. Later." He left, Genonosuke stared at his katana, then performed the jutsu again. Nothing happened. "Argh, RIKO, I'M GONNA KILL YOU!"

Riko stood in the middle of the lake, observing the surroundings. The residence of the Chakuya clan was very close to the village's wall. The back of the estate was surrounded by forests, which came into a clearing. The clearing contained the lake Riko was standing on, a smithy for forging weapons(and where Riko had made his Bo ring), and a small shrine with a pagoda roof. Everything's so beautiful... This land... I have to protect it... I will protect Konohagakure with my life, if need be. Riko concentrated, and formed the sign of the Hare. Slowly, the water beneath his feet began to be disturbed as Riko began emitting his chakra outwards instead of in the form of a cushion. "Suiton: Suisiberu no jutsu." he whispered, and leaned foward. His chakra propulsion did the rest. This technique didn't require nearly as much chakra as one might think it did. Slowly, Riko started gliding around the lake, then he lifted his left leg and placed the curve of the under-foot under his right knee. This was the pose Riko took when he began to accelerate. And as suddenly as he had started, he stopped. "Suiton: Mizubooru no jutsu." A small, perfect sphere of water rose out of the lake, suspended by his chakra. Ok. This'll train my chakra control... I'll keep it suspended as long as I can. Riko closed his eyes and simply concentrated.

Finally, Genonosuke managed to get his katana back to its original shape. "Phew. Oh, well. At least I did it..."

Akura quietly shut the door to her home. There were noises coming from the back... Familiar, disturbing noises. Noises Akura knew all too well... Mother's doing it again... She thought as she sighed. "Is that you Akura?" Akura's mother's (Juuli) voice rang out, and one could hear a 'poof' as she dismissed a Water Clone she had used Henge No Jutsu on for... certain purposes. Akura turned away as her mother entered the room, partially nude. "So, how'd the test go?" she asked, as she put on her top. "...It went great, mother. I passed, and am now an official Genin." "That's great news, Akura! Congrats, darling." and then Juuli left the room to pour herself a drink and get back to her business. Mother's not been the same since father died... Akura thought sadly. Akura's father had been a Jonin, and one of exceptional status (though not as strong as Hiroto or the legendary Kakashi). However, a few years after Akura was born, he slowly became ill, and died only two years ago. Akura's mother had quit her ninja training at this point, stopping at the level of Chuunin. She eventually deteriorated into a alcoholic and nymphomaniac who had to satisfy her urges with certain jutsus to avoid causing ...trouble with other families. This affected Akura deeply, though she did not express her concerns to her mother. Akura sighed, and went to fix herself some ramen with cheese, just like every other night. I was hoping mother would be a bit happier, considering what a failure I am... A tear fell in her ramen, and she shook her head. I must be strong. I will train to be Chuunin, and then Jonin. I will inherit my father's legacy and make his spirit proud. She poured the liquid cheese topping onto the cold noodles, and ate them like that. "I've got to do better..." she said quietly.

OOC: Remember that Kakashi was 14 when the Nine Tails attacked, and when the show began, he's 26...so he's roughly Hiroto's age now. o.o

xxxx

At the palace of the Hokage, Sarutobi remained silent...and then he glanced into the shadows. "How did it go...Hiroto?"

"Hokage-sama," muttered Hiroto as he came out of the shadows, a smirk on his face. "It went quite well...all eight children under my command are now Genin."

"Six years of saying 'no' to all predecessors," said a calm, young voice nearby. "And now you suddenly give a pass to all eight? You must be getting soft." The voice belonged to a certain Hatake Kakashi...and although slightly younger than Hiroto, he had been a Jonin for much longer. He had also been a student of the Fourth Hokage...and although it was something known to only a few people, he possessed the mighty Sharingan eye.

However, its effectiveness on Hiroto was subdued due to his lack of any eyes...and although Kakashi was much better than Hiroto in the category of genjutsu, Hiroto was better at taijutsu and roughly equal at ninjutsu. Despite any differences between the two in terms of age, their powers were nearly equal.

Hiroto chuckled as he turned to face the gray-haired Jonin as he stepped forward. "Shows what you know. This year's crop happened to be rather talented...much more talented than their predecessors."

"I also heard you decided to go easy on them this time around," dryly replied Kakashi.

Hiroto lightly retorted, "Let's just say that I was reminded this time around that they're still children...and as such, their childhood innocence prevents them from complying to the same standards I put on myself. Besides, you're not one to talk; you've never let anyone become a Genin either."

Kakashi calmly shrugged. "True that."

Sarutobi interrupted, "Enough of your playful bickering...are the children ready for their first assignment?"

"Yes sir. It's still the same thing as I was told it would be, correct?" asked the blind Jonin. In reply to Sarutobi's nod, the brown-haired Jonin smiled. "Good." He turned towards Kakashi. "Wanna go get a bite to eat? My treat."

Hatake Kakashi smiled underneath his facemask. "I'm never one to deny a free meal." As the two Jonin walked away, Sarutobi heard snippets of their conversation.

"So one-eye, you pass any of YOUR cadets?"

"No. I flunked them."

"Man, you are such a tight-wad."

"Takes one to know one."

"Alright, now you have to pay for whatever you eat."

The Third sighed as they left his office. Truly odd, those two are. But then again, those two were the most powerful Jonin in the village, bar none. I'd hate to see the kids that graduate under Kakashi.

xxxx

Shiranui Izumo sighed as he stared up at his bedroom ceiling, white boxers being the only thing separating him from nudity. The window was open, letting a cool spring breeze into the room.

I made Genin...

It was unbelievable. The feeling of elation had been incredible...and it hadn't just been him! His buddy Riko had fully graduated as well...along with the three hotties! Ah...I'm pretty sure Akura's off-limits, but Daio and Suki are definitely nothing to sneeze at. Ah...I wonder if they're interested in being my girlfriend?

Such thoughts accompanied the boy as he fell asleep.

That is, only after reading the next chapter of Make-Out Paradise. Heh heh.

xxxx

OOC: No, Kakashi is not part of the main plot. He might make some token appearances, but his spot in the RP will be pretty minor.

My next post will involve the coming of morning...and SS1's first mission.

OOC: As long as I'm still up, I might as well add more.

IC:

Riko was straining now. Four balls of water, as compared to the first were now floating in the air near him. He had been out here doing this... how long? An hour? Two hours? If I can't keep this up, there's no way I'm going to be able to do a Suiryudan... Finally, Riko simply let go. The balls of water hit the lake with a wet plop. "Ok, chakra control down..." Riko made another hand seal. Small fountains of water slowly jetted from the surface of the lake, each about four feet high. Riko leaped on one, then concentrated. "Now... physical agility! One of the most important things in combat, as much as I hate to admit it." Riko began jumping from pillar to pillar, and then began gradually speeding up his actions and moving the pillars across the surface of the lake.

Genonosuke was observing Riko. "Daaaamn... No wonder he's better than ninjutsu than me if he trains like that... I never really payed attention. He's really determined... But that fool's gonna collapse if he doesn't res-...?!" Just as Genonosuke had said this, Riko's pillars disappeared, and the young Chakuya fell into the lake. "Hey, RIKO! YOU FREAKING IDIOT!" Genonosuke was running, and then jumped into the lake as he cast his katana aside. Struggling to keep his eyes open, he could see the almost unconscious Riko floating free. As he got closer, he could see Riko was bleeding slightly from a wound caused near his temple; probably caused from the impact of the water, or from grazing a fish or something. In any case, Genonosuke grabbed Riko's gi and tried to swim upwards. Dammit! He's too heavy... Even as Genonosuke thought this, a nudge from below suddenly pushed him and Riko to the surface. Geno looked into the lake, and thought he saw a large shape flicker and disappear. W-we don't have fish that size in this lake! What the hell... Genonosuke put it out of his mind, and drug Riko to shore. Placing the nearly drowned Chakuya on his back, Genonosuke angry berated Riko. "What the hell did you think you were doing?! The sensei told you to get rest, you idiot, not kill yourself with fancy training!" Riko feebly formed a hand sign and spat the water in his lungs in one large blast. "I still had a little chakra left..." Riko said wearily, "I guess I got physically exhausted." "No farking kidding, Captain Obvious." Riko chuckled, then sat up slowly. "...Thanks, Genonosuke." Riko got up, went inside the house, and promptly went to bed.

Genonosuke frowned. I think his chakra WAS depleted. He has determination though... Man, does he ever. I could learn a thing or two, I guess. Genonosuke glanced at his katana, and picked it up. Manipulating the elements to train... I might could do that. What if I could.. magnetize my blade and...? Would that even work? "Meh. I'll think about it tomorrow." Genonosuke went inside and prepared for dinner.

OOC: Never mind, NEXT post features the assignment.

xxxx

Meanwhile, looking upon from afar, was Yagami Hiroto, wearing a short-sleeved jumpsuit for a change. "..." He quickly disappeared, the sky lit only by the stars and the moon.

xxxx

Chakuya Tatsuya smiled as he sat on the balcony of his room, looking out upon the skyline of Konohagakure. "Ah...my boy's gotten quite impressive. Beheaded a Shadow Clone of his sensei...not bad at all."

"It's a good thing bigotry isn't a disease. Seeing as how contagious it can be, it'd wipe out everyone in the village."

The clan leader turned to face none other than Hiroto, who was leaning against the glass door to his bedroom. A quick gust blew by as he said, "Hello Chakuya Tatsuya."

"Yagami Hiroto," said the dark-haired clan leader. "I've heard from my son that you're now his sensei...along with several other children."

"Correct. They all graduated to Genin."

Tatsuya smiled. "That's good..." A cocksure grin came to his face. "I'm not usually one to brag, but was Genonosuke the most impressive of them all? After all, his grades were among the highest of this year's graduating class...and he's set to inherit the title of Chakuya clan leader one day. Judging by how he beheaded one of your Shadow Clones earlier, he's well on his way eh? Ha ha ha!"

"Dead wrong."

Tatsuya blinked. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Hiroto tilted his head to face the clan leader. "I usually take grades with a grain of salt, as more often than not, they have no impact on reality. To my main point, were you told I intentionally let my Shadow Clone get beheaded to psyche those little tykes out?"

"Hmph," scoffed the clan leader, who was a powerful ninja in his own right. "Denial is often the case when a powerful man is faced with greatness. You probably can't admit the truth out of fear of looking bad...understandable."

Hiroto chuckled. Blind fool. Can't see the truth even if it hit him in the face. "Actually, you can ask any of the eight Genin under my command. Akura, Riko...heck, even Genonosuke will tell you that I let my Shadow Clone get beheaded on purpose."

Tatsuya frowned as he pointed at a small cut on the Jonin's bare left arm. "What about that little wound? It looks fresh...caused by a sword wound, I suppose?"

