Its more likely than you think...
In a new interview with Richard Elson conducted by STCO man Adamis, which reveals some information about the making of STC, this shocking revelation was revealed.
Sensitive eyes may want to look away...
Quote: Richard Elson
I was always a Nintendo rather than a Sega fan and I always preferred Mario games to Sonic games; there just seemed to be so many more interesting things to do in Mario games. Actually, in the early days of STC, Nigel and I worked on a proposal for a Nintendo comic starring the Mario Bros. Unfortunately, Nintendo took an age to make any decisions and the whole thing came to nothing.
So, Mario The Comic then...
Also there is some concept art including Amy wearing a trench coat.
Discuss...
There's a lot there. I'll save a copy offline and read it more thoroughly later. But on the Amy design front...
Amy in a trenchcoat looks a little strange (a bit more grown-up and a bit more menacing), but it would've given the FFs a more uniform look, since both Johnny and Porker wore jackets, too.
It's a nice design, but the FFs look good as a motley mix of designs to match a motley mix of characters. Too much leather'd make them look more like the secret police.
I wonder if giving Porker a leather jacket was an idea conceived before or after that was dropped, though...?
the fact that the jackets had sonic's face on the back looked more to me like hard-core fanboys then being in any type of gang/group. :p
Precisely. Not very covert, either. 😉
My favourite concept sketch is the Brutus one by Lew, just because he had a post-it note on it asking Elson about his summer holidays.
Mario the Comic would've been an interesting sister title, and probably would've outlived it as Nintendo outlived Sega - and Egmont would've had a way to use the Pokemon license they bought and then NEVER USED.
