I recently checked out ps2.ign.com and to my amazement, something was wrong...really wrong. The list below shows 1) The game title, 2) The system, 3) The units sold in a week, and 4) The total sold to date. Now, look closely at the Top 10 in Japan. PS2 games don't appear until number 7 and number 10. Stranger still, look at the total of games sold. But still, the situation is much stranger than that. On the second chart, it lists the total number of hardware units SOLD NOT SHIPPED. Now is it just me, or haven't I heard somewhere that Sony shipped about 2 million PS2 units? Can someone tell me what this means? Is it that, people aren't buying the PS2 like we're all led to believe.*please please let that be the case* This is the number from Japan's Famitsu mag. Sure it's an estimate, but the DC appears to still have a larger gamer base than the PS2. Even if this number were a typo, how can you explain the low number of software sales?

1. Hoshi no Kirby 64 N64 18,571 / 542,443
2. Eternal Ties: Sairincho DC 17,772 / NEW
3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask N64 17,223 / 461,626
4. Breath of Fire IV PS 15,369 / 281,959
5. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2000 N64 11,104 / 168,135
6. Burigandain- Grand Edition PS 10,851 / NEW
7. Tekken Tag Tournament PS2 9,634 / 367,235
8. Fever2 Sankyo Koshiki P.S. PS 9,508 / 57,623
9. Power Pro-kun Pocket 2 GB 9,235 / 189,583
10. Evergrace PS2 8,812 / 95,152

Hardware Sales Totals

Here are some of the latest total hardware sales figures for Japan:

Game Boy (includes GB, GB Pocket, GB Light and GB Color) - 28,150,000
Nintendo 64 - 5,300,000
PlayStation - 17,400,000
PlayStation 2 - 1,410,000
Dreamcast - 2,000,000
Neo Geo Pocket (includes color) - 550,000
Wonder Swan - 1,400,000

dose this mean that Sega could be DOOMED?

DC admit to it's defeat what's up with sega wanting to give up so fast??! I though they were doing pretty good. , but they are talking about giving up on another system...

Seems to me from this listing the PS2 is doing a lot better in both software and hardware. Three of the listings up there are PS2 games and none of them are new. Considering the Dreamcast has a larger user base and more quality games, you'de think there would be more than just one game in the top ten. Plus with the system sales, for the PS2 to get that close in the short time it has been out is pretty outstanding for a new system. So if anything these sales figures just prove that the Dreamcast is already beat.

You'd think that since most third parties have had development kits for at least 1 year (probably longer), there would be a more "appetizing" selection of games for the PS2; I mean if this console is truly more powerful than the D.C. it hasn't done a very good job of proving it.

that dam Sony rep next door to me has got such a sumg look on his face he knows that I feel sure that Segas days are Numberd if they don't do something soon.
and I kiled my PS that I had I teamed up with the Nintendo rep for a day for mutral benafit. we both Jumped up and down on the PS and for the time the efects of me and the Nintendo rep jumping up and down and hitting with a hammer was worth it witle it lasted.
