StC didn't just rely on SEGA's creations for their comics; they used a strong line of their own characters, and I thought they were all pretty badass.
Bearing this is mind, whom do you think is the best StC Original?
For me, it's gotta be The Drakons. They were a complete character, with a lot of history, and they were strong enemies. They get my vote.

I'm tempted to agree with you there. Sticking an anti-hero into the mix was a bold move for the demographic, and Shorty went from being just mouthy in his origin story to a genuinely bitter and occasionally twisted git.
The "good guys" aren't supposed to leave members of their team *coughJohnnyLightfootcough* to potentially fry because they've got their own agenda or can't be be bothered. That lack of predictability made him a lot more interesting than the Shiny Moral Hero (TM) camp.

Nah, probably Shorty or Porker.
Shorty was one of my favorites. Anti-hero or not he was pretty damn cool.
But in the end the bunny with the weird staff won out. Why? I don't know. I really have no reasons for it that I can directly point out.

Id go with the Drakons, they had so much potential, the whole war of the echidnas things was such a good concept, its a shame they never continued the story as we couldve seen some epic battles between the Drakons and echidnas.
Zachary gets a mention becuase hes a badass cyborg, and shorty cus hes jsut a badass full stop
I agree with ben2k9. Zachary owned, and The Drakons had a lot of unfulfilled potential.
I think Zachary was pretty cool. But Lightmare and his bunch of cronies were a real cool bunch and they all had really unique abilities. Shame they didn't get much showtime or weren't covered in much depth at all.
You mean Lord Sidewinder? Lightmare was his daughter. Bio-Hazard's design was cool though. Then there was Dr Speckle and Mr Fry. Don't know who inspired them... >_>
My favourite STC Original character was Zachary though. He was just horrible to poor Knuckles for some reason. And when I saw the cyborg remake in issue 97? It was a loud OMG. Didn't see it coming.
socold, that sig was way too big. if you must use animated sigs, go for something smaller.
i liked zachary as he was the first hint about knux's past. i seriously wish we found out what happened to him in the end. he just..vanished.
Shortfuse was occasionaly brilliant, mainly during the era Sonic wasn't there and he had to fill in.
But all to often that aspect wasn't played up enough. He suffered from too many unrealistic, jokey or pathetic strips for me to class him.
So I'll go for Zachary who's 3 stories he did take part in were classics.
You've got the "Who is this man, good or bad?"
"Bitter, twisted, revenge seeking psycopath"
and then...
"Which is more important, chasing Zachary or stopping the Emerald Hill Folk commit suicide?"

Johnny Lightfoot? I suppose STC developed his character the most, but he wasn't invented by anyone who worked on STC, I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) Cos he was in the Sonic the Hedgehog books that Martin Adams wrote, and the Gamebooks. But I like him in STC. I was sad for _weeks_ after the SA adapt.
Also I liked Moraine and the Metallix, and Ebony. I can't choose a best!

Porker didn't actually get too bad a deal for a character whose sole purpose at times seemed to be to fix the Kintobor computer. I thought that the nervous breakdown he seemed to go through was fairly subtly done.