"Wrong again. Caused by a Wood Element jutsu by Kanshisha Ryu." Yagami Hiroto smirked. "You put a lot of faith in your son. Understandable...but I'll have you know that out of all eight of my Genin students, your son was the least impressive of the lot."

Tatsuya's feigned hospitality immediately disappeared. "Watch where you tread Hiroto."

"I'm only stating the truth," replied Hiroto. "Your son's drive is admirable...but he also needs fine-tuning if he's going to put that metal stick of his to good use. I fended him off with only one little kunai knife...and he eventually lost his cool. I won't lie; the kid's got talent, like all of my other graduates...but he needs the most work too. High grades tend to make some cadets rest on their laurels...and I can tell that Genonosuke's been resting on them for awhile now. After all, even Chakuya Riko handed him a slice of humble pie."

Tatsuya's eyes narrowed. "Now I know you're lying. Sure, Riko may TECHNICALLY be a Chakuya, but he's nothing compared to my Genonosuke."

"Oh really?" The Jonin stopped leaning and looked intently at the clan leader. "Then explain to me how Riko was able to use the Water Clone technique on his first try. Explain to me how Riko, in my every observation of him, has outclassed Genonosuke at every turn?"

Tatsuya snorted. "I don't have to listen to this. I want you to leave these grounds NOW."

Feh. This is why I hate clan feuds. The Jonin calmly stood upon the balcony railing as he tilted his head. "I think Genonosuke will turn out to be a splendid ninja...but at the way things are currently, the 'black sheep' of the family will outclass your successor. And that's not good publicity. So I advise you start treating Riko with SOME modicum of respect."

"Is that a threat?" growled the clan leader.

Hiroto chuckled. "Nope. Just some advice...I'd just hate to see Riko somehow develop a grudge against you. Remember the clan feuds that once gripped this world before the formation of countries? I don't think you want a repeat of those."

Those words said everything else. Tatsuya said nothing as the Jonin disappeared into the night.

Now, as to why the Jonin had tilted his head...it was to look in the direction of an open window. A window from whichi Genonosuke was looking out from, eavesdropping on the whole conversation.

The swordsman sighed as he laid back down on his bed. Maybe...I should start being nicer to Riko?

Eh. He'd think about it over a nice long sleep.

OOC: Sorry went to a LAN party. :p

Rico entered into full view rather unninja-like, cruching through the underbrush and facing Zabuza. Rico didn't seem the ninja type. He had removed his overcoat, probably do to comfort, and his arms were now in view. His biceps looked underdeveloped, his frame looked out of shape. Little muscle, he didn't look fat but he didn't look like a trained jounin at all. He seemed to be distracted by the hidden cave but didn't lose sight of Zabuza either.

His reply wasn't blackmail, nor a threat, nor did it seem to have anything to do with the village at all. "How can you do that?" He said plainly before looking into the mist again, "You protect the child, but yet you treat her like a creature. Why?"

Genonosuke closed the window, thinking about the conversation between Hiroto and his father. Riko... Is he so much better than me? My skill with Taijutsu over his Ninjutsu... I guess that stuff's more important than I thought. Riko is good in his area, I'll give him that... But he's never been able to match me while sparring, even if that one time...

*Flashback*

"And remember, Riko! Only weapons and taijutsu!" Genonosuke proclaimed at his cousin as they stood in the family's dojo, the room for training. "Gee, Genonosuke, aren't you the fair one?" Riko retorted, brandishing his Bo. "I don't even see why you drag me into doing this... I hate physical combat. You know that." Genonosuke grinned. "You're not gonna get any better if you don't try!" Genonosuke unsheathed Kintetsu, his katana, and pointed it at Riko. "Prepare yourself!" Riko smirked, and took a glance at the new green stripe on his Bo. "Oh, don't worry. I've been prepared."

Genonosuke rushed foward with an overhead strike. To his utter surprise, Riko stood his ground and raised his Bo to block. Metal met wood, and... wood didn't give way! "Huh? What the hell?" Genonosuke was taken by surprise as Riko lashed out with a kick. Though Geno was sent flying, the actual blow didn't hurt too much... But it put him on his guard. "Clever... Real clever. But you won't do that again!" Genonosuke leaped foward again, this time to do an uppercut slash. Riko sidestepped, and Genonosuke noticed the metal ring on the end of the Bo all too late. POW. Even with Riko's inferior strength, that ring HURT. "Grr... Riko!" Genonosuke grunted, and went back into the fray. Side-slash... Riko blocked. Diagonal. Riko blocked. Thrust. Riko leaped over his head, and Genonosuke managed to turn before Riko got a blow in. He's good at defending himself... But he'll never defeat me with defense! Genonosuke sheathed Kintetsu and brandished his fists. Riko sweatdropped, knowing that his Bo couldn't defend against hands. A few seconds later, Riko was down for the count.

*end flashback*

Genonosuke's own words" You're not gonna get any better if you don't try!" echoed in his head as he sat on his bed. "Riko's really better than me, huh?" Genonosuke looked at his scratched wall, which still had Hiroto's "No breakfast" message on it. "...Not for much longer. I'm not going to persecute Riko because of his skill... It's my fault he's better than me. ...No amount of sword training is going to turn me into a Jonin by itself." He stood up, and looked at the kunai and shuriken he had placed on his dresser after the test. "Kunai... shuriken... Both are made of metal. And my blade..." Genonosuke grinned. It wasn't much to go on, but if he could master the style of combat he was thinking about... "I was going to get some sleep... But now..." Genonosuke headed to the dojo to train.

Genonosuke held up a shuriken. He had never liked these things in the Academy, but now he appreciated them quite nicely. Genonosuke threw the shuriken, then clasped his hands together in the sign of the Ox. "Kinzoku: Hishoukinkansei no justsu! Metal Element: Flying Metal Control!" The shuriken changed direction almost naturally, but soon fell to the ground. Huh...? Oh, wait! It changed direction, but lost its speed... Genonosuke picked up the shuriken, then threw it again, performing the jutsu a second time. This time, Genonosuke applied some extra chakra to the directional change, and the shuriken flew perfectly. Genonosuke smiled, thinking, I'm actually doing good ninjutsu! I can't believe this! Haha, wait till Riko sees me!. "Kinzoku! Kinjiki no jutsu! Metal element: Metal Magnetism!" He unsheathed his katana and held it high. The shuriken flew towards him, and the flat of it latched on to the blade. He tried to pull the shuriken, but it was firmly stuck on with his chakra. "Grr... Stupid..." He began banging the sword against the ground, but suddenly felt a tug at his belt. His bag of shuriken was bulging... "Oh crap." The whole thing burst, and dozens of shuriken latched on to the blade. Soon, Genonosuke's headband(attached to his left leg) followed suit. "Grr... dammit!" Genonosuke then realized he was wearing his lucky wristbands... also made of metal. Soon, Genonosuke's entire body was contorted and stuck to the blade full of shuriken. He promptly fell over and started cursing.

Zabuza chuckled as he faced the frail-looking Kiri-nin. Although he seemed rather weak, he was a master at manipulating chakra...ideal for facing ninjutsu and genjutsu specialists. Taijutsu users were a problem for Rico'ki...but that's why he was often assigned to the swordsman as a partner. Zabuza's Taijutsu skills would make up for Rico'ki's one weakness...and in so doing, make a very formidable duo.

Finally, he answered, "Are you that naive? You know how those with Bloodline Limits are treated in Kirigakure...that child killed his own father, and lived on the streets, hiding...eating scraps that not even dogs would eat. I found him one day, hiding in a field of tall grass...trying to hide from vultures that would pick at his skin." His right hand clenched into a fist. "I took him in...fed him...put some meat on his bones...all because of his formidable power. Trained properly, he'll become a VERY efficient tool at my disposal."

"Imagine how betrayed that child will feel once he finds out," observed the pale-skinned ninja.

"Heh heh heh...the boy already knows. That's all it took for him to bind himself to my will." The Jonin flexed his neck, keeping narrow eyes on Rico'ki. "He serves me because I value the power that others fear. Because I want his power, instead of merely killing him for possessing it. That is why he serves me...compared to his former life, he's in heaven now..." Zabuza walked past his mission partner, stopping behind Rico'ki. "...which is why I'll send you to Hell if you decide to squeal." The swordsman continued to walk on, leaving the thin and underdeveloped ninja behind.

xxxx

Konohagakure.

Morning.

The eight members of Special Squad One stood outside of the Ninja Academy, the sun already in the sky. Izzy, as per Hiroto's orders, wore lighter clothing: black shorts and a white vest. You should've seen him when he had seen Suki wearing a two piece bikini and a miniskirt (wearing lighter clothing, as Hiroto had commanded). Oh God, I'm going to get a nosebleed.

Ryu looked around calmly. "I wonder where Hiroto is...?"

"Hey." Kai blinked as he looked down; a straw was poking out of the ground. "What's this?"

DOOSH!

Hiroto suddenly burst from the ground, utterly startling everyone. "About time you guys got here; I've been underground for about two hours now."

Everyone sweatdropped. Goofball.

Hiroto, as per his own orders, also wore lighter clothing: black sweatpants, and only his green Jonin vest, which was unzipped. Of course, he still wore his hitai-ate over his eyes. His ears twitched as he heard the brushing of clothes against the Genin's bodies. "Good. You brought lighter clothing like I said."

Akura suddenly took note of more scars on the Jonin's body, previously hidden by his jumpsuit. Those were the result of whip marks and searing bolts being pressed onto his body. A fresh set of shivers gripped her.

"All right!" eagerly yelled Genonsuke as he held his katana tightly. He was in a considerably better mood than last night. "Are we going to be protecting someone from bandits? Delivering special items to a faraway ruler? Generally owning all enemies that come our way? Come on, the suspense is killing me!"

Hiroto smiled as he leaned down towards the giddy swordsman. "We're going to be farming."

Genonosuke blinked. "...farming?"

xxxx

Outside Konohagakure's southwestern portion of the wall, there was a large field where a number of crops were grown. The spring crop - mostly spring wheat, grapes, and beets - was being harvested by the local workers, with Suki, Daio, and Akura cleaning the grapes and beets, as well as putting the grains of wheat into bins for storage.

Meanwhile, the boys - Riko, Ryu, Genonosuke, Kai, and Izumo - were softening the soil of another field in preparation for the summer crops, with Ryu having the sole responsibility of planting the seeds. Hiroto's duty was to obtain water for the irrigation system.

"Man, this sucks," grumbled Genonosuke as he slammed a' hoe into the ground, softening the soil. "Helping a bunch of farmers? LAME. We aren't even allowed to use our jutsus to make things easier! DOUBLE LAME."

Kai nodded out of concurrence. "No kidding," said the Genin as he used a plough to tread through the soil in even lines.

