When the contractors showed up in the Boredom District, no one really paid much attention. Paying attention requires effort, and such things are frowned upon by the Boreders. Of course, effort to build something is frowned upon even more, but the construction was at the neighborhood's northern border, so the reaction from most citizens was a scathing "meh" as the vacant corner storefront began to transform.

About a month later, the sign went up proclaiming the Forte Cafe to be open for business.

Gossip spread like wildfire throughout the city. A business in the Boredom District? And not just a business, a cafe? Were they mad? Details began to trickle out. The shop was owned by an older woman known only as Ms. Forte, although no one seemed to recall ever seeing her, just her assistant, a stout, red-haired man by the name of Bast.

The cafe had only been open a week when a black line crossed out the "Help Wanted" letters on the sign, and the rumors about who the cafe had hired were the strangest thing of all ...

As Srol tied the apron around his waist, he wondered, not for the first time, what the hell he was doing here.

Srol's occupation in the Sega City records department tended to fluctuate between "soldier," "mercenary," and "not quite all there" depending on how well much his mental problems had been flaring up recently. None of those indicated any sort of experience or aptitude for food service.

This had been a particularly bad year for him. Case in point, he had been tracking an ant he believed had been responsible for stealing his Doritos down the street when he had bumped into the sandwich board sign on the sidewalk. Looking up, he saw the bold blue letters proclaiming "Help Wanted."

"You're hired!" the short man bursting out of the cafe proclaimed. Before Srol could protest, the red-haired gentleman had grabbed him by the arm with a surprisingly strong grip and led him around the sidewalk tables and chairs into the airy interior. He explained the menu, the different coffees, teas and wines available. He opened the fridge and instructed Srol on the preparation of the different food offerings as well as when the suppliers would come with raw ingredients. He mapped out a working schedule and gave Srol an advance on his first paycheck. The entire process was so fast and furious, Srol never had a chance to get a word in edgewise except "Huh" "Okay" and "Radishes give me hives."

So here he was, working in the cafe. It actually was turning out to be a pretty good gig so far. Lord knows he needed the money, and it wasn't too hard. He'd open the cafe up in the morning, set out the tables and chairs on the sidewalk, write the day's specials on the sandwich board, polish the wine glasses, stare at the wine glasses, polish them some more and then accuse the wine glasses of plotting behind his back. By the time that was done, it was usually time to close up.

It was a pretty good arrangement for him. He hoped it wouldn't be spoiled by the cafe actually getting some customers.

Welcome to the Forte Cafe, a casual RP environment for people to get to know their Sega City characters better. You can come in and abuse or be abused by Srol, meet a friend for lunch, spend a wild evening with the Cafe's many wines, or just people watch and hope for a random RP oppurtunity.

I want this to be a loose environment to help people make connections, so let's just have fun with this. If I need to put rules in I will, but for now let's just have some fun. If you have something particular in mind, go for it. Or, you can just sit your character down at a table and Srol will be around to serve you shortly.

Also, if you haven't already, you should post in the "Welcome Back to Sega City" thread. Definitely consider this RP to be newbie friendly.
