Get ready, Sonic fans! Fresh out of Anime Expo, a brand-new animated short has just been announced as part of the massive Sonic the Hedgehog 35th Anniversary celebration.
Set to release later this fall, this upcoming short promises high-stakes action, classic team dynamics, and the return of a fan-favorite rival.
The Plot
Dr. Eggman is back with a sinister new scheme. His goal? To upgrade Metal Sonic into the ultimate, unstoppable fighting machine. By stealing Sonic’s vital life-data and tapping into the immense power of the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman just might have created his most dangerous weapon yet.
To take down this supercharged Metal Sonic, the Blue Blur and his crew will have to rely on the unbreakable bonds of friendship they’ve forged over their many adventures.
Behind the Announcement
The exciting news dropped today during the “Sonic the Hedgehog Animated Shorts: A Frame-by-Frame Retrospective” panel at Anime Expo. Moderated by Aaron Webber, the panel treated fans to a deep dive into the creative process behind Sonic’s iconic animations.
The stage was packed with incredible talent from the Sonic art and animation teams, featuring:

- Jasmin Hernandez
The team was also joined by special guest creators Tyson Hesse, Evan Stanley, and Alan Wan, who shared behind-the-scenes insights into their work before revealing the big news to close out the panel.