I probably should've told Genonosuke we'd be only getting D missions at first, thought Riko with an ironic grin. "Eh, it's not that bad," said the blue-haired Chakuya as he hit the ground hard with his hoe, sweat dripping down his face. "At least the exercise helps." Who knows, I might actually lose a few pounds!

Genonosuke merely grunted in response.

Meanwhile, Izzy took a quick swig of water from a canteen before looking up at the sun. "Man, we've been working for three hours..." He suddenly took note of Hiroto, walking towards a set of pipes nearby: the irrigation system. Five poles were on his back, each one having two large buckets of water strapped to them. He also held another bucket with his teeth clenching onto the handle. Good grief, that's a lot of water. It all weighed at LEAST four hundred pounds; no easy load for anyone to bear. Izumo quickly downed another gulp of water before getting back to work.

Riko paused for a moment, scratching his stomach. He was wearing a loose blue T-shirt, blue shorts, and had left his headband at home, since he didn't really need it. Getting back to work, he struck up conversation again. "You know, Geno... There's a pretty good reason why we're farming." "No reason is good enough... But shoot."

"I thought this would be explained as we got our mission, but I guess not. There are different levels of missions, you know. Stuff like this, farming, would be considered a D level mission. Little danger, no traveling, and little skill required."

"D level, huh? Well, D level can suck an egg!"

"D level's actually a decent source of income for our village, you know..."

"Yeah, whatever."

"Anyway, then there's C level. C level missions are still rather easy, but not for beginners like us. Delivering an item to another country (depending on the item's importance of course), escorting someone who wants protection from thieves and bandits, or hunting down a low level criminal is a C level mission. We Genin can only do D and C missions..."

"Aw, that's it?!"

"Yeah. There's a bit more... There are also B and A ranked missions. B missions jump a lot in difficulty, which is why Chuunin are the only ones allowed to do them."

"What about Jonin?"

"I'm getting to that! Anyway, B level missions can be something like conducting espionage in a team within a nearby country, or maybe being assigned to defend a requesting village from a raiding attack, I dunno. I've never really seen any information on B missions, but that seems about right. Chuunin are usually the only ones who do these missions because Jonin skills are better used on A missions. A is the most dangerous and requires every bit of a Jonin's skill. Protecting someone targeted for assassination, delivering top priority information, or performing an assassination yourself can all be considered A rank missions depending on the cirumstances involved. In short, Genin can do D and C, Chuunin do C and B, and Jonin typically only do A, though there can be exceptions with squad leaders like Hiroto-sensei."

"...Where the hell did you hear all this?"

"I asked Aunt Kukuru about it. She IS one of the village's librarians, you know... She can get information pretty easily."

'Aunt Kukuru' was not Riko or Genonosuke's aunt, by any means. She was a woman of about 22 with long, purple hair and green eyes who tended to wear white or red robes. There is a rather unique story behind her, but for now this is not important. Let it suffice to say she is not familiar with anyone in the country of Fire, but after a previous encounter with Genonosuke, Akura, and Riko, she became their adopted Aunt, and eventually got a job as a librarian of Konohagakure where she happily lives now.

"Oh. Bah. I still want a C mission!"

"Keep dreaming, Genonosuke. I doubt we're going to be doing one anytime soon."

Riko pulled out his own bottle of water, and took a swig. Looking around, it seems the other boys had been listening to the converation, too.

You can't send me somewhere I already live, Zabuza. Rico'ki didn't bother watching the kiri-nin leave. Instead fixed on the mist around him. A boy? Looking like that he must have had a rough life even before his bloodline manifested itself. Almost like.... The young man winced and forced away memories in a tensed, teeth gritting, grimace. He quickly shook and molded his face back into its previous emotionless state before walking back into the forest.

Akura smiled as she cleaned a beet. She was also wearing lighter clothing, but not to the extent the others were. She had traded in her large, formal dress for a light purple blouse and a purple skirt that stopped a little before her knees. For some reason, she had fixed her long, wispy hair into pigtails, perhaps to look like the popular manga character Sailor June. This might have been farming, but she was happy to finally be making a difference, to help someone in need.

OOC: I HAVE RETURNED! Computer was unavailable to me for a short time, but now I'm back. Thanks Ultra for doing my character for me. *Appplause for Ultra*

IC:

Izzy finished off the water and started staring at Suki. Mmm...wonderful Suki. He started fantasizing and snapped back to reality. He remembered what he was wearing and what would happen if he got...excited.

"Hey, Riko. I got a question. What do you think of Suki?"

Meanwhile, at the edge of the field that the boys of Special Squad One were working in, the three girls of SS1 were at a large wooden table outside the storage hut. Baskets of grain, cleaned beets, and washed grapes were sitting beside the table to be stored inside the hut later on that day. The three girls were currently hard at work washing and cleaning the other beets, with Suki being the one who placed all of the separated grains into the baskets.

PLOP.

Daio and Akura blinked as Hiroto placed the bucket that had been held by his mouth onto the table. "Fresh water for cleaning."

Daio nodded. "Thank you Hiroto-sensei."

Akura meekly nodded. "Hai, sensei."

The Jonin smiled as he walked away towards the end of the field, where a series of metal pipes that made up the irrigation system were located. As he dumped the buckets of water into the large, cooled vat that held the water for future use, the head farmer - a black-haired, bearded man by the name of Orik - asked, "I know I hired you to help out - and you have helped - but some of your students are looking a bit hot under the collar. Why don't you let them use there own techniques to make things easier?"

"One: to give them a taste of how the people they're going to be protecting live. Two: to give them a good work-out. One can't rely on ninja arts for everything." With that said, Hiroto quickly ran as fast as he could - not using his chakra to dash or leap there - towards the river to refill his buckets.

It was at this moment that Izumo popped his question to Riko.

"I dunno. I'm not really interested in her." Replied Riko.

"I'm gonna go ask her to be my girlfriend." Izzy said.

"YOU WHAT?!" Yelled Riko.

"DUDE! SHHH!" Whispered Izzy. "If sensei comes back and gets mad at me for not working, tell him I went to look for him, okay? But before I ask her...I better..." With that, Izzy waited until Suki wasn't looking, and with a puff of smoke, turned into sensei and ran over to her.

"Hello Suki." Hiroto (Izzy) looked down at her. "What do you think of that Izumo, huh?" He hoped this would work and that Hiroto wouldn't see him doing this.

Diao arched an eyebrow, but before she could say anything akura nudged her and shook her head.

Suki was surprised that the sensei was asking this kind of question, and then a quick glance at the field and a headcount confirmed her suspicion
"he's alright I supposes, she said in feigned boredom, but that genosuke hmm? he's something special"

Izzy as Hiroto cocked an eyebrow. Dammit. So she likes Gen, and he only got an okay.

"How 'bout you Diao? What do you think of him?"

After he asked, he thought to himself "This is gonna be a no. Why don't any of them want to go out with me?! All I want is a girlfriend. All I want is someone to care. My parents abandoned me, and my friends don't get it."

Riko sighed. Izzy had transformed into Hiroto-sensei, had stopped working, and was now conducting what was likely poor espionage.

Riko was getting bored, too.

"Shiranui Izumo." Hiroto's voice came from behind the transformed Izzy. "Uh..." Diao and Suki were staring at the two Hirotos(even though they had both deduced the previous was a fake), then suddenly got pissed. "IZZY!" Izzy transformed back into himself out of shock, and ran off as quick as he could. Hiroto smiled.

Izzy ran back to where the group had worked. "Crap, I got caught... I'm never gonna hear the end of this!" Genonosuke raised an eyebrow. He had seen Riko sneak off, too. "Wait a minute, where's Riko?" Genonosuke asked, trying to fit it together. "Uh, BEHIND you, dude?" came Izzy's reply. Indeed, Riko was still standing behind Genonosuke, holding his hoe and stretching. "...Oh. I guess I was wrong, then." The two boys quickly got back to work, Izzy more so than before. Riko smiled as he slipped unnoticed back to where he planted his Bunshin, and tried to dispell the jutsu with as minimal smoke as possible. Hiroto-sensei won't be appreciative that we took breaks to goof off with our jutsus... I didn't see him around, but there's no telling with that guy. Riko smiled as he hoed the row he was on. But I think his sense of humor is starting to rub off. Maybe...

Meanwhile, Akura watched Riko-Hiroto walk off. There's something not quite right about that Hiroto-sensei either... He feels different, just like Izzy did. Akura thought, and from the look on Diao's face, she had noticed too. I don't have a bloodline limit like Diao... How am I able to feel these things? She put her last beet in the bin, and went to work on the grain.

Later that day, as the sun began to set, eight sweaty and tired Genin (well, the boys were pretty much the only ones who were sweaty) gathered in front of Yagami Hiroto and Orik in front of the main storage hut.

Hiroto smiled as he looked at Orik. "Well, we've done as we've been hired to do; planted all the seeds for the summer crop, cleaned and stored the harvested spring crop, and put enough water into the irrigation system for the next month. And in one day for that matter."

Yeah, and we nearly broke our backs doing so, thought Kai with a groan as he rubbed his neck.

Orik nodded. "Yes...I'm impressed to say the least. I'm certain you guys got a good workout."

Riko smiled inwardly; he intended to weigh himself once he got home. Genonosuke, however, was still irritated; why couldn't they have used their ninja powers? They would've been done much sooner.

The head farmer suddenly handed a large wad of bills to Hiroto. "Payment for services rendered."

The eight Genin boggled at the sight of all of those bills; that was at least a thousand dollars right there!

Hiroto nodded as he grabbed the wad. "Much obliged." As Orik walked away to lay off the other farm workers for the night, the Jonin looked at all eight of his ninja. "So...anyone learn anything today?"

That I need to be a bit more smooth in picking up the girl, thought Izzy before he said, "That hard work is hard..."

"Right you are!" joyously chirped the Jonin. "The people you've all met today are like those you'll be protecting from now on. Although we ninja are the protectors of this village, the normal folk are its life-blood." He pocketed the bills in his vest's pocket before saying, "All right...we have another D-Rank mission tomorrow. Report to the Ninja Academy at noon, and I'll take you all there. You can dress normally if you wish. Special Squad One, you're dismissed...but hold on. There's something I have to do first." A wicked grin came to his face. "Earlier, I sensed someone's chakra flow increase...the sign of a jutsu being used."

He poined at Riko and Izumo, causing the two to pale. "You two." He grabbed the both of them by the shirt collar and threw them high into the air.

"AAAAAAAAAGH!"

Hiroto fell on his back and held his feet up as the two Genin descended.

PLOMP.

Both of them landed butt-first on the Jonin's feet, one for each of them.

Cue the spinning.

Genonosuke sweatdropped as both Riko and Izzy were dropped onto the ground, dizzy as could be. On one hand, he was upset that tomorrow brought another D-Rank mission. On the other, he was sort of happy to see Riko getting spun around again.

