And Hiran flew away.

Kanal looked on half-heartedly as Hiran took to the air.

Kanal, what's wrong? Haku ran over to her and tugged her hand. Why won't you answer me?

"It's nothing," Kanal replied hastily, keeping her back to him. "Now come on..."

She had only taken a few steps forward, only to look back and see Haku stand his ground, a concerned look on his face.

Stop lying to me, he thought. Something is wrong, and I want to know what it is.

"Now isn't a good time..."

Now you're being just like Knuckles... too overprotective for your own good. I'm not going to go anywhere with you until you tell me the truth.

Kanal sighed. She knew she could never hide anything from that kid...

When she told him the situation, she half expected him to become as scared as she was feeling, but that wasn't the case.

"I really don't want to get you involved in this," she repeated. "It's too dangerous..."

Haku looked thoughtful for a moment. Truthfully... I don't think we have much of a choice, Kanal...

"What do you mean?"

Well, you get your powers from the Master Emerald itself, so that makes you the only one who can stop the powers of the Chaos Emeralds!

Haku did have a point, but Kanal still shook her head. "I... just can't," she told him.

Because I'm afraid of him... I'm scared of Sonic the Hedgehog...

Tails had been sitting in the Tornado for some time now, his face buried in his hands. His mind was racing with many thoughts and past memories...

He was remembering the day it all began... about 4 years ago, when the constant fighting and riots were really destructive...

It was just him and his friends, Sonic, Amy Rose, Knuckles, Cream, Rouge, and Kanal on Westside Island that time. There were others, too... after all, it was a shabby little Mobian base.

It all happened without warning... Those black planes in the sky suddenly appeared. They destroyed everything. In the aftermath, everything was gone, and Amy...

After the funeral, Sonic disappeared. No one had seen him for about a year and a half... Then he suddenly shows up on Angel Island, apparently in one piece, but with a freaky-looking sword...

He disappeared again one day, right before he saw Knuckles and Kanal leave the island to start searching for the Chaos Emeralds. He was feeling depressed at the time, so he didn't go anywhere...

It was late that night that truly changed Tails' relationship with Sonic...

It started when Cream woke him up from a dreamless sleep and dragged him outside, sounding fearful and sobbing.

He didn't know what was going on, that is, until he saw her...

Kanal's lifeless and bloody body lay on the ground, with Knuckles on his knees, banging his fists on the ground and crying.

Tails' heart nearly stopped. Who had done this to Kanal? Whoever it was, he was never going to forgive them.

That was when he was told what happened...

OOC: Really long post... I just had some idea about both some history between what had happened to Amy to that other incident... from Tails' POV. I'll edit if needed.

OOC: No need, kinda like what I thought of too, you saved me a job.

Sonic built up the ball of energy in his hand, and fired it at Westopilis, within seconds, all was destroyed.
He looked at Father as he spoke, "The same fate awaits the rest of this planet!!!!"
Father stuttered as he spoke, in total fear and shock "Please, stop, no more..."

The shockwave threw Hiran right into the grounds, he tasted the pavement. It tasted like sewage.
When the aftershocks stopped coming Hiran raised above the buildings, looking to the north, he saw nothing but blood and fire.

OOC: I know there would be no blood, that just sounded cool.

"Oi! Tails!!"

Tails looked up to see an agitated Knuckles coming his way with Kanal and Haku following at his heels.

"Get the plane started up," the red echidna snapped. "We're going back to Angel Island."

"Now?" Tails asked half-heartedly. "There's not enough room for four on this plane..."

"That's why," Knuckles explained, "Kanal's going to sit with you in the pilot's seat--"

Tails' face turned slightly red at this. "What?! I can't do that!!"

"Deal with it," Knuckles told him. "Besides, we need to discuss what we're going to do about Sonic."

The plane ride was a long one for Tails. Kanal was sitting right in his lap, and he had to move the front seat of the Tornado so that there was enough room for the both of them. This had to be the first time he felt so nervous and jittery around her in a while.

"Are you sure you're okay, Tails?" Kanal was asking him. "You seem... tense..."

You shouldn't bother him, Kanal, came Haku's thought. I don't think he'd be able to fly the plane if you do...

Oh... I wonder why? Kanal replied.

It's something of... a personal matter to him...