Hiroto chuckled as he stood up. "Next time, don't use a jutsu, even if it's for fun." It was at this moment that a basket that sat outside of the storage hut disappeared in a puff of smoke, replaced by a Shadow Clone of the Jonin. Riko paled; So THAT'S how he knew what jutsu was used and who used it...that shadow clone's been there, hiding as a basket all day!

"Now...you are ALL dismissed. For real." As the clone disappeared, Hiroto leapt away. He was last seen running over the village wall before disappearing beyond. Destination: Hokage's palace.

OOC: N/M and fixed

Akura paused a moment as she and Riko were walking; Genonosuke had gone to the local sushi shop as a treat and to hang out with his friends. "Riko-kun...?" "Huh?" "Do you think... I'm any good?" Oh, great. This again? I can't believe how little faith she has in herself... "...You have areas that could be better, but I don't think anyone should expect any more of you than you're giving. You're trying your best, giving it your all!" Akura shook her head. "Thank you, but... I don't think I AM doing my best at all... I need to train..." She looked at the side of the street; the reason she had stopped. There was a newspaper vendor there, closing up his shop for the night. "Excuse me, sir?" The man turned, and took his pipe out of his mouth. "Yes?" The irritation in his voice was apparent, as was his expression as he saw Akura. "...May I borrow a sheet of paper and a pencil?" The man dug for a moment, then found the materials and handed them to her. "Thank you sir!" "Hmph." Akura put the paper against the wall and scribbled a note down. Dear mother, coming in late, stopping by Riko's house for training. Love, Akura Akura handed the pencil back to the man, and folder the paper in the style of a crane. Riko, at this point, had become interested in her activities. "Henge no jutsu!" she proclaimed, with the crane cupped between her hand seal. Poof. The crane vanished in a puff of smoke, and a pigeon flew forth. Riko's eyes bulged. W-wha? Did she just transform an inanimate object into the likeness of a living creature? Heh. Guess there's a lot I don't know, even about basic ninjutsu... "Riko-kun..." Akura said, with determination, "I want to be better. I want to become a Jonin... Like my father was... Todaichi Bachiwaka, one of the village's elite water combat specialists. I want his spirit to be proud of me... I want to inherit his legacy and surpass him, no matter what it takes!" Her voice had progressively become more steady and fierce. "Most of all... I want to leave my mark in the village; in the world. I want to be more than the "possessed girl" with the dishonored mother!" Akura looked at Riko, and found he was smiling. "You finally did it. You've overcome your self-esteem problem!" he said. "I've always told you that was all it was stopping you... Glad to see you finally listened to me." He grinned. They started to walk home together, but they bumped smack into a boy about of about seven. "Oh! My sincerest apologies great ninja!" the bowl-haired boy cried. Akura and Riko sweatdropped. They had heard of this kid before: Rock Lee. The kid was strong for his age, but he was considered horrible even among younger ninja cadets because of his inability to do the simplest ninjutsu or genjutsu. Some thought people were expecting too much of the young boy at this age, but more experienced ninja could already tell the boy was not adept for full ninja combat. Rock Lee punched the air, and proclaimed, "I am currently training, so forgive me for not being able to talk! I must complete my 500th lap of the village post-haste! This is number 478! Here I go!" The child suddenly dashed past them with blinding speed. "Did he say... 500 laps of the village?" Akura thought aloud, "The whole thing? We ARE near the wall..." "Who knows, with him? Taijutsu's the only thing he has... ...Man, it feels bad." "What does?" "No, nevermind..." Riko thought sadly, It feels sad that someone with his determination will probably never be a good ninja... I couldn't have said that out loud to Akura... Riko smiled again. "But you know? He has spirit, like you!" Akura blushed.

Akura and Riko stood in the Chakuya clan dojo. "So you wanted to train, huh?" Riko mused. "What do you want to train?" Akura frowned, and said, "A little bit of everything." Riko shook his head. "I probably could only teach you rudimentary Taijutsu, and we don't have the materials in here for Ninpou... Oh, well. We'll do what we can. First, let's get Taijutsu out of the way." Riko popped his neck, and put up his fists. Akura gulped, and followed suit. "First thing you have to remember with Taijutsu is that chakra isn't necessarily required. Techniques are performed with the user's physical stamina, and can be supplemented with chakra." Riko twisted his foot, then threw himself at Akura. Akura drew her arms in front of her face as he got close, and he laughed as he stopped. "Aw, c'mon! I wasn't going to hit you!" She lowered her arms, and smiled feebly. He stepped back, and stetched his leg muscles. "Don't tell Genonosuke this, but I've really been working on my speed lately." He grinned, and focused chakra into his feet and legs. Within an instant, Akura felt a light tug at her pigtails and they fell apart as Riko leaped back in front of her with her hair-bands. "Oh, Riko-kun!! It took me forever to get my hair like that! Well, not really, but that's not what matters!" Riko smiled, then was suddenly behind Akura again, and fixed her hair back. "The two most important things for Taijutsu are speed and awareness. You have to be able to see your opponent's fast moves in order to dodge and counter them with your own blinding speed. Power's nice, but if you can't land a powerful hit and the enemy gets a vantage, it could mean death." Riko playfully poked Akura's armpit with one of his kunai. "Ow, Riko-kun!!" He returned to the center of the room, and tossed his kunai aside. "First Taijutsu lesson! Chakra enhancement! Focus your chakra into your feet, and land a hit on me. It doesn't matter how powerful. But remember, speed is the key!" Riko smirked. Just listen to me... Like I'm an expert on the subject. Yeah, right. Akura concentrated, then moved at Riko. Yikes! Faster than I thought! Akura was on him in an instant, throwing rapid blows. Riko blocked them with ease, but he didn't count on the next move. Thwap. She had nailed him in the side with a very light kick, something similar to what he did to Genonosuke that one time. "Huh... Nice, Akki!" "Thank you, Riko-kun!"

She backed off, and he resumed talking. "We'd go over the weak points of the body next, but I'm not sure I even know that much. Haha... Let's go over Ninjutsu next." Riko looked Akura up and down for a moment, then muttered, "That jutsu you used yesterday, Akki... I thought it was a Genjutsu at first, but I guess it could have been a Ninjutsu. I don't know how it worked..." Akura smiled shakily. "Me neither, Riko-kun, so it wouldn't help to go over it..." "Maybe not right now.. But..." Riko thought a minute. "I know... Something simple. Directing shuriken flight. You could probably curve the flight of a shuriken a little, right?" Shick The dojo door slid open, with Genonosuke in its maw. "Hell, Riko, even I can do more than curve its flight..." Genonosuke pulled a shuriken out of its back, and threw it at Akura. "A-a-a-ahhh!" She managed to scream before the shuriken stopped dead in mid-air, then flew back to Genonosuke and latching to his left-hand wristband. "Is that a metal jutsu, Geno?" Riko asked, surprised. "Yup. I've learned the secret of magnetism, and once I get better..." Genonosuke patted his katana. "I'll be able to throw THIS sucker around!" Akura winced at the thought. "Uh, let's just skip the shuriken, Akki." Riko said, and then thought. "Actually, let's skip ninjutsu entirely. You need to practice with what you're good at before anything else. Genjutsu time."

Riko smiled, then nodded. "You probably know more than me, so hit me with your best!" Akura sweatdropped. That certainly wasn't true... "Pretend I'm your enemy, Akki, and fool me with something. Maybe use your Genjutsu to take the appearance of a monster, and make us wet our pants!" Akura thought about it for a moment, then formed a hand seal and muttered something Riko couldn't hear. Suddenly, the room burst into flame. What the?! Riko's eyes widened as he looked at Akura, who was completely on fire. This heat... I feel it... I can smell the smoke... and it's getting in my eyes.. If this is a Genjutsu, this is a pretty damn convincing one! Akura opened her eyes, which had turned a blood red. She began to grow in size, becoming nearly triple what she had been. All this time, her features changed. Horns grew from her head, her skin paled further to become whiter than the moon, and fangs began to grow from her maw. The character for "Acceptance" became visible on her forehead. Her skin sprouted fur and scales alike, and a tail slithered from under her skirt. Riko was horrified as Akura's tail struck a practice dummy and tossed it aside. Huh? But... this is a Genjutsu... Akura reached for Riko, grabbed him, and lifted him towards her gaping mouth...

"Kai!"

The world flashed as Riko managed to perform the Cancel jutsu, with difficulty. He was lying on the dojo's floor, and he looked up. Akura was standing over him, worried and with tears in her eyes, and Genonosuke was also on the floor and looked like he was having fits. "Akki... What WAS that? That Genjutsu was so real..." Akura was at tears at this. "I don't know... I, I was going by what you said, and I... I... Oh, Riko-kun..." Tears streamed down her face, and Riko tried to comfort her. Finally, Genonosuke snapped out of the jutsu, and sat up, amazed. "W-was that an ONI?! Our clan's battled things like that from antiquity!"

Riko finally managed to calm Akura down, and smiled. "Let's try something a... little less potent now, k?" Akura sniffed, smiled, and nodded. Their training resumed as Genonosuke nervously fiddled with his shuriken jutsu. He tried to express his thought silently... Oni take different shapes, but there's no mistaking what that was... How did she know about them? There hasn't been any trouble with them for... hell, I don't know. But before we were born, I know that. And that jutsu was powerful, just like the one she used yesterday... There's something fishy going on here.

xxxx

A Shinobi stood upon a hill overlooking Konohagakure. His chilling green eyes pierced the night sky as he looked in the general direction of the Chakuya residence. "...This is not good. Not good at all... I'll have to report this back to the Masters."

The Shinobi was dressed in a large, black cloak that conveniently hid most of his features. Just from the aura he emitted, you could tell he was a Jonin. His face was hidden by a mask resembling a fish, but one could see his flowing blue hair glint next to the mask. Strapped to his sides were very two large dosukunai, a type of kunai with a slightly curved blade that is two knives, but joined at the ring to forn an acute angle. The weapons were large enough for each one to be gripped easily by the ring, to be wielded similar to katars. This did not matter to The Shinobi, however. He had not fought a true enemy in years, for he was too valuable to send on assassination mission, and his masters had little other combat use for him. The Shinobi knew, however, that it might change soon. Despite this lack of practice, he was still very formidable. The Shinobi found the stream he had traveled upon to reach this place to begin with, and hopped in it. Without trouble, his swift swimming took him out of the country of Fire within a few minutes.

OOC: Yeah...definitely a plothole. I typed it without thinking. >.> *fixes*

I think we should now put a definite foot on the timeline here; so far, it's only been alluded to that the time this RP is set in between the beginning of the Naruto anime and the sealing of the Nine Tailed Fox, which is a period of twelve years. So without further ado...

xxxx

Yagami Hiroto calmly glanced upward at Monument Range. He had long since delivered the money to the Hokage's office, and had recieved a scroll holding their next D-Rank missions for the week.

A sigh escaped his mouth as he gazed at the bust of the Fourth Hokage, more well-known as the mighty Yellow Flash of Konoha. He could tell - not only from knowing where it was to begin with - because the wind brushing against the rocky face 'sounded' different than the Third's, the Second's, or the First's. He could tell.

As the moon reflected off his hitai-ate, he muttered, "Six years since you died to save Konohagakure...I wonder if these children will ever have the impact you did?"

The Jonin calmly leapt away; he wanted to sleep before tomorrow's mission began.

xxxx

OOC: Hear that everyone?

THIS RP TAKES PLACE SIX YEARS BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE ANIME/MANGA.

This would make Kakashi 20, Sasuke/Naruto/Sakura 6, Rock Lee 7, Haku 9, Zabuza 20, and the Third Hokage 63. Just in case anyone's curious.

Riko looked up as something flew past the window and landed with a thud
Kai was outside holding a very large shuriken
"HA!, nice try Suki!"
he wound back and hurled the shuriken at a nearby rooftop, and instantly it began to curve and attracted straight to Suki's hand
"gah!" kai slumped
he turned and seemed to notice riko and akura for the first time "hey guys, wanna play?"

ooc: time for NINJA SHURIKEN FRISBEE FURY! the aim of the game is to throw the shuriken so no-one can catch it, this is done by usng jutsu to confuse you opponent by replicating te shuriken, repelling it, attracting it ,or just throwing it as high as you can, but your opponents can do the same in the pursuit of the shuriken

Akura stared at the two Genin standing on the roof. Even though the Chakuya residence had somewhat of a decent portion of private land behind it, they were in an area close to the other residences in town, though you couldn't tell from the back.

"T-throwing shuriken? What kind of game is that?!" Akura asked, nervous. Riko frowned. "Sorry, guys. Akura and I are training different jutsus... Ask Genonosuke." Genonosuke looked up, "Huh, what?!" Riko smiled. "That shuriken thing you did before... You'd fit right in." Genonosuke sweatdropped. It wasn't that it didn't sound fun, it was that... he had a secret. He had a crush on Suki. He was normally flirtacious with different girls in his year, but this was a bit different... He had mentally slapped himself after the incident with the flaming hair on the Genin test. And now... The only reason I haven't had a girlfriend is because of my father... He wanted to engage me to some cousin to keep the bloodline pure. Genonosuke wrinkled his nose. Oh, what does he know, anyway? When I lead the clan, I'll do it MY way. I'll be damned if he forces me to marry someone I don't even know! His mind soon wandered back to the situation at hand, and as he looked at Suki... "Alright, fine." He called up to Suki, "Don't expect me to go easy on you!" He leaped out of the window as Suki threw the shuriken, and simply smiled as it flew past him. He performed the magnetic jutsu he had taught himself, and it flew back, landing in his hand. "My turn. Oh, and don't worry. I probably won't use that one again." He focused his chakra, grinned for a moment, then considered... He grabbed the large shuriken with both hands, and formed a hand seal while holding it. "I'll use Riko's jutsu! Take this! Shuriken bunshin no jutsu!" Riko smirked as Genonosuke threw the shuriken, and it split into two shuriken: One for Kai, one for Suki. But only one was real...

OOC edit:: I don't have anything against advancing at this point. Smeggedoff might, though... This doesn't seem to be an important event, but if there is something in it that needs to be referenced, it could be done so in a flashback. =O This is assuming everyone but Smeggdoff posts and Ultra feels like moving the RP foward again.

OOC: Anyhow...I was hoping Wonderbat would post a bit beforehand, but we can't wait any longer. ONWARD!

xxxx

Kai quickly dove down, avoiding the shuriken coming at him. The metallic star zoomed above his head...and dissipated when it came into contact with wall of a nearby building.

Suki quickly pulled out a kunai and threw it, pinging it off the incoming shuriken. The two weapons fell to the ground with a clatter. The scantily-clad girl smiled. "There. Satisfied?"

All that and more, thought Genonosuke with a smirk. And his father thought this girl would pollute the bloodline. HA!

Meanwhile, Hiroto - who had been en route to his place of residence - looked down from the rooftop at the chatty Genin. A smile came to his face. Children will be children. He disappeared as night continued onward.

xxxx

NEXT DAY!

xxxx

The eight Genin of SS1 calmly waited outside of the Ninja Academy. It was noon, and they were all there as told to.

Izzy frowned as he looked at the ground warily. "Think the sensei will try another move like he did yesterday?"

"Perhaps," muttered Ryu.

Suddenly...

"Baaaaanzzzzaaaaaaaaiiii!!!"

Everyone looked up and saw Hiroto falling toward them, belly first. Kai yelped. "IS HE DOING A BELLY FLOP?!"

Despite their sudden shock and confusion, the Jonin fell towards them. Before the Genin could do anything, the ninja reached them.

It dissipated into nothingness upon conflict with the ground.

Riko blinked. "...a clone?"

"Yep."

The eight Genin yelped again as the real Hiroto spoke from behind them. Izzy nearly roared, "Come on sensei! Quit giving us heart attacks!"

The Jonin innocently shrugged. "Who? Me? Nah..."

"So," said Genonosuke, holding Kintetsu with a tight hand. "We're not going to be doing any crappy farming today, are we?"

Hiroto shook his head. "No. The mission for today is something FAR more challenging. Ever hear of the Council of Elders?"

Daio's eyes narrowed. "They're the group of elected officials who are the liaisons between the Fire Country government and the Hokage, right?" Hiroto's nod said it all. Genonosuke's smile grew. "All right! Have we been selected to be their bodyguards? Escort them to the country's capitol?"

Hiroto smiled as he reached into his vest pocket...and pulled out a baby rattle. "Our mission is to babysit the collective grandchildren of the Council...which comes to sixteen kids."

Genonosuke stood still. "...you're joking."

"Oh, I most certainly am not," replied Hiroto as he shook the rattle. A sarcastic tone came to his voice. "Ga ga goo goo."

Genonosuke could only facefault.

xxxx

ONE WEEK LATER!

xxxx

Sunset. Outside the Ninja Academy. Special Squad One.

Genonosuke slumped to the ground. Not out of tiredness...but out of boredom. All of the missions from the previous week had utterly bored and annoyed him to death. "Babysitting. LAME. Chasing rabbits that escaped from a public official's daughter. LAME. Delivering goods from Orik's farm to village stores. LAME. Helping out Aunt Kukuru at the main library...not so bad, BUT STILL LAME."

Kai grumbled out of concurrence. "No kidding. We're ready for a real mission! I've had enough of seeing my sister suck at stupid stuff."

"That rabbit was VERY fast!" retorted Diao. "Besides, you're horrible with babies!"

"I'm not good with kids!"

Hiroto sighed. "Please guys, enough bickering." He calmly put the payments from Kukuru into his vest pocket. "I know you want to put your skills to the test, but D-rank missions are pretty much all you can hope to get for now."

Riko frowned at Genonosuke's frustration. He could understand why their missions were - for lack of a better word - 'lame'...but there was a small part of him that empathized with the Genin. After all, he also wanted to go on bigger and better missions too.

Izzy scratched his reddish-brown hair lazily. "Eh, D-rank missions are fine by me." At least I'm always in close proximity to Suki and Daio.

"Feh, whatever," grumbled Genonosuke. Ryu was merely quiet; he had no opinion to add. After all, he was a ninja; and he was expected to perform his missions without argument. He probably grasped that concept better than any of the other Genin.

Suddenly, a messenger pigeon swooped downward from above, dropping a scroll. The Jonin calmly grabbed the scroll, undid the binding twine, and looked at the message within. He traced the message with his fingers, feeling the grooves inscribed by the ink pen used to write it...

If he still had eyes, they would've widened out of surprise.

However, all he could do was laugh; fate had a very queer sense of hummor.

Akura blinked as their sensei laughed. "Um...sir...what's so funny?"

He tapped the scroll against his face before pocketing it. "Looks like your wish has been granted Genonosuke...tomorrow at 10 AM, we'll be meeting the Hokage personally for a mission briefing." This statement alone caused the Genin to gape; they were going to meet the Third PERSONALLY! "...and according to this note, it's B-rank."

The eight Genin paled out of shock. B-Rank?! They had only been Genin for one week! And they were already asked to do Chuunin-level B-rank missions?! Shiranui Izumo quickly yelled, "Whoa whoa whoa! We're only Genin, and NEW ones at that! We're not supposed to go on C-Rank missions yet, let alone B-rank!"

Yagami Hiroto smiled. "It's because we're Special Squad One...our mission criteria's no doubt going to be a bit more advanced than that of others...and not only that, but you're all very talented Genin. I don't know the details of this mission yet...but that's what the briefing's for." The Jonin calmly leapt backwards onto the roof of the Ninja Academy. "Go home. Eat dinner. Sleep as much as you can. Awaken. Eat breakfast. Come to the Hokage's Palace." The Jonin immediately vanished in the waning light of dusk.

Moments passed in silence.

Then, Genonosuke and Kai both let out a loud 'WOOO!' of joy.

ooc: I didn't want to do anything hugely involving, so dropping it to advance the plot is fine by me

ic: Kai and genonosuke were dancing around each pother, Diao rolled her eyes and decided to exit, stage left before she was dragged into..Kai grabbed her by her arm and began to swing her round, and Geno, in the enthusiasm began to do the same
BAM! BAM!

two black eyes later.....

Kai tapped Riko on the shoulder "hey, you know that water clone thing? can you show me how it's done?"

I almost lost it today. Because of a damn kid again. If I don't focus on control not only of chakra, but of my mind and emotions as well, it will happen again.

Rico sat on a small bench, the area was covered in mist as many parts of the village were. He seemed focused on his hands, intently staring at them or maybe through them.

In order to become powerful you must remove everything that can harm you. This includes, obviously, your enemies. It also includes those more powerful than you, but you need to destroy them so you can become more powerful anyway. You must also remove pain, that was easily achieved through following the path of Tengoku. Finally you must remove emotion, or else you are still able to be injured mentally.

The young man winced at the last one before muttering aloud, "Damn that old man. Damn Hiroto. Damn those kids." He gritted his teeth and glared at the ground.

I can't stop protecting them. I can only seem to force myself to destroy those on even levels with me, people weaker, like those kids, like that kid, I have no hope of severing the restrictions of the Tengoku arts on. I'll always protect them and I still can't prevent myself from doing it. Damn. At this rate I'll never become more powerful. Everything else can be attained now but that one stupid flaw. Damn them. Damn Konoha.

Riko shook his head. "Sorry. The first time I did that was a fluke... I might could do it again, but I haven't practiced, and who knows what I might do to myself THIS time if I do it improperly... Last time I damaged my insides... I could possibly kill myself if I try the same thing again now." Riko thought about what training he did though, and smiled inwardly. He sure hadn't been goofing off in the past week, and had even taught himself a new technique... Kai stood for a moment, then nodded, and the two began another conversation.

Meanwhile...

"So nice of you to come by, Kukuru." Bachiwaka Juuli smiled as she poured herself and the purple-haired librarian a glass of sake. Kukuru stared at the glass for a moment, then sipped. "The reason I came, Mrs. Bachiwaka..." "Juuli, please." "Yes, of course. Juuli... I may not have lived in here in ...Konohagakure for very long, but there is something about your daughter..." Juuli blinked. "Akura? Please tell me you're not another one of those people who thinks I met a demon and-" "No, Juuli. Nothing of that sort. It's just that... I've ...gone over various lore in the library, and it seems your ancestor, Bachiwaka Chuusi, also possessed the same features as your daughter." Juuli's eyes narrowed at this. "With all due respect, Kukuru, we have a portrait of my ancestor. I know what she looks like." Kukuru shook her head. "That portrait was painted by your ancestor's cousin, Chiyao. He painted in the blue hair and emerald eyes where her startling features were supposed to be... He did that so she would be immortalized as a Bachiwaka, not as a demon." Juuli said nothing, knowing that Kukuru spoke the truth. Kukuru continued. "Your daughter had a startling resemblence to Chuusi, and we both know Chuusi's cirumstances..." Juuli's eyes flared. "My daughter is NOT Oni-kin!" "And neither was Chuusi. There were special circumstances involved, not unlike those of six years ago, though I was not here to see them. Yes, don't look surprised. I only came to this village a year ago, but I've heard the tale whispered about the boy Naruto. It's just a shame people treat him like they do... The same thing was done to Chuusi, you know." Juuli was silent for a moment, then asked, "An Oni... a lesser demon was sealed inside of her?" "Yes. But the demon was later exorcised by the Chakuya clan and destroyed. Or so everyone thought... It might be possible that the Oni's essence lived on through a demonic taint in the bloodline." "Oh god..." "Do not worry. If this is the case, then I am sure there will be no need for concern. The boys who are with her are of the Chakuya clan, and Riko is of both bloodlines. If anyone can help her, it's them." Juuli looked at her sake glass, which had already been drained of its second filling. She poured herself more. "Kukuru... Will she be alright?" Kukuru nodded. "I believe there is no need to be panicked." Juuli looked into Kukuru's eyes, pleading, "You must tell no one of this! I beg you..." Kukuru smiled, and said, "I will not. And... I'm sorry, but I must take my leave before I become drunk." Kukuru stood up, shakily, and began to leave. Juuli thought for a moment, then asked, "Kukuru?" "Yes?" "I know this is sudden, but... you said you weren't from Konohagakure... Where are you from?" Kukuru paused a moment, then said,

"Konohamaru."

and she left.

OOC: Named after the village yes...but if it's just some cryptic way to say 'Konohagakure', then...aw never mind, you have some reason I'm sure.

I'll post later on tonight.

And just for the record, the 'ancient' bit was added in the English dub. The 'Konoha' in Konohamaru's name comes from the village name 'Konohagakure'. Seeing as how the dub refers to the village as the 'Village Hidden in the Leaves', it wouldn't be surprising to have them refer to 'Konoha' as the 'ancient name' for the village.

Izumo's Jutsu List&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp
Henge no Jutsu (Transformation Technique)

Type: E-rank, Supplementary

The user assumes the appearance of another person or animal. This is one of the basic jutsu taught at the Ninja Academy.

Joro Senbon (It's Raining Needles From Heaven)

Type: C-rank, Offensive, Mid-range (5-10m)

A barrage of needles fly at the enemy from sockets in an umbrella that has been flung into the air. They come at the enemy from all directions and are controlled by chakra to increase accuracy. These needles have been known to have the power to pierce 5 mm of steel.

Kakuremino no Jutsu (Cloak of Invisibility Technique)

Type: E-rank, Supplementary

With this jutsu one uses a cloak or piece of cloth to make oneself blend in with the background, rendering oneself invisible.

Kanashibari no Jutsu (Temporary Paralysis Technique)

Type: D-rank, Supplementary, Short to mid-range (0-10m)

Used to cause one's opponent to lose the advantage of movement. Freezing them in their tracks, this Jutsu creates an opening for a more dangerous attack.

Kage Shuriken no Jutsu (Shadow Shuriken Technique)

Type: D-rank, Offensive, Mid- to long range (5+m)

With this Technique, the User is able to throw multiple shuriken (Usually only two or possibly three) in which the shuriken after the first are hidden within the shadow of the first Shuriken. This makes it seem as though only one shuriken was thrown, so that when the opponent dodges the first, he is (Theoretically...) hit by the second when he dodges.

Oiroke no Jutsu (Ninja Centerfold)

Type: E-rank, Supplementary

This is simply a Henge used to transform the user into a beautiful, nude woman; if the user is male, the woman's appearance is a beautiful, female version of his appearance.

Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu (Demonic illusion: False surroundings technique)

Type: C-rank, Supplementary, All ranges

Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu is a simple Genjutsu which changes the appearance of a nearby object.

Narakumi no Jutsu (Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique)

Type: D-rank, Supplementary, Short range (0-5m)

Narakumi no Jutsu is a Genjutsu technique that causes its target to see a horrifying vision. The ninja will use the rat hand seal to cause a circle of leaves to spin and envelop the target and then fall away. Once cast the world will appear normal to the target until they see the illusion.

That took me a long time to make. I even made it perfect on here, than somehow, ezboard messed it up and I didn't copy. Oh well. That's just the beginning of the list and mostly Ninjutsu. Then I have to pick the Gen and Tai Jutsu.

And let's not forget his 'Ninpou; Bakushi-endan' technique I gave him.

The only possible exception to the list given would be 'Oiroke no jutsu', more commonly known as 'Sexy no jutsu'...but I have a way of working around this. ;)

There's also the 'Joro Senbon'; that's a technique of the ninja from the Hidden Rain Village. I can also work around this though. On another note, it literally means 'Sprinkling Needles'.

One last note; considering the varied group of Special Squad One, it would probably be best if Izzy's Taijutsu and Genjutsu skills weren't as well-developed as his Ninjutsu skills; of the two, Genjutsu would probably be preferred, seeing as how you've already listed some.

xxxx

Inside Izzy's room, he stood in front of a mirror, measuring himself. Along with his usual outfit, several pouches filled with shuriken, kunai, smoke bombs, and an odd item: senbon...or more commonly known as acupuncture needles. They were reloads for the umbrella strapped to his back.

The umbrella had once belonged to a Rain ninja...key word being 'used' to. Izzy had had the strange fortune of finding it in a river a few years ago whilst walking outside of the village (little did he know that the umbrella had drifted down stream from the corpse of a Rain Jonin who had been killed before even reaching the village walls; the Leaf Jonin on patrol who had fought and killed the Rain ninja, ironically, had been Kanshisha William). To his delight, he had discovered that the umbrella was actually a hidden weapon; it had spring launchers inside that could launch one hundred needles. It had taken about a year of practicing in secret...but he was able to effectively use the 'Joro Senbon'...or the 'Sprinkling Needles' technique.

He tied his hitai-ate around his right leg. The image was complete. "Okay...now one last thing..." He performed one kata. "SEXY NO JUTSU!"

A cloud of smoke erupted from his body. When the smoke cleared, Izzy was now a naked brunette. He struck a pose, cooing. Moments later, he returned to normal. Yeah...that'll make one heck of a distraction.
He was as ready as could be.

So with that knowledge, he quickly disrobed to only his boxers and went to bed.

Meanwhile, staring from a window, was a blonde-haired boy with whisker marks on his cheeks.

That was only a stupid transformation technique...but he made himself look like a busty girl! A wicked grin came to the boy's face. Heh heh...if I can master the Henge...then I could use that 'sexy no jutsu' to REALLY make an impression on Iruka-sensei! The blonde student giggled as he ran off.

And thus did Shiranui Izumo unknowingly give Uzumaki Naruto the inspiration for his most notorious technique. :cuckoo

OOC: With our ninja most likely in combat soon, I guess this kinda list should be made. ^_^;; Here's the techniques Riko, Akura, and Genonosuke have. Oh, and Supershadow, continuity error! <_< Naruto supposedly invented the Sexy Jutsu(Ninja Centerfold) technique, but he's six right now. ...And Ultra fixed it. Nevermind. =P

Riko's list:

Suisuberu no Jutsu: Riko's water gliding technique. This allows Riko to move nearly three times his normal, unaided running speed on water, when he's built up his acceleration.

Henge no Jutsu: The basic transformation technique. Riko can copy a target's appearance and maintain it with little difficulty, given his control.

Bunshin no Jutsu: Basic illusory bunshin. Riko can make up to four of these at a time with no difficulty whatsoever.

Kawarimi no Jutsu: Replacement jutsu. Riko's particularly sneaky with this one, though he needs something to use in his place when he does it.

Shuriken Bunshin no Jutsu: Riko's (supposedly) self-invented technique of duplicating a shuriken with illusion ala the Bunshin no jutu.

Suiton; Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu: Water clone technique. Riko has only pulled this off once, and it's unlikely he ever will again before seeing it used in combat properly or having it showed to him.

Suiton; Mizubooru no Jutsu: Water sphere jutsu. Riko suspends a small ball of water in the air and holds it there. This was used as chakra training before, but is now the start of his newest technique, Mizuboorudan no jutsu.

Suiton; Mizuboorudan no Jutsu: It was only natural Riko create a technique like this sooner or later. Focusing the power of his chakra, Riko can infuse a ball of water or two with chakra, and then send it flying, causing a moderate explosion on impact.

Suiton; Mizutorisoeru no Jutsu: Riko's water stream technique. Using this, Riko can create a stream of water that erupts in a burst, or in the variation used in his training, can form a light, continuous stream of water that can be stood on.

Akura's jutsu:

Henge no jutsu: Same as before, but Akura can use an unknown variation that causes a transformed object to take on the appearance and movement of a lifeform for a duration of about five minutes.

Bunshin no jutsu: Same as before.

Unknown Invisibility Jutsu: Akura, in a panicked state, bent the light-waves around her with her chakra alone and thus turned herself invisible. She has tried to duplicate this technique, but can not accomplish more than her hands.

Unknown Illusion Genjutsu: Akura, reacting on instinct to Riko's words, tries to create a Genjutsu with nasty results. Riko and Genonosuke percieve her to transform into an Oni, while the house burns around them in an all-too-realistic fashion. It may be more than just Akura being involved in this Genjutsu... In any case, she nearly pissed her own pants when she used it; she ain't using it again anytime soon.

Genonosuke's jutsu:

Bunshin no jutsu: Genonosuke can create ONE illusion of himself at a time. Barely enough to pass that particular test.

Kawarimi no Jutsu: Genonosuke can't use this one with too much skill either, but pulled it off perfectly in the academy by sheer dumb luck.

Shuriken Bunshin no Jutsu: A slight variation of Riko's jutsu, Genonosuke can only create one shuriken bunshin at a time. This leads uneffectiveness in most situations.

Kinzoku; Kinkumikaeru no jutsu: Genonosuke used this technique to change the shape of Kintetsu, but with horrid results. He's been working on it, though...

Kinzoku; Hishoukinkansei no jutsu: While not impressive at first, this shuriken controlling jutsu has the potential to actually be better than normal shuriken chakra-based manipulation. Doesn't mean it is now, though. Got to leave it to Genonosuke to make something simple more difficult than it really is. =P

Kinzoku; Kinjiki no jutsu: A technique in which Genonosuke can magnetically charge a metallic object he's touching or wearing, and potentially even the air itself, for short periods (with the metal staying charged longer than, say, the air). So far, he's only used this to direct shuriken more easily, but given time, he could likely use it in conjunction with Kintetsu. He's probably been practicing for that very moment...

Custom Taijutsu: No special techniques, but Genonosuke is very versed in the art of combat, or at least he thinks he is. Truth be told, if any of the other Genin were to fight him, they'd find themselves against a very difficult foe.

OOC: Is the mission going to be really dangerous? I hope so.

IC:

That night, Izumo had a dream. Not a happy dream with Suki in it like they usually were. No This one....

In a forest, surrounded by trees, he sees his parents. needles come at them from the leaves of the trees at all directions. The needles hit them, everywhere. Not a part of them was unouched by needles. Then, they were both pelted by kunai and shuriken. They fell, and the weapons disappeared from their body. Soaked in blood. Then, there was silence.

"MOM! DAD! NO!" He yelled. He looked around and realized that he was alone in the silence of night and that none of it was real. Then again...no one saw his parents after they left him there. They could have been killed.

He got up and poured himself a glass of water. That dream really got to him. He was shaking a bit. He had to relax himself somehow. He decided to go to a hot spring.

Putting on his clothes, he packed a few weapons and made for the hot spring.

Likewise for Ryu, I guess.

Henge no Jutsu: Being a prodigy, Ryu is excellent at this skill. Of course, being himself, he underestimates his own skill at it and doesn't use it often.

Bunshin no Jutsu: Ryu can make many clones of himself, but the Chakra control is weak and if there's much more than 1, the clones are wispy and ethereal.

Ibara Ne Hishigu: This Ninpou has been used with a degree of success in the past, so Ryu has dedicated most of his training to improving his control over it.

Ibara Ne Shiirudo: A variation of the above, Used as a defensive maneuver. Not yet been practically used.

Jurin Bunshin no Jutsu: Think regular clone skill, but applied to every tree within a certain area. And because of Ryu's natural affiliation with wood, takes a surprisingly small amount of chakra. However, the clones are still just trees and can't do much as of yet, so it's only used to hide oneself or set up the next attack.

Jurin Aamii no Jutsu: Causes all 'Forest clones' to move around and attack. this can be used to create paths, enclose enemies, or overwhelm with sheer numbers of clones. Has never been used, and Ryu doesn't know he can use it yet.

Yudoudan no Jutsu: Ryu charges awooden arrow with Chakra, then looses it from his bow; the arrow will find and strike the enemy, no matter where they are. Practiced extensively.

I may use a more complete list later.

Genonosuke sat on his bed, enjoying his newest issue of Mobile Suit Gun-Gun, a manga of fantastic imagining about gigantic suits of armor (called robots, or something) that could be manipulated from within without the use of jutsus. It was quite entertaining. The main character, Hiiro Sui, was a warrior of commendable bravery and, as Genonosuke had put it once, he had balls.

Genonosuke stopped his reading to look at Kintetsu. "Kintetsu... the sister sword of Jintetsu. It's always been clan policy to pass Kintetsu on to the heir when he gets old enough to train, and Jintetsu when he matures. ...I wonder when I'll get Jintetsu..." Genonosuke glanced at the pages of Mobile Suit Gun-Gun. "Heh. Hiiro's an awesome warrior... I gotta be more like that... Hiiro's duty to his mission is unfaltering; he'd give his life for his assignment... If I can prove myself on this B mission by giving the same devotion, then maybe father will recognize me as mature enough to get Jintetsu?" Genonosuke thought it over, put the manga away, and slept.

Riko sat in his room, tossing a ball of water from his left hand to his right and back. "I've gotten increasingly better since I became a Genin..." he muttered lowly. "I've even started sparring against Genonosuke again... I'm surprised at how bad I've gotten at physical combat. At least I'm getting better though." Riko cupped the ball of water in his hands, then drank it. "...A B mission, huh? Does the Hokage trust us that much? Hiroto-sensei will be there, most likely, but it's still our squad's mission. I gotta be prepared." Riko looked at his Bo staff, which was hanging on the wall, and then at the shuriken bag he had placed on his dresser. "I wonder how difficult it'll be..."

Akura sat in her bed, grinning. Boy, was everyone going to be surprised tomorrow! She admired herself in the mirror, and smiled. "Aunt Kukuru gave us some purple hair dye for me... She always knew how much I adored her hair color, and now..." Akura beamed at her reflection in the mirror facing her bed. She was honestly happier than she had ever been, with her now beautiful hair dyed. "I don't know why I didn't think of this before! I would have rather had blue, but my eyes don't match..." Akura smiled. Aunt Kukuru was kind beyond all reasons, even though she had been seperated from people for... how long? Akura frowned. She had forgotten the number of years, but it didn't matter. The only thing that did now was her appearance. She still had red eyes, and pale white skin, but with this beautiful hair, it didn't matter. She smiled. "I wonder what Riko will say..."

Akura slept soundly for the first time in a long time.

OOC: I'll go ahead and list the jutsus Hiroto's already demonstrated, but I want his future techniques to be a surprise.

Henge no jutsu - Self-explanatory. Can use it to transform himself into very small objects as well, such as a bird.

Bunshin no jutsu - Regular clone technique. Usually passes this up for the more advanced Kage Bunshin no jutsu.

Kage Bunshin no jutsu - Advanced technique. Produces clones that are actual flesh-and-blood copies.

Noogie no jutsu - Not an actual technique.

Doton; Doryuudan no jutsu - Earth element ninjutsu technique. Creates a dragon out of stone or earth. Can be directed.

Suiton; Sakamaku no jutsu - Water element ninjutsu technique. Creates water from his own chakra and expels it from his mouth in a massive stream.

Konoha Hasai Ashige - Taijutsu technique. Raises his foot above the head before smashing it down on the target. Can break solid rock.

Bakuha Tekken - Taijutsu technique. Concentrates chakra around his fist and slams it into the target; the chakra creates a shockwave that spreads outward by about fifty feet.

Doton; Doruki Gaeshi - Earth element ninjutsu technique. Flips the ground up to form a barrier.

Katon; Hibashira no jutsu - Fire element ninjutsu technique. Creates a blazing column of fire around Hiroto.

Naruboisu no jutsu - Using a built-in whistle inside his gauntlet, he can use his chakra to direct powerful sound waves toward a target.

Hiroto's Taijutsu style focuses on strength, occaisonally using chakra to enhance his blows, and making good use of his kunai, his shuriken, and his arm-blade. His only genjutsu technique now is basically the 'Kai' cancellation technique, as his genjutsu techniques relied upon his eyes. Since losing them, he has focused exclusively on ninjutsu and taijutsu.

And LOL at Mobile Suit Gun-Gun! You win 1000 points for that reference right there!

xxxx

Morning.

Shiake Diao, Shiake Kai, Nyoda Suki, Shiranui Izumo, and Kanshisha Ryu were all waiting outside of the Hokage's Palace; the large, domed building that bore the character for 'Fire' in red.

Suddenly, Diao looked up to see two Chakuya and one Bachiwaka approaching. "They're here...but the girl's white hair...it's purple?"

As the three approached, they could hear them talking.

"Akura...you didn't have to dye your hair."

"But Riko-kun..."

"Eh, what do you know Riko? I think it makes her look better!"

"But Genonosuke, you don't understand...it's what made Akura...well, Akki!"

"But Riko-kun...I like my hair..."

"...I know Akki...it's just I wished you didn't have to feel so bad that you had to."

"Feh. Whatever. I think purple fits her just fine."

(A/N: I'm sure you could tell who's who.)

Suddenly, as the three met with the main group, Izzy said, "So...a B-Rank mission."

"Yep," replied Suki as she stretched her arms.

"So...is everyone ready?" asked Ryu with a calm expression. The other seven Genin nodded as Genonosuke clutched at the hilt of Kintetsu. "As ready as we'll ever be, and THEN some."

"Good."

Everyone looked up to see Hiroto perched on the red archway above the main entrance into the palace. The Jonin leapt down, landing in front of Special Squad One. "Our purpose of creation was to handle missions that required large groups for multi-tasking objectives...and now we're about to see if the creation of this group was worth it. Follow me."

The eight Genini followed their sensei inside.

xxxx

Sarutobi's wizened eyes narrowed as he looked up at the sound of an opening door. A small wisp of smoke trailed upward from his pipe as one man and eight children entered the room. "Aw. Hiroto."

"Hokage-sama," answered the Jonin as he bowed. The eight children followed suit. Yagami Hiroto suddenly stood to the side, giving Sarutobi a full view of the eight Genin.

The Third sighed. "So...you're all part of Special Squad One. Before I explain the mission to you...let me ask one thing: do you all feel like you've been privelaged to join an elite group of ninja? Because that is what Special Squad One is; a collection of the top eight students from this year's graduating class, as part of an experiment to see if large groups could work on missions. In order to achieve success, the Chuunin instructors at the academy kept an eye out for those who exhibitied the qualities we were looking for...so in other words, you eight are the best of all the Genin in this village right now."

Izzy felt an unusual sense of pride. Wow...I'm one of the best, eh? Neat! Now the chicks will be fallin' for me for sure!

Genonosuke grinned. Alright! This is what I've been waiting for! I am one of the best genin in my year! Haha, look out Hiroto-sensei! I'll be joining your ranks in no time!

Riko was deep in thought. One of the best, huh? I don't know about that... I mean, I know I can do Ninjutsu better than many of the other students we had classes with, but ninjutsu alone doesn't make a ninja...

Akura was almost petrified. M-me... One of the best eight Genin? There must be some mistake... She looked over at Riko, who noticed her glance and gave her a reassuring smile. Akura smiled, too, and thought, Well, I don't necessarily agree... but if that's true, then I'm well on my way to becoming the elite Jonin warrior my father was... Oh, daddy... I wonder what you would think of me now? She absent-mindedly tugged on her hair. Well... Everyone was surprised, but nothing too big... I guess they didn't care what my hair looked like after all. I'm happy though.

Riko looked over at Akura, who was fiddling with her hair. Well, if that's what she likes... I guess I can't argue. Though, Akki is Akki no matter what... If she's happy with it, I'm happy with it.

The Hokage remained seated as he folded his hands. "However, the reason you're all the best Genin is not because of your individual grades, your individual talents, or your individua strengths...we chose you because you all presented the best capability of bonding together to form a working team. Riko, Genonosuke, and Akura all see each other everday. Izumo is a close friend of Riko's. Diao and Kai are siblings. Suki is a close friend to both of them. Ryu, despite his calm exterior, shares a close relationship with his brother William. When compared to all other candidates, no one else presented such a high probability for group bonding...that is the main purpose for D-Rank missions. It is a time for the Genin to mesh together as a team...and Hiroto has told me that progress, despite it only being a week, as come along nicely."

Hiroto smirked. Despite the occaisonal prank or two.

The Third suddenly exhaled a cloud of smoke before standing up, folding his hands behind his back. "But enough small talk...it is time to meet the man you'll be accompanying on your mission. Come in, Mr. Hurtz."

A door to the right side of the room suddenly opened, revealing a tall, 6-foot man wearing a neatly-pressed business suit. The jacket and slacks were dark blue, while the collared shirt was light blue. He wore a yellow tie, black dress shoes, and black socks. His skin was slightly pale - though nowhere near as pale as Akura's - his face was slightly gaunt, and his narrow black eyes were hidden behind thin eyeglasses. "Hmm...are you sure they're up to the task? Mr. Gato is paying good money to make sure his engineer is rescued."

"You won't have any worries Mr. Hurtz. Special Squad One is an advanced group...and they are led by Yagami Hiroto, one of the finest Jonin in the village." The Hokage paused as he looked at SS1. "Children, this is Mr. Nathaniel Hurtz. He is vice president of Gato Shipping & Transport. Explain the details."

"Very well, Hokage." The businessman ran a hand through his neatly combed green hair before speaking. "Gato started his shipping company four years ago, with the hopes of creating an international shipping company. Before Gato came along, each individual country had its own shipping business, making negotiations for prices and tariffs between countries a hassle. Since he started his business, we've managed to get some clients along the eastern coast of the Fire Country, and we've reported our first annual profits last year...but one of our engineers, a man by the name of Shirow, made a revolutionary breakthrough...one that would cut the times of shipping down by more than half. Something that does not require wind, or manpower to propel a ship."

Ryu frowned. What kind of thing can there be that can make a ship travel faster than the wind?

"The breakthrough in question is the engine...a machine that can run on materials mined from the earth, burning them to propel a ship along at speeds of more than sixty miles an hour." Mr. Hurtz smiled a satisfied smile. "It would skyrocket the company above all others...clients would no doubt come to the company that can deliver their products in less than half the time of our competitors." His face suddenly tightened into a scowl. "That is, until Shirow was kidnapped."

"Kidnapped?" asked Kai. "Who? Who kidnapped him?"

Mr. Hurtz sighed as he rubbed his temples. "Mist ninja. According to your sources, they were of the Chuunin level, sent to kidnap him so the Water Country could have their shipping company get on top. Shirow was exhibiting a prototype of the engine to a client at a coastal port in the Water Country...when he was ambushed. Fortunately, the guards assigned to him managed to destroy the prototype...and according to your source in Kirigakure, they haven't found the blueprints he had taken with him. Which is good...because according to that same source, Shirow's being tortured in the hopes they can obtain his plans at a prison outside of Kirigakure."

Hiroto chuckled. "So I assume our job is to rescue him and bring him back to Gato Shipping & Transport?

Riko gulped. I don't like the sound of this...this sounds more like an A-rank mission. "Um...not to interrupt, but since we're rescuing someone from enemy territory complete with ENEMY NINJA...wouldn't this be an A-Rank mission for Jonin only?"

The Hokage smiled. "Don't worry. Even though Shirow is a person of value to the Water Country, our source indicates the prison he's assigned to does not have ninja protection, so the mission was classified as B-rank...but barely. The prison's close presence to Kirigakure is troubling, but this is a stealth mission. You'll sail to the Water Country on Mr. Hurtz' ship, attack the prison, rescue Shirow, and make it back to the country shores where Mr. Hurtz will pick you up and bring you back to the Fire Country...and that is your assignment."

Mr. Hurtz snorted. "I only hope Gato's investment is worth it...but seeing as these brats are being led by a Jonin of great skill, I'll let it slide. We'll depart for the eastern port town of Sukyo in one hour. I'll be waiting for you at the village's eastern gate." He turned and bowed to the Third. "If you'll excuse me." The businessman turned and walked away, momentarily turning an angry glare the eight Genin before leaving.

Once Mr. Hurtz was gone, Kai snorted. "Brats...who does he think he is? Maybe Diao's a brat, but not us!"

"HEY!"

"Kai's got a point though," said Genonosuke with a wide grin. "I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel like proving the guy wrong."

The Hokage suppressed a smile. They're all spirited, I'll give them that. "Listen; the trip to and back from the Water Country will take at least a week. I suggest you all steel yourselves for the coming task...you are all dismissed."

"Yes sir, Hokage-sama!" replied the nine shinobi. Hiroto turned around and said, "I'll treat you all to a lunch at Ichiraku Ramen...so follow me." As the Jonin walked out, Suki cheered. "Woo hoo! Free food!"

Akura fell silent; the full weight of the mission was beginning to hit her. It was dangerous...it was far away from home...and there was the danger shoe could die. I...I don't think I can do it...

Riko took note of her crestfallen expression. That expression just wouldn't do.

Ryu filed out the door behinf the rest of the group.
If I'm to be part of this squad, he thought bitterly,
I'm going to have to learn to make friends with the others. This mission will be too dangerous to go friendless.
He made an effort to smile and act jolly with the others as they walked off dwon the street toward the Ramen stand.
He eve puffed himself up a little and caught up to the others, laughing and boasting about how easy the mission would be.
If only i really felt that way... A mission in a prison of stone and steel? This will be even more dangerous isolated from the forests...

They had gotten their ramen, and sat down to eat. Riko began to dig in while thinking. This Shirow person is important enough to be kidnapped by enemy ninja, but not enough to be guarded by them? That's odd... Really odd. Something doesn't seem right about this mission... He looked over at Akura who was barely poking at her food. "Akki-chan..." Akura looked up at Riko, who was smiling. "Don't feel so down. I know you're still thinking about your hair, and well... I liked it before, but if you're happy with it this way, I am too." Akura smiled, and said, "Thank you, but... No, it's not that. I'm just worried about this mission. I know Hiroto-sensei is going to be with us, but... A B mission? One that was barely under Jonin level? Something could happen to us, even with sensei around. I don't know if I can do it..." Riko smiled and placed his hand on Akura's shoulder. "Hey, don't worry... If anything happens, I'll protect you. That's a promise." Akura stared at Riko for a moment, then smiled. "Thank you, Riko-kun... I'll try not to let it come to that, though. And... I'll protect you, too." "Huh?" "We'll protect each other. And Genonosuke. And everyone else. That's my promise." Riko smiled again, and nodded. "Ok, then. We'll all protect each other." She looked considerably happier, and started digging into her ramen as Izzy came over to talk to Riko.

Genonosuke frowned as he ate his fish-ramen. "Man... That guy just thinks we're some random brats. We were chosen for a reason, and together, we're gonna show him! Everyone with me!?" Everyone pumped their hands in the air and yelled, "YEAH!" and started laughing. Genonosuke smiled. "This is going to be the best damn rescue EVER." He thought, Even if I have to put myself in the line of fire, I'm going to show what I'm made of... I'll prove myself worthy of the Chakuya name, and of Jintetsu. That is my oath.

Hiroto remained silent as he sipped at the Oriental-flavored ramen, paying the proprieter the necessary funds for the food. Hmm...I knew this is the kind of thing we'd be going through...but this soon? Hmm...

The Jonin remained silent, oblivious to the chatter of the Genin under his command.

xxxx

One hour had passed.

Yagami Hiroto stood in front of Chakuya Riko, Chakuya Genonosuke, Bachiwaka Akura, Kanshisha Ryu, Shiranui Izumo, Shiake Diao, Shiake Kai, and Nyoda Suki.

Standing nearby was Mr. Hurtz, sitting on a personal carriage, with the towing handles being held by two muscular guards, no doubt for the businessman's protection. "It's 200 miles to Sukyo...so let's hurry now."

Hiroto chuckled as he performed a few katas. "Seeing as how it'll take much longer than a week to even REACH Sukyo at a walking pace...allow me to cut it shorter." He slammed his hands into the ground. "Doton; Tsuchidan no jutsu! Earth Element; Earth Bullet!"

The ground that the group stood upon suddenly shifted and coagulated into an earthern bullet. Without pause, it sped off, the feet of all of those on its back firmly secured. The cylindrical slab of hardened soil suddenly lifted into the air, lifted by Hiroto's own chakra. Soon, they were about one thousand feet in the air. "There...now we'll be there by sundown."

An eight-day trip had suddenly been shortened to seveal hours...and after that, the trip from Sukyo to the Water Country.

So many thoughts went through Izzy's mind. A stealth mission huh? That's perfect. I had to be stealthy to pull all thoe pranks at the academy, so I'm already experienced. I even have my black and green on so I blend in! But mist ninjas? I've never even heard of a mist ninja. I've heard of demon ninjas from the same country. They can supposedly surface from puddles that wouldn't even go past my shoes. Not many people see them and live to tell the tale, and the ones who do survive are so badly beaten that they probably don't even remember half the encounter. That's the real problem here: no knowledge of the enemy. It's not that we're at genin level.

Riko noticed Izzy was starting to space out. "Hey! You okay buddy?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. A little worried. What do we know about the enemy? How can we beat them if we don't know they're capable of?"

Riko shrugged. "That's a good question. The Hokage-sama did inform us that the prison was not guarded by ninja, though... Still, it's best not to assume it'll be left that way. I guess if anything gets out of hand, Hiroto-sensei is here to help."

Genonosuke smirked. "And don't forget me."

Riko frowned. "That's what I'm afraid of."

Akura giggled, an unusual thing for her. "Yes, Genonosuke's protection is akin to aiding the opponent!"

Genonosuke arched an eyebrow. "Isn't that 'With friends like you who needs enemies'?"

"Huh?"

"...Whatever, nevermind..."
